Dropping valuable items when killed by mob

There has got to be some logic to this somewhere, no way it can just be random. I have a SH that dies often because of the suicide suit (Demon) that he wears. My drops when killed are almost always jewelry or armor or both. Most of the time nice people have returned the items but it is going to get expensive if this keeps up. I have tried the inv full of maps, no help there. It may just be random but it seems the more adena on the character, the more prone he is to drop valuable items. Has anyone else noticed this and is there anything to that theory ?

I have to figure something out here, got magic critted by a mob for 2.5 k, died, and dropped the only +++ piece of jewelry on me,not a happy camper.

Let me know what your experience with death drops has been and if being broke or flush with adena had any effect on it. Thanks.
Worst thing I dropped that I didn't get back was a full plate helm.
I don't think I've ever dropped equipment on death...

Either you lie or I hate you.
Actually, now that I think about it, I once dropped a Nassen's Earring (+3 SoV blades and a few dimention diamonds) after getting trained in DVC, so you don't have to hate me.
I can only think of one time when I dropped a pice of my gear. It was when I first started playing. Well kinda(I was the worst noob in the world. Took me 5 months to reach lvl 20 on my first toon) I finally went to gludin. and walked all the way out to fellmere and was killed and dropped my bronze breastplate. That was the worst for me becuase that early in the game i had no idea how to make money and no friends. Well my dwarf fought for a few weeks with no shirt. :(
Considering the adena-pools of some big alliances Im permabroke, worst I ever dropped was my Mithril Shirt when I was low 40's hunting for books in Ivory Crater.
Nine out of ten, I don't drop anything at all. :x
I dropped my tallum helm once but it was when i died in a party of clannies. THAT is scary [censored].
My SH has died many times, I've never dropped anything I'd miss. Random inventory crap. On my bishop however, I onced dropped my stockings, another time a ring, dropped my helm twice over 3 deaths, dropped my boots, my earring, necklace. I guess healers don't hold onto their equipment very well.

that's y if i ever get my dc helm... I'm still going to lvl in avadon and only wear dc for pvp...
I'd have to agree with Ellie, my prophet is constantly getting knocked out of his armor. For a while it was a clan joke that everytime I died I would get knocked out of my pants. :(

I am with you on this. I have dropped things from armor to accesories, to soulshots, greater heals, to freekin 2nd or 3rd weapons I have in inventory (You can and will drop them if they are not equipped).

All I can tell you is that the formula for droping is NOT random :(. Your chances of droping a piece of armor, weapon (not equipped), or accesories is much higher than droping something like a map, or an antidote.

However, I have found a full proof way of not droping anything :D. Shhhhhhhhhh dont tell anyone ;).
Stay in town? lol
Haha no and I'm not saying. I don't wanna lose my advantage :p.

I cant say I tested it 1000 times, but over 50 and I never dropped a thing.
I consistantly drop my helm and jewels (all at the same time sometimes). Worst drop I have had yet was NM leather armor +5, NM helm +5, and Maj necklace. Thank god for clannies X.X. I havent -not- dropped something since level 40, and it almost never comes out of my inventory, but rather from my equipped items. Sometimes I think Lineage has it out for me...
Raid bosses are brutal for that. We were doing Lord Shax and I "wisely" popped a lucky charm appropriate for my grade. I dropped a +3 earring of black ore. We were trained by farmers while trying to do the boss and a clannie dropped a +5 Major arcana robe. I've never held down the pick up key so hard before in my life.
My experience is that drops-on-death varies with character and time. My dwarf didn't drop anything for a long time, then on successive deaths, dropped +4 FPA and BO Ring, followed by FP Boots. None were returned, and it was before the "Attention RobberBaron picked up +4 FPA" announcements that we now have in C4.

To defend against losing drops; carry a Blessed SoE, or party with brave friends. The BSoE will warp you and your equip out of harm's way. Brave friends will rush to your body and spam pick-up to save your drops (note, the mobs that just killed you are probably still there, so your friend risks death doing this.) I saved a friend's Tallum Plate Armor doing this, and the healers were actually able to keep me alive after the mobs swarmmed me for getting so close.

The best way to avoid dropping on death to mobs is to not try to get too far out on the edge. If you pull so many mobs that one or two extra is a serious problem, back off a bit. Leveling a bit slower is better than leveling a bit faster, followed by a few 4% step-backs after dieing.
I dropped a "gender change" potion once while playing my noob toon on Kain. I don't play there much so I didn't care to go pick it up.
First time I dropped anything remotely valuable was after a total party wipeout in Toi. Dropped my Doom Helmet. You can imagine my panic as I had no idea if I'd have it returned. It was - by the nice group that saw us go down and came to rez us. I'm one of those carebears that takes no pleasure in stealing a real player's gear if they dropped it. I always return it, but I never knew, if the table was turned, if I'd get the same treatment.

