Isn't this against the rules?

Ok, heres a few screenshots from Erica's hero chat over the past few days. Since no one seems to be being punished I assume this is all ok to be said in a one way server wide broadcast where no one can respond to it. Therefore it can't be against the rules to post it here.

http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/8593/slander0mu.jpg Screens here (http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/8593/slander0mu.jpg)

Therefore I ask this question. Should the users of herochat be allowed to use this chat to accuse people of 3rd party program useage, which is certainly not in charecter with the game, is mainly lies aimed at destroying legitimate player's reputations and is none of their right to decide who uses 3rd party programs, it is a GM's job. Also, if I were to leave the names mentioned in herochat in the picture on these foums the thread would get locked as you are not allowed to accuse people of botting. Why is this different in server wide shout?

Also Why can they openly promote illegal buying of adena and bypass the swear filter using numbers to represent letters? Does this make it into a different word so it is not offensive? If so can I shout it in normal sohut?

To my knowledge nothing has been done to punish these charectes although they are reported daily over the past week or two for these types of offense. Does this mean that they fit in with the gameplay and are allowed?

Who really cares about hero chat? Turn the **** thing off.
The problem is that those "heroes" should have been removed from the game for a handful of other reasons altogether anyway.

I can't remember anymore, who from the staff was it who promised that the "heroes" would get especially close attention? I didn't really notice anything.

Cal
Prolly not, it just means that customer support hasn't had time to deal with it. More and more examples of how customer support is falling behind with demand are begining to emerge.

One of the GM's came on a few days ago saying that the customer support dept. is growing so you might see a response...but...like most promises...words are cheap. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for action. Good luck and if I were you I'd just disable the hero chat option. It's what I do.
Go tell the teacher Jimmy pushed you by the slide.

What should happen when you become a hero:
"Agent Fleming: Agent Hurley, I want you to give this scumbag a cavity search! I'm talking Roto-Rooter! Don't stop until you reach the back of his teeth!"
We knew heroes would be by far the most moronic creatures on the face of Aden, right when we learned that the hero status would be implemented. As we also knew that heroes are those that should probably have been permanently banned from the game long before they made heroes... for obvious "unmentionable" reasons... We knew that.
No, he's saying nothing'll happen even if you massacre your braincells by watching the children massacre the English language with their little rotflolzomgubot 'discussions'. Report them if you feel there's some reason to actually bother, otherwise just turn it off and accept the fact that the percentage chance of a legit player getting into hero status is so small an ant could step on it and not notice.

That's right. If I don't like anything that's on TV (which is like 99% of the time), I turn it off. I don't go crying to Sony.
Actually one of our heros got a warning for saying ****** in hero chat and was told to not do it again or it would be a temp ban.

Actually one of our heros got a warning for saying ****** in hero chat and was told to not do it again or it would be a temp ban.

:O
Hero Chat is not like a television program. I mean, sure, I can turn it off(did that 1st day) if I dont like hearing it, but that does NOT change the fact that it is a GLOBAL chat that potentially ANYONE can read. What you say in Clan, Alliance and Party chat are your business, if your own clannies, alliance or party people report you for things said there, thats probably a bad sign. But Hero Chat SHOULD be monitored closely and be held to a higher standard than other mass broadcasting channels, and the penalties for abusing it should be more harsh than penalties for other channels. Hero chat is a privelage, and should be taken away from those who can not use it responsibly.
Yes, I knew right away that heroes would be the worst [923] (not hard to guess actually :p) but just because you can turn the chat off (*sigh of releief*) the smacktalking and immature personal insults don't become any better. And if one can get temp-banned for smacktalking on normal shout, why not so for doing the same thing on global shout chat?

Let the staff change spots for a day, send the board mods ingame to clear that mess up and let us have fun on the boards in the meantime. (The ingame happeneings during that time wouldnt be pretty to look on anyway ;))

Cal
Well he actually used a curse word before that too, but part of his warning involved "Please be aware that Hero Chat has especially strict rules of conduct due to the fact that the entire server can see what is said there. Please take extra care not to say anything remotely offensive in Hero Chat."

Actually it is more like a TV program since everyone can see it if they wish.

