I was crafting some DSS and see this shouted in Dion:
"TrainedBuffalo: i'm here to help you" I look and there is a this big buffalo next to me. I tried to talk to it, and I got the sword when I clicked on it instead of the talk box.

I think someone has been at an animal farm and trained a pet, and ported to dion. That is why you got a sword on it, since it's not yours. :)

Well it wasn't the same as the baby buffalo this thing was pretty big!!! It also had a health bar like a mob would. :eek:
It's from the beast farm. You should have ordered some rib eyes from it. BTW they're great for nukers because they recharge but they can be a pain to get.
Depending if u are melee or nuker, they give different buffs:
for example VR for melee, empower for nuker
Usually they give 3 buffs out of 5 possible
They heal melees and recharge nukers.

Its not a quest,but a feature of the beast farm
At the beast farm , u will see half hp mobs along with predators.
U can buy spice from a foodseller there, then u start feeding the beasts.
They will grow from 1/2HP ->1HP->2HP->4H or a pet.

so if you feed them do you get to keep them temporarily?
Some of my clan was out at the Beast Farm this weekend.
We had alot of fun taming beasts and goofing off.
It works like this -
1) Buy Crystal/Golden spice from Food Vendor.
(I haven't noticed any difference in which food type you use)
2) I put the spice on my hotbar
3) find mobs that look just like the baby pets.
Alpen Cougar, Alpen Buffalo, Alpen Kookaburra
4) Select mob (make no mistake, this is a MOB).
5) 'Feed' the mob spice by using the hotkey.
6) mob will 'grow' to 1x HP mob and aggro - keep feeding it.
Be aware, as the mob grows, you will untarget it- reselect and keep feeding. Mob will change to 2x HP - keep feeding.
Upon final conversion you will have either a 4x HP mob snacking on you, or a Trained Cougar, Buffalo or Kookaburra.
Spice works like strider food - they will continue to eat it from your inventory until it's gone. They can also choose to run off at anytime, it is a wild animal after all.
As a mage I got : Empower, Acumen, Bless the Soul and Windwalk for buffs. Maybe Shield also. The recharges were very nice too.
The talking you saw was the pet taking another packet of spice. For some reason they talk when they eat.
I've noticed it's catching too. The Bishop in the party was sneaking packets of spice and mimic'ing the cougar.
But that's another story.
It is still a mob however. It is possible to target the wrong mob and take out a trained pet, including your own.
I have no idea what the success-failure conversion rate is - but i do recommend taking friends along. ;)
