Mind Aloof with Body to Mind

Player Questions Started Last reply 22 posts
Hello, I have a sort of a question, but I did not know how to ask it... Well here gose... I got Body to Mind as one of the skill to try to lower downtime but by what I see happening is that my HP got "DOWN" and my Mana gose "up".

Right now it dose not seem too good... and was thinking that I could have gotten another skill with the SP from it. Does this skill get batter or will the HP to Mana be this bad at higher lvl?

Thank you for your help
BtM is great when you get it - just have to work out how to use it effectively. :P

PS: There's no rule of thumb way about it though, it's just experience - you have several skills to regain health (vamp claw/touch, corpse life drain) and you can use health potions, so try to focus on that.
BTM Is going to be one of your main important skills well most people wish they had it you do! and you will realize when everyone's MP is low and they have to sit you just cast that spell if you've got more MP YAY but of course there always have to be a down side yes it takes away from your HP but as long as you have Health Pots you should be ok you also have heal and can heal yourself to increase your HP if you run out of Pots but basically this skill is of great importance and you just need to get use to it like a balancing act just balance your hp & mp and you should be ok! Good Luck :)
Hint....befreind a healer, Bishop preferably (best healers).

You can cause a great deal of damage, but you run out of mana fast.

Use B2M to replace the mana while the Bishop heals and replaces your HP. In other words, he is the non-stop mana supply which makes you a non-stop killing machine.

SH/Bishop = amazing duo

Of course, Bishops are as rare as chicken teeth. But when you find one, you can bet they are a good player or they would not have survived!

In order of priority on healers to party with a nuker:
1. Shillen Elder - Empower, recharge, wild magic
2. Elven Elder - recharge, wild magic
3. Prophet - Acu 3, Zerk 2
4. Bishop - Acu 2, Zerk 1 (but you could just get acu 2 from a potion from an npc)

All four can heal and do it at about the same level of efficiency. But let's be realistic, any healer without recharge probably won't be partied by a nuker because it amounts to too much downtime and about 40% less exp per kill than the nuker would have gotten solo.

At the first point where you get body to mind you barely gain anything from it. When you have corpse life drain you can gain a tiny (and I do mean small) amount of mp by using body to mind while corpse draining every monster you kill. As you get more levels, it'll eat a lot more of your hp but it'll also restore a much more noticeable amount of mp.
All 4 do not heal with the same efficiency. I agree that emp is a nukers best and only real friend. But, there is no reason to shun the bishops in this way sleepy guy. SH tend to die a lot more than any other nuker class. Lets see an SE or Prophet get you your hours of hard work back with a simple spell. I love EE's and the people that usually play them, but they in no way compare to a bishop for heals. Not even on the same level in any way shape or form.
I just...B2M, Nuke, Nuke, B2M, Corpes Life Drain repete and use the occasional heal pot to pick up the slack.

And in responce to zzzZZZzzz's post I'd have to say that list is a bit off. Perhaps it's right for a Spellsinger but I would have to say Shilen Elder, Bishop, Elven Elder, Prophet. Shilen Elder wins out over the Bishop only because of the Buffs they have but as far as efficent lvling goes you can't do much better then the Bishop. Sure the buffs aren't te best but with your B2M you litterally have an endless supply of mana. Shilen Elders run low fairly fast, especially if using recharge, and need long rests to regen. EE's have nothing good going for them other then Regen and P Return and a prophet can't even do that....I can buy Acumen in a bottle and SoEs
I agree that a Bishop can help out tons but so can all the rest of those classes also a Bishop is meant to play the healer role thats what the class is the SH & EE are a healer/wizard assissant! and of course the Prophet can only play healer for a while before their heals become useless Prophets are meant for buffing and as someone who has a level 40 Prophet , I know she still does a good job no matter who she's partied with :)
Don't get me wrong...any of thoes classes is better then none but I have to say the Bishop is best for a duo with a SH. Massive heals for little mana means little or no downtime with B2M.
must....not....flame.................

SH has no need for heals if you understand how to play the class at all.

Prophet's heals are exactly as efficient as a bishop's. The only difference is that a bishop heals for more at any one time.
Thank you. It is good to know that it will get better as things progress for me. =D

I will try and play around with it a bit more to see how I can balance it's use.

Thank you once again

Good thing you didn't flame, because flaming someone when you're the one who's wrong usually gets really embarassing really quickly.

I think the order SE > EE > PP > Bishop is pretty much correct in terms of duoing partner - recharge with HMG is not to be underestimated.

