I had a friend who finally gave up on the game, much to my sadness, because he couldn't get it downloaded.
IIRC, there is an issue where you have to use WinZIP to unpack the files...if you use WinRAR it comes out 'corrupt'. (Or was that the other way around?) (WinRAR seems to be more popular among file downloaders than WinZIP, so this may be your issue.)
Did he download and use the actual IGN download manager you install from fileplanet? The file is 2 Gb, which is just on the limit of what can be downloaded, so downloading it without any managers brings a high risk of corruption.
those numbers are maybe 1/10 acurate since they count complete downloads partial downloads, and corrupted downloads, and that for people playing, just trying out or simply checking it out.
besides the number of present lineage2 subscribers, or any other mmorpg for that matter, are the brute total number of players which include: active, non-active and banned. since there is a possibility of non-active playersa returning at one time to the game they are counting them as subsribers and the banned ones are counted just as it is an inherent risk that some one banned can, though rarely, unban his account.
since lineage isnt one of forthcoming companies about information you can just take a wild guess on what true numbers are like.
Actually it doesn't just count corrupted or half downloads.
Also, its far ahead of other things put up for downloads, which is still pretty impressive.
And even if 1/10th of it is actually real, then 20.000 downloads from ONLY one source (this isn't counting downloads from the official sites or elsewhere) is still quite impressive and shows that NCSoft allying with Fileplanet was a good choice.
I do not know ... quit because could not download the game ... there are ALWAYS ways to get game client ... why is he relaying only on one source? Try burn your copy on DVD and send it to him via snail-mail, send him .exe via e-mail so he can download the client directly (slow, but works), let him download it from your computer if possible, search DirectConnect hubs (people like to put such big things for share, stuffing for necessary gigabytes), search torrents, doesn't he have friends that can download it for him or just walk to them with any type of portable memory device? It won't be "right now", but it will be, just a bit patience and imagination.
I mean, my country is "just climbed down from trees" for big USA, but I was able to obtain L2 for playing on crappy lagging packetloosing 64k microwave without any problem? Fileplanet is nice, but it's not the only one to get your copy.

I can completely understand his point of view. I know if I had never played this game and had as much trouble downloading it as some others, I'd have given up as well. I would've thought, if they can't even get their [censored] together enough for people to download the game, how is the rest of the company?
I've given up on other games before even completing the install for similar reasons...

So have I.
I really don't think all these downloads are legit.
For security purposes, what I would suggest is to make the new releases available on alternate sources for a limited amount of time following the official release.
Have them let peeps download the update for 1 month on alt sites. Then your only hope is the official site (wich is VERY quick when not cluttered by an insane number of players trying to update...)
he he, i think NCSOFT pulled a quickie on us without ever telling us and it was well orchastered as well. gratz on a good move.
y'all know places like fileplanet, downloiad.com, gamespot... each of these places puts on the most popular downloads. so! when all those who signed to fileplanet to download lineage C4 they also have done an unexpected favor to it. a almost forgotten game surfaced as a most popular download. so complete strangers saw this and have given it a try.
i mean, wow, look at it: this one made most popular at number 2. i gotta try it out, and look a 2 week trial period, this is very special, i'll just play it around a bit and when those 2 weeks are over i'll quit... no u're gonna get hooked and pay to play.
