Hi, I am level 23 mage. Played for about 3 months; I play about once a week. And I have a bunch of questions that I have been withholding.
(1) Couple of days ago, I got a composite bow as a drop from a mob. I understand that a full drop is rare in this game. So... was this drop a very rare occurance, and I got extremly lucky? Or is it that such a lowly drop as composite bow is somewhat common?
(2) Another thing is the timing of the composite bow drop. I have not played for 3 weeks, and the first 10 minutes of playing I got the best drop ever, in my lowly gamming career. That got me thinking, is the game fixed so that you get a better drop if you stopped playing for an extended amount of time... like a little incentives to get you playing continuously for the less enthusiastic players. Reason is that, I had a similar experience in another online game. Just before RF online went pay to play, I got a great weapon drop (I only played 2 mmorpg -.-).
Hey, I think it is good idea if the Linage tries to help out the casual players awhile maintaining the face of fair play, i.e. time invested = power/money. But is this all in my head or do others had similar experiences?
(3) I collected bunch of recipes; soul shot D, sprite shot D, compound braid etc. Are they worth setting up a store for? Or should I just sell them to NPC for quick cash and a new weapon? I seen some people selling soul shot D and sprite shot D recipes for 40,000 adena, which I thought it was over priced. Are they?
(4) Fishing is hard. What level should I bring my pumping and reeling skills so that it becomes easier, for the entry level baits? Currently I have level 7 for pumping and reeling.
(5) Can I set up a store, and log off, so that I have my shop open even if I am not logged? If not, they should be implemented; it would fix the lagging problems also.
(6) Polygon cats are cute, I kick real life kittens. Is warlock a good career choice? I like the cats, but Necromancers seem more powerful.
(7) I been withholding my sp points thinking I might need them latter. Is it wise to save up the sp points or should I get every possible spells.
(8) One time I got pked right in front of the city guards, but the guards did not do anything after I died. I was standing next to the guards like an idiot thinking after they pk me, the guards will enforce the law of the land.... but nothing. Arent they supposed to get the reds or something?
(9) At the rate I am going, how long do you think it will take me to level 76?
I am a guy, but I am a Korean with large man boobs.
2) This ain't Eve or WoW. No such thing as being rewarded for being offline. You lucked out.
3) Yes, those recipes do worth quite a bit. Since you don't have an Artisan or no plans to roll one, might as well sell em.
4) When you're fishing, especially with the Novice Lures, it is extremely easy, assuming you're also using Fish Shots. If not, get the quest from the Fish guy, hunt mobs for oils, and convert it to Fish shots. Problem solved.
5) Nope. No way to set up a shop and log off. Set up a Shop and minimize L2.
6) No idea. You probably don't wanna hear my comment on the subject of Warlocks Kats or other summons, anyway. :p
7) SP is unlimited. You'll always have more. Get skills you need 1st though, if any extra remain you can either save em, or get other things. Your choice.
8) Guards will attack Reds IF they aren't using Silent Walk(dagger class skill) or close enough to the guards. If they are too far from the guards, they won't do anything.
9) Rate? My guess 10+ years till you're lvl 78, at least
1) It was a rare drop. Beyond this its only going to get more rare. No Grade (NG) items actually have a fairly high drop rate. Only the lowest drop regularily though, so yours was a good piece of luck. If I remember the drop rates I've seen listed from earlier chrionicles 1/5000 to 1/15000 is the average range for most items past no-grade. You could however participate in some low level raids which have a much better chance to drop full items, although splitting the loot is always an issue.
2)Play time does not affect drop rates at all.
3)For higher level people who are making alt char dwarfs to craft for them...paying 40k is cheap to avoid the grind in getting these recipes. They won't go fast but eventually someone will want one and be willing to pay for it. Same goes for the base recipes. If you have the Warehouse space save em' for later, otherwise its no big deal to just NPC em'. (Some are common enough that only the laziest wil buy them...but they are out there.) All the NG armor/weapon/jewelry recipes are useless however and can be dumped ASAP.
4)Do a forum search, there's a link to a good fishing guide. In General though, don't raise Pumping and reeling above Fishing Expertise (There is a penalty for doing so) and in fact, keep them fairly low so the fish that 'bite' are lower level. The higher level you train expertise the higher level fish you attract, which takes higher level fishing poles to handle easily, and can cost more money than you have. (L12-L14 for all skill levels and a D grade pole is a good spot to stay at for a long time.)
