I played about a year ago but only long enough to get a lvl 30. So I am a "born again" L2 noob! I have a few questions that I would like opinions on as well as just wanted to say hi!
1) I have a lvl 30 Human Knight, but he has no gear or coin (I gave it all to the clan I was in before I cancelled). Should I keep him and maybe somewhere down the road outfit him? Or should I just delete him as I am not going to be playing him any time soon?
2) Because of the previous lvl 30, I now no longer get the new player buffs and perks. But I really liked Lionna and it seems to be a server with the least amount of crashes, griefers, and other deterrents. Would you reroll a new server just to get the buffs? Or is it really not that hard to get to lvl 25 without them anyways as to not make a big stink about them?
3) I made an Orc Fighter. Certainly I have read enough to know that the "power" classes are the casters and archers, and thats all well and good, but I like to smash stuff and don't care all that much about being the most competitive PvPer - rather would just fill a role well =) So are there any pitfalls or bonuses to being an Orc Fighter (looking to go Monk --> Tyrant) that I might not know about?
4) Certainly I realize I am not of a level where any clan would take me, but being alone will only be fun for so long and will want to get in with a good group of folks. I am open to roleplaying (I was in the RP clan Caelestis a year ago, dunno if they are still around) but overall just want to find a great group of people to be able to talk with and group with and share adventures with... any suggestions?
Thank you for your time reading this, hope to meet you out there in the world some time. I am looking forward to get back into this game as it just all intrigues me so much more than any of the other MMOs out there.
Well, you did it in past, getting a char to 30 without these new player bonuces, so i guess you can do it again, especialy since you got some experience paing L2. It's just SOO much easier to play with those bonuces. You get 12k ng ss (as a fighter), buffs and some heals and free upgrades for wearpons/armor.
Can't say about other servers, but yes, havent run into much of griefers, PKers and such on Lionna.
Tyrants seem to be nerfed in C5, their totem reuse is doubled, while duration stayes same. Also some of their totems got nerfed. Look at a tread in C5 forum for more info. How ever, that information is not final, and it may get changed.
Welcome back! I can't point you to any one clan (hey I'm still clanless, too) but I can point you to a number of really great clans with really nice people in them! None of them really care about levels or anything like "must be uber class" but rather like nice poeple and have fun. Also, if you want to RP there's a few threads on the front page here (look in the other New to Lionna threads) on good RP clans/alliances to get in touch with.
Only suggestion I have on classes is one I give everyone: don't worry about the best or worst, if you like what you're playing, keep playing it! If you don't then stop playing it ;)
Welcome back and hope you have fun! Feel free to PM me sometime too!
Don't have an opinion on 'best' class or race to play--whatever's fun (I too like to hit things with killing force).
My first reaction to your knight, however, was "keep him". What's the downside to keeping him anyway? You have plenty of other alt slots open presumably and you never know--making him a pally or DA someday could interest you (and you're not THAT far from either).
At 30 he could still use d-grade stuff (brig armor sells reasonably in Giran). You can get a bastard sword for 800k and the brig top and bottom for a bit over 500k...it's not like outfitting him to play will cost 5 million or something.
Who knows, maybe you'll clan with your orc and those folks will let you borrow some stuff for leveling the knight (maybe they even need another 40 level tank).
Good luck to you--my only advice? Keep the knight--you earned him.
Yeah thats what I figured. I had him deleting last night but before I went to work this morning I logged on and stopped it. I think originally he was gonna be a Pally, but either or could be fun at some point.
=) Thanks so far for the comments - looking forward to meeting some new people again (don't think anyone I played with a year ago is still around).
Hopefully my wife will give up the idea of going back to DAOC and will want to give L2 a whirl so I wont be so lonely, but not an issue to force with her =P
If you are interested in joining with an RP clan, the Echoes of Darkness is recruiting all races / classes. The only requirement is having a fairly "evil" outlook.
The orc would be the obvious guess, but even a knight > paladin can be corrputed.
Send me a PM some time (Olorae) and we can talk, if you're interested. If not, I can still pop by and give you a few good buffs.
Dont listen to jk there, corrupted paladins are called dark avengers ;). Anyway, welcome back. Einhasad templars have some folks running around in their low 20's you could party with when you get there on your orc. If you bring your pally to be out of retirement let me know, I have a soft spot for paladins and could help gear you up ;).
Welcome back! Two words for ya: Manor System! Take some time to browse the Giran markets to find out what sells for what (bone, varnish, iron are all good choices now), and read up on the manor system. If you pick your crops well and are persistant in getting seeds bought quickly and crops sold back, you will have no problem with gear for a long time.
The manor system will keep you in great gear all the way to level 51 at least, and you'll never have to worry about money spent on soulshots.
As to clan, I recommend you join one soon - there are plenty of clans hungry for active players of any level. You can always switch to a stronger clan later when you're a higher level if necessary.
Well I reached lvl 17 last night. Some nice person gave me a Comp. Bow and some consumables, and for that I am greatful...
But dear god is it lonely out in the immortal plateau... I'm really looking forward to adventuring with some folks and joining a clan, but I suppose I have to wait till I make my class change at 20 =/

Congratulations! You're getting closer!

