Because whoever is responsible for this problem 2 things are for sure, one, its not a problem the WE can solve, two, it means some of us cant play a game we are paying for.
Im sure NCsoft could be doing more about this, or at the very least give some updates, if the situation is such that many of their customers cant use their service because of a net problem perhaps NC should consider moving to a new host for the servers, since is evident this one isnt working.
Just because this problem doesnt afect YOU doesnt mean its not a problem, or that NC cant do anything to fix it.
Who ever said it doesn't affect me?
Here's an analogy. You prepay for a gym membership. However, for a month, the main road you take to the gym is under construction and the only alternate route takes you an extra hour. Is it the gym's fault? Should they give you back your membership fee? Should be somehow pressure the city to fix the road faster?
You see, I realize that there are some issues NCSoft can fix and some that are completely out of their control. The key is knowing which is which and not getting ****** off about it.
actually you made a mistake in that:
it should be that the road to the gym has been badly damaged and needs construction... but the gym wasn't aware of it for the first while, now they are aware of it, and the construction crew has been informed... however, people are still trying to drive down that road and getting stuck/lost/destroyed and never getting to the gym, no ReRoute or Detour or whatever has been posted, and no effect to do so by the company responcible for that road.
If they could forcefully reroute or detour the traffic away from the road, although it would take perhaps a little longer to get to the gym, you'd get there safely.
In this manner, if your ping to the servers were roughly 50ms and the detour ends up increasing that to roughly 75-100ms... but all packets in tact.... the results would actually be excellent in the first place because there wouldn't be lag experienced..
Right now i'm seeing not really lag as everyone generalizes.... they use "Lag" in a manner that isn't actually true... Lag is ping, ping is the time it takes for a message to be sent and a responce received, if that ping increases, your lag increases, if you hit 1000ms ping, you are lagging exactly 1 second behind. This is unplayable for first person shooters, for sure, and generally every other game..... but 350ms ping and lower is playable on lineage2 (0.35 seconds after you click, you do it..... 50ms is 0.05 seconds after you click, you do it)
Alot of people are refering to the "lag" as actually packet loss. or "PL"/"Ploss". Most of everyone is experiencing "Ploss" due to a few routes (or "roads") being either damaged, or messed up in some manner. It could as simple as a frigen RJ45 cable connector not making full on contact in some master router at savis... and most likely they've got thousands to sort though.
Packetloss is what we are seeing. Not lag. When everything seems to come to a complete stop, nothing happens at all for good lengths of time.. consistantly (or not consistantly, but constantly). This is packetloss or Ploss.
the information is not getting to NCSofts servers. AT ALL, they are not receiving the information that you have punched in, be it click at this location or initiating an attack with another object, or whatever. It works both ways though, The Server has sent information to you, but your not receiving it, or just getting this and that here and there that make the whole lineage2 world seem like a very confusing one. This is why people tend to see different things.
"Why are you inside that NPC"
responce: "Huh? i'm standing beside it"
Packetloss is mostly due to that kind of thing happening. Or forexample, if you fighting along and your entire screen seems to stop, meanwhile people on the other end with you, still see you whailing on that monster right with them, BUT your action you've tried to qeury up from there may not be seen on there screen.. or may even though you aren't seeing anything happen on yours..... it's a terrible world out there.
This also explains why some people load up the game.. or are playing and suddenly there character stops moving, but you can see everyone talking in the chat, you can see people porting out and in and moving around and switching weapons or armor... and all that stuff... yet you yourself cannot type, you cannot move, you can't do anything.... why? Because your only receiving the nessary info from the server, but the server isn't seeing anything you are trying to do yourself. Why? Either because a firewall has blocked the information from getting to the server, or it's one directional packetloss (which can occur.. it's just usually unlikely)
