I have to say i'm slighly worried, two years i've been around here reading the good and the bad of the boards. Others are enjoying all the seiges/clans/high level areas and here i am doing the slow grind at 28.
What even worries me more is all the talk about how the games getting out of the normal players hands. What will be left for me?
I have wondered at times if the good old times are behind me now and i have nothing to look forwards to, did i miss the boat so to speak? I have a long way to go before if ever i become clan worthy.
Oh, I don't know Splatter. I always sort of thought of you as that lone philosopher in Elmore, doing his own thing on his own schedule. I always had a lot of respect for you for that.
I think you do have to consider what you want from the game though. If you are not getting it then you need to decide the best course to get it. If what you need to do is not possible, then you need to rethink your choice of entertainment or rethink your expectations.
I too worry alot of late about the future of L2 altho my time in L2 started at first release.
But I can tell you that it holds maybe a good clan or bad craft that took you ages to gather putting you back at square one.
You may at 1 point in time do a epic boss raid or like me you may not. I myself have settled for not meeting any of the big ones simple because as a casual players I will most likely miss that boot.
IMO the game is allready lost to the real player but that's me. I really hope to see that turn around.
Seiges can be fun for those that are build for it but like you allready wrote it may take more then a while for you to get there. I myself have been to seiges and well... I exspected more. Seen Baium once. He looks oke I guess but I just was there to look at him before I was eating stone and that was the first and only time.
there is a lot but like any MMORPG those who dont progress with the game are left behind.
No offesense splatter but even the casual gamers that been here since prelude are 60+ (i know i am one and im 70+ and most of clan is casual prelude/c1 people that ive known since then are almost all 60+)
There is a lot more to experience at least 60+ that you will never if you never level and trust me even for someone that has no buffs and subpar gear 40+ shouldnt take more then 2 months.
You're far beyond casual - but there's no limited supply of turkey, so don't worry. If you wanted to make it to dinner with the others, you never will - but if you just want to keep enjoying the game for your own reasons, what's to stop you?
Most people on my server think I'm a forum troll and will never get anywhere in game - but I'm already right where I want to be, so for all purposes, I'm either having the best parts or think they're a different part than the others do. ;) And that's the best, isn't it? Loving all the stuff the others don't eat: More for me.
Sad isn't the forum troll, but the person who feels that they are wasting their time if they're not "getting somewhere" in game - all this is primarily for entertainment, attaching a bigger tag to in game things and forum stuffs is stupid.
Of course, friendships built and offenses made are excluded. :p
What even worries me more is all the talk about how the games getting out of the normal players hands. What will be left for me?

Oh you poor confused thing. Be content in the knowledge that you are not a normal player. Therefore the bot problem does not effect you.
No, you are something much more special. You are the prefered customer of nc soft. You are the person who pays not to play, and nc loves you for it. Every chronical has a section deticated to people like yourself. Just you wait! In c5, you won't ever have to leave elmore ever again!
If you're not playing this game like it's a job, and just enjoying your walks around Elmore.. then I'd say YOU are the normal player! You're not missing out on anything you wouldn't get bored of. I think a lot of the players in this game are only "Hardcore" out of competition with each other, and not out of their love of the game. Who needs that rat race, when you can enjoy a walk? =)
Splatter, your not the only one :D! I have been here off and on since North American Closed Beta, my character right now is level 36! I don't even know how I did that. I have had 4 characters get to level 20 but only two that have gone above, one that WAS lvl 21 before it went permared and now is like lvl 5 or something and the one I have now. I am in no rush to level.
I am just hoping I get to 40 in atleast two months time....
What server do you play on? I am on Erica and can find a really nice guild very easily! Currently in one but I am kind of low for it but ohwell :D! Dying every now and then doesn't matter much I guess... :p
If you want Splatter, I would be willing to join your server if you would like to group with me (although may take half a month to a month to get to 20... my worst ever was level 20 in 3 months right after retail :)).

