Hi im new to lineage 2 and have some questions. I know there wont be 1 best class but i was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction they beleive would be the best class for me. I normally play an archer or mage type of character but dont mind playing a warrior. I like to solo mainly but would also like to grp every now and then..unless grping is the best way to gain exp then i will grp. I would like to play a character that doesnt have alot of downtime and is needed in parties. Also i hear that there is alot of cash farming needed ingame so would like a class that doenst require alot of this and if so is good at it. (Not a dwarf)
Hmmm... so you want a good soloer, a good grouper, deadly, plenty of defense and no downtime.? That's it???
:)
You may want to look at either archers (they're all good in their own ways) or possibly a summoner (Necro, PS, or ES) if you want to do good soloing. This game really seems to differentiate the best groupers and best soloers. The best advice I can give is to play a little of each type and see which fits your style the best and make friends. If you find a good group of people to hook up with it won't matter what class you are as long as you play it well and are fun to have around. (I never go for that 'perfect group' crap anyway)
Welcome to L2 and have fun!!! (amazing how many people forget about that last word) :)

/Scratches head....
In saying this one of the worst classes is the orc monk/tyrant we are a specialized race that uses fist weapons. So we are costly to outfit.
But on the flip side the Dwarf Scavenger/Bounty Hunter is the best money making race.

Umm...since when?
To the OP:
If you like archers or mages, like to be able to solo or group, want to minimize downtime...Spellhowler is my bet. At higher levels it also appears to be comparatively cheap to run, although as a Dark Wizard it'll be about the same as average.
The higher the level is the harder it is to solo, unless you spam potions and buffscrolls, but that isnt much of a solo.
Archers, sumoners, sh, nekro have much better time soloing. SpS and Sork just have more downtime then Sh, but they are most likely better then most meles.
And that's where you're drastically, ridiculously wrong. The price tag on the consumables that a BH would need to solo with little or no downtime more than eliminates the gain from spoils.
What race doesn't have to rest?
My PS hasn't stopped to rest since I made him. An actual need for "stopping to rest" during normal play is actually specific to a few classes, and only when played solo. Other than that, the need to rest is a sign that you're screwing up somewhere.
At higher levels, a Spellhowler can easily make more than a Bounty Hunter. Significantly lower operating costs, no significant downtime, a far faster kill rate...
Be warned though, the summons between lvl 20-40 are more or less useless, its not until after the second class transfer to the PS himself that you will actually see the effectivity of the summons.
I agree SpellHowler which starts off as a Dark Wizard 20-40 Is an awesome class I started one a few weeks ago & I love her she's awesome and already at level 30 they level really fast, They can solo & if you run out of MP at level 25 you get BTM which regnerates your MP but takes away from your HP BUTif you use Duals like I do you don't really need to use BTM all the time I just fight with my Duals and DSS well my MP is regenerating! And a Dark Wizard (Nuker) is always needed in a raid group and always wanted no matter what level you are :) So they are a super fun class to play and they have a lot of options!

Good luck :)
It's actually past 44 that the shadow becomes a lean, mean killing machine. 40-44 is so-so, but at 44 you get servitor haste and it gets its passive VR, which makes it a real killer.
Along with everyone else, I'd say that either Spellhowler or Summoner (of any type) are good bets. Starting a Dark Wizard gives you that option as you've noted after the second class change. They are very different however after 40.
thank you for all your posts i have started a dark elf mystic and will go dark wizard at 20 and then decidee from there whether to go summoner or spellhowler. But i had a few questions. What weapons and skill should i get please. I am new to game and very confused at the moment lol.

Passive VR is always there. Other than that, yep :)
