Ok first i know some of you readers will be angry at me, some will reply lies or crazy stuff but all what i'm about to write is true and happend to me a couple of days ago. Oh and i edited the screenshots to get rid of the names and other text.

Story: After a 6hour grind in the catacombes me and my friend called it the day so we went fo town, few mins later my friend loged and I whent for skills in the church. the moment i klick my first new skill i hear the sound of adena dropping, thinking to my self "mmm that sound came from behind the church" so i whent to see if someone was makeing a adena picture or something els. insted of finding a picture i found a single stack of 44.3 Million adena on the floor in a small corner of the back of the church. right after i see the stack some dwarf logs in next to me ... but I picked up the 44.3 MIL adena.
Proof: Screenshot 1 (Edited) (http://users.pandora.be/Maeglin/PickedUP.jpg)

:) yes me got 44.3 mil and yeah sorry for that dorf, plenty of other ways to transfer money. so to end my story the dwarf made 1 personal message to me, the standard "please can i get my money back" ^^ ohwell i just putted him in my ignore list and that was that. he still followed me tho and asked others to "PM" me to ask about his money back ets... even some guy wanted to trick me in leaving town to hunt but I allmost now sure it was his main or friend to PK me or train me what ever i just don't trusted it at that time.
Oh yea the second proof: Screenshot 2 (edited) (http://users.pandora.be/Maeglin/Beggingitback.jpg)

so you see the lottery comes in diffrent ways ^^, yet again i know some of you will say i did some illigal thing to optain the 44.3mil but i can give you my Word i did not do something illigal to get the 44.3MIL.
How **** stupid

i know some of you will say i did some illigal thing to optain the 44.3mil but i can give you my Word i did not do something illigal to get the 44.3MIL.

It's not illegal, it's just not very nice i think :(
I did that when i first started to play the game and didnt know about the warehouses, i hid somewhere and log on my different characters to exchange stuff...
But then again, i cant imagine how someone with 44.3M adena could not know about warehouses, so... :p

Little e, big B
Something similar happened to me.

Only the character dropped everything.. and kept logging off in between.

Appearently, someone was being hacked, and I was **** near closed to being banned.
nice, lucky you.
Well.. That was not a delivery of adena purchased with RL cash, since those deliveries do not occur that way. It was a real, but foolish, player transfering money between his accounts.

What you did was not illegal, but it hurt a real player very badly. I would have given him his money, and advised him of how the warehouse works. Your reputation, which is based in large part on how you treat others, is in your hands.
44.3m...1k to transfer it all without chance of loosing it. Pretty dumb.
i think you made another player leave....
owned
Wow, there was a similar story to this a LONG time ago. About half of the people flamed the guy and the other half congratulated him. I'm in the second half. "A fool and his money..."

Back in my Lionna days, I rolled an Orc. I noticed (by hearing adena dropping) that every night at 9 PM dorfs would gather behind a building and drop loot (mats and adena). So, I would "Yoink" it. This went on for several days until whomever was doing this noticed that he wasn't getting his stuff. The last time it happened one of the dorfs came up to me and started yelling in a foreign language (I'm guessing Chinese but who knows).
owned =o

i think you made another player leave....

..... bcuz he wasnt smart .

Ya lifetec .. gratz with it.
too bad i needed to go to bed and i wasnt in ur party anymore :)

Btw .. if you didnt pickup the adena .. some1 else would do it ... another proof some ppl dont think how to transfer things :/
sounds like an atempt to justify to ure friends that u got so much money all of a sudden...
-no really I dindt buy it, this dwarf droped it on the ground and I picked it up ^^

That was just my bad typing :p

Gratz on lvl Sir E.
I was running from the Gludin grocer to the gatekeeper on my dwarf last night and I spotted a pile of adena in the middle of the square, between the warrior's guild and the spellbook store.

I moused over it, just expecting to see 1a, or some such.

Instead, I see 1,312,452 adena. Well, I ran over, to confirm. Sure enough, it was over a million adena.