Real players have dropped all sorts of gear to mob death and it boggles the mind. A fond memory was the group that kept KSing mobs out of my room so they could AOE. They didn't have any respect for me and my clanny. Then it happened.

We see a light elf on a strider trying to outrun a train of death. She didn't make it. We watched as she and the strider were killed. After a while, the mobs went away. It was the same elf that had been KSing us.

She dropped an OEed Kris and some armor. Ouch. I walked over, and she didnt say a word. I stood next to the gear then picked it up. The person typed a bad word *heheh* just as I was hitting the trade window button. I gave her the gear, asked if she wanted a 20% rez, rezzed her, then fought through two rooms to rez her party and let them grab the stuff they had dropped.

I've never seen a more grateful group and to this day those alliances and clans have treated me and mine with much respect. :)

Burn! thanks a lot SirE :P
I don't really die alot cause i think its boring but:P
Died to a RB dropped Theca upper.
Killed by orfen dropped Ring of Ages. Lol funny thing i found that ring of ages in Sea Of Spores that same day. Other then that i only dropped crap like 5 varnish and stuff but as i said i dont die much.
SR's can outrun death, try playing a squishy healer :P

I dropped a ring of ages to an ant horde in the ants nest when trying to rescure some people. I went in with a duo but a clannie decided to SOE out when I got aggro instead of helping :P

(Teanna I love you forever for organizing the "rez the stupid rezzer" outing..lol)
Nothing is worse then paying full price in your items from the person who picked them up.
Just last night i dropped my BO earring, someone else picked it up, and war started over it :P
I don't usually drop anything valuable, but I did drop a bone breastplate once, so I know how you feel. I wasn't able to get it back.
worst I ever dropped was Doom Leather Armor (the main piece) in VoS. thankfully the place is mostly deserted so when I came back it was still there.
Yeah... I never really understood that. VoS is the best hunting spot in the game for lvl 6xs, yet Im the only one there.
The flame DoT that one (maybe more) mob in Valley of Saints uses is evil, I hate that place sooo much.

As for the original topic, I don't die all that often. But I've dropped Divine Stockings, level 55 Strider and Formal Wear, and jewelry a couple of times (probably more that I don't remember), lucky for me I've always got my items back. It certainly has nothing to do with the amount of adena you have though, I'm always poor and still drop things.

Stay in town? lol

Doesnt always help - I once dropped my majestic necklace inside Goddard. I was lucky that some people from the party I was in managed to pick it up, and was in large part my own fault as i managed to pull the mobs myself. Just got a 30 second lag spike that ended in a disconnect when i was going to take care of the mobs :(
It was a joke.

level 55 Strider and Formal Wear

That's harsh.
I drop things left and right, I am known as the exploding piggiebank on my server. Whole armor sets, dozen jewelry, etc. alot of it lost to [censored].

Yeah... I never really understood that. VoS is the best hunting spot in the game for lvl 6xs, yet Im the only one there.

Well, I kinda hate the mobs there and the ways they link, teleport and interact. I really hate Blade Splendors, even though they are rumored to drop BW Tunic Recs that our healers need. So far they dropped only me... Some magic users there are quite nasty too.
Plus the quests there are quite poor comparing to some other quests available at those levels. Money-making aspect is quite important for me.
Still on Teon this place is swarming with nukers. Maybe on your server it's different.

And back on topic. I usually don't drop anything. And when I do, it's usually not worth much. So far only once I have dropped something valuable and that was a BO earring. Many thanks to the Leader of clan Tsuki, Shinrou, for helping me in getting it back. I really appreciate it. It was a great gesture.
I've always gotten everything back, been pretty lucky. The mithril stockings were taken by a clan who basically told me to bite them, but our other bishop got it back for me (Amandalynn). The ring was rescued the helm was given back by my party (SheWhoOwns), the second helm was given back by a random party (thank you TaediumVitae), the ring was rescued by a number of people (Teanna, SiriusNight, etc) and all other drops have been within a clan party. I don't do random groups any more, not at this level.
i dropped all my lucky charms :(
That has to be the height of irony too.
I have found that I drop more often when I die hard, i.e., from a raid boss, or getting pounded by group/social mobs that are white or higher (i.e., cata mobs).

And yes, my SE has proportionately dropped more items than any of my other chars - BW gloves and BO Earring was the last drop - got them back though :)
The problem I think is that you have alot of equipment slots = many more checks.

I usually pop like a pinata on death :( Sucks.
there was one very very bad day i had a lil while ago. i dropped the SAME earring 6 deaths in a row.

 got it back each time, that was the fortunate part. but some dude PMd me asking how i keppt getting full earring drops.

LOL
