Castle vendors... Cheap weapons !!!

General Discussion Started Last reply 24 posts
Greetings,

The biggest problem with people in this game is the outrageous prices of weapons.

In this effect, I think castle owners should be able to offer some kind of credit plan to enhance player experience.

[town] [weapon]

Example : Aden Kris (B grade dagger)

The dagger could have similar stats as the original, but here is how the system works. You can buy the weapons cheap from the castle lords who can produce them easily and place them in a castle town vendor.

The thing about these weapons is, you can only use them in the area of the castle (you suffer a penalty if you use them outside of their area). Furthermore, these kinds of weapons cannot be enchanted. And here is where it get interesting for the lords, the weapons get a tax from every kill.

Every time a castle lord weapon hits a mob, a percentage of the adena dropped (if any) is deposited directly into the account of the lord (say, same as current tax rate).

This way, the lord can provide cheap weapons for defense, and for the purpose of raising adena off the poor. I'm sorry, but that's how the world works...

I actually think it's a good idea. Though I already hear the refrain "it will never happen"

They had something similiat in SWG for weapon smiths except it was with experience. Say John Doe made a blaster and Jane Smith bought it. Evertime Jane made a kill with it John would get a miniscule amount of weaponsmithing experience.

I don't think so.

At about every grade switch I had the above grade weapon ready.

So I had a mithril dagger at 31, which I kept in my C grade period where I could equip an eminence bow at lvl 40 and 0.02%.
I then farmed and manored and could have a BoP when I was 50, which I kept in WH (so long BigMick).

When I was 61 and 11% I had enough cash to buy a +4 Carnage (61 mils o.O ty Overd0se I owe you one :-p ). Now I'm trying to sell my BoP (which is +6).

I followed the rule saying that when you hit a lvl skill you upgrade your passives first (on a DD it's your best bet in pve) and when you hit level grade you upgrade your weapon first. I then used a few levels to switch my armor and prepaer my weap for next grade.

All it took was spending 4 weeks crafting DSS when I was 30. Then I was ahead of schedule for weaps and able to roll.

I'd really prefer NC to fix the quests to get A grade armor recipes. 50mils for a majestic circlet recipe is a tad too much when you need 3 of them.
50 Mil? on dev that stuff is going for 50mil for Tallum Rec and around 90 mil for DC, NM, and Maj if not more. So you have it nice and easy.

OrcD3vil
If 50 mils is too much.. guess it is too much too on your server ;)
This could work, but the castle lord must find a level 9 crafter to make the weapon, and that crafter gets half of the tax. :)
I see some WS bias ;)

Well thought then ;)

Hmmm, this is all nice, but what about all the people who are trying to sell their weapons. If this was done, everyone would be using it and stay in the same place till they outlevel it, then move on to the next castle lord. All those poor dwarves that get their money from crafting and selling... What about them? They already have a tough time, this will only make it worse for them.
A cheap, unSAed/ Enchanted, PVE only weapon that's tied into a certain area is a pretty freaking sweet idea. It will help people out alot.... considering how insanely difficult it is to get started in this game.

would the castle lord personaly distribute the weapons (thus not giving them to people he/she didnt like) or would they be available from an NPC outside the castle (like the one that gives seige information). maybe the NPC would sell them to anyone that was not at war with the clan that owned the castle? would the supply be limited? i think a lot of permared characters might take advantage of a cheap item like this, but that doesnt mean its a bad idea ^^
i think it might work better if each castle had its own lord-defined types of weapons, one for each grade NG through B, so that people that are dumb and OE their only weapon can still use ss to lvl and make money to get a real weapon. so the castle lord after winning the seige would say hmmm, lets make this C grade one a polearm type, and that B grade one a bow...and at the end of the next seige all the castle weapons would dissapear and people would have to get new ones from the new castle lord.
i think its a great idea, just needs some detailing :)

Un-SA'd, Un-enchanted, and only for use in PVE (so attacking another character would be impossible with a Castle Lord Weapon). Also, characters with Karma could not buy the weapons. These weapons couldnt be sold or traded to other characters, and when you go back to the NPC, you can resell it at the same price you bought it at. The only "people" who would abuse this system are the "automated friends," but they abuse just about every other portion of the game. I like this idea alot DM. And I actually understood it.

