hmm Lineage II numbers are up

Hmmm.. I wonder how many of those new acounts are "unmentionable" acounts... Judging by the blow-up Teon has experienced in these past manths, I would roughly 40-50% of them would probably be "unmentionable". But still, an increase in player base is allways good! Time for a new server? Well, its been allmost a year since that time has come up.. I hope they do it sometime in the (not too distant) future...
Please explaint to me why you feel we need a new server.

Hunting spots? With C4 those have been greatly increased. If your hunting spot is taking go find another.

Lag? Well, people don't seem to understand that it's not necessarily server based. I live in Japan and I often get much less lag than my NA and European friends.
(Actually I almost never ever get lag.)

What other reasons are there?

forgot to mention kill them and take your spot back :)
#1 reason? an actual european based european server.
So we have 1000 new players on the servers in NA. The rest are why prices have gone up so high. Still no need for new servers.

I have a feeling most people who want a new server want it so the can be there at the begining of the server. If this is the case it wont matter. Because buy the time you hit your 2nd class change there will be 1000 toons lvl 70 plus for sell on that server. So any legitimate player will still be in the same position they are in now. Actually maybe even worse because gear and weps will be scares and exstreamly expensive.
Exactly.

Farmers move in EN MASS day 1, and a month later 75's are for sale. Noone is farming mats and noone is crafting (dwarves suck so bad in PvP now). Raid bosses are 100% camped.

Meanwhile, normal players are still in their 40's, and the only way to get anything at all, is to buy it with real cash.

No new server needed, even if every cat/necro room on the server is farmer camped 24/7. That alone is a good 10,000 accounts.
Why not a new server? Dont you people understand basic economics? More servers = more players = more stuff for NA players, we get heard more and its overall better for us. The better NCSOFT NA does, the more we benefit. I dont see how adding more server would be detrimental. Especially when almost 8 to all of the servers during weekend play are on "heavy" status.

Having more server are good. They are not bad. If you dont want to start on a new server, dont start on it. I dont see how it would affect players who are already playing on servers that are existing already. Heck, in fact, it would be better for new players. How many times have I heard from new players that they wished they could start the game on an even footing with everyone? I mean seriously, why not?
Everyone on these boards complains about in game problems that take too much time to resolve by GMs.

Another server just means more work for them. We don't need another server period.

PS And newbies tend to choose Bartz because they figure the more the better. I think servers should have caps to prevent this :p

(Real life friends wanting to join the same server as you could get a special pass or something, I'm sure it could be resolved some way)

No, it sould not mean more work for them. True, they seem outnumbered by the problems they 're facing as it is. The solution is simple though. NCSoft should get more people and work harder. And a new server can in no way be bad.
If you think the Chinese are playing WoW, thats not it. They have their own Chinese only MMORPG that I think its called MUOnline or something like that. It actually is the biggest MMORPG, dwarfing both Lineage and WoW, although I hear that its really made for the Chinese market (chinese related content etc...). It hasn't really gotten out except for within China itself, but hey with 1/3 or soething of the world's population, who the hell cares if it ever gets out? lol...funny and ironic.

Also, with the advent of the HUGE crackdown of identity theft in China against Korean users and the HUGE lawsuit that went against NCSOFT Korea in Korea, I can see how those numbers took a dive in both those regions.

Well, the official reason apparently was that they did not have any "new" products that launched between Jan-Feb..but it sounds like a BS answer...anyway heres the newslink I found:

Well, if you're right about MU being the hottest thing in China, they are more stupid then I thought. I have tried MU some time ago in a private server, and I wouldn't recommend that anyone played it for more then a week. Its stupid, stupid, stupid. I mean the graphics i liked very much, true... But I wouldn't go that far as calling it a MMO. Its a click-click-click fest. I mean, iI've known people who have been playing it who LITERALLY used to place an asshtray on their mouse so that the button stayed pressed and went about doing other things in the meantime, while the game played itself.