The pity with the orc quests is that you have to start them in the orc village. 17 is a good level to be on the mainland working on getting parties and finding a clan.
well there are still some repeatable adena quests in orc land so I will still stick around here, that and I have yet to venture into the orc cave thats nearby (can't wait to be lvl 19 and going in there for fun =)
Besides there is still plenty of beasties that can kick my green rearend where I am at so I will just stay... only really tired of all the running =)
oh and jkoster I will try and give you a holler in game the next night or two.
Repeatable quests are good. They make a good resource for starting characters.
The Cave of Trials is fun. I had to go there for my 2nd class change. Kind of makes me want to roll up an orc.
Feel free to PM me any time. I'm usually on (the joy of insomnia!), so odds are I'll respond. If not, congratulations. You'll be one of the first that caught me AFK.
And I'm not quite sure what happened to Caelestis. Give me a day or two and I can find out.

Anyone remember clan Caelestis?
Hmm...welcome back first.
Yea....20 is probably the minimum clan entry point these days...and I imagine the wind torn plains from whence you hail are in fact dreadfully lonely these days.
A few things have changed since you left...most notably the concept of a pick up group is largely dead. I say this because you only meet large numbers of other people in places like the Tower of Insolence (Cruma is a ghost town these days...don't go there) and the Catacombs.
Catacombs are nice...BUT are rather cost prohibitive to the new guy...and ToI, DVC, etc. are most always alliance groups >.<
All in all though you're back on the right server...everyone else is dreadfully jealous of us =)
I do remember Caelestis...an RP guild as I recall.
www.lionna.com (http://www.lionna.com) is a good site for finding a guld with some similar play styles, and moreover no particular level requirement....I'd mention something to MarcusAlberton of the Order of Rising Blades or to Olorae from the Echoes of Darkness.
As to orcs fighters...well as a tyrant you can run faster than anyone in the game...kudos there. And you swing insaneo fast, and your dodge rate doesn't stink (it's not great either, but hey...)
This means you can effectively chew a hole in most of the melee classes out there, if you're a little sneaky and a little lucky killing archers won't be dreadfully difficult....and you're still going to get smoked by every nuker in the game :D
Soloing will be miserable...usually is in MMORPG's...if you've got an extra comp and some extra change dual boxing a healer/buffer would be a good idea probably....if not you'll want a group past 40.
Till then you can still solo reasonably well assuming you've got the gear and take the time to hunt mobs that drop heal pots with some consistency, and have the sense to not blow SS like a crazy monkey with edible undies (who, if you didn't know, are prone to spamming SS in a Fortune-Sucking-4th-of-July-Pretty-Lights kind of way).
Well that's all
Welcome Back again! :)
EDIT: You're already talking to Olo :p so ignore that part :D
Hey thanks Tsadkiel, I really liked Lionna hence why I came back even knowing I wouldnt get the newbie buffs!
Yeah I was in Caelestis if only for a month - great people, and yes it was RP which I like to do on occasion. Adds a little flavor for me =) though not required for me to have fun with folks, just a change of pace.
I sent a PM to Marcus on these boards, hopefully I will get a response =) Lionna.com seems rather slow in terms of traffic so I haven't posted there yet (though I did a year ago often), of course they are probably more quality response, but these Lionna boards have been superb from what I have seen. Bunch of new players lately and you guys/gals always have a courteous reply to give!
Overall I am excited to be back, just itchin for the reason I came back - clan interaction!
Of course my playing L2 again has sparked my wife's passion for DAoC (uhg), but maybe some day I can get here over here for some hair-raising PK theatening action.
I kind of disagree that the idea of a pickup group is dead.
If you're a level 30ish light tank once u get any gear you can pick up a group in Dion any time of the week right now.
Raid groups have been informally forming there for weeks and the 'cap' seems to be they don't want players over lvl 40 (or under about 28).
Same with small groups to nearby cata's--you could group well in pilgrims/heretics of course.
I think the "low level" part of Lionna is alive and kicking for one reason or another (not sure why). Sure Gludin is empty just now--but as little as February of this year there were lots of folks there--many of those not quite to 40 yet.
My pals and I were counting the other day...we could account for over 70 raid bosses we'd taken down in pick-up groups in the past 5-6 weeks. Some in group thought the number was closer to 90!
No one wants me now (lol)...most nights I get turned down for 3-4 groups that take off without me!
So, I disagree that Lionna pick up groups are done--they are alive and well at your levels. imo
Eh...that's probably true low lvl....I guess I don't usually look for groups at all prior to 40, but I did see a lot of people forming and looking for groups in HC and PN when I was at either of them last...
And we still seem to have a good D grade market in Dion.
Mostly I meant that you don't see groups of 3-4 people killing single HP mobs too often anymore....something that was fairly common some few chronicles back, simply because it was the best way to lvl and make money, and grind for specific parts for specific things.
Of course you do see that in the higher lvl areas, FoD and such, where the mobs are big enough that you just can't dou or solo there effectively anymore.
But for a guy just starting out with no gear the catacombs and doing raid bosses can be a very expensive and frusterating way to go.
And since he's not a nuker, a tank, or a healer/buffer RBG's might be harder to come by...mb not...and a good party and some luck could certainly do good things for acquiring early gear....guess I might have to start a new toon and run him up scratch to see >.<
