whats the deal with this skill?
is it just a cheeper version of chillflame ( thinking from an orc mystic perspectiv )
or does it have some special too it. else chillflame seems much better.

It's basically just another DoT. Like how Mages get more than one nuke.

In the case of Venom, the key point is that it has a different 'type' than Chillflame. Venom is Poison and ChillFlame is a 'bleed' so you can cast both and they stack.

Venom also seems to do less damage per 'tick' but lasts about twice as long. The bleed skills seem to do more damage overall than the venom ones however.

One thing to keep in mind is that certain mobs resist posion, and other resist Bleed. So using one a mob that resists it could be a waste of MP. I have yet to see a 'weak to' either Bleed or Poison skill.

If your DoT'ing your way through the levels, it might make sense to go Venom/Sleep/ChillFlame instead of Sleep/Venom/Chillflame. In this way, the slowest acting skill gets the maximum amount of time to work. (Even without +Cast speed you should be able sleep stuff before it can hurt you if you start casting from max range.) Casting it last however is only worth it if it takes multiple DoT's to kill stuff.
Chillflame is not a "bleed" type DoT. It falls into a 3rd category, along with decay and freezing shackle, that stacks with both bleed and poison.
Third category should be something like fire/burn ish...

But either way, you are much better of using life drain / steal essence. Drain, hit, dead... Repeat (: Doing it right should give you no down time what so ever. If you´re at the right lvling spot that is.

Duoing, chill flame might be an option. Chill flame > Venom when hitting solo mobs.
Well, if Chill Flame is grouped with Decay and Freezing Shackle, then it is an "Earth" type skill. There are Earth resistant mobs, and there is a Surrender to Earth skill, used by Spellsingers.

And Venom, like stated above, is a Poison type skill, and there are Poison resist mobs and a Resist to Poison skill, also stated above. It is useful as an assist when doing melee damage. Because it acts slower and, I believe, costs less MP to cast, it won't be a "use just because you can" skill in melee, as Chill Flame would be in a melee situation.

Chill flame is better used as an assist in nuking, since in casts faster, and help cause enough damage to negate your slow cast speed overall.
