i made a charachter to fish up some fish gems because i had raised my fishing level too high and want to craft a forget-me-not hairpin.
my first few trips i got 6 to 8 fish gems for every 100 casts. today i had only 1 fish gem through 50 casts and decided to keep track of my next 100 casts. i was using high grade green lures that are supposed to attract nimble fish. i was staying in the same spot outside the magic guild in giran.
does moving when you get no bite help?(all 17 no bites happened in my last 45 casts)
Yes, fish apparently become used to your lure and learn to ignore it. I tend to just move to a different spot after 50 casts (if I even get that far without dying from boredom >.>)
AFAIK, the conversions is random....and has a crap rate. (~50%)
Personally, whenever I do any fishing I usually do a run of equal amounts of each color lure. ie 10-30 of each color and simply move a few feet to the side whenever I fish up a mob. ('no bite' attempts I move also, but happen rarely.) 'Low' grade lures seem to fish up mobs more often than high grade lures, and the fish are usually slightly lower 'quality' but overall the differences are pretty slight.
It does seem like the nimble ones have worse conversion rates. But I could very well be wrong about that, since it's the only fish I really care about. So it might seem worse than it is.
