Why use a summon servitor?

I have a Dark Wizard and I don't get the point of using a summon servitor since one takes 30% of your exp and does little damage & the other that does magic damage takes 90% of your exp? How are you suppose to level and use them at the same time or are you not suppose to use them unless your in real trouble or PVPing? Whats the point of them really?
As a matter a fact, those servitors are only really helpful as a Phantom Summoner-Elemental Summoner-Warlock...not between 20-40.

Those servitors do perform very well in party-play as they assist your partymembers in melee or ranged magic attack, and help healing your summoner partymember (which means less work for the buffer-healer).
Like said above, the summon isn't really used tell after 40. Just nuke your way up to 40, probably mid 40's (thats at least what I've heard from several 70+ summoners)

The point of the summon is your kinda duoing with something, but in essence its just you. So you get the drops, not the summon, and yes the exp kinda sucks but you're a bit more versatile in PvE. Your servitor does have lots of life depending on which you use, and your servitor specific heal is almost like a greater heal for it.

Thats pretty much the point of the servitor: to tank, do dmg, make your life much easier.
Silhouette is still great in PVP but yeah your pets don't really even get decent until 40.

First off you are a wizard and not a summoner. They limit ur ablity to summon to make wizards not too overpowering(lol). Well, u get weak version of servitor cause it matches up to the skill lvl. As the skill gets upgraded u will find that ur servitor could easily rival melees with top D weapons. C4 implimented beast Soul, spirit, and blessed spirit shots. Visit ur local pet manager and buy a few. Summon and when ur summon is out, auto shot it like u would ur normal shots. Give it a try. Also learn servitor heal to keep it alive.

Your shadow has a Vampiric rage passive and do some good damage along side ur nukes. 30% loss sucks, but if done right u can hunt nonstop instead of resting forever for ur mp to regenerate. Silhette is a farming/pvp summon that only costs 1 D crystal no matter what lvl the skill is. After ur a summoner the 90% servitor serves better purpose since it will be stronger.

These skills are there for u to get a taste of it, not to get u to lvl 40. If you like it then go after the Phantom summoner class. If not then continue on to Spellhowler and u lost small amount SP on these skills.

But after 40 they do get stronger and you can actually decently PVP with them right? and they do have a chance to win? lol
Well I'm not so concerned about the servitors I just want to know before I do my class change if a PS is worth having especially if I want to be able to PVP with this char or if a SH is better for PVPing? See I love the skills I get as a Dark Wizard and i love my servitor summon skills (silhouette) but then I want to know if past 40+ they get stronger and strong enough to PVP with? I know I'm a Dark Wizard hehe but and they aren't suppose to get me to 40 thats why I don't use them for tons right now I just mostly play around with them and see if I like them! :)
I'm good at killng archers and daggers. Dagger are harder, an equel level archer takes about 25% of my MP and none of my HP to kill.
Really? thats awesome to know! and do you use your shadow summoners to take them down?
they are there to give you a "taste" of what being a summoner is like.

You will never use them unless you become a summoner. I used mine twice in Cruma and in the end it was just a pain in the neck and slowed me down.
I use silhouette, her life drain is a beast on fighter DD's and since i use a shield it's hard for archers to be too fierce.
yeah, but you are a Full grown kickass Phantom Summoner.

I think the poster was asking about sub 40. I don't know of anyone who actively used their summons sub 40. Especially, if I recall, the timer was somewhat long. And you can kill your victim before the summon actually gets to it.

Now, regular Phantom Summoner. That is an intriguing class.
my spellsinger used the unicorn all the way to b grade
the mp recharge is good if you dont have a boxed se
How was your PS at fighting or pvping in the 40 range? and how often then did you use your servitors?
I used my pet the instant i turned 40, which was foolish, you're a good nuker till 48 or so. In PVP at that level though PS rocks, our pets are very strong especially after 44 when we get haste and our nukes still rock.

