Powerlevelers....the new bane of my existance

General Discussion Started Last reply 21 posts
I've tried to be nice, I've tried to be fair, and God knows I've tried to be patient, but the 923'ing powerlevelers have got to go!!!

Or....

At least develop a conscience about exactly how they powerlevel their toons.

I can't find a decent spot to level before some jerk on a strider comes running by aggro'ing all the mobs in my area and running them down a hill to be big boomed by some coward dwarf hiding in a remote location. It's getting old, and it's getting old fast...

Now I'm the last guy to begrudge a fellow player a some space so they can shave a little edge off of the grind, but these guys have no respect or honor about the situation. As much as I hate it...I've had to drop down to their level at times to get them to get the point. I've been forced to kill the guys they were powerleveling, I've had to divert large numbers of their trains....I've even had to confiscate large quantities of adena and items from around their detonation area in order to get some respect about my hunting rights. Funny thing is, when I do these things, they PM me calling me a kill-stealer and a thief. I've even been called a griefer by these guys. Imagine that!! I've been killed so many times by vengeful P'leveler's clans, that I've lost count. But it's the principle of the thing I'm all about so a few deaths isn't all that bad. Still though, it's getting tiring...and I'm having to stop my leveling to deal with these 923's. I just wish people that P'level would do it at off-peak times of the day or at least learn to respect a few boundaries....

Am I expecting too much??

Da Smookster...

Am I expecting too much??

Yes, you are. People are lazy.
Actually one shouldn't expect anything in L2. Especially nothing good from fellow players.

Expect the worst. Hope for the best.

Power = Right in L2. Unfortunately the more you're a [923] the more powerful you get. And that basic problem doesn't only appear in p'leveling with big booms.

I consider myself a "good" player but I'd be seriously tempted to let someone give me some PL lovin'.
How does anyone afford this is what i want to know???
I have a family I dont get it.

hmmm so you are saying that;

If A=The amount of assiness (That's a word), and P=Power, then A increases P?

I don't buy that cause my A is maxed out and my P isn't. :(

It is actually the other way around... P increases A... A does not increase P.
It's not only what you do but also how you do it. :p

If you pick a bunch of flowers for your girl thats cute and will be rewarded probably, but if you take if from your neighboars yard he might be after you with a pitchfork momentarily. ^^

You're talking about paying RL money for PLing. I'm not (that's a whole different topic).

Mmmm I wouldnt dare to make an actual formula describing the realtion between A and P... we don't even know which is the dependant variable... it would be most likely not linear tho...

Anyway, feelings can't be measured with maths... let's just say most people dislike those with high A as well as high P. :p Which are often concentrated in the same personas, wether thats a coincidene or not. ;)

perhaps the problem is people are jealous of those with P, so they acuse them of ebay/bot/ets. These acusations cause those with P to increase their A due to the fact those w/o P have a lot of A directed at those with P.

So the formula would look like this:

P1=Power
P0=Without Power
A = Assiness

P0=5A
P1=1A

P0+P1=P1+4A

I don't know... I give up.

The point is... Nobody likes anybody in this game unless you play a elven female (no need for comments elfhateing kitten) pretend to be a girl and flirt with everybody while u give out free rezes and kiss of eva. Everybody has a high A cause everyboady wants a high P.
Should I demand nukers don't kill things I'm running at before I can get there then? Oh, and archers?

I once literally spent 20 minutes (well, more, I did rebuff the unicorn) to kill seven 1x HP white mobs - not because they took so long to kill (magical two-shot), but because my pony couldn't make it into range.

Lesson? I don't think you have anything to complain about here.
Honestly Maline...it's not the action itself, it's the magnitude of the action.

If I'm getting beat to the punch by nukers and archers, fine..I can deal with that. Much like me, they can only kill so much. But a powerleveler on a strider is gathering up all the MOB's in an area, then killing them very quickly. When they respawn, they're already gathering them up again. I have been in areas that I'm stuck standing up waiting for mobs to respawn. By the time they do, I may get to two of them before the rest are rounded up again. I don't mind p'levelers gathering up most of the MOB's as I'm currently playing a melee fighter with limited range. But to come into an area I'm diligently working is just plain disrepectful.