you wanna solo and grind your way to high level go ahead.
you wanna ZOOM there in leaps and bounds with far more SP than youll ever use, and adena coming out the wazoo, begin your raid farming NOW.
you should have done it at 24. just get your big green toucas to dion and shout for a raid.
when youre raiding, you meet a lot of good players who have big bad mains that might let you clan up.
you also learn how other classes interact and play, the strengths and weaknesses of each other and the different gear levels of each class. know ing this will help you play the market if you wanted to do that.
if you did 8 bosses by the end of the week, youd be 31 at least. and higher level means youre in for better loot radining.
its a vicious cycle that snowballs into HIGH levels and HIGH equipment full drop rates.
im tellin ya, do a few dozen raids, youll never stop raiding after you see the enormity of loot that drops.
yu dont believe me? Tirak is a lvl 28 raid boos that has been known to drop MULTIPLE elven swords.

Get your *** to Gludin and get repeatedly PKed like every normal person.
WTH are you still doing on Elmore after your job change!?!

Negative!
Casual gamer here. Only 56 on my main. Been here since OB.
That's an understatement. Getting to 28 even at what I consider casual should take a month. You're almost comatose, no offense.
Hm...
I played for about 5 months and i'm only 35 :p
I'm sure there are a lot of casual gamers in Lineage II, that's why NCSoft is secretly planning their NA relaxed server, which of course i wont switch to because i probably would be 45 or 50 by the time they implemant it (lets say 3 or 4 months ;)) and there's no way i'm gonna start all over again :p

There is indeed a problem in the way the game evolves.
Beginners get some help.
Hardcore players get new content and see their leveling curve eased with each new chronicle by getting better gear and better areas to level in.
Ppl in between are F_O_R_G_O_T_T_E_N.
Now I don't know your gaming schedule but there's something in this game that ppl call grind.
It's a nice concept. It consists of hunting till it becomes boring. What do you have to do when it becomes boring ? Easy. You just have to keep going. It will then become incredibly boring. What then ? Easy.. Go on again. When do you have to stop ? When RL becomes so intrusive you can't ignore it anymore.
If you follow that method...
you'll have learned what it is to level. ;) Welcome to the real world of L2 ;)
Dedicate a week-end to it and you can be 40+ btw...
I'm in between at 55 - and I don't feel even remotely neglected.
So cool...
There's no point in grinding until it gets boring - that's a true waste of time.
I would not leave town if I were not set out to have fun.
Some things have to be done. You wanna level fast ? Allow yourself some boredom. You can't expect not to be bored by killing 2500 Soldiers of Grief for your level 56... And you won't level fast if you don't.
But you already said you're more than casual. And I'm too in a way, with no toon above 63... even if I have 4 60+.
But for Splatter he's indeed about to a: abandon ; b : miss the train.
So c'mon Splat. Get bored by the grind. All high level players have faced it. It's like the lottery. 100% of the winners have played.
So 100% of the 75+ have been bored by the grind.
Actually, if I had the time I could do the rest of my grind to 56 in one sitting and not get bored. I know I did the first half in two, one of which was very short.