Since 42 though i am NEVER without a pet unless i'm with a full group. I always have silhouette out if nothign else just in case because as time goes by, i'm getting worse and worse at protecting myself and the summon really becomes critical.
There's no reason not to use the servitor as of C4, if you can afford Beast Soulshots - it now makes up for its EXP leech in terms of kill speed. Send it in and nuke it right after it engaged - let your servitor finish off while you move to pick up the money and send it on.
The only problem I see with a PS is that my char is weak but her servitors are strong? and basically you don't get any more new nukes after 35 so what do you use to fight besides your servitor?
Your Summon is your main weapon, you could always buy any other kind of weapon and melee aswell with your summon.

If your goal is to be strong pvp class, might as well reroll a Necromancer or stay the path of SpellHowler.

PvP as a PS depends on the situation and class but far more difficult compared to nukers and archers. Phantom summoner only offers u flexiblity to hunt way u like to and uniqueness of using summons and cubics really.

Still can't decide, then jump on L2Pets or ask a PS on ur server for personal opinions.
Yep I hope t be strong and I know Necro's are considered the best at PVPing right now but I'm hoping to become a SH cuz I'm a Dark Wizard :) and in my opinion Necro's are over rated and way to many people are making them now!
At 3x, you're essentially a baby SH not a baby PS. You have strong level appropriate nukes and some basic self buffs. With some sps, and decent gear, you could solo, although with down time.

In contrast, you can't play well as a summoner at your level. Your pet is weak and your buffs for him are weak. You can only see the real power and strength of a summoner at 58 where you have might 3/shield 3/haste 2/magic barrier 2 for your pet. At that point, you have a fully matured summoner who's a force to be reckoned with.

I levelled my PS using strictly nukes and NO pet (for no xp leech) until around 52 at which point my level 35 nukes failed so often, I needed my pet to help my kill rate. I now level with my pet out at all times and meleeing along side my summons. My current pet has a p atk of about 1850 with full buffs and dances. That's nothing to sneeze at when you're in your 60s.
Also with TP a PS is a beast of a tank. light armor gives me a decent pdef and TP basically doubles my pdef. Also i have a setup for damage. I am using a Bloody orchid with will have focus, soon i hope. As a result i do a decent amount of damage. With CLD i recover any life i have lost and my steady state hunting has both shadow and i near full HP and MP.
Ya but you have full buffs and dances for oher chars like a prophet & BD I want to know how well a PS & it's servitor is without those full buffs?
Self-buffed, the summoner out-PvEs everyone and probably out PvPs most classes.
So then you are saying that a summon is at least decent and can pvp BUT is that not till after 40? or is that not till after 50?

So then you are saying that a summon is at least decent and can pvp BUT is that not till after 40? or is that not till after 50?

Actually, I think she was saying that a summoner can buff his summon respectably, so "self-buffed" fights favor summoners.

The 40,50,etc thing is a seperate issue:
You aren't a summoner until 40, so relying on your summon before that is kind of absurd. You're a nuker with a mediocre summon in the 20-40 range, not a summoner.
You don't have most of your summoner skills until 50ish, which means that your 40's are a transition period. You still PvE/PvP fine, if you do it effeciently, but the effecient way isn't the "pure summoner" way.
Against archers and mages are rocked by UD and you don't get that till 52
Ya thats what I wanted to now so basically your not a true pvp Summoner till at least 52 when you get better skills and what about an SH do they have to wait till around their 50's for a great pvp skill or can they pvp better then a Summoner in their 40's? Just wondering b/c a clannie wants me to fight him once both our chars are in their 40's and I want to make sure I go the best choice for pvp char at 40 (between PS OR SH) So I can have some fun with him :)
In your 40's, your Dark Wizard nukes will still land on an even-level foe--less damage than a Spellhowler, but not terribly much at that point. You shouldn't be a spectator, you should be doing half the damage.

In your 40's, your Phantom Summoner servitors are significantly upgraded from pre-40, but haven't reached their peak. Yeah, their damage is lower, but...see above.

I don't think it would make that much difference which one you picked, if you play it well. Now, if you're iffy on that, you should probably go SH--it's far simpler.

