I'm not new to L2 but I am in the middle of making either a sorc or warlock as my main on sieg and I was wondering what people who play either class think about them.
I know prominence looks [censored] **** now :) and I like mages but the warlock looks **** fun (and that cat is so cute)...dunno
warlcok, all the way. as a bit of fair warning, they are a bit different to play then other characters and, until lvl 56 at least, they are more geared for solo than for being in groups. still, they are very consistant grinders, fair reasonable well to outstanding in PvP (once you get to your 60's), and are **** near gear independent much passed level 60. (meaning it doesn't matter what kind of armor ort weapon you have, or lack thereof, it won't make a whole lot of difference in your leveling speed)
I'm having a lot of fun (when I get to play, which is getting rarer nowadays), and it is nice being one of the rarer classes. even the c4 boosts summoners got hasn't added a lot of warlocks to the mix, as most human mystic types go for the ubermunchy necromancer atm.
so, yeah, if you want a fun, interesting and different class to play, Warlock may just be your thing. i
eh, and I'd advise staying away from the necro atm. combination of fotm and they are overdue for a nerf stick, much like daggers were pre-c3. I'm just hoping when NCSoft nerf bats the necro they don't take the rest of us summoners down with them.
I just read a threadon l2blah about c4 summon changes, i didnt realize it was a flavor of the month reroll...would explain your necro comment a little more.
yeah, a lot of people are subbing into a necromancers when they hit 75.
defintely fotm atm.
welcome to the warlock club.defintely a fun class. I'm just about to hit 49 (3% more, about 10 minutes), and I'm having a blast. not the fastest class to level, or the strongest PvP wise, but a very flexible and dependable grinder. as long as I have d crystals and pet soulshots, I do not have to stop. about 15% per hour solo atm, no downtime or about 20% or more duo with a friend of mine in EV, with out of party prophet buffs.
couple of caveats. one, be careful with your adena. it is entirely possible to go broke as a warlock, very fast. C4 now allows summons to spam shots, which is a good thing. however, if both your summon and you are spamming shots, you can easily go through 50k or 60k adena of consumables in 20 minutes. add to that Kai and Queen the Cat both take C crystals, yeah. stick with Kat for solo, maybe Kai for duos, and have only your summon spam shots, and you'll do just fine, however. with care, a summoner is the second best adena earner in game.
also, don't get discouraged early on. I found the first few levels as a warlock to be more than a bit trying, as you have to adjust to a new playstyle, plus your summons start out fairly weak. expect to play nuker back up for your summon (or forget the summon, and just be a nuker) until 44 or so. despite not getting any new levels, your nukes will be more than capable of taking care of business until well into your fifties, as long as you are willing to use bsps.
beyond that, have fun. you have a lot of choices, really. light armor for defense, or robes for cast speed and mp, nukes or melee, or perhaps a mixture of both, and you can use almost any weapon you like. that is one of the best things about being a summoner, there really isn't a set one best way of doing things, as there is with a lot of classes, it is more about developing a play style that suits your tastes.
Kai isn't that much more expensive than Kat, especially since he hits slightly harder and you gain significantly better experience with him out. Just hunt through one period with Kai until he runs out.
If your MP is low, summon Kat and charge yourself to full, rinse and repeat.
Mew is a great farmer - her nukes are very MP efficient, even if she's not quite as strong as the Unicorn Mirage (due to lack of inbuilt Empower), she can probably still two-shot green mobs and/or three-shot whites (the Mirage can two-shot them for SS cost of an amazing 250a with adena drops ranging from 800 to 1200). Take her out for a bit of farming with BstBSpS but no BstSS and plenty of seeds (and/or a bounty hunter and a good quest area) if you feel you've gotten tight on money.
Also, after level 56 you can leech in groups with hardly any expenses - warlocks are a popular member in archer parties due to the Queenie's buffs, but are not expected to participate beyond them (except by possibly grabbing a bow).

I've heard this buff mentioned quite often now, and I'm wondering, what does it do? >.>
* Blessing of Queen: Increases party members' crit rate and crit power for a period of time.
* Gift of Queen: Increases party members' pattack and accuracy for a period of time (Blessing and Gift of Queen Stats)
* Cure of Queen: Cures party members

I think the cure is stun (not positive though)
The above quote about just pracitally leeching is correct, if you go in archer parties and pull out queen the cat you pretty much become a buffer, and no one TRUELY expects you to use soul shots/ pet soul shots since the damage dealers (Archers) are doing amazing amount of damage due to the queen buff.
Only problem is queen isn't cheap and combined with C crystal market you will probobly only make a small profit.
As for mass cubics , the best time and only time i have ever used them is on a raid boss when everyone in the DD party will be using it.
Warlock is a good/fun class but if you are looking for a GREAT PVPer or BEST soloer warlock isn't the one.
They do though do both very well but obviously not the best.
Reasons for not the best pvper cause of the setup time it takes for you to be prepared to pvp (unless your in a formal PVP) but if you are in a war / gate war and you get ganked thats pretty much it lol cause to be fully pvp ready, takes awhile lol depending on your play style.
