I honestly don't know whether to say that it's a sad day for the industry when this starts happening or to say haha you get what you deserve for treating subscribers of your games the way you do.
As for the threat of skipping E3 the next year I don't see how this would hurt them or any other big company that chose not to attend. Lets face it, we get news articles on websites and magazines all through the year on upcoming games and there are demos and video clips constantly being put up online for people to check out. It's a rare occaision that anything is shown on the show floor that people don't already know about.
Seriously, they were fined 5.000 $... Which would be a lot for private person, bor for a company ?
That is no more than pocket exchange in MMOG business. I doubt than anthing below 100k $ even is shown in their business calculation plans.
It is amusing though, that lame *** game producers need to resort on cheap tricks to get at their opponents, rather than simply producing a better game and a better show around it.
Schmidt then said he requested E3 show management's presence at the booth, held up a credit card and said if they wanted his money, they'd have to come and get it from him. When nobody came on stage to take his card, Schmidt said the ESA didn't want to discuss it in public "because it's much better to have it in private of course--beat 'em up behind the scenes. But I'm sure I'll get the bill somewhere."
apparently not many of you guys follow E3 at all. The past few years E3 has gotten worse and worse. The people, the noise, the space. E3 is meant as a business event, not a public spectacle which it has become over the past 5 years. If nobody calls anybody on restrictions that are put into place FOR A REASON then it will just get worse and worse every year. In fact I heard that they had to actually designate a day solely for press because its such a circus nowadays.
**** kids and their **** music with their Britney Spears and their Vidya games and their i-pod culture stealing music and gathering in parking lots to talk about lord-knows-what, all wearing jeans that are too low cut and shaking their booty all the while drinking their Jolt Cola, stayin' up late texting lord-knows-who so that they can talk about their Sketchers and that Sally Phillips is a great big [censored] because she was hanging out with the football team even though they are Seniors and she is just a freshman and did you catch that last episode of Idol where Chris was voted off and that was such a rip because he was the best one and what do they know anyways!
GET OUT OF MY BEAN GARDEN ya young whippasnappers!!!!
Though actually, Taraza does have a point... isn't it supposed to be about the games? :p
exactly, I think people fail to understand the POINT of E3, which is to present games. These companies have to PAY for their space and if its too loud they cannot present their stuff so its up to ESA to uphold their own rules because they exist for a reason. E3 is about presenting games, not having concerts anyway. NC Soft should have been fined A LOT more, in fact their fine should be to fund Sega's space at E3 floor :p
Yeah NCSoft's booth was loud. Yeah it was basically impossible to talk to anyone in or around NCSoft's booth while the band was on. But they still had one of the best booths imo for two reasons:
1) They had enough stations for people to get onto whatever they game they wanted with maybe a 5 minute wait.
2) They had a lot of staff that was knowledgeable and helpful on hand to talk about the games and show people what was up and all that good stuff.

E3 is about marketting, publishing and business networking between the companies. It IS meant to be a spectactle and to showcase games. GDC and other conventions like that are the business events that are related to development. E3 is meant for companies to show off their stuff to the media. To blame companies for doing exactly that and doing whatever they can to get as much press and media as much as they can is just naive.
Fortunately, it was NOT open to the public this year like it was last year and they did have early access for media for two hours the first day (only if you were pre-registered and all that jazz though), which was a great decision.
As for the threat to boycott E3 next year, that's just ******ed and if NCSoft actually decides to do that because of this, which I suppose they could, its their decision but I think it'd be a bad one unless they got other companies to break from ESA and put on their own convention. As much as I love NCSoft and give them their credit when its due, I think that would be a ******ed decision. But that's why I play games and they make games I s'pose.
So is asking for ESA to come up on stage and get his credit card. Its grandstanding, nothing more nothing less. You do things like that for one reason and one reason only when you know they won't do that: to generate press and media exposure. Apparently, it worked ^_^
I can not believe for one second that any of you would stick up for e3.
I am not dogging on anyone or anything but isnt e3 not just about the game but ultimatley advertising the games? which would mean grabbing peoples attention?
I am sorry but if im selling my product i am not sitting back in the cornor hiding and waiting til everyone else is done.
Mayhap ncsoft went over the level of noise that is allowed but then again like the gentelmen said, 3 people there tested for noise is childish.
From the way he spoke, i seen him step up and be a man, he was about to pk it sounded to me lol!!!!.
Think about this, if this man represents the company in whole (which he must to do what he did) then would you want the same guy speaking for you as a customer?
Rofl...[sega] *wah* people cant pay attention to our games that wont sell, because ncsoft's booth is too loud! you sir! come look at out crappy new sonic game....no wait, come back! dont go over there! That does it, I'm reporting them for being 5 or 6 decibels over the limit, heh, thatll teach em. XD
'Schmidt said the ESA didn't want to discuss it in public "because it's much better to have it in private of course--beat 'em up behind the scenes'
I'm I the only one to find that Ironic coming from someone at NCSoft in association with how they treat 'problems' with bans and other stuff we all complain about?

A little off topic but how is that game Tabula Rasa? I saw it listed. Is it plagued with all the same problems as L2? Has anyone tried it? Whats it like?