P.S. What was that you said about Korean and Chinese lawshuits? I haven't heard anything about it, so please enlighten me if you will. I'll be very interested to learn more about it.
If you look at the growth charts, most of the new people on NA/Europe are in Europe. I'd say 10,000 new Europians in the last three months is reason enough for a new server.

Despite what the naysayers are trying to say I do believe a new server is called for and I think it's probably coming.
New servers are fine and dandy, but who cares. Most people tend to pick #1 on the list anyways, and if not, they go where their friends are, random or after checking out the forum/other places. A European based server would be nice, but I still havent had much problem being on Bartz on heavy except for having 200+ in ping, which doesnt hurt me unless its extreme lag.

What hurts Lineage II is basicly those tiny problems that never seem to get fixed, balance and gameplay. I have spilled out about 400 suggestions, if not more to this game because I love it. The graphics, the adventure you journey on with friends, the places and things that really make your day in the mindnumbing grind we all take part in every day, and not least the mood Lineage II sets that is very unlike other games.

It feels chaotic, and it should for we are all in a chaotic chronicle. Reds roam the land, wars are fought, sieges are done, its all fun to some point, and not so fun from other points.

The worst part really is economy, because of the low drop rate/spoil rate etc. on material, specially key material and materials we need lots of. Its hell trying to craft anything with prices going up to infinity these days. People need material circulation to keep alive for the very reason a warsmith is needed:

- Materials drop for you, yay you have enough to make something.
- You get spoilers in the clan to spoil key parts and recipes.
- You go to a crafter and craft it.
- New armor, great, now you can keep grinding better!
- When you have good enough armor and dont need anything else in that department, good, keep crafting to feed warsmiths stuff to crush for SS/SPS etc.
- The money you make goes to buying SS/SPS etc. so you can grind, whilst the dorf gets loaded.
- The dwarf can now supply for castle siege/clan stuff/himself/herself or waste it on enchants or other things
- Repeat this.. now the game has a money circulation where everybody can get gear/consumables and play the game how it was ment to be: PvP/siege/mass pvp/ganking and thrill.

Now, take away part one where you get material drops, you choke the whole system, and those who can get materials by farming manor or bothering playing a dwarf (most likely botting it) control the whole economy.

Making dwarves more attractive and upping the material drops would hurt farmers.. not much, but people could actually start making something themself.. An A-grade helmet might not longer cost you your shirt, pants and underwear if spoilers could get key material a little easier and recipes a little easier.

Im not saying PTS increase, but atleast something much more reasonable..

Its a lovely game, its a shame that only those with lots of money or know the market really really well, bot farmers and those with big bucks who can actually enjoy the most out of this game whilst we others struggle to even get to their point which are so far away it starts loosing its fun and thrill.

I love Lineage II, dont get me wrong.. Twice have I taken a break from this game, twice have I returned. Friends, those fun moments, sieges/mass PvP and the background story of this game keep me smiling every time I play this game. The community is something special for sure, each server with its own personality. Fix it up a little, and I will be smiling even more ;)
If you look at the history charts, Lineage 2 is more popular now then it ever has been before. With C5 coming and the end of the Chaotic Chronicles, the begining of a new set of Chronicles it should bring in more.

When NCKorea said the Chaotic Chronicles were coming to an end one thing came to mind. Gracia, not by Chronicle but by expansion. It's ok, after so many free Chronicles I'll pay to get an expansion. Where is my pre order please.
NCSoft has said that we will never have to pay for a Lineage II expansion. When Chronicle 6 comes out (and hopefully Gracia is part of it), we won't have to pay for it at all, just like the previous Chronicles.

Did anyone else notice the Korean numbers? They're HALF of what they were a year ago. Perhaps there were hundreds of thousands of illegal players there who were banned? That's frightening.
They said they had no plans to make an expansion you have to pay for. That was a long time ago. They also said it was possible. Big difference from never. When your pramoting free expansions you don't say that you will eventually have a pay to play expansion.

An expansion would put gold edition boxes on the shelves. New classes and races would draw new players. Never seen an MMO add a continent with out an expansion. What they said of the end of the Chaotic chronicles reaks of expansion.

