Swamp of Screams.... Why?

How is anything suppose to lvl there? It is the only place on the map where you wont find mages or archers lvl due to the mobs buffs. They are all either resist Matk, archery, sleep, hold. This is pretty much the only place for a melee to lvl without having spawns camped by archers or mages.

Now what sucks about it. When you are killing a mob, if you dont kill it fast enough, at random times it will run back to a circular area. In this area is more mobs that are social and aggresive. Of course if you go in there, it is a death wish. So, inseat of hunting the mobs that run in there, why not hunt in these circles? For various reasons. The water in there is a danger area, will continually lower your hp. It also puts poison on you every 10 seconds, so cant cure it. It also casts hex on you every 10 seconds.

As if all those debuffs werent good enough, if you hit a mob that is in this circular area, either it spawns there, or they run in there. When you hit them, something like 6 more mobs spawn ontop of you and just start beating on you.

Now you got the mob you were following, the mobs it runs into, the new mobs that arent even there, but spawn when you hit something in there, the multiple debuffs.

It is a solo/duo place, mobs are 1x hp. Pointless for a group.

Why the hell was it made like this? Nothing can lvl there for reasonable exp. You dont even see 1 bot train there cause they know it is pointless.

So the only place where a 70+ melee can lvl without having to worry about archers and mages showing up and killing the mob before you can even run up to it, is impossible to lvl.
It isn't called the "Swamp of SCREAMS" for nothing...you're supposed to be screaming, lol.
Consider the XP there where quite [censored] to, I dobht that place will be any popular ever, untill they at least redo the place completly, was there once, ended up PR and never ever puted my foot there again.
I remember actually going into one of the spawning pits on the PTS...baaaaaaaaaad idea, lol.
I view it as a Bot-Killing-Idea test area. It seems designed to provide quick death for any bots trying to operate there. As it is now, no players can hunt there either. I suspect we will see NCsoft slowly easing the pain off in there until players CAN level there, but bots still cannot. Then the set-up that works like that might be duplicated in other areas.

Just my humble opinion.
Even though it IS 1x...you have like 6 mobs on you at once. That's like 6x. You bring 5 friends with you, and with the party bonus it's about 1.5x for each party member.

Since when was that bad? (Besides...it's hella fun to be on the edge of your seat playing your character to it's limits...)

Uhm, just so you know, bots can currently fight and "level" in the swamp of screams. Just noone bothers with it, its bad xp, risky, especially risky with griefing.
Its just unplayable, and our "automated friends" prefer to level in places that:

A. Offer better drops
B. Have bad xp
C. Are generally secluded.
D. Are difficult to solo/duo at. A group with at least 2 high level healers can handle the swamp of screams.

All of which the Swamp of Screams provide.
I find myself exping in places just for the fun or change of scenery. I love a challenge and I always try to give every place a fair chance.

There are some interesting quests in the swamp of screams, and I like the added challenge of running mobs. And the chance of them getting buddies.

But I have tried to level in the swamp quite a few times. Once I even brought along a swordsinger, a bladedancer, and prophet to help me (SK) and we couldnt handle the place. Our HP was getting chewed to bits, most of the mobs managed to get away before we could kill them, which is shocking because we were killing very fast. And even though we could barely handle the mobs, we were only getting like 2 and 3k exp.

we tried our best but ended up leaving. I reallllllly want to like the new areas, I really want to have a new interesing place to level. But swamp of screams is impractical for even thrill seekers.
There are nice spoils there. Apart from that, the place sucks. You cannot really solo/duo there, and for even small groups the exp is very bad. Really, the only reason to go there is for the spoils.
>>Swamp of Screams.... Why?

for the stupid noblesse quest. and that's pretty much all. At least they changed so not only drones drop grant the quest item (bad memories from PTS - 6 buff rounds w/ 3nukers,SE and WC there... hard, hard to kill and no single quest item)
Elaborate on those spoils plz, I am BH and interested ^^
What spoils and in what rate?

Maybe this place is designed for small dwarven poleparties?
I wouldn't pole mobs that run away
Maybe if you got an OL to mass root though?

Mobs that run away ftl, I hate them with all of my heart.
I did this area on the PTS with my EE, my SE and Darkmotion. We did quite well actually.

I would root with the SE (using BSPS), heal with both characters if needed and use the EE's party return if things got too ugly.
>>Maybe if you got an OL to mass root though?
You havent been there enough, many are resistent to sleep/root.
They run away , but come back with reinforcements
Thats why the poles are for ^^
What do you mean I haven't been there enough? I've been there once, and that was plenty.

unless you have been...[cut]

many mobs have painful nukes, bringing half train of nukers aint fun, and i mean aint fun at all.
===
once again about "being there": everyone will be there 'enough' for the noblesse quest, so... enjoyable.
Other thing the mobs there have is like SS, and yeah some of hte mobs use SS and DB, and hit you for up to 1k in damage, I meen Seriously this mob also give you like 5k xp soloing it, and who want to hunt something who are capable to kill you befor you can kill it? And give less XP then solo mobs in Aden area who have no dangerous skills at all?

