The amount of karma you lose depends entirely on the amount of xp you lose. A lvl 1 0% will lose 0 karma per death. At mid 60s I think I lose like 4k karma per death. I could be wrong on the 60s karma, but I think I had 12k karma and had to die 3 times to lose it.
If you get a brez or an xp rez the karma loss remains the same, so you can die it off and get b-rez and not lose any xp but still lose karma.
If you are in a clan war and are red, you will only lose 1% upon death, so you will lose less karma. Some clans declare war on their alt clans, so when they have karma they can use their alt clans to kill them, so they only lose 1%. Now this doesn't matter if you have 50k karma, but if you have 470 karma you don't need to lose the 4k karma from a 4% death.

Only reason why you guys should 'die' off carma is when you got more then 5 PK's other hten that fight it off, not worth it othervise, if someone come and kill yeah sure you died it of, but imagine if you never died :P
