I started playing L2 a few days ago & managed to lvl my Elven Scout to lvl 20. Yay! I bought a D-Grade bow which I'm using atm. It uses Soul & Spirit Shots. So i went to a dwarf shop to buy D-Grade Soul & Spirit Shots.
I hotkeyed both and put them both on automatical use. Works perfectly for the D-Grade Soul Shots but it seems that the Spirit shots aren't consumed automatically. My character just uses 2 each time I equip & unequip my bow. What am I doing wrong? T.T;
Second question: I planned to become a silver ranger later but somehow i'm really concerned if thats a good decision or not. I noticed that no one cares to have a scout in their parties at all. Whenever ppl in my lvling range are looking for members for their parties and i pm them and tell them that I'm a scout they reply with "no sorry we don't need scouts". Will it always stay like that? I really get the impression that my character isn't useful. *sob*...
I'm close to start over with a different character. I really like elvens so I would want to play an elven character again. I prefer dealing fast damage and not to die like a fly. Also I want to be able to find parties because I don't like to solo all the time. What would you recomment?
Sorry for my noobishness ><!!
Thanks a lot! :o
I hope someone with more game exp than me answers you on your questions.
Regarding grouping--it surprises me at lvl 20 that you aren't being included.
Most raid groups at 20-30's aren't that difficult. As long as group has about 3 nukers and a good healer and tank (which is only 5 of 9) they could put a dwarf as a secondary DD and take down the boss.
When I raided in the 20's (a LOT) we almost always had one or even two spots in group we had trouble recruiting ANYONE for--we would have taken an archer along.
As for paired or trios in catas--again, the DD that goes isn't that big of a deal. At your level almost any trio that includes a healer can work just fine (like in NOS). Heck, I've paired two dwarfs in NOS and done well--again, would have taken an archer.
Only thing I can think of is that you might be hearing a lot of calls/shouts for "healers/nukers" for groups. That is certainly true much of time cause they are sometimes hard to find.
Also, lvl 20 is low end of raid group. That might explain some hesitancy. Perhaps if you level this toon to 25 you'll see more inclusion.
Reality? There are limitations to ALL characters so your choice should depend upon your playstyle.
Right now nukers are REALLY popular cause their patks are so darned high in game.
I've played all categories except healer at least up to first class change and all are challenging and fun (though anyone that can stand that low level nuker training and sitting around for hours on end has my deepest respect!)
I wouldn't reroll just yet if I were you and liked the archer role. :)
Thanks for your replies!
...sounds as if I just had bad luck so far, huh? >.<; I guess i'll keep soloing a little longer and try it again when i gained a few lvls. It sounds to me as if a scout class isn't really strong at all. Does it improve in later lvls and are they more wanted for parties then?
About the bow.. well i thought my bow needs spirit shots too because the description says the following:
Soul / Spirit Shot Count: x6 / x2
I wonder why it automatically uses 2 spirit shots when i equip it. *confused*

All bows are like that, honestly. Like said before, Spirit Shots are for magic. All weapons have a Magic Attack Power value, with some being much better than others. Physical attacks, such as arrows, require Soul Shots. Something I would *highly* recommend is that you NOT become used to using shots. Especially with a bow due to their high consumption rate.
As for why when it is equipped, two are used, it's charging the weapon for when you use a spell with a variable, such as your Elemental Heal, it'll be more effective. Hope that helps!
it does that because all wepons can be used by mages, so the spirit shot is used when u equip it like normal but not when you shoot it. if you cast a spel it would be used. if you but and kind of SOUL shot on auto it will be used automaticaly and add a S**t load of damage to each of your shots.
The answer to your question "are they wanted more at higher levels"? is not much.
For raid groups--what is 'wanted' is healer, nukers, tank...and some collection of 2nd players (another healer/buffer, a 4th nuker, a couple of alternate damage dealers or an alternate tanker)....at least through the 40's.
Lot's of debate on this--many (not all) would say great RG would be: 2 healers/buffers, 2 tanks, 4 nukers and who cares what the 9th player is.
As long as boss is within your level--this collection should always take it down unless someone is criminally inept.
Let's face it..alt DD's in a group are much of a muchness through the 40's.
The tank swings away at rb's (when not aggroing and such) and hits it for 20-30 hitpoints. The orcs hit if for the same--once in awhile both crit for 50-70 hitpoints. A dwarf would do the same, an archer actually hits harder but slower.
