PS duo with (?) +out of group buffer

Hi,
I really want to make a PS and my friend wants to reroll also. What would be a good class to duo with?
Also, we have a SE or Proph who can help out of group for buffs. However, the SE and Proph are on the same account. Which would be more beneficial for our duo?
Thanks in advance for any input. :)
as a ps, i would suggest the SE as your buffer. first of all, you can buff haste and magic barrier yourself (SE lacks these buffs), but in contrast, the SE can buff VR (which would allow you to use the soulless more easily with no mp issues) and empower (which would help you nuke / crowd control, even into higher levels). If your friend rerolls a mage of any kind the SE would be the best option hands down. VR would definitely help him a lot as a melee as well.
Thanks Kirith. We will prolly ask him to keep us buffed with the SE then.

My duo partner wants to go PR or BD I think. I told him to go WC or BD because their group buffs effect pets(?) but should he lean more towards a DD like a dagger class or spell using nuker? Any suggestions would be great.
Always trioing with an PS, we got an buffer yeah SE, and myself BH, we have quite good killing speed so :) geting more xp in this trio then I have done ever in any cata and so on at my curent lv so :) it's quite nice. Anyhow best dup with an PS and SE as buffer. Then any Mele is fine, rangers does not fit in and wont work as well.
BTW, what role does a PS play in groups? A DD, tank, offtank, or support with the heal pet(or does it heal the PS only?)...
PS doesn't have a healer pet as far as I know. They double mostly as DD, since the shadows have a high p.atk and they get a haste buff of their own. If you can find a PS who can afford to summon cubics too, you can have the debuff party cubic that does wind shackle, weakness and chaos all at the same time (but at 12 crystals a pop, if this is a cat party they'll probably insist on SS+pet SS spam too, which means the PS will either be very poor afterwards or buys adena, whee).

PS has the only healer pet.

However, in an exp duo it would probably be more appropriate for them to tank, as they likely have a much easier time managing their servitor's HP than any other duo party.

Summoner duos work very well, but going with a BD for Fury and Warrior might also be worth it. :)

ETA: I would go for the prophet for any other summoner - but indeed, the PS is sorta shafted in the uptime department, so why not him. ;)
BD for party and SE for buffs.
W/ emp hex lands almost w/o fizzles, so even BD may dance fire/mystic/fury (no warrior) if hex lands well.
Thanks for all of the great feedback!

Anyone on Bartz want to sell summon soulless? <3
[Edit: LoL, my friend insists on going PR now, so I guess we will be PS and PR duo. It just might work!?]
well duo w/ PR is usually not nice, PR stays afar, one crit and mob starts running towards... lame [summon and you follow the mob].
and PR is kinda not good at tanking :P
Bear in mind that, if you duo exclusively with a non-summoner who doesn't die much, he will level faster than you.
Egad. You're right.
That may put a damper on our uber duo.
It's only by about 10% if you use your soulless consistantly - less if you switch over to the nightshade ocassionally. Not a big problem. ;)
It can be difficult to consistently hunt with the Soulless, especially at low levels and with an archer duo. It takes more damage than the Shadow (which effectively takes none at all, heh), meaning you'll need MP to heal it basically after every fight...but the Soulless is going to be doing evil things to your MP regen.

However, if you're sure you're going SE for your buffer, and if you keep his level close enough to the PS', you should be ok...periodic recharges on top of buffing 3-4 units shouldn't be too hard. My only concern was that, since they're using an OOP buffer, they might pass his level--making his Recharge useless.
His SE is in the high 60s I think so we should be good.
Apparently my friend watched some PR Fraps of godly PVP so he refuses to change his mind. I just hope the Shadow or Soulless(which I still WTB the SB on Bartz <3) can hold aggro from the PR. Maybe if my summon can get a few hits in before the PR blows the mob up he won't have to kite.
From the responses so far it seems like this will be an odd duo. ;)
Thanks for eveyones input. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Off topic,

Just finally finished the quests for my newly rerolled PS. Got myself an Emi bow and omg I am having lot fun. Definately good class. Being that I was a Warlock before, tell u both Shock and Phantom cubics are nice. Shock lands lot more than para does, and phantom's hex ablility is very noticible.

GL to u
Just wanted to know if you've ever tried pvping with your new PS yet?
Not much point PvPing before TP4, hoho.

Although I'd be honestly surprised if he found it all that different from with his WK.
Sorry what do you mean by TP4?
Transfer pain level 4.

Before 56, the summoner is average in PvP at best. Then at 56 he learns transfer pain level 3 (absorbs 30% of damage taken and directs it to servitor), then at 58 transfer pain level 4 (absorbs 40% of damage taken and directs it to servitor).

It's a huge boost.
Oh didn't know that thank you :)
I recomend an SE for a PS.

An archer is not a very good duo partner for a summoner. I find it rather frustrating. I tolerate archer parties because they only need me for the queen buff so it's pretty easy xp. The times I duo with an archer he always pulls aggro off me (I'm using Kat or Kai with PetSS) so we end up chasing him around.

It's not a whole lot better if I use a bow because I can't carry as much SS/Arrows.

If you xp in catacombs then tell him to get a focus dagger. Atleast you won't have to chase him around, and you might hold aggro most of the time.
I agree the SE is gonna be better for you as a PS than a prophet. Yes, you'll miss zerk, btb, holy weapon, etc but the heals and recharges and VR will more than make up for it. Remember your soulless imposes a mana drain on you, so recharges might be helpful for you as well as your party mate.

As far as what to have your friend level: BD totally. His dances will help you AND your pet and he can tank with VR from the SE. You do not want a ranged attacker like a nuker or an archer because they will pull aggro off you or your pet if you try to tank, making your pet have to give chase.

I currently play a 6x PS boxing an SE. When I party with BDs I love seeing the huge boost in stats my pet gets and would love to duo with one.
I agree, BD sounds better than PR, but try and convince my friend that PR isn't the end-all in pvp. Or are they?
We haven't started our uber-duo-rerolls yet but I know he wants to play a strong pvp class(PR atm) and I want to play a PS.
I'm going to forward some of these responses to my duo partners email to see if he will change his mind so my summon and I don't end up following a kite situation(which doesn't sound like fun or very good XP).

P.S. I still WTB SB: Summon Soulless on Bartz. Please PM or relpy here. Thanks! :D
PRs are good archers but the strongest ones are HEs. PRs have great magic attacks like hex, etc and hit hard due to high STR. However, they have low con and kinda low dex.

If he purely wants to make a toon thats fun to play, sure, archers are fun. But he'd do better soloing than trying to duo with a PS. PS is really a melee class and they do better with other melees: daggers, tanks, other summoners. Melee and ranged in a duo=frustration. Been there, done that.
