manor question

Is there something fundamental I am missing about this manoring thing?

It's not a rocket ship to riches in my experience so far.

I buy say 800 seeds and farm them...i get 500+ somthings. I turn those in for 28 'thons' (which folks tell me I might sell for 10k apiece).
How is that 'rich'?
Or if you get 250 silver nuggets? Okaaaay--they usually sell for 250-300a. You've netted 50-60k.
It takes a LONG time to earn that stuff.

What is the secret to the manor system I am obviously missing?
Why is it a road to riches? I can see it generating a LITTLE extra money--like a good quest--but how does it afford c-grade gear by investing in seeds?
Instead of selling those mats...use them to craft your C grade.
Aim for the big sellers....when Varnish is selling @ 1000 per farm the varnish.
It isn't a rocket ship so to say but it is a method to gain those riches...

When bones sells for 2500 farm bones :).
You just need to look at what mats cost more, and manor those on mobs (preferable multiple hp) within and just abouve the level writen on seeds. Then you will get more crops, and from it more mats.
The problem with farming the FOTM seeds is that its nearly impossible to get your fruit turned in. So while its all great to sell bone and varnish at the inflated rates, its just not always possible.

Now, I have always gone after the not so popular items, but still saleable, such as iron ore, mithril ore, cord, metalic thread, etc. Now the key here is to look at not only the selling price of the seeds, but the buy back on crops offered.

For example, I could usually get Great Cobal (I think thats it) for 100a each and turn in the fruits for a cord buy back (which at the time) was set at 1500a! In no time, I had over 4,000 cord. Now, because I'm impatient to turn my investment around, I usually just look for the best buy shop price (which is usually 400 to 500 each). Bada bing bada boom, I now have say 1,600,000 for an initial investment of say 50,000 in seeds.

What makes the manor so good now, is that they have made the shopping around for the best manor price easier with the new interface. Ok, you may have to pay a small commission, but its worth it.

Cord works best in conjunction with a buystore for coal and animal skin (or better, leather, which is not usually inflated in value over animal skin), and turned into crafted leather.

The market in this game takes thinking about to master. Just a little, but just doing anything blindly will always see you broke.

Agree... not saying that it could not be done better (and through refinement of the product into a more valuable commodity this is a way to make better profits). It really just depends upon your time frame and how you want to approach it.

For me, I really can't be bothered, so stick with the base mats which are in constant demand (i.e. not over inflated, but not impossible to sell) and for which I can turn my investment around quickly and start the process over faster.

Now on a transaction-by-transaction basis I may not make a huge profit (i.e. selling my cord for 400-500 as opposed to 2500 for over inflated bone), but over time I am matching, if not exceeding the potential profit of the bone seller. This is because I am reinvesting more quickly (i.e. I'm not spending time refining the product or hunting for seeds to buy because everyone else bought them up too quickly, or having to wait through multiple manor resets because I can't turn in my fruits), the general buy back price for these seeds tends to be higher (so I'm getting more mats for my fruit) and I can usually seed, harvest, turn in and start again multiple times during the day (i.e. the manor buy back has not been maxed out within the first 2.5 seconds of reset).

Now that said, I still try to get my bone/varnish/enria when I can :D

Truthfully? The secret is in the multipliers.

Higher material turnover, a good buyback, and a good number of fruit returns per seed can all make a 'cheaper' material an 'easier' profit than going for the 'in demand' ones.

Basically focus on these three multipliers:

1) Fruit harvested per seed. Some fruits have poor returns, others too good. Sowing on Multi-hp and higher level mobs can 'adjust' this return.

2)Current market Value above Base value. - Know what the game thinks your mats are 'worth'.

3)Buyback values. Pay attention to how much the cost of the seed is over the value the manor buys the fruit at.

There is more you can do by buying from one manor and selling to another, but those are the three basic things you have strong control over. (Picking a fruit/manor which gives a sellable material I leave up to you.)

Remember its [ Harvest * Buyback * Market Value ] = Profit.

And just like math, the higher you make each multiplier the better your profit. (And sometimes one high multiplier, can make up for another poorer multiplier.)

And finally, like everything else in this game, instant riches don't come easy. Sure you could fight tooth and nail for a week to make a 1M profit off Animal bones from one turn in...or you could make a steady 200K extra per day for an hours work and get that same 1M.

And personally, I'd rather take one hour to farm that 200K on a lowbie alt, then spend the rest of my time leveling my main and still get that cash I need by the time my main needs it. (Well...before he's two grades ahead anyway given market prices these days. >_< Ouchie on A grade Helms.)