If a mob use SS I wuldnt even tutch it befor it gave the doubel teh XP, as it's basicly doubel as hard.
i was solo there with my necro and cdl for that [923] (sorry i had to put that in rofl :p) quest with the mercs and like i 2 shot stuff there but its still dumb with the soulshots >.<
Great thread...much better a thread like this than a thread about how routine/boring/similar all hunt spots are. Good Job NCSoft!

The lower lvl ones (splinter) spoil BoP Shafts, EAA, SoP/Mold Hardener, rec: Carnage Bow, rec: Phoenix Ring, rec: BoMT and drop, among other stuff, rec: SoM, rec: Elysian, rec: Maj Earring

The higher lvl ones (needle) spoil rec: Soulbow, rec: BoMT,rec: Maj Earring, rec: Maj Ring, EWA, rec: Soul Separator

Cannot say too much about rates. Not many go there, apparently - l 2 w h does not have too many drops registered there. But we got a few of the recipes when we went there.

all i have to say is NC good job you finaly put some thing difrent i nthre game and i commend you for it some thing that requires thinking im hopeing that this trend continues

by the way at 74 you can make 1.2% there in 20 min as a mele solo i woudent call that bad at all

by the way at 74 you can make 1.2% there in 20 min as a mele solo i woudent call that bad at all

Unless you have some sort of rooting skill or mad buffs/Pole, how exactly would you accomplish that?
Sounds like Girly and Mielle have a duo spot if ever I stop sucking and level a bit. :)

quite easeyley
Well, then tell the secret. Because unless they changed something recently, hate doesn't always work with them and they can break it.
nothings been changed and i like haveing a whole area to my self you put in the time you can figgure it out if you dont want to put in the time and effort tho dont complane about the area
Ok, well, I am too busy soloing Antharas to go there.

it's not really soloing when u have a boxed pp... ^^
It's always a fun place for some complete madness. Never had Hate fail on me unless A: I was stunned or B: The mob had moved around an object.

glad someone pointed this out...hate does wonders to keep the chaos down. tank+pole+hate aura seems like it would work okay...also note that for C5 they are adding a new higher-level mob to this area. really havent partied here for xp, just passed through on a "lets walk around the new area" adventure with a few buddies. also, theres nothing wrong with standing on the edge of the bad_juice_pools. respawn is insane, and it was fun tho we got out just after hp went to death-defying levels. fun area, thanks NC :)
Can hate prevent the mobs from running away and getting reinforcements?
Yes, but it must be hate from a proper tank with a high level hate. However if the mob hits the center of a pool and you hate it, you will get even more mobs come after you than if they ran for enforcements.
yeah hate stops them from running away.

I went back to give the swamp yet another chance

I imagine if I had a str build. or outside buffs. I could do a bit better. But the mobs in the swamp simply have a higher damage output than I feel willing to put up with. And the fact that I have to hate them to keep them from running, means I will expend more mp than normal. And the fact that they are magic resistant means my drains are less effective.

mobs do more damage-I do less damage, and get less hp back-I have to use hate to keep the mob on me, which is a waste of mp

all this extra difficulty for maybe 1k or 2k (at most) more exp than I normaly get off white, easy, non stop solo mobs.

I like areas where you have to be on your toes, and learn how to deal with mobs and the area. VoS is pretty good exp for a bit of extra challenge.

I just think swamp of screams is pretty hard, and the mobs dish out like double the damage I get from other white mobs. And as with many things in L2 the rewards don't reflect the effort. You work twice as hard, and risk downtime or death, all for a little extra exp.

Yes, but it must be hate from a proper tank with a high level hate. However if the mob hits the center of a pool and you hate it, you will get even more mobs come after you than if they ran for enforcements.

That must have changed after the PTS then, back then they could actually break hate and run for reinforcement sometimes, even hate from a level 7x+ SK.
The trick is don't go into the fight with hate. If you hate from the beginning they will still run away if they aren't killed quick enough and you would have to hate again. Run up and smack them and only hate if they start to run. Saves on wasting mana.

maybe give it another go when the mobs are green to you. green mobs with an insane spawn rate = insane xp.
yeah I was thinking the same thing, I was just comparing them to other white mobs. Im sure for greens the exp will be nice. But I still think I could have an easier time soloing white mobs elsewhere than green mobs in the swamp.

But I will give it a try when I get to that point ; )