Should it be held up to a higher standard? Absolutely.

Do I care if they accuse me of every EULA violation under the sun? Not one bit. Actually I might be entertained if they did this. Against my better judgment I actually had it on briefly. What a bunch of crap. Maybe it was just Hindemith heroes but there wasn't even any trashtalking. They appear to be just a bunch of high-priced shills. "WTB/WTS" is all you'll see on Hindemith.
Turn it off, go cry to GM, blah, blah blah.

Most of you don't realise that the problem is not in me being upset reading this stuff, it is the fact that OTHERS are bring told false information, OTHERS get announced to that countless players who have put alot of time and effort into their charecher have used illegal programs. SO when said legitimate player reached their goal (Say 76) all the others on the server give don't care because they ahve been told the person used illegal programs.

I'm also concerned that all the cussing and filth that comes out of these "heros" will be read by younger players who will find it offensive.

So really, where does me turning it off make any difference for the rest of the server?

Firstly, you might want to grasp the concept of remotely offensive before posting silly hypotheticals.

That said, I'll still give you and everyone else credit for beng able to recognize a punk as a punk. Some (not all) of the people who have earned their way to Hero chat show exactly what a punk they are. Not really surprising to any of us.

I'm not personally offended and as such I keep it on. It's good to keep track of which Heroes are whiney, crying, hypocritical simps and which clans seem to happily accept such into their ranks.
That, hun, is the wrong word to emphasise. "Remotely offensive" means "if there's the slightest chance it might be deemed offensive by the depressive child over there who just lost his gold fish in a tragic accident"

I've never reported anybody for anything. I just don't have the energy and could careless if people are avoiding chat filters and what not.

As to reporting bots, I don't bother with that either. If they are in a room I want, I just ask them nicely to leave, and that they can have the room in 2 hours. After they come back I go to the next bot room for 2 hours. Bots save the good rooms for me. :)

People who go out of thier way to be offended should once be kicked for their moronity and then again for undermining the whole idea of protecting those that really might be offended for good reasons. And then be kicked again for being [923]s.

Unfortunately most of them are descendants of those kicked out of Europe... *Sigh* The states are full of them. :(
"grasp concepts" "silly hypotheticals"

hahahahahaha.

I know EXACTLY the standard I was questioning--and not hypothetically. I put it in that form so the slowest among you could keep up with the concept.

So someone asked if someone said something about them that was untrue in a format everyone could hear...had the 2nd someone done something that was against the rules?

Stick with me here slowbies.....FIRST you must establish that 'injury' can in fact occur from typed words in a game. THEN (for those of you from california I'll type slowly) you have to attempt to APPLY the rule standards.
My points should be obviously clear--and in no way hypothetical.
YOU CANNOT BE INJURED BY WORDS.....and even if you could....supposed rules with ambiguous terms like 'remotely offensive' and 'refrain from mentioning illegal 3rd party programs...' are capricious and dangerous.

Under the ridiculous prohibition of 'mentioning illegal 3rd party programs' the following is bannable (example to help you understand the non-hypothetical premise)

player 1 (noob): "how come "hghgfhghgf" won't talk to me and I can't rezz him?"
player 2 (exp player): "cause he's a bot"

Player 2 gets banned for providing a helpful explanation to noob??? He does under the 'rules interpretation'!!!!!

Being offended by words is an abhorrent concept. Having rules comprised of "non-language" suggests that the rules are intended to be fluid and applied OUTSIDE of common sense and general understanding.

So--for those still with me so far: the question posed by OP doesn't have an actual answer. He should ignore words typed in a game because they don't matter. If he can't ignore them he should appreciate that the standard he begs for today will be used against him tomorrow.
Non-hypothetical enough for you now?

EQ__Quay...your assurance made me lmao--funny stuff!

YOU CANNOT BE INJURED BY WORDS

Try shouting "Fire" in a crowded theater.

All generalizations are false.

Carry on (lived in California for a while...).

player 1 (noob): "how come "hghgfhghgf" won't talk to me and I can't rezz him?"
player 2 (exp player): "cause he's a bot"

(exp player) is a moron. Dead player could simply be afk.
Double and triple posting is offensive.
I could have sworn I posted in here

Who cares about heros lol

chatting words in a video game makes me cry wahhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmbulance
I think you all take the term "beeing offended" far too serious.