5)No. Only way to have a shop up is to stay logged in. As soon as you log off so does your shop. (No change to this is expected any time before the heat death of the universe.)
6)Like all summoners, it depends on how much you like the playstyle. Necro's are overplayed due to certain design issues...expect them to get nerfed hard in C5. (Even the Koreans are complaining about them.) Otherwise the Warlock is a decent choice. If you like the cats, just go ahead and make one.
7)SP is infinite. If you need more for your level, just die a few times. Or buy some SP scrolls. As long as you don't delevel more than 10 levels below your highest level skills you will never 'lose' SP. You usually have just enough SP to buy all your skills (Or almost enough) just as you reach the next level of skills. If you know which 2nd class change you going to take, you can ignore all 1st and pre-1st skills that you don't need or want to get your most needed skills sooner.
8) If the Pker goes red in front of the Guard, he will not be attacked until he leaves the guards detection range and comes back. Otherwise if he was red before he killed you, he could have been using one a 'stealth' skill to avoid the guards attention. (Takes a lot of MP so he can't use it too long...)
9) If you play only seldomly, maybe a year or two...its not bad I play a lot more and haven't got one char to A grade yet and I started in Open Beta! I'd be higher level...but I play more than just one char constantly.
(1) Couple of days ago, I got a composite bow as a drop from a mob. I understand that a full drop is rare in this game. So... was this drop a very rare occurance, and I got extremly lucky? Or is it that such a lowly drop as composite bow is somewhat common?
If there is a drop, someone sometimes would get it. If there is an extremely rare drop, someone sometimes would get it and then post on the forum how lucky they were.
(2) Another thing is the timing of the composite bow drop. I have not played for 3 weeks, and the first 10 minutes of playing I got the best drop ever, in my lowly gamming career.
See above :D

I seen some people selling soul shot D and sprite shot D recipes for 40,000 adena, which I thought it was over priced. Are they?
Generally, it is a good idea not to sell anything until you know for how much the stuff can be actually bought in the game, and then (if you don't expect to need that stuff in future) try to sell it for slightly more.
(4) Fishing is hard. What level should I bring my pumping and reeling skills so that it becomes easier, for the entry level baits? Currently I have level 7 for pumping and reeling.
Fishing were easy if you had read the guide. When you have mastered you fishing (usually takes less than a hour), use only high-grade baits... unless you don't value your time.
(5) Can I set up a store, and log off, so that I have my shop open even if I am not logged? If not, they should be implemented; it would fix the lagging problems also.
Seems like it would not.
(6) Polygon cats are cute, I kick real life kittens. Is warlock a good career choice? I like the cats, but Necromancers seem more powerful.
Choose the playing style that gives you more fun.
(7) I been withholding my sp points thinking I might need them latter. Is it wise to save up the sp points or should I get every possible spells.
You are a mystic, so you will have some SP shortage (fighters usually don't), especially if you are getting summoner skills. Don't buy skills that you don't plan to use (low-level poison and weakness, for example). If you want them later in the game, they will cost you cheaper (you will get more SP per a minute of your play time then).
(8) One time I got pked right in front of the city guards, but the guards did not do anything after I died. I was standing next to the guards like an idiot thinking after they pk me, the guards will enforce the law of the land.... but nothing. Arent they supposed to get the reds or something?
Both.
(9) At the rate I am going, how long do you think it will take me to level 76?
With your current levelling speed, in C4 you would get there in about 10 years. The next chronicles could make it easier for you, though.
thanks...
I still wish drop rates were increased for seldom players, and open store after log out.
Well, the world is fill with wishes and wants.
Arghh I cannot help thinking there could be a conspiracy about drop rate. NCsoft insists that there is no changes in drop rate, but secretly their program increases drop rate for seldom players to resist some players from leaving the game out of frustration.... I guess I will learn it is otherwise if I play more.
Hmm I just figure out something about open private store after log out.
If you play L2 in Korean PC cafe, you useally use gamming rights owned by that PC cafe. Meaning, there would be lots of on and off players that do not pay monthly fee. If NC allowed open store after log out, there would be vast amount of non paying players with stores, with no way of knowing when will they comeback and play again.
Or is it NCsoft's devious plan to encourage player to pay monthly fees and play on his computer? There were some bad blood between PC cafe alliance and NCsoft.
Or maybe I am thinking too much over a game I only play once a week.
(6) Polygon cats are cute, I kick real life kittens. Is warlock a good career choice? I like the cats, but Necromancers seem more powerful.