...also, out of curiousity, what class is this clannie?
My clannie is currently fighting to get into the 40's as I am so he is currently in his 30's as well as I am so I want to be prepared on what route to go before I decide to pvp with him :)

Class, not level :)
lol.. I wonder who that clannie is.. :p
The key thing is knowing WHEN to use that summon.

Nuke nuke nuke B2M nuke nuke nuke B2M....

When you are out of mana and going to sit on your can... summon the shadow....

Melee/B2M/Corpse Drain until you have mana again.

You will find the shadow is basically (almost)manaless damage.

You will find XP flies while this is out because you do not need to spend as much mana on killing things. You will actually GAIN mana while killing if you do this right.

Pre-40 summons are designed to give you a taste... but they can do more than that if you play your cards right.

Human and elfie summons have more direct uses for a wizard... the DE one takes more gumption and produces surprising results when applied correctly. Hint... the shadow is amazing at killing things a little lower than itself due to its innate VE.

30% XP drain? Think of it as a group member that doesn't give you any lip and doesn't take any loot... oh and they only take half their normal XP drain too... Still think 30% is a bad deal?

As an added bonus...
DE get the best looking summons by far...
LOL... Caux you now exactly who that clannie is....hehe

Anyways my clannie's character is an SE
And how do most people feel about having a summoner in a group or raid party and about summoning their servitor? Does it ever bother anyone?
they shouldn't be bothered since it only leeches exp from you not the group.
Ok cool thanks! Does anyone know what a PS wears as gear and what weapon they use when thy hit 40?

As an added bonus...
DE get the best looking summons by far...

LIES! Nothing beats them cute cuddly kittens :]
You can do one of two things.

Go full summoner at 40. Get light armor (recommend drake) and a fighter weapon. Fight along side your pet doing melee and maybe some nuking.

Stary nuker. Keep robes, mabye get some CG ones and nuke till at least 44 when you get servitor haste. Leveling with the pet is hell until you get haste and this method will get you there a lot quicker. Also your nukes are great till about 48. They're never truly useless but i think that's about the time it's better XP to fight alongside the pet.

You probably are envious of the Seraphim
K I'm probably going to get light armour and fight along side my summoner b/c I like having them with me it's nice company (cuz they don't talk back) lol jk and it's like having a body guard heh! Just want to know what is the best weapon to have as a Summoner Do you go dual swords with SA Focus or what will do the best damage at 40 as a new Summoner?
At 40 i went fist weapons because they're cool. Seriously that was the only reason. At 45 i went to a clauburs and shield, that was fun and worked well. I went duals at 52 but i had haste ones, that was a waste. Since 61 i've been using a dagger no focus yet cuz i'm poor.

I recommend something that only hits once for SS efficiency. So i'd recommend the top C 2-h sword with focus instead of duals but both are great choices. I use a dagger because i've set myself up similar to a dagger user except with a shield. The shield i strongly recommend, it's what allows me to win so frequently in PVP versus fighter types.

Also be warned before 44 you will level slowly using your servitor. At 44 you get servitor haste and life becomes good.
So I should go CG Drake Armour & a one handed weapon with SA Focus and a shield right? Or is it better to get a Dagger with SA Focus? Since the Dagger doesn't take as much SS and is faster?
Dagger takes more SS. :o

But it's all up to you - in the end, your damage won't be all that relevant a few levels in, and you shouldn't think too hard about your gearing. Go with style over substance.
I just turned warlock (42 and 65% will be 44 tonight) and I dont find the lvling slow yet at all. I have the money from friends to be supplied all the time with ss, I have +5 dual raids (haste) and a divine set...I lvl so fast, absolutely 0 downtime. I only nuke when i have to.

Frankly, it's your wallet that's making you level fast, not your class. You have level 50+ gear at 40 and unlimited consumables, of course you're tearing it up. :p
Slow "yet"? When exactly do you expect it to get slow, and in comparison to what? :p
Thats kinda why I had a question mark b/c I wasn't sure what weapon would work how much ss it takes! So a divine set could work out pretty good BUT what about a heavier armour to take hits? wouldn't it be better to have a light armour instead of robe so if I got it I could maybe take a bit of the hit? Or did you decide to go Robe b/c it gives more to your MP? and I was thinking duals BUT I heard a shield is really good for a summoner!?!
I might recommend a sword with focus for a few reasons

You can use a shield but you can do tha with a dagger too. The sword hits harder but crits less, in addition the sword will hit a lot more often but at a slower rate.