The guy that had dropped it noticed the dwarf standing there and picked it up again.

Me: "That's a good way to lose your money."

Him: "0qounea aousnf euankn rkacne anwlriuan" (Well, it was something just as incoherant).

That's about the point where I thought I should have just picked it up myself and been done with it.
You would have been KoS by the entire greek nation if you had taken that money in the middle of Gludiwhatever. They take this game WAY too seriously.

You would have been KoS by the entire greek nation

Right, so no big deal.
Like I haven't been KOS before.

Hell, I still remember the Chaos KOS list.
There's no rules against it, unless it was an adena transaction for RL money. But of course, just because you're allowed to do it, doesn't make it right.
I'd agree, it's harsh to do to a real player. But seriously...that's just plain stupid. He could've ported both chars somewhere without anyone around but he was lazy and paid the price. I'd say it's entirely up to you. Can't blame someone for taking opportunity when it knocks. You didn't do anything wrong...you just didn't do anything stupid :p
Not a thing to go bragging about any more than scamming - both are an exploit of unbelievable idiocy. The "victim" does not get my pity, but the people who are patting you on your back, I can only shake my head at.

Sith: He could also have logged them both in. Even my PC can run two clients, and its 1.3GHz processor is the most brag-worthy piece of hardware in it. Still, bragging about this is in bad taste at best.
Some people have too high of a standards. I understand what you say, Maline, but I don't agree with you, not anymore, not in such matters.

This has only happened once so far to me. I made a noob toon. A human, and was killing things pretty deep inside their dungeon whatever that thing is called. I ran into a pile of C/g crystals. Picked it up, there were enough crystals to fully outfit my noob human till 40 in all best gear(my toon was like 12 at the time). I then see some one run in asking about those crystals. -Now remember, this was a while ago.....

Me, being a good person then, I ask what and how much he lost. He tells me exactly. I hand it back to him and he simply runs of.

Didn't even get a **** Thank You, for returning millions worth of crystals to this guy.

Never again will I do that. If i see somethin on the ground, it's mine, and as they say, finders keepers.
Once I picked up some bw gloves in EV which a gladiator dropped. I held onto them for about 20 minutes but I began to feel sorry for him after hearing his sob story so I gave them back and guess what....

He accused me of trading them with his +3 ones BUT it didn't happen, I didn't even have BW on at all or in my inventory they were his gloves and he's like 'BUT MINE WERE +3!!!' so he didn't say thanks either.

That is the single most spoilt little brat I have ever come across.

Typical Gladiator.
I don't think this had anything to do with being foolish. He dropped the 44 million for a reason. Some players have reason to believe adena transfers are not as detectable by dropping and picking up. This was most definently illegit money drop. The person in the screenshot didn't seem like English was his first language either. So sad for him, the price he pays for not using freight.

The person in the screenshot didn't seem like English was his first language either.

That's actually, pretty irrelevant of what language they speak.

The language I 1st learned to speak wasn't English either, although it has been pushed now to a secondary language and English as the primary.
very true, plenty of French and Greeks on my server now. Different Language/not speaking English=/=Farmer.
I don't give people their things back because I expect gratitude, but because I don't want to keep them. Morals and all that, although I know that people like ignoring them in the game.

I have a reverse story for you - I was hunting in Payon Dungeon level 2 (Ragnarok Online days), looking for a kitty band, a decorative head item that a friend really, really wanted. I had been hunting for about two weeks.

I saw one drop across the screen from me to a group of obviously lower-level people and whinced innerly: No luck for me again. Then a fried egg looter monster came along and gobbled up the kitty band before that group could pick it up. They hesitated a bit but didn't attack the looter - it was obvious that they couldn't beat it.

I hated it and beat it, and they starte cussing at me. In RO, this is enough to get someone banned. They were cussing me out the entire time I fought that mob, and only fell into embarrassed silence when I returned the kitty band to them.

