My alliance did Antharas last night. Everything went well, no major bugs, etc. till the end. When Antharas died, a large amount of people got no xp, no drop list, no "Your Raid was Successful" message, nothing. The ending cinematic was played, and that was it. Half my clan experienced this.
Before you ask, yes, we were in sight range of Antharas when he died. And yes, we were in damage dealing groups. I wasn't in a major DD group, but others in my clan were.
For instance, two members of my clan were in a nuker party together, which did a fair amount of damage to Antharas. At the end of the raid, they were standing side by side, practically right under Antharas. One got about 20% xp, the other didn't get any xp or even a drop list.
The one who didn't get xp PMed a GM about it and got the response that "Not every player will receive xp when doing Antharas. This is by design." That's ******ed though. At the least, we should have all gotten the "Your raid has been successful" message and a drop list. I mean, on many occasions, I have stood near a group of people doing a raid boss and gotten that message and a drop list, even when I didn't participate at all (farmers doing raid bosses, lowbie raid bosses, etc.)
Personally, I didn't expect to receive much xp at all, being in a mixed group like I was. But some of my clanmates, being in nuker parties, did expect to get xp. And frankly, we all deserved to get xp. My job of running around rezzing people was no less important than the DD's jobs.
Has anyone else experienced this? The fact that we didn't get a message and drop list makes me think this was a bug, not a feature of the game.
As one of my clanmembers said, if there's a chance that we won't get xp when he dies, by design, then there should also be a chance that we won't loose xp when we die. :p
It is intended design that a summoner will, no matter what, get the aggro when running in the open field. It was intended design that dagger crit damage enhancement bypassed PDef.
Etc.
When they say intended design, they mean that it works as they expect, not as they think it is good.
Yeah I've noticed that too. I've done two antharas raids. The first one I was dead when he died, so I got no XP obviously. But I did get the drop list.
The second time I was alive when he died, but although I was in a major DD group and standing nearby, I got no xp, nor a drop list when he died. I thought it was just a weird bug affecting me but apparently not hmm...
Wow that is totally ******ed. And I cannot see any logical game-balance reason why not everybody should get exp - everybody "experienced" being attacked by Antharas, so why should not everybody get experience points?
If they are so concerned that it would be overpowered if all of those nukers got ten million exp, why not just spread the exp equally (according to level) over everybody who is in the room? That way the nukers would get far less exp, and those who do not deal much damage (everybody else) would get more. Voilà, balanced.
That should be done with all raids. All people sharing same command channel (or party if channel is not present) should get equal amount of exp.
It's annoying when I as summoner am often placed in tank party... we get around 1%xp while nuker/archer party gets 5%... our job is no less important.
I bet 'by design' does not mean 'intentional.' This is sure to make unhappy customers, so it is not in NCsoft's interest to do it this way.
I bet what is occurring is that the 'design' of the xp distributing subroutine cannot handle the number of potential recepients in an Antharas raid. When there are more raiders than the subroutine can handle, the 'extra' folks get no xp or message. So it is 'by the game design' but it is not 'what we would intend.'
Sorry Listof; you, and the others, deserved some reward for the raid.
That person probably cut off the first part of what they were going to say. Which is "UGLY by design".. something we like to say when something should really be a bug but the programmers can't fix it so they say it's not.

lol, sad thing is that this actually sounds plausible. I could very well imagine that this is the problem.