So, playing any alternate DD makes you a bit like a 2nd cousin at a family reunion (lol).
If you think archers are shunned---try being a dwarf!
If I was forming group--I'd take the archer as an alt DD over the orc fighters or a dwarf or another non-tank.
Don't know your server--if you're on Lionna drop me a private note on this site and I'll hook you up with my alts or some friends in game.
Good luck.
Actually a scout bow class is very strong and later on they do become imporant because people want an archer in the group so that they can pull the minions away from the tank and Raid Boss! I currently have a level 30 Elven Scout and her main weapon is a bow but you might want to equipment yourself with a dagger if your going Raids so that when your MP runs low you can run up and use bleed or just hi them! Your dagger but not do tons of damage but it's fast and the constant hits will make a difference! I would suggest you keep playing your class they are lots of fun both in a group or raid or solo and if you get bored with her soloing and can't find a raid group then keep her and try making a elf nuker you will love them and they are still a elven class! so basically if you want just try both and go back and forth & a nuker is always wanted in a raid group and solo very well (except when they run out of mp) thats when I suggest you use a melee weapon to hit with till mp comes back or you can sit and rest but either way the game is fun and exciting and you will eventually come addicted if you play enough SO JUST HAVE FUN :) and good luck!!!
so far i've only a thing that i can be sure of: do whatever class you like the most, and make friends ;)
they won't care if you're an archer or a necromancer for the most part of the game... and to be honest, i often had some duo party in necropolis with another tank and some other times with a cleric...
sure, cleric is of big help and can solve dangerous adds with sleep/root and heal... but also with some serious damage help is not that bad... i would have no problem in a duo with an archer, more damage, less hp lost for the tank :)
for raids, honestly can't be much of help, all i did there was no archer, but i think they work fine as all the others toons ;)
in PVP is another story... :P
However, if you love to group then a healer of some sort or a dark elf fighter that goes Blade Dancer will get you into a lot of groups.
Though in the end, a good group will take what they have and make due. Some very interesting combinations can be put together that are highly effective.
The important thing is to hunt quickly. Kill mobs that you can mow through as a group very fast that give "ok" experience.
The sad truth is that any patk based fighter isn't very useful for raids compared to an equal level nuker. But don't be sad about that, you still can do some damage in raids.
When it comes to grouping in general, archers are extremely good in both hunting monsters and players. But at higher levels groups become more specialized, you have nuker, archer, melee groups. Some doesn't like to mix different types of DDs for effitiveness. It's called to make perfect groups. As already mentioned, make friends, join a clan and you won't have any problems, friends doesn't care what class you are.
Going Silver Ranger is a very good choice, an excellent archer that doesn't hit very hard compared to his/her DE and Human counterparts, but is fast and durable. All archers are great in any pvp situation. Pure archer parties for PVE is one of the fastest xp-groups you can get into, and very fun.
I say hang in there, and play what you want to play, make friends and socialize, that's the whole point of MMO's :)
i disagree... i have many friends and i group/chat/raid often... maybe it's a bit hard to find a clan or an alliance made out of only mature people... but well, there are enough of them ;)
I just joined a great clan and before I joined I wen around with them to parties and raids and just a group of the clan sometimes and I got to know them really well then I joined up and I think if you get to know the people in the clan first and just spend some time with them doing normal stuff it will help you decide if they are a mature bunch that you enjoy talking to and doing stuff with or if they aren't the clan for you but don't exclude clans they are very helpful and nice to be a part of :)

I think you misunderstood my phrasing.
I was saying that she would not find better advice than grouping, making friends and playing what she finds fun :D
I'm a scout they reply with "no sorry we don't need scouts". Will it always stay like that? I really get the impression that my character isn't useful. *sob*...
Solo, I'm very effective.
But, Group me and Buff me with a few prophet and bladedancer's buffs, then as you're lying DEAD a few seconds later, wondering WTH just happened, as I'll be dancing over your corpse, you might wanna rethink my "usefulness" ^^
TO add one other thing to this, at your level, you may not get a lot of parties...especially with those who use swords/daggers to kill.
Especially during raids cause more often then not, your damage will be so high that raid boss will be ignoring your groups tank and going after you. That is why lot of people don't group archers in lowbie levels.
