I am thinking of geting me a wolf and try to lvl it up .
A lot of people say its not worth it at all and that a Wolf wont be able to help me anyway and only will keep me from geting xp as fast as i could. I Would like some input on wolfs from you all. I am going to get me the wolf anyways for the fun of having him with me while i do stuff but i was wondering what everybody else thinks of them . Thanks for your input !!!
Oh yea ! can one char have two or more wolfs at the same time fighting for him or can u only have one wolf at the time ?
If you do get a wolf, dont buy one. The wolf prices have gone up so much. I remember when they were 20 or 30k each. On bartz they go anwyhere from 200k to 500k now. Just do the quest. All you gotta do is run around or teleport for a few minutes and take a test. You can find the answers all over the internet. Look up google "Lineage 2 Wolf Quest" or something.
As far as the wolf being helpful it depens how much you invest in it. If you go for basic weapon and armor it will be like a secondary damage dealer, but wont do too much damage. If you can afford to get top weapon and armor, things are a lot different. My wolf is lvl 44 now (havent used it since I rerolled), but buffed he does over 300 damage without beast shots. Add in beast shots, he kills people in D grade all the time in arena :D. His defense is really week, but thats with all damage dealers.
A wolf is the best companion to a tank or a melee character. Dont get it if your a nuker or archer. If you are one, get a star hatchling. But if you are a melee, wolf is your best friend. You can solo a lot better with them, and they dont really eat a lot of your exp.
One tip though. Until your wolf gets to a higher lvl, buy some blessed pet rezurects from the dawn or dusk priest. And expect it to die a lot. It will happen. Also if you can afford this and you are not a buffer, buy haste pots and beast shots. Keep in mind though that the wolf will lvl a lot faster than you, so you might wanna hold off on haste and beast shots for a while to keep up the same lvl as the wolf.
Have fun with it, you will rarely need a party if you duo with a wolf :).
Wolf if you melee a lot. The reason I said no wolf is because if you dont melee and take the aggro from mobs, the wolf will die a lot more than normal.
I have an orc mystic too, but I always melee when I have wolf out.
Example: Use frost flame, or posion, then charge in to kill the mob, and have the wolf charge in with me.
Bad Example: Use frost flame, drain, or something else, then I wait there, or run till the mobs hp goes down and send the wolf in to kill. When the wolf attacks, if the mob hasnt fully aggroed you, it will attack the wolf. It wont come after you.
So if you melee more than you use spells, then wolf all the way :D. And besides overlords need wolves too.
Kiryana is forced to deal with real life issues, and as such has been missing-in-action for some time.
We wish her the best, and a speedy return.
To the OP, welcome to the world of Lineage 2 pets. I've been working on raising up a few myself, both wolves and hatchlings, and what I can say is that most of the advice you've read here is accurate.
They don't get buffs now? Servitors do, afaik, at least BD/SwS buffs go to the servitor too.
As far as the wolf goes, if you hunt with it, don't hunt mobs that use spells or mobs with damage-dealing specials. The usual pattern with those is, even if you hate the mob, it'll come after you, turn around, smack/nuke the wolf once and come after you again. Most of the time this equals dead wolf. Same goes for hatchlings, actually, even though they're a bit more robust. All pets lack sorely in the m.def department, though.
I am a orc mystic on my way to overlord...
So no Wolf ?
Wolf is good for Overlord.
I'm a L56 OL with a L52 Wolf. Currently the Wolf has more Patk than I do after buffs. That is with the top wolf weapon and with me using a Hellknife. (I also have a Mace of the Underworld w/Mana Up I still keep around. It used to be a Sword of Whispering Death until I swapped it at the Blacksmith to get the SA for Sieges.) I'm fully buffed and have given my old shaman buffs to the wolf also. (OL buffs still do not work on pets, but any party buffs will.)
Despite his high patk, his pdef is still very low. I'm using the second best pet armor and he's got enough hp and pdef for me to get aggro back and that's about it. Definately invest in some Blessed pet rez scrolls for those times when things go south.
I usually wear robes, (Demon) buff us both with the minimum needed buffs, then switch to heavy. (Avadon) I'll cast a drain (Intentionally trained 1 level below max available to reduce MP usage.) to get HP and aggro then once the mobs reach me (Moving pets attract aggro like you would not believe!) I'll melee the mob to death with the wolfs help. When buffs fade I swap to robes, regen to full, rebuff and repeat. As long as I get the drain off the mobs will almost never switch aggro to the wolf. (Happened ONCE!) On the other hand you WILL get a respawning mob right on top of you at least once or twice a night. In this case your absolute best choice for aggro control is SLEEP! Not only does it prevent a mob from attacking/killing the wolf and give you time to kill any other mobs your fighting, it also generates a huge amount of aggro preventing the mob from re-aggroing the wolf. (just make sure the wolf isn't the one to wake the mob up or be hitting on it when you sleep it.)
Note: While leveling with the wolf I don't use shots (Beyond some BSPS when sleeping aggro) nor do I use shots on the wolf. I level slow as a result, but I do make a decent amount of money this way. If I ever get some extra cash and have my A grade, I'll see how fast I can go with shots & Beast shots. =P
The wolf now needs a pretty good amount of food when he is hungry. (Each food fills less % of the hunger bar as he levels.) But it's still significantly cheaper then C/B SS. (Off the top of my head, I'd say 250 food lasts me about 3 hours. 130a*250=32,500a and mobs drop about 700-1200.) I just outleveled my hunting grounds and am trying to find another good spot with low aggro/social and dense mobs for fast killing speed again...
As for the quest, you get it from the Pet Manager in Gludin Village. He will send you back to your starter town to kill L15 mobs (50 of em) then you will have to run to Dion and Giran to talk to some NPC's and run back. He will then give you a 'quiz' based on what the NPC's said. Get all the questions right (And some are poorly worded.) and you get a wolf.