Money wise a 2-h sword is most efficient SS wise, daggers are actually pretty bad because they rely on you hiting many times for a little damage as opposed to a sword that does more damage per hit but is slower,
Ok I know money can be a factor but just give it to me LOL (meaning straight up) what is the best CG Sword or weapon to use for a Summoner?? and with what SA basically Focus I've heard so far! And is duals better to have then Sword and Shield?
dual swords are costly SS wise and a shield is nice, i'd recomennd the biggest 2 hander you can find though. I'm not sure what the top C one is called, berserker blade i think but get that one with focus. you'll be a beast for doing damage. For a PS a shield is a PVP tool, doesn't really help that much with PVE.
So I should get a two handed sword for PVE but should I use the same Drake armour and a sword and shield for PVP or should I change something when it comes to PVPing? I want to really be able to do both! So I want the right gear for both ways! :) What armour does your Summoner wear well PVPing & PVE?
For PVP you don't really do much damage. A 2-h sword will allow you to do a decent amount, a shield will increase survivability. It's really your choice on which of the two is mroe your style.

I am a poor so i'm still wearing Doom light. It's veru offense oriented and that's what i like. As soon as i can afford a few hundred mil i'll get the NM set which is similar in design.
OK so for PVP I don't do much damage as a PS BUT my Servitor will do most fo the damage right? I basically just kinda stand back and either send nukes in here and there, heal/mp my servitor and keep it alive right? Or how does it work for PVP?

Well, after a certain level your nukes don't do much any more.
ya so I've heard and PS eventually becomes much like a melee character! where as the SH goes completely nuker!

correct with Summon as main weapon
Wrong. You become a specialised healer/buffer with incredible PDef which usually assists in melee.
I'd say a PS is a hybrid tank/healer adn the summon is your fragile yet high HP DD. Kinda like a tyrant but slow and strogn rather than blindingly fast.
I went with theca as armor on my PS (p.def bonus) and dual stormbringers. Didn't bother to enchant them to get a SA.
Went from 40 to 50 pretty fast, but i am spamming css and pet ss like a mad man and on top of that an out of party prophet ^^.

As a general note i would suggest that you don't spend too much money on c-grade since you'll be out of it pretty soon and save up for b-grade whiich you are gonna wear for quite some time.

Be carefull with pvp in lower lvls since you will get smoked darn fast by higher lvls.
Drake has better PDef than theca, unless you plus the armour a little or wear a B Grade helmet/boots with it (but then, why not BW?).
theca has a higher pdef due to set bonus.
It was adjusted sometime between C2 and C3 I think so that Theca, unless enchanted or combined with higher level gear, now has lower PDef than Drake.

And by that, yes, I mean the full theca set.

Of course, Drake also looks horrendous on anyone except human fighters, elf girls and dwarf girls, so everyone should be wearing theca instead. :)

Theca has 2 p.def more if you count in the bonus ^^

Nah. Drake looks awesome on Dark Elf males. Believe me, I am one.

I was going to type a very long and well thought out post, but I didn't want to make a fool of myself with inncorect information. >.>
So what is better to do? get full theca set with BG stuff or go for the Drake set?
they have more or less the same p.def, so take the one that's cheapest.
The Summons can be fairly useful sub 40 if used right. The one that takes 90% is only really useful in dire situations (about to get killed by a raid boss etc / PVP in the arena), even then its not that great.

Below is how i utilised the shadow.

From my time as a Dark Wizard on Gustin this is what i'd usually do and get fairly decent xp from it.

Bare in mind you could do with an Over enchanted SOL and an Over enchanted Duals for this to help.

