Devs are smarter than you think

Thank about it….in C2 the daggers were overpowered no one could touch them and it was the Nukers in C3 and in C4 it’s necro (Nukers) not sure about prelude or C1 I wasn’t around. As C5 is coming around it looks like its the Tank, healer and dagger team.

What this did was it kept the balance…through-out the chaotic chronicle. Ya it sucks if you weren’t a dagger in C2 or mage in C3 but in the big picture everything is starting pull together with C5.

I think of the past 4 chronicle was a test run to get everyone settled into what class they wanted to play.

Everything happens for a reason. If none of this happened then every server would be full of daggers and nukers, I’m not saying it isn’t.

Great job to those who pick a class and stayed with it!

I know certain people play a class because it fits their play style. No matter if it was an overpowered class or underpowered class.

This is just how I look at it…..I was looking at the big picture not chronicle to chronicle.

Thanks

What about Dwarves?

The few who play a Dwarf do indeed deserve a standing ovation for playing the Absolute Worst class in the game.
I would to see be the time C12 hits that the Dwarfs standing above all other classes..

Not sure I can really say that "Dwarfs standing above all other classes"
Yea, it's not easy being a dwarf, that's for sure.

Good thing I dont like PvP or PvE otherwise I would have rerolled by now ;)
Greetings,

What about Dwarves?

Funny. The board, as the game, hates dwarves...

It was an interesting title, but alas, there was crap inside.

Have Fun ! ™

Devs don't have a single clue about their game. They can't balance it because they just don't see where it is unbalanced. They designed the seven signs that were a complete failure. Half of their events are clueless and actually harm the game.

It would quite literally be impossible for them NOT to be....if you get my meaning....

C12: The March of the Garden Gnomes
Lol... :)

Thank you for the flowers... I think my fellow dwarves and me are mostly still playing because we want to enjoy the neatness of dwarven subclasses. ;)

On topic: Ya the devs made a lot of things right that are not obvious... ecenomy is one of their best tricks... but balance is obviously not their field of choice. :)

IMO the dev's are extremely intelligent and have designed a beautiful game.

However, they made the same mistake that most software developers make. They built it to be the way they would play it, and didn't take into account how the end user would actually play the game. ie.. I guess it never occured to them how many cheating scumbags there are in the world.
lol
or are they smart enough to know that would happen?
*cue scary twilight zone music*
Ya assuming noone would attempt to cheat in a pc-game is plain dumb. :p And certainly no excuse for making a flawed game.

By who's scale? :)
The developers are VERY smart, they see long term...they see all kinds of things that we don't yet see. Many things that those who /aren't so bright/ will never see.

Those who are unusually bright, who play the game now, have already figured out a lot that the <unhappy folks> are unable to understand.

Sheesh, those who complain seem to have used -Int +Con dyes in rl.
A tyrant is defined by his use of totems that is what makes him unique. As each race has something that makes them unique.

You don't remove the uniqueness....
And the totems aren't removed - your point?

Yes, the devs certainly have a master scheme, but its execution is so flawed that it makes you hurt at times.
Tis..... The bear totem is!

kinda like all of your posts?

I think of the past 4 chronicle was a test run to get everyone settled into what class they wanted to play.

If they actually did this, they are far dumber than I thought. That's a terrible way to make a game, to intentionally leave key parts of the design imbalanced for the first year-and-a-half of it's life.

Do you know how many players they've lost that way? How much revenue their company has lost? How their reputation has been dragged through the mud?

Far better for it to be an accident than sabotage.

IMO the dev's are extremely intelligent and have designed a beautiful game.

Watch out for the torches and pitchforks, saying that ;)

However, they made the same mistake that most software developers make. They built it to be the way they would play it, and didn't take into account how the end user would actually play the game. ie.. I guess it never occured to them how many cheating scumbags there are in the world.

This is a portion of the problem. What's very likely is that they've balanced the game the same way many game designers do.

They come up with an idea of what classes should be used for, according to their design.
They make spreadsheets to track things like the average DPS the class can deal versus the average DPS it can withstand.
They head out to a private test server to check that, under the conditions they had in mind, things work like the spreadsheet.
They think they've balanced it.

It's not like it's intentional. However, tests which do things like...
1) tester who has never spoken with the designers sits down, uses the in-game descriptions, plays through a senario with no outside information
...or...
2) tester with extremely detailed information about the numbers for each skill, but no idea what the developers wanted him to do with them, runs through senarios
....rarely get much design time, despite those being the most important for the end-user.

What's the probability that summoners were designed to not summon for the majority of time in their first 4 levels? Pretty low, but it's the most effecient way to go (in fact, more than 4 levels during C3).
Is not using a servitor being a "cheating scumbag"? I highly doubt it.
Test situation 2 would have easily caught that snafu...but it was quite obviously never run. It's quite likely the developers, assuming they tested summoners, did all of their tests with summons out and didn't check to see if they were worth bringing out. Those little unconscious biases can make even a non-cheating-scumbag do things the developers never dreamed would be effective.
The cheating scumbag part was a referrence to the umm players that we cannot talk about here, and their prominence and impact on the game, which is VERY SIGNIFICANT. IMO secondary markets have really exploded over the past few years. It's very possible in my mind that when they originally came up with the idea of the game, how it would work, etc, etc, the core values so to speak, that ebaying and botting were not nearly as prominent as they are now. The result, they did not account for it in the design process, and instead are being reactionary.

The other part of what you talk about, stuff like Dagger classes wearing Doom heavy for PvP and such is exactly part of my point. It's also the #1 flaw of all software developers, they design their software (not just games) to be used the way they think it should, but they don't place enough stock in how the end user is actually going to use it.

Example: I work in a car dealership, and we have an ERP application that runs our business front to back. For me the thing is pretty easy to understand, yet for our end users (who are not as heavily into computers as I am..) the thing is not user friendly, too configurable, and in general a PITA to use. The result, our typical end user utilizes at most 30% of the App's capabilities.
It's a conspiracy to make you reroll FOTM. Prevents you from getting bored and keeps you playing. That's my 2 adenas.
The Devs are smart?

Are these the same devs that added A and S grade items into the game, and then turn around and lower the drop rate on basic mats to almost zilch?
Yeah, they're real smart alright.......

And what I want to know is, have they ever actually pvp'ed in their own game?

Cuz, I don't think they got a clue about balancing PvP...
The problem is the big picture. This game was designed for South Korea where the servers are brimming full of players. It would be interesting to know how much they're paying for basic mats like bones and skins on the Korean servers.

It was an interesting title, but alas, there was crap inside.

You need to come up with some new material....you are starting to repeat yourself.

ANd how abt EEs? Where is the love I need lolx
EE's are a good class that's badly underrated. You're getting a few very nice things in C5. :)
Like slower Sleep till lvl 56?
