I'm in the middle of the Black Lions quest (thanx btw to whoever hooked me up with that quest, it's fun to do and it makes me travel and discover new areas :)), but now when i take back my stuff to Sophya in Dion, she tells me to bring the chests i found (with the Aden Trade Guild mark or something) to a guy named Morgan, who's supposed to be in the Magic Grocery Store, but he's not in there !
Does someone know where i can find this dude ? :p
He is outside, behind the buildings, in the NW corner of town.
When you come into dion from the church, hang a right just inside the wall. He will be at the far side of the lawn.
Hmmm, unless I am wrong on the name. The fellow I directed you to is the 'black market' acquirer of the chests, not the legit one. Two paths for you to choose here.
BTW the other one (the legit one) is just OUTSIDE the grocery store.
As for the difference - the black market one will charge you some adena (think 650a or something like that) for opening a chest. You then get a random reward which you can sell in the store or, in the case of statue or tablet parts, collect and sell the completed item. This is a bit of a gamble, since you can end up with items which are worth less than what you paid, or you can luck out and get quite a chunk of adena as profit. I think somebody made the effort to take notes of what he got, and if you plan on doing the quest A LOT of times (i.e. bring back several hundred chests), it is better to just sell the chests to the legit guy, because he ALWAYS will give you a profit, and with each 100 chests you return to him, he will increase the money he gives to you per chest. If you plan on only doing the quest for a short time, it might be better to gamble and open the chests.
With the black market guy, some items (Like Dion Apples) are worth less than you pay to open the chest. Some items (like silver tea sets and jewels) are worth a lot more. Some things, like statue of shillien parts, you have to have assembled at the Giran blacksmith...and the assembly may fail. If it succeeds, you can sell the statue (or dwarf book) for 10k. Or, you can take the statue to DEvillage (or twarf book to dwarven village) and sell to the correct NPC for 30k.
Couple of comments regarding previous posts as I have done this quest a few thousand times.
Morgan is the legit guy. He is just to the right of the grocery store outside. He will give you a reward for each chest you turn in. When you have turned in a certain amount, the reward (adena) increases slightly.
This increase happens three times. Something like after each 100 chests turned in.
The black market guy is behind the grocery store and you have to go around all the buildings to get to him.
He charges you 650 adena for each box you open, but you get to keep the contents.
You sell everything back to a NPC except statue parts and tablet pieces.
You will ALWAYS make more $ doing this through the black market dude. The few items that sell for 500 adena (negative 150 adena return) are dwarfed by the high end items that sell for 1K to 10K.
And the quest can be used to even further the profit margin by completing the statues or tablets.
There are 5 different pieces to the statue and tablets. You can sell them to the NPC as well for 1K each, but you dont want to do this.
Here is why.
When you have 1 of each piece you take them to the blacksmith in Giran to put them back together. However, because of the fragility of the pieces the blacksmith only successfully puts the pieces together 50% of the time.
So why do this? A complete statue sells to the NPC for 10K.
Do the math.
Sell the individual pieces for 1K each = 5K.
Sell the complete statue for 10K. So even at a 50% failure rate you still break even in the long run.
So again, why not just sell the individual pieces?
Because if you complete the quest, and turn the complete statues or tablets to the quest end NPC, you get 30K for them.
The statues go to the magistrate located just outside the shilien temple. The tablets go to one of the dwarf elders located in the elder room.
Save up the completed statues/tablets for when you are doing you second class change (lvl 40). You will most likely be forced to travel through both the dwarf village and DE village to complete it.
I turned in about 40 of each when I became a gladiator.
1.2 mil adena (paid for all my friggin teleports during my riduclous class change quest)
Woaw, this is quite a complete review of the quest, thanx a lot !
I wish there was some sort of guide as complete as this for all the quests :p
So, it seems like, as usual, the quest is fun to do in terms of RolePlaying if you get into the story, but the reward is quite ridiculous, it just gives you a goal to kill mobs and get XPs...
They really should do something about quest rewards