None of them said thank you either, or offered to even compensate me for the rather significant amount of potions I chugged recovering their rare. I never heard from them again.

My friend and I still agree, however, that it was right that I gave the kitty band back.

As luck would have it, I found my own later that day. ;)
Once, i was just sitting in giran during a siege preparation, and someone traded me 60 millions. I was pretty surprised, didn't knew that person, but just clicked ok...

Then i traded her back its 60 millions.

For not using the freight manager, what about trading between two accounts without the possibility of running two clients?

This is something that i like about these games. Once you remove the laws, the social constraints, you can really see what people are really made of.
As I said, I really have a very low spec computer, and even I can run two clients fine.
The fact that you can doesn't mean that everybody can, or even know how to do it.
If you don't know how to window-mode and/or click "launch client" twice, you don't deserve attention IMHO. ;)

I haven't met anyone in game thus far who didn't snort at my comptuer specs and asked me how the hell it was possible to run even one, nevermind 2, clients on this box. I'll believe myself not to be pretty close to the bottom of what still runs L2 when I actually meet someone who has tried (and failed) 2 clients like that. You don't even need to have them both maximised (pretty much meaning if you can run one, you can run them both).

If you don't know how to window-mode and/or click "launch client" twice, you don't deserve attention IMHO. ;)

You can remove the H...

Once again, you come with the line "if i can do it, everybody can"... of course, there is nothing more wrong. A number of technical issues could prevent you to do it, like, a CTD everytime you try to switch window. The game isn't very stable once you are in windowed mode. Depending on what equipment you have, and what drivers you use, there is always a possibility of not being able to use L2 client windowed, not even speaking of using it more than once.

And your statement that someone that doesn't know how to use two windowed vlients doesn't desserve attention is at best, ******ed. Nice attitude of yours, no doubts... "someone that doesn't know how to do something i know how to do doesn't desserve attention".
So, hitting alt+enter for window mode and clicking on minimise is difficult ... how?

I'm using an old OS (Windows 2K), which I know is often more problematic with Lin2 than others. I've also once again not heard of anyone crashing consistantly over a second minimised client (leaving them open at the same time can, indeed, present a problem - but of course, for money transfer, you don't have to do this).

And of course, if they are, they can always report and hope it gets fixed (like the explorer crash :> ).
My client crash everytime i minimize it. I have found a workaround, but not everyone is a computer tech like me.
Everyone who isn't a computer tech like you can post on these forums and get help with it, though.

Point remains: These things are already doable, there is no need to create game mechanics to address it.

My client crash everytime i minimize it. I have found a workaround, but not everyone is a computer tech like me.

Well, i'd be interested to hear about that, my L2 client crashes every time i alt+tab, minimize and maximize again !
Window-moding (as you are supposed to) before minmising seems to help most people. Tried that?
I use the desktop shortcut in the programs bar, only way for me to minimize the game without crashing. I have no problem restoring it though.

Ah, and i can't return the game in full screen mode by using alt+enter... It crash everytime, i can only do it at login screen.

And by the way it crash, i can say that the problem is probably different for many people, as we don't have the exact same system. It crashed more, and not at the same occurences, when i had an older video card.

Anyway, for such questions, i would suggest opening a thread in the technical forum.

The point was (and still is) : never assume that people don't do like you because they are dumb. Sometime, they just can't do otherwise, or just don't know how to do otherwise.
Alt-Enter for twoboxing.

As for keeping stuff, again, you really can't judge somebody for it. He didn't "do the right thing" nor did he lie cheat or decieve. It is very different from scamming. Scamming manipulates people. We're talking about somebody throwing stuff on the ground without speaking, and then complaining when he logs out and back in that it isn't still there. In the US we have many laws to protect rights of ownership, but one overwhelming factor in almost all of them is that if you make no attempt to protect your assets, it isn't anyone else's job to do so either.