Prophet's highest level heal costs 52 MP and heals for 301 HP. The amount healed by a non-bsps heal is the square root of your matk+the skill power, meaning a prophet with 500 matk will normal heal a player for 22+301 HP, or 323. This is 6.21 HP per mp expended.

A level 56 bishop's heal has a heal power of 633 and costs 90 MP. Adding in a 500 matk of +22 hp healed, this is a total of 655 HP healed by a level 56 bishop not using bsps. This is 7 HP per mp expended.

A level 74 bishop's maxed heal is 858 power for 120 mp. Again, the square root of your matk is added to the heal. With 500 matk, the heal would be 880, or 7.333 HP per mp expended. With higher matk like a level 74 bishop or prophet would have, the efficiency begins to stack in favor of the prophet's heal (but a bishop's non bsps heal is still more cost effective by a ~little~ bit.

A bsps heal is more complicated. The max bsps effect requires what seems to be an equivalent matk to your skill power. A prophet's heal only needs 323 matk to achieve the maximum boost of a bsps'd heal. A bishop requires much more than that - for a level 74 bishop, they need 858 or possibly even more matk in order to obtain the max bsps effect. The bsps effect, when maxed, provides a very noticeably better heal. If the matk does not meet the requirement, the heal isn't boosted by nearly so much.

It's true that a bishop's heals are slightly more efficient per mp expended. It is not true that a bishop's heals are extraordinarily more efficient than a prophet's heals. They heal more per cast, but the efficiency is nearly the same.

Now look at the context in which we are speaking. We are looking at a SH who is going to duo with a prophet or a bishop. The prophet sports acu 3 and zerk 2 while the bishop only has lvl 2 and 1 respectively. This means the SH can cast body to mind sooner with the prophet's buffs and can do slightly more damage because of zerk 2. The SH is able to restores its own mp faster because of the prophet, and the prophet's heals are nearly as efficient as the bishop's.

So a prophet's heals are on a different scale than a bishop's, but they are still so similar you may as well call them the same.

Since we aren't arguing over EE, I won't do it but an EE is much more efficient than either a prophet or a bishop.

Edit:I forgot to add something else. In the context of this, a prophet will not run out of mp buffing and healing a SH. Therefore, the question isn't efficiency in the first place - both characters are able to keep a SH's HP topped up without ever running out. In that sense, the efficiency of both are 100% in terms of heals, which means that they are exactly the same.

No need to regret picking Body to Mind. It's one of the best spells in your skill set.

Generally speaking, you regain HP much faster than you will regain MP while sitting. Body to Mind enables you to speed up that process of regenerating your MP much faster...and on the move.

Body to Mind is best used in conjunction with your other HP recovering skills and consumables. There are at least 4 or 5 ways to regain lost HP fast, whether that be through a spell like Vampyric Claw, Heal, Corpse Life Drain, etc., or by taking heal pots, but there aren't as many ways to quickly regen MP. Enter Body to Mind (aka, B2M).

I suggest learning Body to Mind and Corpse Life Drain and using them in conjunction. Always. Heal pots are pricey and should be avoided until you are high enough level to splurge on such things. (But by then, you should have mastered your mana management skills and shouldn't need them.) Your other HP recovery skills all cost more mp than Corpse Life Drain, so it's pointless to use them as mana management tools. Finally, Clear Mind (which helps recover MP quickly when walking or standing) won't be learned until you are higher in level. B2M is your saving grace right now.

When you become a higher level mage you'll discover that running out of HP is the least of your worries (Curse Death Link, we love ya!), but how you manage mana will determine just how fast you xp, how well you solo, and how effective you are to the group as a whole.

You made the right choice. Have fun!
There is no stacking "in favour" of the prophet's heals - firstly, a bishop gets a buff to increase heal efficiency. Secondly, the difference in heal efficiency which you try to make out to be insignificant is 12% by your own numbers.

I do believe that to be significantly more effective. :p

PS: Acumen 3 is a nonfactor as a buff unless you're a summoner or really poor - which means the difference burns down to the 4% increase in cast speed and 8% increase of matk (thus 4% in magic damage) that zerk 2 provides over zerk1.

Thank you. It is good to know that it will get better as things progress for me. =D

I will try and play around with it a bit more to see how I can balance it's use.

I promise you... body to mind is one of the greatest skills you have.

Seriously... you will love it. Why? becaues you will use corpse life drain and vampire claw (as you see fit) to get your health back.

