You see, kat, that's what the trap is all about. You have to tempt the fish to bite. The idea is to place yourself in a "passing" area. This way you get a current flow of targets (Like a cop hanging at a strategic position with a radar...).
You may make a few adena out of running away with a bank robbery, but soon enough, lots of peeps will be after you (and I'm not talking about the police).

That alone means, that roughly 95% of the whole playerbase can easily kill me, if they decide, that they want to.
Of those crowd, there is a significant lot, that do not need any kind of reason to kill a cute dwarf.
If you want to go red, cause I "stole your loot", which you are to lazy to pick up, then by all means do so.
If you need such a silly "trap" to justify your behaviour, then you can as well just go ahead and kill me right away, even if I am just running past.
If you would feel bad, you could always tell yourself, that I did pickup some of the loot or that I just wanted to pickup some, so you needed to kill me first to protect "your" loot.

Everytime I see 923 like this I feel the growing need to make a L1 character, never level or equip it...but run around Ninja looting all the lazy 923'ers who don't pickup.

The only benefit of nukers are that they are almost to bussy with killing mobs fast as hell than to pic up their loot... $$+++++
I didn't read anything in the EULA that it's forbidden to pic up stuff that lays around and depends to nobeody after the 5sec pic up block.
I only can laugh about that topic, tell me where you lvl and where I can pic up the loot. My lvl 1 char will love to be killed by you and to see how your karma grows and grows... what a kid :)
Whats wrong with you people? The other day i was running back to my spot when i saw a huge field of adena as far as the eye can see. Being the greedy bastard i am i ran over and started picking it up. The guy that "owned" it and his friend pk'd me a few times for taking "their" adena. They didn't want it bad enough to pick it up and IMO anything thats left lying on the floor is unowned. If people taking your loot is such a problem why don't you just pick it up in the first place? It's not like they can take it out of your inventory.

okay really. orcs are not ditry little litterbugs, neither are dwarfs, reason being that these are the two races without Real nukers/archers. the ONLY classes that litter are ranged. so if you want to complain that it "wastes too much time" to go and pickup your loot, ill just tell you to reroll a melee, so you can level faster AND get to the loot before i do :p

Hmmmmm, maybe there is nothing in the EULA about this, but there is good reason for it. The EULA is NCSoft's law. I create my own by-laws and enforce them as I please.

3) I hate people like you. Who do u think u are? Get off your lazy bottom and start picking up what u have left on the ground if u want it. Or else dont even think of starting a thread like this.

I'm a nuker, and I always pick up my drops. Anyone that doesnt is just plain lazy.
First, purely technical reasons you should pick up drops:
1. All that stuff on the ground are just extra polys, textures, and heaven-forbid shaders. Maybe you have a good computer and can handle a few hundred piles of adena. Others can't. And it's not just rendering, it's the lag you get from the server having to tell you where ever single pile of adena is.
2. Connections are never going to be perfectly stable. Between you, your ISP, and NCSoft, there are plenty of places where the link can be broken. You disconnect, and moneys = mines. =) Leaving it on the ground past the safety-pickup period is, meh, fine whatever, the money is still yours. leave it for 5 minutes, and its questionable. Leave it for half an hour, and suffer a full disconnect and I think youve pretty much lost dibs to it.
3. Have fun with server crashes. Half Mil down the tube because of a crash? Shoulda picked it up.
Then you have the player factor. Maybe you want to leave a hill of shiney hillsides around to bait people into picking it up, just so you can threaten them with PK. Or, maybe they will just PK you right off the bat, and pick up your drops while you sit there and watch. Also, if your going to leave drops around, you should at least keep it in a confined area. It always bugs me when people leave a MASSIVE area littered with adena...and you look around and theres not a person to be seen. Their off over a hill or something! So your like "heh, free money, yay!" Then they FINNALLY see you like 5 minutes later and threaten you. If you leave it on the ground and you go out of sight range of it...then thats just asking for trouble.

That's why pickup goes on a hotbar and I can press down with one finger, enjoy a sammich, and watch my coffers fill.

thats in elf noob town though, maybe, maybe 100k if you pick it all up.
and since I keep all my toons on same server, money is not a problem, probably would skip on that 100k if it got my toon leveled significantly faster. Money can be made afk by playing the market extremely well for me now that I have put in the work farming, etc to get the base funds.

o_O I CDL all the time and still pick up the loot as it drops...Adena doesnt drop until the mob is dead anyways so I dont see the danger...shoot it, pick up adena. If anything is next to the adena, shoot them and then pick it up. Not difficult.
Gotta agree here, if you're too lazy to pick up you're loot you obviously don't need it that much, once the timer runs out it's up for grabs. Leaving hundreds of piles of adena around creates lag, too.

If the person wnot picking up the drops that no longer belong to them once the drop timer is off, decides to pk me, by all means do so, It just lets me have a chance of getting gear. ;]

For quite a while now, in certain areas that I hunt, I have to take a half hour out of my grinding to collect the unclaimed drops that litter the land. I never really understood if it was lazy players just wanting to have a field of gold or if some stupid bot program was flawed. Either way, I claimed all that I could see. Last night I made 50k, previous nights have yielded anywhere from 20k to 100k in gold and mats just sitting there.
If it's there and the player is not around. It's mine. If I see a player nearby who is currently battling, I will give them the benefit of a doubt and leave it for them. Unless they kill a mob right next to them and it drops money and then the player walks away. If I see that, I think bot and it's mine (especially if they have a stupid name).
Didn't your mom ever tell you to clean your mess? Same goes for in game. You don't clean your drops, then I will clean them for you.

I guess if you have a billion adena already and are leveling a character, there's little reason to pick up drops.
There is a "side economy" related to this. You see, if you are clever and know the terrain, you can actually make a lot of adena without lifting a finger.
As people "twink" up some chars, they have no use for 159 adena. It's leveling the char that counts.
What I REALLY enjoy is a 1 adena tip. **** KIDS ! Stop putting graffitis in my area !
not quite true, I probably have somewhere near half a billion(gear+cash) and rising from playing the market, and I still feel compelled to pick up EVERYTHING.

The point you gave about it giving endless lag to other players is very valid. Some friends and I were in Forest of the Dead... and I started lagging very badly when prior to that I as going just fine.
Quick investigation showed a large field of adena, drops and silver arrows just over the next hill. No nuker in sight, so we started picking up the things. Clearing the field of drops helped reduce the lag a little, but noticably. Wandering on, we found even MORE fields of gold and loot. Actively annoyed, we continued picking it up then a human mage comes up and asks us to stop picking up her loot. We readily agreed, but asked her to kindly pick up her loot, as it was causing our party lag. She apologized and started clearing her field. We went back to where we had been before and continued our own hunt.
Seriously, several fields of adena, mats and loot. I WILL pick it up unless you tell me to stop, then you had better be ready to go pick things up.
I've partied with nukers and archers. Playing my healer, my dwarf or my bd, I will inevitably get pickup duty. It is from a nuker I learned that it's good manners to pick up after yourself - or find yourself lagspiking and dead because you didn't. Since arrows would weigh him down, he would simply drag them into the 'destroy' bin icon but never to just throw it around to get rid of.