To the original poster, Splatter. Oh man! Don't worry about the next meal. There is a banquet in the next room waiting for you. Everything is on the table and it never ends. The serving girls/boys are very efficient.
The best advice was to go to Dion and join the raid boss shuffle. You are ready at level 28. You will meet people, get some xp, and maybe pick up some sweet drops. You can always return to Elmore to bed down for the night or to just stroll around to make sure no one is there.
In some ways you are the best suited to L2. You don't seem to need to join the level grind. It's the thing that has turned away more players than almost anything..... except maybe the farmers. You just need to get out a little more, enjoy!
Splatter only plays for about half an hour at a time - thus taking two years to get to level 28 - from what I hear. That's not enough time to get to Dion, find a raid party and actually hang around for the boss.
Listen, Splatter, your worries are only really valid if you are not doing what you want to be doing.
There will always be people around lvl 25, 35 etc. Some may be alts but so what.
The real question is what do you want and are you going about it the right way in order to get it? Are you enjoying yourself?
If you are enjoying yourself by staying I Elmore and playing 30 minutes a day then no big deal. However, if you want to be part of a clan, do raids, pvp a bit or whatever, you really do need to make some sort of effort.
Case in point.
I have a roommate who is a great person and wants to be in a regular relationship, maybe have kids someday the whole nine yards. However, he really doesnt do anything to make that happen. Great guy, top notch human being, but makes no effort to go out and meet anyone new. Doesnt help that he is a bit of a homebody.
Same goes for you.
If you stay in Elmore doing your 30 minutes a week or whatever then its going to be harder to achieve some of the more common goals that people achieve in this game. However, that doesnt have to be a bad thing if you are satisfied with it.
If you only have 30 minutes per week to play then you have to accept that you will be somewhat limited to very immediate goals. If you dont mind it then no worries, as I said .. we will always have people who are part time players or who have alts.
I suppose what I am saying is, find out what you want, decide what you have to give up in order to make it happen and make peace with that, and then get it.
Do not let the agenda of others pressure you into something you dont want. Dont let others define you. Do be aware of what you want and need.
after reading Sovrath's reply, i'm feeling good right about now. considering i started playing L2 three weeks ago and my main is now a lvl22. hmmm i guess off to gludin/dion to start doing those raids, or maybe its still too early for me to be raiding...
Actually, if I had the time I could do the rest of my grind to 56 in one sitting and not get bored. I know I did the first half in two, one of which was very short.

oh my my...
I almost went to find a post of yours to coppy the format better, but in the end, I'm just lazy. :(
.....Unless you 2-box. Then park your dd and your buffer in a cata and only come up for ss and potions. You can make 20+% in 30 minutes up to the mid 30s at least (and the seeding is good as well)
Of course the lack of light does make your skin go pale after a while
Darkmotion, I understood every line of that post. :(
Think this will get them to expand my alloted therapy numbers?
I do suppose it's hard to be active in a clan for half an hour a week - unless that half hour is firmly scheduled, for raids with your clan. That would certainly solve two problems at once.
But despite the overpowering moans of "I'm so impoverished", nobody is ever willing to actually form an alt raiding clan.
That's still not making much process. 30 mins to stock up, and maybe enough time to both get to a catacomb and find a room. Log out. Log in, hope that room is not camped and free, exp. I don't know, me personally I'd be frustrated with the lack of progress in about a week.
30 MINS? That's not really much time to do anything in any MMO.
If you, Splatter, enjoy doing things other than "grinding" such as questing (real quests with cutscenes and music), or crafting (blacksmithing, goldsmithing, bonecraft, leathercraft, clothcraft, alchemy, fishing, mining, harvesting, planting a garden), then perhaps Lineage 2 may not be suited for you.
Lineage 2's number 1 aspect, is the grind...it's the heart and soul of the game. Becoming stronger, richer and more powerful so you can shape the virtual world around you...if this doesn't appeal to you because of time constraints...I suggest picking up another game not based on grinding.
(hint: FFXI)
Having played FFXI for over 3 years and L2 for over a year, I can safely say that both games are the best in their own category and appeal to different types of people.
FFXI has story/content: 3 Nations story, Zilart, Promathia, Aht Urgan.
L2 has PvP oriented style: wealth and power.
Both games require more than 30 mins to play, but if you had only 30 mins and wanted to do something, solo play or craft, than you shold consider your entertainment options.
That's an understatement. Getting to 28 even at what I consider casual should take a month. You're almost comatose, no offense.
Comatose is an understatement, this person has been "playing" for two years and has a lvl 28 shaman? wth is wrong with you, really why have you paid the $15 a month. To come here and talk about you being left behind, you did it to yourself I have no compassion for you because of that. I bet with those 6k+ posts you have voiced your opinion (more than once) about in game play and yet you havn't even experienced it.

