The Golden Years

As much as I'd like to distance myself from the image of some old geezer telling some misconstrued anecdote of the war, I just can't seem to do so. I enjoy Lineage 2 and all the bright, fancy, seizure inducing equipment it has to offer, but I just can't stop thinking about the old days of Lineage, when all the gear and levels and solid reputations really meant something.

I’ve made the mistake of keeping little, if any, track of my lineage 2 career, and nowadays, I really regret it, because as much fun as it is to go to Talking Island and slaughter legions of level 5’s, it just gets old, and the last time I really remember having insane amounts of fun on L2 was back in the days of prelude and C1, when you felt like a god wielding a mid D-grade weapon and a mixture of arbitrary D grade armors.

So I’d like everyone to tell their tales of the old days of Lineage 2, before the overwhelming amount of [censored] ruined the games touch, any anecdotes you guys could share of stories or events or pvp or what not that you still remember, despite all the overwhelmingly bright and massive pvp battles since.

i was lvl 10 or so on TI. back in Prelude.

some lvl 25 with a DarkElven bow goes red and is hunted down like a dog by at least 14 human melee fighters and maybe 1 mystic.

he dropped his bow tryin to power shot someone.

i ws the most scared i have ever been in my life.
Yea, I remember my second day of Closed Beta. I was in bone armor with a gladius, I thought I was such a bad ***, and then I saw a squadron of dark elves w/ dark elven bows, gunning down all the level 10's eager to get their hands on some of that D grade equipment. Man I was jealous...
i remember Light elf village was suicideland during beta.

every PK for miles around came to kill the gimpy elfs. all in d grade.

i remember in gludin one afternoon in c1 a lvl 49 orc showed up wanting to sell his Orcish Poleaxe which looked a LOT different than it does now. much nicer back then IMO. but anyway. i dont quite rember the price but i thought to myself "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep" too much :p/
I remember someone saying how much better a kite shield was compared to a bone shield and thinking WOW I gotta get one! I had that before I hit D grade mastery <.<
I could go on forever on this topic.I wasnt here in the beginning. C2 or so i showed up.wanted to play a dwarf. so i made one and went out into the world. it took me an unbelievable amount of time to get that dwarf to lvl 20. I had no idea what soul shot did. didnt use any till about lvl 23 or so. didnt even know why i had it. but the game was exciting then. I worked hard for all my gear. and thought i could handle anything in my bronze armor i worked so hard to buy. well one day i went to gludin. 5k adena to my name.didnt have money to port back home :(. so i shouted for help and someone gave me the money to go back. gludin scared me and i didnt care if i ver saw it again. but finally the time had come. i hit lvl 20. I was really excited.only took me bout 6 months. well it all changed the first time someone insulted my gear. and then the same person was nice enough to give me some brig armor. and a spiked club. i still love the game. but it lost alot of its excitement at that moment. I miss the days of being totally clueless. dying every 10 minutes. not worried about being the fastest to lvl. well that dwarf is long gone along with the 5 other toons i have rolled since then. lol this is kinda depressing.
The begining was good, there wasn't alot of anything and every thing was worth working for b/c that's the only way you could get it.

Now . . . your local chinese take out at the corner of Giran has everything that you need and if you don't have the adena they will gladly take credit.

I remember the first time I went red - some dark elf came up and hit me over and over, I was like, Hey! Stop that! (I was playing a dark elf as well). He kept on so I hit him back, he runs away (we were ni the neutral zone) towards gulido so i chase him. I finally cut him off and promptly kill him. The real excitement was when I was red. I died to a mob while watching an archer try to sneak up on me. Then I respawn in an area that I had never been to, I had no Idea where I was but I found some mobs and started working off the little bit of karma I had when someone else comes up on me. So I try to hide in some trees worried that I was about to get killed by him when he PMs me asking that I don't kill him :-)

It didn't take much longer to clean up my karma.
I remember my first trip to Cruma, back when Cruma was actually something worth doing.

I miss those days.
I remember how much everyone hated FinalBoss and wanted him to leave Giran just ONCE so that they could have a server-wide gankfest.

I remember grouping with members of Warcry on some days and Dynasty on others. Because even though the two clans fought each other tooth and nail, there were still enough cool people in both clans that you didn't have to choose sides.