Warlocks are strong but expensive, or cheap but slow characters. Your pick. The playstyle is versatile and remains forever interesting (although it's not quite as fun as ES IMHO).
Don't pick your class on strength though - give us a description of how you like to play, how good you are with money, etc.
(7) I been withholding my sp points thinking I might need them latter. Is it wise to save up the sp points or should I get every possible spells.
Most important career question I see in your list. I hate to see people giving bad advice like "SP is infinite." That has got to be the worst response ever. I'm sorry, but most people do not want to level the same level over and over, especially in a class that costs a lot of adena to play.
You are level 23. Now is the time to decide what route you are going. Use this website to plan out your character's career. There are LOTS of spells that will stop leveling once you change into a different class at 40. Those spells will then become useless to you and the SP spent is gone. Once you spend it, it's gone forever. Sure you can earn more, but you will never beat the XP to SP ratio unless you lose some levels and gain them back. Not the way you want to go.
Look at the Library area of the site, decide what class you are going, and then see what spells do not continue to level after 40. If they do not continue to level past 40, that means you should not invest any SP into those skills when you are 25, 30, or 35.
For example, if you had chosen to go Sorceror, I would have suggested not to get any Summons. They become increasingly useless to a Sorceror after 40.
I've leveled several mystic classes now and I've been very happy with this method. It gives me a slight SP padding once I get to level 40. I do this with every class I level. It doesn't make sense to get Power Strike on an Orc you are leveling to become a Tyrant.
I feel I should add this: if you go (for example) from Wizard to Necromancer, I would level:
All passives
Blaze
Corpse Life Drain
Body to Mind
(Get Curses later, they aren't great PvE, or PvP for that matter)
Pick up AURA BURN if you find yourself in trouble a lot.
Personally I wouldn't waste SP on anything else. You get new summons at 40, so no sense gettign them now when they eat XP and you can go from 20 to 40 in no time.

yeah, but remember, what that really means is that you really can't "gimp" your toon by making the mistake of taking skills you will never need.
Part of the way this system works is that it gives you a small example of what the classes in the next class change offer so you can make a choice. So sure, it is easier to just know what you want and take only those skills.
But at the lower lvls it really isn't a big deal to take a few skills that you will never use.
At the moment I have 3,221,805 skill points. And I don't get my next skills for 110% more. So any of the skills I splurged on at the lower lvls really don't hurt me at this point in the game.

Yes at level 72, those early skills don't mean much, but at 20 and 40 they do. The goal is to get all the skills you want AT the level they are available, not later.
I recently decided to level a Spellhowler. Knowing the route I was going and knowing how much mystics are always short on SP, I leveled her like a melee toon.
0-19
Bonebreaker (inaccurate, but 2 hit kills)
Leather Helmet
Devotion Robes
Boots
Bracers
ACTIVE skills: Corpse Life Drain, Sleep, Body to Mind
PASSIVE skills: all
I was able to level constantly without sitting down. I had enough MP to constantly heal myself with Battle Heal until I hit level 30 when I could start healing with Corpse Life Drain.
It was like being a self healing dagger class with crowd control ability. Not easy, but doable. I had plenty of SP to get every skill I needed right when I hit 40.
I definitely DO NOT recommend this for everyone. This is a more extreme version of what I suggested above. All I'm saying is plan ahead and don't waste SP on skills you don't need. I'm just extra greedy when it comes to my SP and I did not want to waste SP on skills I'd never use past-40 and that include all those 2nd class nukes.

Nope, u get additional Summons, the first 2 stay and at last Kat should be lvled up. Mew is also not bad for PvP :) And if u want to become a summoner, try the quest without summons lol.
And if u want to become a summoner, try the quest without summons lol.
Under my method a Warlock, Elemental and Phantom Summoner would already have summons since they can level them all the way from 20th onward. I would never suggest anyone following those paths skip those skills, LOL.
And for the Necro, he doesn't need one for the quest. It's the same quest that Shillien Knights and Dark Avengers do. It's not that hard. (To kill Jejuel at the end, NUKE, NUKE, then kill with sealed sword).
Nope, u get additional Summons, the first 2 stay
Hehe. I hope you don't think I was suggesting the 20-39 level summons go away. I was talking about the Necro specifically and meant that he gets additional summons and the other ones just sit there unleveled. And I definitely wasn't referring to the other summoners since they get to keep leveling theirs.