Well, I think that is being a bit harsh. Value is value. If he feels that he has gotten his value for 15 per month then I don't see an issue.
Heck... people roleplay in these games and hardly level at all. They just use the tools at hand.
You pay for access to the game world. What one does with it is up to them. Having said that, I think he is now wondering if it is worth it to go forward. Let's just say he is going through a mid-life crisis. Instead of choosing to go out and buy a Red Porsche he is reevaluating his purpose.

He doesn't usually talk about being left behind - in fact, Splatter is on average probably more content with his level 28 shammy than most others. His pace is his pace, slow as it may be.
Half an hour is room for plenty - depending on what you consider to be plenty, and the goals you set yourself.
For $15, you can watch a movie, buy a drink and some popcorn - that's the same amount of hours as he plays. He's not being shortchanged, per se, the rest of us are simply getting a very good deal.
I heard some dude in Korea did 1-75 in like a month O_O
and there was someguy here who said he could do 1-52 in a week and a half of "casual play"...but he won't tell me how
I think a lot of people are trying to be nice, but not facing the facts here, well a few have hehe.
Two years to get 28, well at that pace you would be lucky to be 40 in 3-4 years, by then what, c9 c10?
Sorry, there will be nothing left for you at all, cold hard truth. I am not saying levels mean everything, but on the otherhand, they kinda mean something no? Someone posted about it above, and they are correct, lineage sorry to say but, it is about grinding, and levels. That is not all there is to the game, but imho, I would say the game is 75% about that. The rest is grping with friends, social stuff, rb's, pvp, sieges and whatever else people find to make the game fun for themselves.
By all means, play the game like you want, and how you want. No one is here to put you down but, you asked what will be left for you after taking 2 years to get to lvl 28. Nothing will be left for you, how could there be? Avg level right now imo could be estimated at what, 60? In 3-4 years, how many people will still be playing the game? Will the avg level be 70-75 by then? Who knows but the wider the level gap gets between you and the vast majority, the worse things get for you.
Play the game if you enjoy it. 15$ a month to do something you enjoy is nothing financially speaking. Play the game, have fun, and don't worry about what level you are, as long as you have fun, that is what counts. But when you ask what will be left for you, well, nothing I am afraid, sorry.
I don't care what level I am as long as their are people close to my level. I am hoping to atleast find Raid Groups for all levels!
Plus, many people make rerolls hopefully still seeing lower level players.
two years in elmore...the problem is, none of the new content is being added there. (exceptions: the "into the world" quest, which is the most messed up thing ever and they should remove it from the game, and the cursor is 3D now when you click to move your toon). all of the new content is only found at higher levels of the game. there is plenty of time while leveling to wander around and look at the wonderful world of L2. no reason you have to practice your socratic method in elmore. there are plenty of other places to go and think. and there is lots of fun stuff in the game that you will miss if you quit before leveling, becasue leveling is a prerequisite for doing them. if you never quit and slowlyslowly make it to lvl 75, well that works too.
Ok, an offer. 2 weeks from now my Freetime goes overboard (probably unfortunatly, but such is life). I am leveling an SO on a second account around 32 (now). Pm me and I can group her with you, or if she is higher level by then I can OOP buff you for awhile.
I have a lvl 28 monk, during that time of two years i deleveled him by 10 levels to get more SP and more Adena. I don't mind the grind, and i see all this stuff with farmed raid bosses and wonder if there will be anything left for myself later.....

IMO, this game has gotten too easy
and another, IMO, the cheaters have entirely cheapend the game play for anyone wanting to play with out cheating - who are the players that are Hero's for the most part? Who are the clans/alliances that control the sieges for the most part? I've been in the alliances that contol the servers and I have been in team speak with Heros on my server - I can say, that I don't know of a single powerful clan/alliance or a Hero on my server that is legit or even denies not being legit. l2blah does more than kill brain cells, you can see the leaders of the different power houses and read their policies regarding their clans and even read their clan member's tiraid of fluff . . . the normal players, if looking for end game content, have gotten owned by the wanna be players.
I've sold over a dozen Greater Heal Spellbooks for up to 1.1mil each over the past week :( IMO, that's sad that ppl will/can buy them for that cost.
more STORY! more CONTENT! and here is the chant of the ages since BETA!
Go back to the roots devs. Build the world for the world is not for the whiners that play in it. Build the world and make it live and BREATHE!
oh and get an actual developer from Korea to come and talk to us. Here or on a fansite forum, it does not matter, as long as we have the semblance of being heard!