I carefully plan my hunting areas for maximum yield of XP for solo efforts. I balance the average use of SS's, damage being received, and kill speeds to make sure I'm getting the most outta my hunting experience since I am a casual player. I've gotten it almost down to a science ( I can get almost any class from 1-52 in a week and a half without any powerleveling at all). Unfortunately, powerlevelers seem to want to encroach on what I call a "Symphony of Harmonic Leveling Perfection" and when they do...I feel that they gotta pay!!!

I'm not a greedy player...I just want my little corner of the L2 universe respected...is that so wrong????

Though I agree with Da Smookster on the point of principle, isn't the whole point of the game to create conflict?

Everyone knows where the good drops are. Everyone knows where the good exp is at. Problem is that these areas have limits. When those limits are exceeded the conflict begins. It's in the nature of the game.

The problem isn't with the conflict, it's with the artificial nature of the conflict. If warring clans were fighting over ideal hunting spots and server supremacy, that's part of the game. As it is, I see mostly farmer and PLing groups monopolizing the good hunting spots. Mostly those that don't stun or have AOE spells so they can use unmentionable programs unattended or with just one person.

It's hard any more to find a hunting spot that isn't populated by bot groups. That is my only complaint. Regular server politics and such I can deal with. Peace.

share please D:

And if it involves just two boxing a different buffer, I am working on that :/

Too many classes look interesting to me, not enough time :D
Without any powerlevelling? No outside buffs, no gear or shots you didn't earn yourself? Without someone who doesn't need you partying, without getting to join the nuker group at raids although you're not a nuker? I'd like to see you do that with an EE or bishop.

And I still don't see the big difference - someone who can kill faster than you and could be someone more challenging is taking your mobs. It's no more rude than a pole rude clearing out several necro rooms while others are trying to level there or, as described above, ranged classes yoinking mobs out from under melees already almost on top of them.
Not everyone is polite.

You get fed up and take action. Good for you.

You sometimes pay for that action. Them's the breaks.

L2in' ain't easy.

I have been known to gather up mobs to help players doing class change quests and the like, but I always do so in a courteous manner. If another player or party is working in the field we need, I strike up a conversation, explain my intent and do my best to be as quick and unobtrusive as possible.

But do I expect that of others (outside of our clan)?

Nope.
The way I see it, you do what you have to do.

First thing I do is ask nicely to stop pulling mobs from my area/room etc.

If that doesn't work and the person is a much higher level than you, then do what you have to and annoy them until they get the point. Steal the train and take it somewhere else, collect the drops, stun the guy being powerleveled (my favorite), and so on.

And if the high lvl guy kills you and goes red, there are plenty of other high lvls who would be happy to kill him.

But one thing you can't do is let it go on. If it happens more than once and you let it go each time, theyll just think you dont mind, or not care if you do mind or not.

. . . since I am a casual player. I've gotten it almost down to a science ( I can get almost any class from 1-52 in a week and a half without any powerleveling at all). . . what I call a "Symphony of Harmonic Leveling Perfection"

Lvl1-lvl52 in 1 1/2 weeks of 'casual' play?? Holy gamolies, that is quite a loud Symphony!

Folks taking over a spot you are hunting is rude. Often, a simple PM will get them to move, if they did not notice you there when they started. I have this problem when I'm soloing since I rest in the weeds to avoid being seen as I regen HP/MP. Most, not all, will shift over a bit.
I agree, I wanna know how to do 1-52 in one or two weeks of casual play.

Share secrets? :D

I consider myself a "good" player but I'd be seriously tempted to let someone give me some PL lovin'.

Same. Had I the oppertunity to go sleep or watch a movie and get half a level, I'd probably take it. Assuming it cost me nothing in in-game or RL currency.

Now don't give me the "leveling is suppoused to be hard and earned" [censored]. First of all i agree, but L2 takes it a bit too far, and the fact that powerleveling is becoming much more frequent.

The other day I took a bit to go back to good ol' Cruma floor 2, in a small group. We found what seems to be the most common set up. A high level summoner, far away from his summon, haveing his lv 70 pet kill the mobs, and since he is too far away from the pet, all XP is transfered to the lv 30 (or whatever). I heard some clan on Bartz charges like 35mil to powerlevel people to 61 in a day in ToI this way.

It's not only what you do but also how you do it. :p

If you pick a bunch of flowers for your girl thats cute and will be rewarded probably, but if you take if from your neighboars yard he might be after you with a pitchfork momentarily. ^^