If that would be illegal players, we could certainly use one of those bannings over here two. And about this being frightening, I agree. But really, is there anyone here that really thinks the legit players represent more then 50% of the total paying accounts? Well, I certainly don't... :o
wow did you guys even look at the total number of all march account added up? it's 950,567 now multiply that by $15.....dam $14,258,505. I know I've read threads that say NC soft doesn't have enough man power to put new stuff in, well if those figures are right I'd say NCsoft has plenty of opportunity to do so.

I wonder how much their bandwidth costs...?
Sorry don't want to look again. Was that world wide? If it is Koreans pay $30 USD per account.
yes world wide. Do you think that $168 million would be enough to cover the bandwith use?

Global companies don't think "world wide" when it comes to local profits. I'd be more interested in NCNA revenue.

well if there is 89,337 accounts as of March of 06 then it would be a gross amount of $1,340,005 per month.

The company is located in TX so if I go to salary.com and look at what a customer service rep makes, it's between 29-30k a year and that's the median. Since we are doing it yearly we have to take in account the yearly for the game in fees which is about $16,080,000

Dec. 2005 : 76.435 players
Mar. 2006 : 89.337 players

So we have 1000 new players on the servers in NA.

Last time I checked, the difference between 89,337 and 76,435 is more like 12,902. Presuming equal spread across 9 servers, thats 1433 new accounts on each server including Teon.

Again, presuming equal spread of accounts over the 9 servers (which we know is not accurate), that means an original count of 8492 account per server.

If these numbers are accurate, there has been a 16.87% increase in player base on each server, over a period of 3 months.
Someone said that 10k increase was from the Euro's but i didn't see any proof of that.

I said it, down load the Adobe profits report. There are pie graphs that show % of increase buy location. Korea grew, NA shrunk % wise and Europe grew a lot.

That was Rust and I believe he said there was a large increase (not all 10k, I'm sure) from Europe.
10k was a ball park. The Euro part of the pie grew by a large margin. I'ts clear they make up the largest increase. I'd say the US numbers grew but not as much, so we make up less of the pie.

So can we get a new server? haha

How many of these new numbers are new players or just new accounts is impossible to know. Peeps often get banned and start new accounts and what about the old accounts that are inactive are those still being counted? Cause obviously as time goes on more and mroe acounts will come out since old accounts never actually dissappear.

I'd still be curious how much they pay a month for bandwidth. Employees ain't cheap either...

Other MMORPGs have to pay their bandwith AND pay developers AND pay artists AND pay a much large QA team. (and some other MMORPGs actually use more bandwith than L2 does per user)

Yet they manage to stay afloat. So either NCSoft has the worst and most expensive ISP/Connection ever, they're horrible at managing their money or they're using the money elsewhere.
Inactive accounts don't count on the list.
I wish I would stop lagging its been 2 months lol ~~

gogo ncsoft
If you look at the stats, play nc china had max users of 37806 and daily access of 87154. play nc us had max users of 32767 and daily access of 59819. So the numbers are not really that different, but china has 23 servers and we have 9. Seems like we should have a new server.

An we're still wondering why they do not do so.. is it maybe because by putting more people in to hunt botters would mean that this figure (the sum they are making at the moment) will be reduced to half... if all the botters were gone?
If you look, L2 may have dropped off in Korea. But NCsofts total profits there drasticly increased. L2 Grew in the west and CoH/CoV and Guild wars drasticly grew in popularity.

So for L2 western players this is good news. Generally the games are devided up in teams. As we become a larger part of Lineage 2's profits we will get more love. As more Koreans play the other NCsoft games they will be the burden of the dovelopers of those games. Freeing up the L2 Devs to focus more on where there market is growing instead of shrinking.

Hopefully it will bring a lot of changes. First off should be a new server.

No argument there, nicely put...

P.S. A brand new European server for teh win! :D

There, fixed it for you :)
I would like to think that non farmers make up less then half of our servers.