You sir are playing the game wrong, Delvling from 28 to get more sp and adena is a shame. I know you don't know but at higher lvls you will get 1-5k adena per mob and 800+ sp, I think this will suffice won't it? I just don't understand why people in this thread arn't tossing what this person is saying ou the window. He has been in the game for two years with a lvl 28. Splatter you have no room to talk about "what's in it for me" what have you contributed to the game? nothing.
I want to be known as the old Orc of times past from the days of prelude among the new players of C12....
I want to be known as the trustworthy Dwarf crafter to his customers in giran....
I want to be known as the Human warrior willing to lay down his sword for a noble cause....
Then it doesn't matter what lvl you are because all those desires are pretty much not dependent on Level. Thouhg you might consider upping your play time a bit. how about 1 hr. 30 min per week?
Actually, if the rest of your post had weight, that part is wrong.
Why ? Because he does play, have friends and interact with many people, changing their overall experience with the game.
He might even make you realise there IS content and a life at lower levels. That's contributing. And prolly worth a tad more than being 78, even if with a 1212/4 pvp score.
He has been in the game for two years with a lvl 28. Splatter you have no room to talk about "what's in it for me" what have you contributed to the game? nothing.
I'm afraid you have not looked at the Technical Discussion chatroom enough. Splatter is usually contributing to every post, trying to help folks get their game to run on their computer, often successfully.
What has Splatter contibuted? He has helped a large number of folks get into the game. Without him, there would be less folks here. I'd call that a major contribution.
Splatter, I'd say the future is so bright you gotta wear shades.
The reason why is simple, you know what you want out of the game, and you know what you are willing to put in to get that out.
They are adding even more low lvl content in C5, so it's not true that you have to be 75/75 to "experience the game.
True enough, you will be limited in what you can experience, but that is directly proportional to how much time you put in. That's pretty much standard for all hobbies. If I flew remote controlled planes, and was only willing to put in say 2 hrs per week, I would not expect to be flying the best custom jet and doing acrobatics, even after 5 years. Same thing with the game.
What you want from this game does not exist for a "pure casual" gamer.
There are other games, if MMO's is your thing, that are far much more "friendlier" and "funner" for those who only have a few time to play.
Don't let sentimentality get the best of you or your wallet.
True, But as funny as it sounds. I think the grind in this game builds character! That and i just love playing my orc, the both of us are to much like each other to leave.
Maybe my worries are unfounded, i don't know..... :)
and why do folks brag about being rude, crude, objectionable, and just flat out mean? we (so called normal) players are in this world to have fun and meet others. yes, there are a lot of changes that have been implemented from the start of the game. and, yes there will be more changes implemented in the future. That is the nature of life no matter where you are working. and for some, the 'hardocore' style is for them. go for it. for others, the more easy paced style is fun. if you think that you have 'missed' something, agreed, look at what you have, and where you want to be. then figure out how to get there, that is the challenge. are you up for the challenge? if so, then good luck to you and let us all work hard at our own pace.
I suggest picking up another game not based on grinding.
(hint: FFXI)
It has it's charms, the major one being the fact that it's actually a skill based MMO.
But there is nothing "casual" about Final Fantasy! It is certainly a repetetive grind. I played it CONSTANTLY for a very long time. As far as content goes? Sure, it has more than lineage2.
NEWS FLASH :The stomach of a starving dog has more content than Lineage2.
Unless you have an hour or two to wait to get a party, avoid the non solo, EVIL time eating Final Fantasy IX!
There are many games that target casual players, and some of them are even worth playing. But of course, every one of them has one flaw or another and will eventually bore you. My advice to you is to give up and go outside. :(