Also, pretty soon, the sides will flip for you and it will be YOU who will refuse to party with people who use Swords/Daggers(unless you're hunting in a dungeon type environment).
I for one, often do refuse to group with Melee'rs outside of a Cata/Necro. Why? To me, they are mostly "useless". They slow me down. Why having someone in my duo when by the time mob comes to me(or the melee runs up to the mob) it's already dead or dying? "That's great Champ, you've just saved me 2 SS and 1 arrow" :p
Also, as someone else mentioned, Archers parties are ........ooh soo fun and fast. I love it.
Stick it out, young Grasshopper, Silver Rangers are great.
edit: meh, ok, I guess that was more than one thing, but who cares :p
Thanks a lot for the nice advice. I really feel more confident to become a Silver Ranger now and will definetly not give up on that class & lvled my character to lvl 25 by now. Is there any advice you can give me about where to lvl? Or is it best to stick with the quests for now?
I also find my first RB-Party yesterday. It was pretty much fun. Just too bad that we noticed that our group wasn't strong enough to kill the boss... :o
Oh yes. To everyone who wondered. I play on Teon. :D
hmmm....it seems like it's been ages since I was 25.....
I mostly soloed for at least 45 of my levels.
Assuming you go solo too and spam SS....
25-33 I leveled in Cruma swamps.
33-38 Orcs by Giran
38-43 East of Hunter's Village on Bugbears(they drop Brig helms and pieces)
44-47 Orcs South West of Oren (get the COIN quest at lvl 40 from the Warehouse Guy in Hunter's. Avoid Troop Leaders as much as you can,...they are nasty.
47-50? Enchanted Valley
50+ Aden and surrounding territories, Forsaken Plains, Forrest of Outlaws
something like that.
When you hit lvl 40, try to get Eminence Bow. That has an SA called Cheap Shot... it's a huge improvement on your mana per shot ability. Must have.
admiral_ju00, thanks a lot for your answer! ^^ That really helped. I'll give Cruma Swamps a try once i log ingame.
Another question. How useful is it to learn dagger Skills like Mortal Blow or Dagger Mastery? I could imagine to use a dagger from time to time just for the fun of it. Would it be fine to get those skills or is it a waste of skill points?
And what about heavy armor? Does a ranger have any use for it or should i stick to light armor all the time because of the light armor mastery?
I think you misunderstood my phrasing.

Just wondering.. how much does the bow atk speed increase in higher lvls compared to the atk speed of a noobie like me?
Hmm, never bothered to check and compare to be certain.
I've used both types of bows the Slow and Very Slow bows, but I always also have RapidShot+Alacricity Pots or RapidShot+Haste, so to me, I hardly see a difference when kiting.
I'm lvl 33 now and cause i'm kinda close to use c grade gear i was thinking about collecting the items i need for an Eminence bow. Is it true, that it will be way more cheap than buying one from other ppl? Cause i really can't afford to buy one for 11mil at the moment. Way too much for me... *wah*
Oki so.. my problem is that i cant find out where to get Eminence Bow Shafts from. Which monster drop them? I checked a few websites but i couldnt find the info.
And if i get all the materials how big is the chance that i actually find a dwarf that will craft the bow for me? Or will i need to get the recipe by myself and let an npc craft it? ^^; Also wondering... Which C-Grade Armor & Tatoos would be the best for my Silver Ranger? ><;

So many questions again. Sorry. :o
Thanks alot xD
Yea, crafting is a lot cheaper than buying it from a player. Since it's top C Grade you will easily find a Dwarf to craft it for you. You don't need the recipe yourself now. For B, A and S Grade stuff you'll need the recipes too in order to craft something but for C and lower you don't.
Best C armor would be Plated Leather set. Might be too expensive for you though. If you want to get something cheaper get the Theca set.
Plated Leather gives you +4STR and -1CON as a set bonus which is nice for you since an Archer wants a high patk. That's also the thing you should worry about in your choice of tatoos. I'd get +4STR -4CON, +1STR -1CON and +4DEX -4CON. But you will have a very low CON (=less HP, less stun resist, less weight capacity) which might hurt in PvP. But it's probably the best setup for solo'ing.
Emi Shafts drop only from lvl 53+ mobs so try to buy them from other players.