Again, I don't judge people for something like this. I leave it up to their own conscience.
I said it's not something to brag about any more than scamming is, not that it's the same. My feelings towards the situation are also the same: "what an idiot to do such a thing" ('victim'), and "what does he want, a pat on the back for being mean to a ******?" to the OP.
the item has the same appearance, the tile said a crystals...i didnt knew that in l2 people used to do this.

sorry if im a correct person
i would have given it back. would you take someone's wallet if they left it at a restaurant table unattended for a minute?

i have dropped a ton of valuable stuff in this game and have almost always gotten it back from the player that picked it up. i have always given players back their stuff when they dropped too.
Depends on the situation if you ask me. Do I gladly snap up every single mispriced item I see in someones shop? **** straight I do. Do I clean up adena fields? Without a doubt. Do I train real players? Not a chance in hell. Do I go running after every red I see hoping it will pop? Nope. Did we happily pick up over 100 white parchments laying on the floor on ToI 8? Indeed we did. Do I happily train every farmer group I see, AND take thier loot? If you dont know this answer, you dont know me.

Tell me Maline, if you were standing next to an ATM machine, and it started spitting out cash, and a crowd gathered collecting up the cash, would you start grabbing, or would you call the police, or run into the establishment it belongs to and get the owner? Do you put extra money in the vending machine when it kicks out 2 bags of chips instead of one?

If I see somthing on the ground, Im going to take it. It's owner cared so little for thier item that they did not chose a safe transfer method, and that is not my problem.

I agree. I see it as stuff that the dropper no longer wanted. Me, being the nice guy that I am, will pick it up and give it a good home.

Not answering for Maline, but...I'll bite. No need to call the owner or the police. ATM's have cameras for a reason. I'm not sure of where you are, but in the States, if an ATM starts spewing out money, you are not legally entitled to it. Pocket it, and if there is any way to identify you, you can expect a call from the authorities the next day. This has happened to some patrons at my bank. They are making restitution with interest on all of the funds that they grabbed. So much for their windfall.

As for yours, good luck. Enjoy it.

This speaks to a player's personal ethics more than anything else. Some would have returned the money. Others, keep it. Right and wrong doesn't apply in L2. There is no police force to establish law and sa***uard property.

I don't know who the OP is behind the keyboard, but I hope that he/she is much more decent person in RL than in-game. After all, you could have just walked away. But that wasn't an option, eh?

Your post does make one wonder. Would you keep a Nightmare Helm if a party member who you had no affiliation with dropped it upon death? Or would return it? If the person had only dropped 10,000 adena and not 44M adena, would you have returned it? If you had indeed stumbled upon 500,000 worth of Adena Art, would you have picked that up too, or left it untouched? Just curious.

I think personally that posts like these should be blocked, closed, censored, whatever the word may be, if the intent of the OP is to simply brag. I don't applaud stupidity or those that prey on stupidity. (Enron comes to mind.)

