L2 addictive because ...

Ever wondered why L2 is so addictive? Here is why:

Many things u do in L2 can be compared to playing a gambling game : a short game with a small chance to win big prices

Examples
a)Most obvious one , monster race track
b)Killing a mob , is like buying a lottery ticket where u have a 1/40000 chance to win (getting a full drop)
c)Spoiling a mob, same but with higher win chances
d)Quests : many quests u have to turn in items and then get small or big rewards, or even nothing.
e)60% Crafting
f)Overenchanting
g)Events : form a word and get a chance to win an Ant Queen Ring
...
I think this is the reason why so many of us like to play L2. :) Every 10 seconds, there is a (minimal) chance to hit the jackpot !
Sounds good to me
I agree in later stages it's all in gambling, but in the beginning it's not even close. 60% weapon crafts don't start until B grade and overenchanting doesn't start until D grade. NCSoft did a good job of slowly bringing players into gambling once they earned a couple million adena.

In other games it's not the case, players get a set reward like a shield or something after finishing a quest, in Lineage 2 you never know what your going to get.

You can say the same about life too, alot of it is luck, it's never fair. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get.

lol I was waiting or that one :p
nah... it is not about any of those things... It is not about lvls, gear, crafting, farming, exping, pvping, or anything that is "in" game.

It is the community. It is the politics. It is the friends. It is the enemies. Everything else is just filler.
It is different for different players. It is such a rich environment that it is able to land vastly different people with different bait, hooks, lines and sinkers.
Beeing the richest, beeing the luckiest one, beeing the highest level, beeing the best friend, beeing the worst enemy.... The versatility of the game makes L2 addictive.
I'm an open beta/C1 player returned for C4.Wish I never left.Once you get the hang of L2 and its original playstyle you realize how good the game is.Of course it depends what you like from mmorpgs and how picky a person you are.I love almost everything about L2,could use some add ins to make the game a lil easier (better ingame grp matcher) but then again when games add too much to make the game "easier" it becomes more boring(WoW,childs play).Main thing I love about L2 is the community and its dedicated players.Friend or Foe every player is appreciated.Game gets more interesting as you gain lvl aswell unlike other mmorpgs that is 50 or 60 lvls of grinding and repative questing for a end game of pointless pvping.Especially WoW where once you hit lvl 60 you suddenly become a n00b again because now you have to put in hours of raiding just to stand a chance in PvP agaisnt players who have been playing long before you with full epic gear.Almost makes you wish you never hit lvl 60 since you were pvping just fine before lvl 50.PvP in L2 personal or Clan(sieging etc) has a big effect on the player/s and the server's economy.Cant wait for L3!(in development :))

Those are basically the aspects of L2 I dislike lol
So far every 60% craft I have done has failed, in some cases I spent more in those failed attempts than what the market price for the resulting item would be.
I rather save my money and buy when I can afford it, gambling is one easy way to lose a fortune more likely than to gain one.
i disagree
i hate gambling and avoid it with a passion

i think what makes l2 addictive is the repeditiveess stacked with the need to always acheive a new goal (lvl, gear, adena, pvp point, revenge)

I think this is the first time I've been in agreement with HIeverybody...

For me, none of what is in game matters. If the servers were to close down this moment, but I was still able to interact in some way with the community I'm a part of, I would be just fine.

Lineage is what you make it. If you like the PVP, then it's a PVP game. If you like the economics, then it's an economic game. If you like the RP, then it's an RPG.

The game is so much, and I think that is why it is so addictive to so many people. It's got something for almost everyone.