I remember a plucky dwarf named Thraxis crafting my first and only Demon Staff -- long before SA's were added. Back when only a small handful of dwarfs could craft them and the only way to do so was to give them all of your mats and hope that they were honest dwarfs. No recs back then, you knew the trustworthy dwarfs by word of mouth. And more than that, I remember Thraxis letting me try on the full Avadon set while I waited for him to finish crafting my staff. Back then B grade was the highest you could go, and very few had B grade items, let alone the entire set. I was floored. I would not get another chance to wear Avadon until the next Chronicle.

I remember enchanting my Staff of Life to +6 and THAT being one of the highest enchants on the server. (A +9 Crystal Dagger was the highest at the time.)

I remember summoning the dreaded Demon King and running like hell when one of my windstrikes didn't move his HP bar at all. I died, but only because I aggroed nearby Timak Orcs that populated the area near IT and Mathilda at the time.

I remember SODA being the scariest place to group for low levels.

I remember Gludio being so densely populated with shops that your computer would crash upon porting into town.

I remember searching for Quest Monsters long before they were thusly titled.

I remember so much. Maybe it is time to get a rocking chair and sit it next to my two-boxed workstation and puff on my burlwood tobacco pipe.
First day of closed beta(well the closed beta started during the night for me but I started at the very beginning of that night), I ran out of Talking Island and I got lost thinking I was in a forest, I found some person and asked how to get back on the road, and he said follow, and went like three steps and was on it :D.

Doesn't look like a forest now, but back then, it was very scary :p.

During Closed Beta again, I saw someone had this really big sword (Sword of Solidarity 12k) and I found out how to get it. Me and my friends did the quest and thought we accomplished SOOO much, I was running to finish the quest with such happiness and pride. That sword was amazing. :D! I have one now on my character just cause me and my friends thought that was the best quest since we got to upgrade our small swords (they were actually small and crappy) and started chopping the keltirs like there was no tomorrow.
Playing as a Dark elf mystic and not knowing what adena did. Then when i found out i wanted a human tank. So i spent ages in that place on TI.... cant remember name...ER elven ruins. Selling my bronze for more then the shop price. Hunter bows being sold for 60k. All very nice. If i could go back intime i would of made a HE instead of a paladin. :(
I remember, towards the end of prelude or maybe beginning of c1, I had a human fighter on hindemith. Then, one day while on Ti, the infamous Evilseed had managed to completely lock down Ti village. A lot of people including myself would try to sneak out one way or another and would only end up getting pked again.

Another time, when i had made a de mage which eventually became my summoner, about a month into c1. (this char was on devianne since i ran out of char slots on hindemith) I was with a group of other people, hunting in the marsh just below the de village. Now, with pretty much everything yellow -> light red in there, things were going pretty well. Then i saw one of those lvl 40 tree guys, although at the time all i knew was that he was dark red. I just figured to myself "pfft, how tough can it be to go from light red to dark red" so i shot him once, bar didn't move. And i was running around, my group ended up taking the aggro off me and they slowly started dying as we were trying to kill him. Right around when there were 3 of us left, we all aggreed on one thing; run!. In the end, i was the only one to survive :D
I loved those tree guys. They should have never changed them to quest monster status. They were such a challenge and most died to them.

My first day playing, there was a group gathered down the road from Dark Elf Village. One of the more notorious players was standing there, wearing d grade I believe. Apparently this guy had ****** many people off becuase all of a sudden another player made an attempt on him.'

This was the first time I ever saw pvp in L2. The attacker was offed but came back a second time and was offed again. Was an amazing sight to see the two go back and forth, taking advantage of the surrounding rocks.

Then someone flagged on me. I turned and hit them and was downed by the notorious player in one hit.

I have to say, prelude was amazing.
Prelude did rock, I remember one time, with my fighter, with a bunch of other players, we created our own arena (arenas were brought in in c1 for those who showed up later in the game) and had a whole bunch of 1v1's. Was a really fun day :D
Ha.....Got to love the prelude days of DE raids on the LE starter village and the LEs rebeling and driving them back and if they won go to the DE village for revenge. :D
And there was always a discussion going on in shout
I'm sad now :(
