Well i just returned to L2 after 2 years, a lot of content and neat stuff, farmers are still here..., but i wont boder them untill they dont boder me, anywya eveything cool, but What is with the Lag on TEON... One of the most populated servers and i have prety nasty lag. My connection is okie AO, EVE online work flawless, but L2 Teon is pretty messed up, is so hard to upgrade the freakin server? Why we are payin for lag? I hope it will be ok from tomorow night maintance, but knowing you guys, low changes...
You do know that there are several things that people call 'lag'. Most of those are nothing that NCSoft has any control over.
I could go into a whole discourse here on how packets travel through the Internet and why you can have no problem one place while being unable to get to another place, but PvrJudas said it better in another thread... (Anyone have that link?)
Yes i know what u are talking about, but when the rest of the mmorpgs i have pc dont lag, all the sites work perfectly, download, upload, US, Europe, then i start to wonder what is goin down, and after asking ppl around me if they lag, they had the same problem, i hope is just a temporary problem.

Well, you're not completely wrong.. but please explain to me, like I'm a 7 year old, what the logic is behind me having no lag anywhere else except L2, and in L2 I only lag on Teon... I live in Europe, and when I get on Bartz (when it's Heavy) I get no lag, or at least very little lag... But when I log onto Teon, I get Lagged out of my shoes... Hah? And guess what.. Its not just me! People living in 10 different European countries have EXACTLY the same problems... Hmmm?
Everytime you connect from one place to another place on the internet it follows a path known as a route. Along the way there are things that help the flow move along, those are called routers. Routers are owned by a wide variety of companies because no one owns the Internet. Some people take better care of their routers than others, some paths have more or less traffic than others.
All of this is very comparable to traveling on roads. If you are driving to your friend's house from yours, you take a certain path. Another friend of both of you lives in a diferent place. He takes a different road to get to your friend's house.
If somewhere along the way a road was in very bad repair or there was some other problem it would take you longer to get there than the second friend. It's not the fault of the person you are trying to visit. They don't own the roads.
Now in general, everyone who lives in the same area you do is going to take the same path. So if there is a problem (especially one close to the final destination) then MANY people are going to be slowed down.
But then again, if there's a consistant history of bad roads to your friends little outhouse, you'd start saying "sorry buddy, ain't going to your outhouse until you get another, I'll go to my other friends outhouse".
This has been a problem for a long time, and its been happening for months on end many times through Lineage 2's history, it can't all be washed off on "other companies"

QFT. It's not a temporary thing, it's constant. And it seems to go hand in hand with the fact that, for some uknown reason, Teon seems to be down 3 times more then all the other servers put together... But I guess whe can blame the bad roads for that too...
Except in the case the provider they use has crappy routing to place A, but not place B. In which case it would indirectly be NCSofts fault for either using a poor provider or not telling the provider to see if they can fix things.
Teon does have a lot of lag, in the sense that I've met many people who lag simultaneously with me, or at different times, but still do lag. The cause of this I can't say, since I'm not packet sniffing every route to the server, but it's not any smarter to completely shrug off the issue just because you happen to be lucky and not experience any of it.
And FYI, server lag behaves differently from network lag, and NC seems to take responsibility (occasionally, when they feel amiable) for the former only, regardless of where the problem might be.

However if it were server lag, when I play with a person in the exact same place at the exact same time I would also experience this lag. In the case I was referring to, I do not, therefore it isn't likely to be server lag.
Yes, as it was intended to be imply by me stating that the two kinds of lag are indeed different that I obviously DO know the difference, I fail to see your point. Moreso because that wasn't the main point in the post. The thing is, network lag can be either controllable or not for NCSoft and their service provider, in the former case they should take steps to remove the issue, in the latter, if it's some node off somewhere they have no control of, and can't route around due to the nature of the 'net, they should at least have the courtesy of examining if they can do anything, and if not, let the players know what the issue is.
You also conventiently avoid replying to the posts mentioning this lag only happens in L2, or even specifically on a single server in L2. When traceroute reveals no chokepoints but the server still lags, I don't think it's too much to assume that there might be something wrong at the other end and ask if it is so.
I didn't conviniently not reply to anything. I replied directly to the posts to which I referred.
Also, if there are no choke points between here and there and if two people play in identical places at the same time, with one having a problem and the other not, I'd look to the PC next.
The lag is terrible for alot of people and MANY people have quit, I might too if this keeps up, but the lag for me is on Kain.
My computer is brand new, my connection is flawless on EVERY other game I play, I got a new cable box thing to try and fix it, I got a direct line connection thru my wall directly from the cable pole so Im not on a splitter...

Thank you Jute, for typing the whole [923] for the [923] n00bZ.
I play on Kain and have never had a serious lag problem. If you have uncontrollable lag for 2 months, and nobody else does, I'd say that it isn't NCSoft's problem at all.
About 15% of my clan is lagging terribly, to the point where the lag deminishes enough past say, midnight or whatever, to the point where they can at least move around.
Actually now that I think about it, the lag started roughly the exactly same time the battle tourny server came online, I ran flawlessly with no lag EVER, until then.
Ur not a hero but I will be soonish if this lag leaves ~~
Anyway, its more than just me lagging, its quite a few people, I dunno, its just weird that im lagging this badly, and there no real way to fix it, oh well, I have options. hoho
This is like my 4th forum acc, IP banned at my house, posting from another location, its hard for me to be a board hero ~~ yeah its true my board skills are low.
