Why don't yah just take a copy of that music thats on the FTP servers and stick it on the Web server..... So people can download it and use it in the video.

Surely you should mean include ALL players and not "as many as possible".
I live in Europe and pay my subscription like any American does, so why should I be excluded because of my location?
I would imagine there are a lot of players from outside the US, so why run a contest that excludes them/us?
As it happens, I wouldn't enter anyway, even if I lived in the US because I don't have the technical knowledge or equipment or the iclination. But it would be nice to have the choice.

Yeah, I fully understand there are laws and regulations regarding competitions like these. I am not contesting the laws. I am just upset that you run competitions that exclude us in the first place. If you can't include all players, surely you should not run one at all?

While I love the fact that Our Gm's are struggling to bring us events and contests designed to take our minds off the immense Grind that has become Lineage 2. (Wish I was in the Battle Tourney)
I feel again somewhat disappointed with the exclusionary side of these event. I didn't even see a Rabbit!
Even though I am Canadian and elligible for the Movie event, I have no time (With work and life) to even attempt to put together a peice that I would consider worthy of submitting.
Trend seems to be geared towards the players who can continue to put in multiple hours everyday online.

Thankyou though GM team for continuing to bring events and contests to our Servers. Though you can never appease everyone with these events. The effort to bring us these events is what is truly appreciated.

Some states in the US have weird laws about contests that can be incompatible with other places or require jumping through ridiculous hoops. Game events don't have to worry about these, but contests do.
The laws of different countries can be a major problem in contests. National languages, restrictions on odds and transparency, and a dozen other considerations that NC doesn't have to care about for in-game events jump in here.
For example, their judges speak English, so they restricted all entries to English. Makes sense, it's an English game, right? Well, a contest that's required to be in a language other than the legally-required national language is a huge no-no in some countries. NC would be in trouble for allowing entries from them (talk to your governments, get your national language laws abolished, they're outdated anyway).
There are copyright restrictions in place. Copyright laws different from those the composer's contract specifies are a legal liability. As all legal use of in-game content is already covered with EULA/etc, in-game events dont' have to worry about this, but a movie contest certainly does.
Allow me to reemphasize. This is not an in-game event, it is a contest, and any time that mere word gets used a herd of lawyers starts looking for an excuse to get their claws in. You may note that the published rules for this contest even specify which court in which county of Texas all disputes must be settled in...they aren't messing around :eek:
Quite simply, they either have restrictions like these in place, have different contests for each region, or don't run a contest at all. The first option is being flamed as discriminatory, the second is highly unfeasible, and the last one would be pure selfishness to demand.

It is a contest sponsored by Apple, but hosted and advertised as an event by NCsoft.
If Apple would host it with allowance of NCsoft, we would only be half as ******, I guess, as I am not paying Apple any money.
Fact is, that NCsoft is hosting a contest/event for only a part of the playerbase and that leaves a bad taste, no matter if lawyers or aliens force them to do it this way.

Well, to be fair, I think all NA L2 players speak at least some english.. If the game was in Greek, you might have had a point.
If it is true that "we" (the ones who can't participate), can't participate because our countries require competition rules to be in our respective languages, it is .. I don't have words for how stupid that is. If you agree to the rules (which you do by entering), you imply that you have understood, and there shouldn't be a problem IMO, unless the competition host actually did something wrong, or didn't do what they were supposed to do. I may be over-simplifying, since I'm actually not aware of my own country's laws in this regard. I don't care very much either, what they are. All I care about, is that some responsibility should be placed with the competition participants. We're not amoebas.

The US doesn't have national language laws. A contest only in Greek would be legal, in fact similar things have happened. I would still say that language laws are outdated.

They don't have to waste our event time with a non-event that the majority of the player base can't participate in. Nobody voted for these types of events, nobody asked for them, nobody wants them.
Of the majority of players who can participate due to their residency, most wont. Of those few who do try, most will lack any artistic ability.

1) The very concept of "the event slot" is something you're making up. It's patently false. If you want to go there, the event bunnies weren't gone yet when the contest began, and the Battle Tournament event isn't over yet, so you should have known this already.
2) For a day there, we had two events and a contest running. Are you seriously saying that NC isn't doing enough? :)
3) It's not "semantics" it's "state, federal, and international laws"...I don't make the rules, I just repeatedly point them out to people too stubborn to look them up. NC doesn't make the rules, they just try to not get sued too often to keep making games. I think you missed the "herd of lawyers" comment, it's rather key here.

Nc soft is not doing enough. The battle tourney is the only real work they've done in months. Xmas event was a script from korea. Event gatekeepers and chrono blahblahs where another script brewed in korea. The rabbits... again, another simple script to spawn a simple mob that gave a simple reward.
Oh the letter event... can you say... 3 year old script from korea? Thats right ladies and gentlemen, that letter event wasn't just for us, but it was used for the korean c1 launch event 3 wonderful years ago.
The only work being done by anyone in nc are those nifty little "BLAH BLAH EVENT!11" pictures on the load screen and homepage (which get viewed maybe once if at all by most players since it's so redundant)
And now the final event, an event where the players do all the work for real life prizes. For an extra slap in the face, those of us that do want to do it cant since we dont live in the special 'contest' zone portion of the world.
Nc isn't doing enough, heck, they arn't doing anything for this one.

The tournament is not a repeat. The movie contest is not a repeat. The bunnies are a slightly-modified repeat.
If you're looking at their "work ethic" it's not moving the same stack of paper 3 times. It's writing two papers and changing a line in a third.

Well, that's my point. Whatever it is called. And it is a contest, it is sponsored by another company. Does it suck that everyone can't enter? Sure as hell yeah.
This is not the first online game that has a contest to make ingame movies. I wonder if other game companies have the same rules or if this is a result of the sponsoring company having these limitations.

There isn't any developers involved in any of the NA events there have been.
Other than that, I do like the movie event and the tournament event, they are just getting more attacks than deserved because people are frustrated after the christmas event, letter II event and Bunny II event.
Thats why making unrewarding and seemingly pointless events dangerous, it has a long line of reprecussions. :(