I'd nuke and body to mind until i was out of mp, if you do this right you can get some good xp for a decent amount of time. Once your finally flat out on mp summon your shadow equip your duals, use a swift attack pot, switch on your DSS and have the summon tank for you then you can just go nuts with the duals, basically do this until the summon runs out by which time you'll have all your mp back. Yeah the xp leach sucks but its better than just sitting on the floor resting doing anything. Unfortunate thing with this is that the summon takes about 2-3 hours to be able to use again.

Well thats what i did and it was good fun as it took me away from the simple 1-2 shot everything.

I'm currently a Lvl 35 human wizard at the moment and plan to go Warlock, i use my Kat the Cat from time to time as he has a regen masters MP which is very handy ;) i can't wait to try out the other cats in the arena when i hit 40 ^^ I've already finished beating on some cocky Orcs with my Bounty Hunter ;)
HMM that sounds like a good idea... I'll have to try it out and see thank you :)

So what is better to do? get full theca set with BG stuff or go for the Drake set?

Theca has a small pdef bonus, but lower base pdef than Drake. This means that Theca is somewhat lower than Drake unless you have every piece of your armor peaked, in which case it's a percent or two better...in other words, Drake matches Theca on PDef, but Theca will never match Drake on MDef.

Plus Drake looks cool on a male PS, while Theca looks more healer-y, IMHO.
No Problem, if you need any help at all give me a shout, i'm on Sieg as either Zench or Mcrafty

pvp in the arena is a "dire" situation... wow
Thank you very much I'll more need help when it comes to starting my second class change and trying to get use to using the servitor considering I've only used them once since I've been playing on my Dark Wizard :)

No Problem, if you need any help at all give me a shout, i'm on Sieg as either Zench or Mcrafty

<--- Also a warlock on sieg, SonofFlux
ok bad wording on my part, the pvp in the arena was an example of how it could be useful rather than a dire situation
Well the reason why I'm leveling either PS or SH is because I want to know which is better at PVPing and a rarely see PS on the Seig server and I hought it would be interesting to make one! I know most people will tell you that a necro is the way to go to pvp (BUT I don't want a Necro I want a Dark Elf) and Necro isn't the only character on the server to PVP so I don't want to go that route!! I'm just worried that I might have all the skills and right gear for the PS but I wont exactly know how to balance my servitor and I and I wont know how to PVP considering I'ver never done it before!

I'm just worried that I might have all the skills and right gear for the PS but I wont exactly know how to balance my servitor and I and I wont know how to PVP considering I'ver never done it before!

You're right to be worried. Not only is PvP somewhat different from PvE, but playing as a summoner can be weird the first couple times. Better get some practice in before your big match ;)
Is that advice for hiting 40+ and then running around and pking people? lol cuz that wont be much of a match if I just kill them and they don't fight back! and I don't wan to go to the arena and practice cuz if I'm not sure what I'm doing in the first place I will for sure die after possibly two hits LOL once I hit at least 40+ any one other willing to help train me in pvp on a summoner let me know please hehe :) or give me tons of advice on how it works as a pvp summoner cuz I'm currently in my 30's and well eventually be starting some of my quests soon and need to be prepared for once I hit 40 atl east even if I don't have full servitor still want to try it out kinda call it practice :) Just let me know!
Most of what works on yoru summoner will be self taught. We are a rare class and that means that there really isn't a knowledge base fo what is "best". I mean look at this thread. Almost every person does something different. More likely than not you will not set yourself up like we do, as such you'll have to build your own strategy. This i think is the best part about the class and probably the most enjoyable.
With regards to not knowing what to do, i know exactly what you mean, i've got the choice at the mo to go Necro/Sorc/Warlock and quite frankly the first one is used too much the 2nd one i've found boring up till now and i just love the idea of permenantly having a little pet running around killing for me :-)