I guess I had my own fair share of leveling a wolf.
M4rius is right when he said that you don't need it if you're using an archer or a mage. These classes will kill it's prey even before your wolf can land a hit.
I made a human knight character (he's 29) and I pretty much leveled him with my wolf (level 26). I would say invest on a top grade wolf armor. I wasn't using SS when hunting and but I did buy some beast SS for my wolf. Top grade DG weapons use up 3 SS per blow. Price of each SS in Sieghardt is 11a/12a. Beast SS is 26a. The wolf just uses 1 of these per shot. Add to that the amount of wolf food which is 126 (I think, I can't remember anymore).
Anyways, i had self buffs on my human knight plus alacrity pot. I was wielding an elven sword so I had about 80-90 something on my crit stat. The wolf was pretty close. It has 80 flat (if I remember right). That wolf is a DD when it crits. I was lvling my human knight from 22 and my wolf was 15 then and just make sure you always get the aggro because your wolf would drop in 2 hits. Make sure you have that "Stop" button in your hotbar.
When hunting with it, don't use SS yourself unless you run into "oh crap" moments. For the wolf, use beast SS every so often.
I was hunting in the Abandoned Camp. Many times, it was able to drop a mahum that runs away from me.
I didn't really run the numbers but I definitely made some profit hunting. I was not using DG SS but my wolf used one every so often. I made it a rule that I'll use Best SS if the previous kill I did dropped some adena. You'll make some money this way (don't forget to do the AC quest). Exp is slow but the wolf does augment the kill time. True it will take some exp, but it realy hits hard most of the time because of its crit and you'll be killing more things in no time.
I dunno at high levels, but it really wasn't consuming alot of food. Only probly about 1 per 4 or even 5 minutes. I didn't really pay attention. But believe me it doesn't eat that much.
Don't even get me started when I had buffs. My wolf was even getting the aggro from me. That thing can "hit".
So to answer your question, "is it worth it?"
My answer will be, yes if and only if you plan on not using SS (DG) and you're willing to exp slow. You may even opt not to buy beast SS. That thing hits hard on crits (given the proper gear of course).
I think it's also a good lvling tool if you're a buffer class in light armor and you intend to melee mobs. Buff it up and it's a formidable partner >> downside, it's a paper tank.
One note: Make sure you're higher in level than your pet. Otherwise, you'll see your pet getting aggroed alot.
I did read about Kiryana in the spotlight section , preety impresive, to bad she cant participate here right now.
I will get that Wolf and have some fun with , from what i hear from you all its fun and helpfull. As for the time spent on lvling the wolf and my char ... Lineage time is fun time :p
Thanks for all the info hope i get more of that as i will progress
I finaly got the wolf but it seems to lvl so very very slow...
Am i doing something wrong ?
Curently i am hunting all sorts of spiders at the imortal plato near the orc vilage, i life drain atack and then have the wolf atack imidiatly right afte i hit ... The dam Bears near by killd the wolf 3 times allready. I am a lvl 18 orc mystic. Any grinding tips ???
Hmm i would say the most urgend thing for fast wolf lvling is to have a expensive weapon for him. I did start my first one with medium weapon first then upgraded it from time to time at pet manger and i did use no armour then.
If you wanna it lvl fast go to the lowest catacomb/ necropolis south of gludin. A lvl 20 Char with near top D equip can kill there fast and same goes for the wolf.
The wolf gets exp from damage he does so a better weapon means more exp. The 4x mobs give also a good amount.
I can lvl a wolf there from 15-20 unbuffed in 1 hour maybe less without using shots.
when the wolf reaches lvl 27 i would switch to 1x mobs u kill faster and that means your wolf isnt in attak mode all time that means u use less food like you would on 2x-4x mobs.
I would say wolf is nice for tanks / heavy armour users just for ppl that dont do a lot damage while normal hunting. It can save ya SS and can add some extra gold but that it.
Wolfs weak pdef/mdef is his bigges drawback but if you stay on same lvl mobs and avoid archers and mage mobs he can really help ya. When fully buffed he becomes a killing machine due his high crit rate. My lvl 52 Wolf has 306 patk if i remember right without buffs but with top Wolf weapon ( that is 1,5 mil ). He can take like 7 hits now but arrows and spells still a pain to him he can survive 2-3 hits thats all.
BTW you dont need to use pet ss it just fasten things a little up but cost you more.

Aggro (Like those bears) is always going to be a problem. Not much you can do about it except hope NCKr eventually changes aggro rules again or wolfs get a hp/pdef/evasion boost. That or just look for a more 'pet friendly' place to level with few aggro or social mobs.
As for the slow leveling, it's largely due to 2 factors. First, XP for the wolf is based on damage, as it levels it gains much more patk than anything else. Just right now (Its a newbie yet!) it's damage ability isn't that great. If your using less that the top Wolf weapon its damage ability will be pretty low also. (Lower level wolf weapons are pretty weak.) And second, your fighting mobs that are near yours and the wolfs level. I'm not certain on what the XP thresholds are, but your wolf never seems to be able to outlevel your own XP unless you powerlevel it. If your wolf is lower level than you and the mobs you fight it will level faster than you. The closer you get in levels the slower it's xp rises in comparison to you.
I think i am geting the hang of it now, i am only going mele on the mobs and after my first hit i have the wolf atack. I dont use any ss i get lil xp couse i am doing this on greens but i actualy saved a tiny lil bit adena this way. The good thing is i can kill the mobs fast if they start atacking the wolf. Well i gues i will have to make 2 grinds one exclusiv for my char and the other one for xping the wolf and making some adena. I am still hoping i get more tips and tricks from you all ;)