The point of rules in a chatroom (like L2) is simply to keep the environment cool and comfortable for the majority of the participants.
And since one punk on a bad trip can make the game a pain to play for hundrets of others (by smacktalking like no tomorrow in Giran shout chat for example) it's in the best interest of a company that wants to keep most of their customers happy to interfere there.

One could say I'm "offended" by pointless smacktalking in giran shot chat while I try to find good offers between the insults, which you cannot even /block. However I prefer so badly annoyed that it should be forbidden. Not because my feelings are hurt or I must go cry to my mom about it, but simply because most people don't want to see such stuff in a chatroom they pay for.

I doubt mention of botting counts as advertisement and they are not saying the names of any such programs only its usage. However I agree and think this is a lame use of hero chat and might border on the grounds of liable. I think NCsoft is the ones to blame here regardless as obviously they aren't doing any monitoring of the chat. You can't blame these heros if no restrictions are imposted on them. I think NCsoft obviously needs to start monitoring things more and in cases when people accuse someone of botting:
Find out if that person is botting and punish them if they are or if that person is not botting punish the person for falsely accusing them. removal of hero status for the current period is fair in my mind.

You know how when a post gets moved, there still remains a link that says : This post has been moved. (as a link so you can get to it fast). But in the case of this post, it was moved in secret, leaving no trace (hence the sweeping under the rug comment).

Sometimes it comes up again when I focus my attention more on "not be cought by my boss while trolling the boards at work" then "don't make any [923]ing spelling mistakes or you might horribly offend someone."

We're steering into offtopic tho. :p

Cal
:D

I believe what we have in play in this topic are at least two separate concepts (and perhaps a few minor ones).

One being (as has evolved moreso in later posts) the sensibilities of L2 players or people in general. Being one of those "rude Americans" I have zero time for political correctness, nor do I hold myself responsible for the well-being of another's personal sense of self-esteem. I call it as I see it. I quite easily distinguish between libelous statements and those that some people simple don't want (read: choose not to want) to hear/read.

That said, I was also raised to be respectful of others and to remember the company I am in and not to go out of my way to be offensive (unless it's a REALLY funny joke or I REALLY have a good reason to piss someone off). I believe they call that maturity. Perhaps there is a better word...

The second concept is whether or not the EULA is being violated. For that, one must only read where it warns you from using language that could be remotely offensive. It clearly does not matter whether you, as a well adjusted, emotionally secure person can deal with what is being said... if there is even the tiniest (remotest) possibility that someone of relatively sound mind can be offended by what is being said... it shouldn't be said.

Luckily, NCS and most of the players have a liitle something called common sense. We immediately turn our sympathy sensors off to those kooks who find offense in everything they can squeeze some craved attention out of. Most of the players know this and thus the envelop gets pushed a bit and the community is rich and vibrant with many levels of conversation, some less "careful" than others.

That said, any tolerance shown to those players who are pushing the envelop is done solely at NCS' discretion. There comes a time when NCS says "that was the line you shouldn't have crossed." And you get in twubble. If you didn't strictly adhere to their guidelines, you honestly can't blame anybody but yourself... even if all the other cool kids are getting away with it.

Sub concepts include whether the people you hear in hero chat have any semblence of character, whether people who report should turn off the hero chat so as not to hear the offensive discussion, whether people should have to be forced to disable a chat to avoid offensive speech vs "freedom of speech" allowance due to the ability to disable chat...

Now to DrakkosIV. Perhaps if in the future you don't "put it in that form so the slowest among you could keep up with the concept" people won't get the impression that you are among the group you are supposedly pandering to.

Have a great day.

Point taken! I would never want to be known as a panderer...i've been in counseling for that very thing (and thought I had been making progress :().
As a recovering panderer I feel badly (but probably not offended)....
Thanks for banter in all seriousness. Perhaps you are right after all. I intended only to point out my opinion that question was rhetorical in the extreme. With all kidding aside, I neither condone disagreeable language in game NOR whining about imagined insults.
If I was misunderstood I need to cut the hyperbole and be more clear.