Amborix: can you read the financials to tell me if there is an exact amount NCsoft brings in per year gross.

I would like to think that non farmers make up less then half of our servers.

What difference does it make if the account if a farmer account or a legitimate player? Financially, the same amount is paid for each. In terms of the connection load on the servers, again, it's the same. There is no differentiation between a farmer and a legitimate player when addressing the income of the accounts and the stability/dependancies of the servers in relationship to server load and bandwidth consumption.

If you are trying to suggest the removal of farmers would correct the lag issues, I think you should reconsider which of the two options you are presenting is more feasible.

I'm sure the means to permanate removal of farmers would be something NCSoft would be very interested in hearing from you, otherwise, reality indicates there will always be an average ratio of farmers to legitimate players. As one increases, so will the other reenforcing the necessity for larger availability of resources in platform development for the game. (IE: bandwidth, servers, etc.)

your right I was referring to a previous post about farmers/botters
#1 Reason for no new server: a new server means that existing servers get a smaller share of the new players.

There is already a shortage of active players, at least on my server. It is difficult to keep clans and alliances full of active players. There is a high "churn rate" even in the strongest clans/alliance, and they have to recruit constantly to fill vacancies.

The only way I can see a 2nd "euro" server being a good idea would be it resulted in the merger of two or more of the existing servers (Devianne + Gustin + Lionna + Erica would be an fun combo).

LOL you think merging with Devianne would be fun? Covenant would own every castle with in 2 weeks. They would pick up every free high level clan with in 1 week.

You mean a say a casual player that's on 10 hours a week, or even a hardcore one that's on 40 a week, uses the same bandwidth as a farmer that is in hunt mode 24/7? ^^ Maybe I'm missing something but it doesn't add up.
2005 Avg Net Sales per Quarter 17,151
1Q '06 Net Sales US 11,321

2005 US Profit Margin 0.3%
1Q '06 US Profit Margin -38%

... yes that's negative. Don't get too excited yet.
Is that all of NCSoft or just L2?

wasn't he talking about financially?
Bandwidth usage = financial. But obviosly the monthly fee more then pays for the bandwidth. Even for farmers. They just use more then there share.
They obviously don't care about bandwith, or they wouldn't be forcing us to have the client running in order to sell items.

LC that was mean... Now LC will realise something and make us accidentally disconnect while in overnight shop...
(and this is no 812 conspiracy)
I would change merger of mentioned servers for new EU server, located in EU. Even though I am playing on "affected" server. Our server is starving for new players, player base is dwindling, powerhouses are crying they have noone to fight and farmers clans and alliances do not add up anything nice to that picture.
Don't worry about zerg ally from one server, others have their zerg powers too :D

P.S. A brand new European server located in Europe to transfer my toons to for teh win! :D

There, fixed it for you :)

And I fixed it for both of you :p
Almost all of the new players on my server can be traced by county not just by continent. Their is a massive greek population now.

When somone talked about most people logging on and picking server one I call B.S. Most mmo'ers are geeks, their logging on and picking the server with the lowest ping and for the greeks (and many Euro's) it aint Teon its good ole Dev.
Heh there were only two servers when I created my toons if I remember well. And I took the second knowing many would pick the first :-p

We hadn't such pings by the time.

Hehe, I hope you get the merger so you can see the difference. There only 4 clans but they have been togetehr for 2 years. they suffered the least losses to other MMO's and they have controlled castles for all most 2 years. There equiped to the hilt and love PVP.

Trust me, they would dominte. Besides Dev has Heavy status during peak hours. It's over populated as it is. They don't need a merger they need a Euro server to lighten the load of Greek players.

A Euro server with out transfers.

They obviously don't care about bandwith, or they wouldn't be forcing us to have the client running in order to sell items.

I imagine that the bandwidth usage is worked into your monthly costs.

It also probably balances out for the players who pay to play but play so rarely.

But I can't imagine any business not working in these costs. Also, It is possible that they get some sort of discount because they have such high volume.
