Not sure if this stuff is of interest to anyone or how accurate they are but this web page gives an analysis of subscriber numbers including very nice charts and graphs. check out the Pie chart with comparisons. Poor D&D online is slightly below Toontown. If I was Turbine I wouldn't be amused by that.
you know, just thought of that...GW isn't on there, and it can't be in the "other" section as they are always boasting 1m+ players. It is a non subscribtion game and that site only deals with subscription games. Still can't help but wonder what kind of share they would have.
Seriously, I wouldn't give it much weight on the WoW chart line. The guy who usually does this chart even said he has no valid stats sheet to compare or weight WoW numbers to except for word of mouth. Blizzard doesnt even publish a public accounting of how they do every month as well. Although, NCSOFT's chart line could be quite accurate since they DO publish actual numbers of how their subscription base is doing. I call WoW's numbers BS.

guildwars isn't a MMO thats why its not up there....
The fact remains everyone I speak about the game I play do know WoW but never heared about L2 Oo
Over here in Holland go into a random computer game shop, and try to buy L2. You can't. Most have never even heared about the game. Shelfs full of WoW, GW, whatever, but no L2
No wonder WoW controls the majority of the mmorpg market.
NCSoft has some realy marketing issues over here in Europe. That is if they even care.....
Wish we had statistics regarding the number of new subscriptions vs. bannings. Would be some telling information IMO.
Interesting to see how much subscriptions dropped when C4 was released.
Sooo.. according to information provided by NC. North American bannings alone account for approximately 17% of the drop in subscription numbers for the past year. And these bannings only occurred within the last 9 months alone.
I bet the bean counters are pretty ****** at NCNA.
Btw, for what I know, NA market for L2 is not going down, but instead, it keeps going up every mouth.. :)
It's oriental market that has some problems, mainly korea :/

Lineage 2 on the way down. <Shakes Head> I wonder what the problem is.
you dont know the problem?
ppl even here of "grind" and they will not play. simple as that.
L2 has made a name of itself in the real world. GRIND GRIND GRIND. WoW is easier to level up and players want that. Of course, you get the hard gamer and he does not want it easy. Even still thoughl, most hard core gamers know that L2 is a little beyond "grinding". And when you get to the level you need to be, L2 comes along and nerfs your character.
Incidentally, he just updated his explanation for WoW today in his analysis section.
I'm sorry but his explanations for how he got those WoW numbers are based on pure heresay. As of yet, Blizzard has not ever publicized their actual subscription numbers in any meaningful way as NCSOFT has done, by providing stats sheets on performance and all that other analytical data open to the public. I don't see why Blizzard is so afraid to do this if they truly have this much popularity going for it. He says his accuracy ratings for WoW is an "A" but thats BS. Again, he has no real, substantial and credible data to base his facts on. Until Blizzard is willing to show their actual subscription numbers on paper, I'd believe a pig can fly first.

Well, I'm sure you are right. I just posted the link people could take a look and promote discussion.
Different games appeal to different people. A game like WoW appeals to people who don't have a lot of time, like a bit of whimsical fantasy, and to essentially just have fun. For those people who have a lot of time to spend and want something with great depth, it doesn't seem to work.
All these online games really need is enough subscribers to keep paying the bills. Look at "Horizons". It really doens't have a huge subscriber base but it does have a loyal following. Now, they are releasing an expansion and have hired more people. Yet, it is a very (seemingly) small game.
Of the three friends I have that actually play video games, not a one would ever want to play L2. It simply does not off them anything that is attractive. Oh sure, they think the graphics are neat but that is it. Games like WoW would appeal to them more in that at least the quests are fun and it doesn't take up a whole day to play.
Games like this are great for L2 and other more hardcore games because it allows people to "try the water". For those who then find that they would like to sample something else they can easily migrate to other offerings.
It's obvious that non-bot subscriprtions are dropping. VERY obvious if you've been playing long at all. It's also obvious from the economy, the people we can't mention now outnumber us and prices are going nuts in inverse of adena cost. Soon they too will bail when other games pay more, then the game dies since without them there are no mats.
Games like WoW have huge appeal, less grind, more players, and you can play it for less then 3 hours at a time. Heck even every other NCsoft game has minimal grind. I just tried AutoAssault, very fast leveling up, and fast action - game is FAR from done however. GuildWars is mature and fun.
Not much NCsoft can do about it, they made the grind too hard and cater to the 8h/day player, makes a games lifespan short. I've been through about 4 other MMORPGs during this stage of a games life cycle. It's always sad to see a game I like go.

You've been playing for awhile and THIS is your assessment of the game? BS. I've been playing a very long time. Subscriptions are up. There are the same amount of farmers as there always has been. I don't know where the hell your getting your stats from about farmer population increasing. But hey, I haven't been to the lowbie areas in awhile so is that where you are referring to? I only level in the 70+ areas so I wouldn't know.
People in Lineage like it that its a hard game to reach the end game. Almost all of us know this is a hard-core game. It has gotten a lot easier since release, so all this whining is flabergasted. You want to move on, do so. Otherwise, why dont you try something productive and suggest ways to improve the game in the Game Suggestions forum?
I have a wow account too, and i believe the charts are correct, blizzard announced sometime ago in theyr main page that they reached 6mi subscribers, and also, they have 150+ servers only in NA, 500+ around the world, they opened 4 more servers last week and they just keep going up, next time this chart get updated u will se it even higher, an wanna know why? Wow is a good game, but Blizzard understand so much more of market then NC.. where do u see and advertisement about L2 that is not about Adena? 3 months ago Blizzard stopped to sell boxes again because actually there was too many players.
Enter on theyr main page and u will see a link to "Recruit a Friend", actually, i can invite 5 people to play WoW, and if they like and buy the game, i get one month free, so, inviting 5 people i can get 5 months free.. have u ever seen NCSoft doing something like this?
WoW is a good game, L2 too, the difference is that Blizzard make shure that people know about theyr game, also, WoW and L2 have differente playstyles.

Hey little boy. When you understand how the corporate world works then talk to me. No public disclosures means jack [censored] on whatever Blizzard has got to say. If they really want to prove their numbers are as they say they are, they will be more than willing to share their financial information with the public.

First, im not a boy, try to show some respect to other people.
Why do u think that they keep opening new servers? Or why u tink that they announced that they have 6mi players? Do u Think they create a QUEUE on theyr servers just to let people think they have a lot of players? Believe in what u want, fact is that probably no other mmo will have so many subscribers, wow was such a success that Warner is going to make a movie about it.
Im not here saying wich is the better game, L2 is a good game, but NCSoft need to make people know that this game exists, if u understand so much about "corporate" maybe u know about this.
I talk about Lineage for my friends and they never heard about it, so, probably something is wrong, isnt it?
This is a bit of a tangent. A lot of you are saying how much more WoW advertises. A few months ago I saw a WoW advertisement on DailyKos (a liberal american blog). Most of the ads are for all sorts of liberal stuff, and there...was WoW. lol. Environmentalism, some democrat candidate, and a big orc?!?! What?
I tried WoW, didn't like it. But looking at my gaming group's web forums (the older gamers), WoW has 8340 threads. L2 has 2390. And L2's been out how much longer? I can believe the WoW numbers.
What surprised me the most from the latest chart was the numbers for DDO. Wow....what a flop! That should have been a big game.