I'm currently lvl 35 on Zench (my human wizard) and will be starting the class change quests fairly soon. I know what your saying on the PVP front i feel exactly the same but seriously your best bet is to go with members of your clan to the arena, a fairly deserted one if you can find it and just practice pvp ing there are lots of tips and tricks you can pick up. I NEVER pvp but went there with a couple of clan members last night, all about the same level on our mains (43) me as a BH Dwarf one as a Orc Tyrant and another as a Light Elf Archer, i ended up owning the Tyrant and almost took out the Archer as well, my point being is get in the arena and have some fun :) as you never know what its like until you start practicing. What are your main reasons for wanting to choose a summoner?
I like the summoner b/c I like having something fight for me and I enjoy summoning creatures all different ones and seeing what they do! I also just don't want to lose my nukes at the same time cuz I enjoy using them right now since I think they are pretty strong nukes! I just wanted people who play summoners the opinions and how well they PVP cuz I really want to try pvping with my character depending on if I'm going Summoner or SH!
The only way to have scaling nukes and scaling summons is to play a necromancer...which is largely why they're so strong.
BOOO I don't want a Necro thou lol I LOVE the look of the female dark elfs and I would rather be a SH or PS then a common always seen Necro! (No offence) Just I'm worried if I make a PS I wont know how to use them and suck LOL or if I make an SH they will get their ***** kicked heh! and I'll miss my servitors!?! AWW the hard decision of which path to walk.....
SH with a pet?
LOL I don't think an SH with a pet would help her out considering that her servitors aren't strong b/c they were justto give the Dark Wizard a taste of what it's like to either be a SH or PS! & I don't think you could get a pet strong enough to tank for her well she nukes from a far or even a pet to tank well she's pvping for range?!?
There isn't really anything that "tanks" in PvP...maybe next chronicle, but it's unlikely even there.
I just used nightshade last night for the first time effectivelly. I'm really eager to see tanks next chronicle now. Fought a SpS and didn't get touched. Just had nightshade UD and then use his skill while i melee'd the SpS. I think tanks are going to be pretty decent come C5.

Why didn't the SpS just re-target you for his next spell?

Edit: and, in a 1v1 situation like this, hate on a real tank would do nothing. He'd already have you targetted, hate wouldn't change that...
Alternate both skills with BSPS, fast enough she couldn't get a retarget fast enough
Cool so Servitors become your main attack & you become kinda like a melee character & thats how the fighting style is in PVP and PVE same thing almost?
For me it is. I know PS's who are still nuking in their low 60's to supplement pets. I think their way is a bad idea but a few weeks ago Bekkar came up with what i think is a workable nuker PS setup.

But yes my pet is my weapon, i'm just a delivery system for cubics, however if you buildyourself right (yay me) you can actually still do decent damage.
WHat was the system that Bekker came up with? I just can't remember it if i've read it heh (I'm forgetful sorry)
I'm actually doing it (or at least trying), when I have time to play my Phantom Summoner, and even I'm still iffy on whether or not it's really worthwhile. It's just for my own personal amusement.

The short version: get a nuker weapon, nuker tats, gobble shots, prefer the Shadow, and always duo with an SE.

Yes, a nuking PS basically requires constant outside assistance to be effective over long hunting sessions--without the recharging summon of the Warlock/ES, your MP just won't last long enough to justify nuking...and don't get me started on the Soulless *laugh*

Also, given that it uses a partied buffer, there's little reason to not do the same thing with a Necromancer, who can basically do it better. Style and a few minor perks.

Edit: Found the thread (http://boards.lineage2.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=questions&Number=553644&Fo rum=,,,,,,,,,,,All_Forums,,,,,,,,,,,&Words=&Search page=10&Limit=25&Main=553644&Search=true&where=&Na me=11351&daterange=&newerval=&newertype=&olderval= &oldertype=&bodyprev=#Post553644). Ok but I don't think that will work for me if I don't have an SE all the time to do it with I've got an SE in my clan just he's not always on that character!
I'd really only recommend it to people who play with a significant other and dual-boxers (or dual-instancers). Actually, scratch the word "recommend"...initial results look acceptable but I'm still not sure how it'll pan out.
Ok so unless I dual box I'm not looking like taht route would work for me right? :)
Phantom Summoners are generally melee due to the lack of scaling nukes and severe MP issues. Using an SE might allow you to partially bypass this, but that's definitely not the standard style of play. Take consolation from the fact that a PS performs admirably in the style left to it, melee.

Or play a nuker ;)
LOL ok thanks a ton for the info :)