I can go for a very long time, unbuffed, but hunting greens, doing body to mind and occassionally popping a health potion after hunting for a while.

;)

That wasn't what I was talking about. And in any case, it's stupid for a SH to party with a bishop ~or~ a prophet.

You're thinking out of context. A prophet would max out a SH's HP. There is no need to use prayer. Also, prayer is a 64+ skill. If a SH is partying with a bishop at 64+, that is terrible and probably only being done out of pity for the bishop.

Which is still greater than what a bishop provides, of course - and that's ignoring the other buffs a pp provides. But since you said a prophet is more preferable yourself, I'm going to assume we are in agreement.

I suppose I should repeat it a fifth? time just to be evil. Bishop's heals are no more effective on a SH than a prophet's. :O

You will learn to love this skill. At higher levels you'll be able to solo non-stop as long as you're walking. The way you use it will vary from situation to situation. Just experiment and you'll see.
Personally I duo my SH with a Prophet and use empower scrolls. Acu/zerk/btb are very helpful and her meager heals are plenty if I walk and am good about using CLD/vamp touch.
Any amount of HP traded for MP is a good deal.. as long as you aren't using that HP, that is!
There are a few ways I personally use Body to Mind, though every Spell Howler (or Necromancer) has their own particular (or peculiar) hunting habits.
Mostly I just cast it after every other kill or so, to extend my uptime. I favor Corpse Life drain for HP recovery when doing this over the Vamp Claw.
I also use it in conjunction with the Self Heal spell to keep my HP in the 1-200 range, and hunt with the Curse Death Link! Stay on your toes or you'll surely bite the dust!
When I start forgetting to cast Body to Mind, that's when it's time to go to bed. =)

QFT
You don't get even 1 to 1 mp gain ratoi. Every recharger will add like 1,5 times more that healer. For sure, you can get some additional mp, but... Generally you can use body to mind twice as slow as you nuke getting lower mp than nuke requires.
And it takes time similar to nuke cast.

There is another issue with bishop/EE - root level. They are weak in roots comparing to SE/prophet. While root and shoot is a great tactics against heavy mobs (x4+ hp):
---- SE brings a mob
* SE/prophet roots the mob
* SH uses surrender to wind on the mob
* SH nukes the mob to death (around 6 hurricanes or 4 CDLs are needed)
* SH uses Corpse life drain and Body to mind
* SE lures another mob
---- rinse and repeat

If you wanna duo with someone but SE/EE, you can try mages duo instead of healer duo. It works great, since another nuker adds exactly 100% to your effectiveness while you can use every method of solo boosts.
By the way, another mage will be nearly as effective in your hp restoration if you really want it.

Don't get me wrong...any of thoes classes is better then none but I have to say the Bishop is best for a duo with a SH. Massive heals for little mana means little or no downtime with B2M.

Actually I compared heals of my SE with those of a 75 bishop. My heals were only about 40hp off, even if he used prayer. Empower 3 pretty much gives the same bonus to heals as prayer 3, so the only difference is the level of the greater heal skill, and that does not increase the heals by that much. When we are both in the same party, our heals are comparable (e.g. 1100 group heals from me and 1140 group heals from him). Of course he has greater battle heal and all that, plus his uber 90% res.

Also, I'd guess that recharging a nuker is more mp efficient that letting him btm and then healing him.

So I'd say the order of preference is

- SE (recharge plus empower plus wild magic plus root)
- EE (recharge plus wild magic)
- Prophet (acumen 3 plus zerk 2 plus root)
- Bishop (acumen 2 plus zerk 1)

When duoing with a SH who uses btm in addition to recharges, there is no difference in recharge efficiency between a SE and a EE. Both combos can go forever without break. When I duo with a SpS or Sorc, we need a mp rest after about two buff rounds. I'd guess that an EE could go on for maybe three or four minutes more after the necessary rebuff (if he's using a maj set which gives a plus to regen), simply based on what I hear from EE about their regen/tick compared to mine.

Both EE and Bishop have nice res, but I don't really think that is a super decisive advantage for a duo. Sure, it saves a bit of money (at higher levels everybody is carrying around a bres, which usually gets used if no bishop/EE is around), but really, dying should not happen that often, and most people prefer faster exp+popping a bres over slower exp+nice cheap res. Bishop is a very good healer and I love having one in the party, but I just do not think he is a good duo partner for a nuker. Yes, it DOES work, but the alternatives are clearly better.