...only for use in PVE (so attacking another character would be impossible with a Castle Lord Weapon)...

then you're saying a noob that has just gotten scammed out of their weapon should not be able to defend themselves against greifers/PKers. bad idea.

...Also, characters with Karma could not buy the weapons...

the more i think about this, the more i think "why not"? put all your items in the wh in floran. run like the wind and dodge guards on your way to the castle. purchase a weapon from the local lord and use it to work off your karma. a lot more effort so you dont have to die it off, or drop your SOM+5 because you are trying to work off the karma when the gank squad found you.

...These weapons couldnt be sold or traded to other characters...

/agreed, but that means they shouldnt be dropable either, /agree to that too.

..."people" who would abuse this system are the "automated friends,"...

unfortunately yes...since professional players dont use ss, a cheap weapon would be a sure boon for them...and i dont really see a way not to give them these weapons, without excludng someone that should have the ability to get them. suggestions?
I like this idea too.

But I would add a couple things.

1. You can only purchase castle created wep if you don't have a wep in your inventory.

2. Once you purchase it you can't put another wep in your inventory.

3. Castle created weapons could only be purchased one time per grade lvl.

4. Only low lvl weps of each grade could be created.

This way people could still go out and grind but it wouldn't stop players from purchasing mid or top weapons of same grade when they can afford them. Would also keep this system from interfearing to much with the economy.

**** ! Almost no more hate around here...

Ok, I'm liking a lot of the suggestions, so I'll throw in a few more ideas...

- The area lord weapons could be used to harm other players only during sieges (this makes it that the lord of the castle can make a "call to arms" to defend the castle)...

- If a castle changes hands, all area lord weapons of that area are automatically destroyed (because they are tax related).

- Bots won'T use these weapons, because they steal some of your adena EVERY time in favor of the lord of the castle. Pro farmers will never pay never-ending taxes for cheap weapons.

- The lord of the castle can create a temporary glow effect on ALL weapons of his area equipped, as a call to defend the castle.

Keep them coming folks, strangely enough, I could see this implemented pretty easily... *winks*

Oh I like the idea of a call to arms.

When ever it is turned on the weapon glows and can be used again other players. But I would limit it to only in siege area.

Also since it disappears if the castle changes hands it would make it benificial to help the castle lord to defend his castle.

The only problem with this is you would have to remove the option to sell it back at purchase price. Other wise alot of players would sell it back friday. Then go to another castle and purchase another wep on sunday after all sieges.

I would also limit the grade of weapon that can be crafted at each castle. Since they can only be used in the hunting areas owned by the creating castle.

Example: There would be absolutley no need for anything above C grade in Gludio area since the weps are primarily for helping with grinding/xping. Now I know that would not help much during a siege. But since the players around that area are low anyway atleast they could participate and learn a little bit about siegeing. Oh ya if you have one of these weps and participate in castle siege you loose no xp in siege area. Specially since they would get destroyed almost immediatley. Would help to get them to participate.

I would sell them at the manor managers. This way if you had a manager in Gludin (no castle) they could use the weapon in that area. But it would be limited to NG and D grade. So on so forth for each area.

Well some kind of exp loss may be good. Maybe 2% - 3% per death? I am level 45 and have never particepated in a seige, and if this idea became a reality, I would definatly risk loosing 2% - 3% per death in seige... I just think if there is no XP loss, there would be so many low levels there, that it may actually make a difference in the seige.. Could this be a problem? Don't know.. :o
Considering that there is a catacomb in the B/A Grade level range in Gludio territory, I wouldn't say there's no need for anything over C.

Ok since you haven't participated and don't know. There is only a 1% loss of xp per death during sieges. But being a lower lvl toon who would die alot and just annoy the higher lvl players during sieges. No xp loss would help to get people to participate.

As far as the catcombs/necropolis yes it is in the area but I didn't count it. There still has to be some sort of discouragement for using this system. If you are B or A grade go to Aden or Goddard and hunt outside that area.