As for the person that lost his adena, use the freight system to make any and all exchanges between your toons, if you don't have access to a second box, a reliable friend who lives up the street, or you're unable to log two clients concurrently. The risk of some other player getting your stash -- or of the server crashing while you attempt to relog -- is much higher than the cost of the 1000 adena freight. As mentioned, a fool and his money will soon part. No one will care if you continue to play the fool. Live and learn.
If you didn't read between the lines: I'm more appalled by the bragging and back-clapping than the act itself.
ok its time to reply my self again, i read all "that i'm braging" ... i don't brag about this but if i may say my self telling about this stupide act is better , this all the other thinking in doing it now know to use the freithsystem.
and yea i normaly give back stuff but it so happent to me two time i drop som gear when killed by mobs and never got it back from the other guy in fact the last guy that "stole" my +3 FP helmet putted me in his block list befor i even asked him my stuff back. so you see the game made me like this and noway in hell i return stuff to others now.
i even know guys training good players in catas but do we talk about them no wer not :/ so i brag and thats like a major offence well if it is so be it.
About 5 or 6 months ago I was hunting with my brother, an internet-friend I knew for almost 2 years and some clan mates of my brother in Forgotten Temple.
We were grinding together (we were 5) in a room for a couple of ours when suddenly I decided to leave the room and go somewhere else becouse it got boring. At that time I was a lvl ~25 Elven Wizard and more then short on money and badly equipped. Right outside the room behind an Edge I saw some materials laying and saw one of the clan mates of my brother pick them up. The system msg I saw afterwards nearly took away my breath, it read "Lupico picked up +7 Goat Head Staff". Lupico was member of the Germania Clan on Hindemith (one of the best clans I ever saw, but doesnt exist anymore) and a human Scout at that time. We all congratulated him for that more than fantastic drop and most of us havent realized at that time what he picked up there, so we were sitting in a circle in a save spot near the position we picked the loot up und chatted about it. Then someone who obviusly dropped the staff came to us and asked if we had found a +7 Goat Head Staff, but we negated that and kept it for us (what we were thinking was something like: who drops his equipped weapon and some additional materials? Only a PK could. And why should we give a PK back what he dropped?).
What finally made the day for me and my brother was that Lupico suddenly traded me short bevore we left the dungeon. First i thought it was an accident and declined the trade, but he traded me again and then he put the staff into the trade Window. What I thought first was that he wanted to show me the staff and his m.atk value, but he accepted the Trade and said (translated) "take it, you obviusly need it more than I.. and you are the only mage in the party so it's yours".
I was totally speechless and accepted, not really realizing what he did and that it was everything else than of course.
I used that staff till I hit lvl 40 and together with the manor system that was hardly used at that time it helped me alot to get my C grade gear i was dreaming of right when I hit lvl 40

Although when someone in a group drops something or a Ally or Clan mate does i would (and did) try to find it if I'm near and try to give it back. Even if someone dies and drops some armor I saw me giving it back. But a most likely equipped weapon at +7.. no chance. I cant belive any legit player at lvl ~30 has a +7 goat head staff in his inventory or equipped when hunting , and the fact that he dropped it shows that he was red with over 5PKs. That was the reason we kept it and didnt give it back.

Anything is possible.

But this my experience...

There is a difference between a PVPer and a PKer. PVPers can have PK counts as high as that. In fact, because of the way most clan retaliations are executed, and aren't necessarily established as "wars", you often see rival combatants going red all of the time. It doesn't make them PKers.

Secondly, PKers are typically delevelled melee classes, not mages. Most PKers would not choose a class as slow and as easily damaged as mages to PK anything, let alone with a Goatshead staff.

So while it is possible that you and your group were correct, it is also likely that the person whose weapon you kept was killed while trying to hunt -- an otherwise legit PVP player.

Anything is possible.

No need to explain your rationale for keeping the weapon. When the guy asked you for the staff, you could have told him boldly, "Your loss is our gain. Welcome to the World of Lineage2." No need to cower or dissemble. Just tell them to their face. We all know the rules.

But whatever you do, don't look for any lofty justification for your in-game actions. There really is no point. Your own self interest is all that matters. Someone dropped an item, you kept it. End of story. Congratz on your levels.

My only issue with this is having people brag about it on the official Forum. It's not constructive, no matter how they try to convince themselves otherwise. They should go to another website if they want to gloat. Plenty of websites out there for just that sort of thing.

Gloating perhaps. I've seen much worse. However, you can also read these kinds of posts as warnings to others. "Drop your gear and I WILL pick it up."

No doubt. Will never ever EVER party with anyone named Lifetec, that's for sure. This game has really gotten to him. Poor kid. :D

Funny, if you were partied, you would've gotten a piece of it.

Maybe, but I would have given it back...assuming I knew where the windfall came from. My toons have hard-earned and well-deserved reputations in-game; a reflection of the person that I am outside of the game. It's more important to me that everyone knows that they are dealing with a stand-up guy...because there really are far too many deceitful, shady, morally ambiguous, self-serving individuals in-game.

There, I said it. lol
Idiots like that deserve it.
