In all the forum posts about newbies and farmers and what-not, I remembered something/someone to whom I owe a debt of gratitude.
Does anyone know a mystic character named "GhostDancer"?
Have never seen this player since February--don't know clan (I started in Jan and by Feb still didn't know what clan tags were or where they came from)--don't know class--can't recall gear.
What I DO know is that I was quitting that day in February. I had reached lvl 20 3 times in the past 3 hours--I was killed each time by roving griefers/bored players.
I was standing in TI and literally deciding to quit when I got 16 buffs from this guy. I was amazed! I typed something like "ty--only good thing that's happened to me today"....he actually took 2 minutes to give a crap.
He laid those buffs on me 3 or 4 times that evening as he ran around and we passed while I was hunting. His 5 minutes of attention is the only reason I didn't quit. The next day some dwarf gave me 50 lesser healpots and a bronze shield just to be nice--sadly I can't recall his name.
I try to help other new players now hoping to give others a boost like the little ones I got.
So to whomever you are, Ghostdancer--thank you. I'm sure you have no idea how depressed with L2 I was that day. If you know this player please pass along my thanks.
I'm curious.....Any others with examples of someone helping them out when they were new?
I was blessed with lots of nice players from the start. One of my first days I grouped with a DE player for an hour or so and that person is still a friend to this day.
I had one player whom I never met buy me a Zweihander and the Bone armor set when I was level 10! (Ovasan, whom I think left a while ago)
I had another player, an SO, give me a bunch of buffs outside DE Vilage and also spend a few minutes giving me some playing tips. I forget her name but she was in the SilverFangs (IIRC) clan. If you search , though, I thanked these people when it happened on the forums in November.
I hade another very nice LE show me around Dion and explain the 7 Signs to me, must have spent an hour introducing me to friends and the game.
I have helped out a couple newbies the same although nothing big as I don't have much to give out. But it is true, all those people above and more are the reasons I am still playing. It's all about the people!
I could never repay my debts to GMB. He's done so much as a leader, he put his alliance and clan first always before himself. GMB has given BBW and Invincible everything and by that I mean fun. Could never repay him for all the fun that we've had over the the two years of playing L2.
The two people that got me hooked on this game I owe tremendous thanks to (or maybe I should curse them. -grin-). If it weren't for their help in game, I would still be in D-grade. -laughs-
And countless friends, from my first clan (sadly, now dispersed), to my current clan. I would never be able to be an EE without any of them!
I know how it feels to have had someone show kindness when everything else seems dark.
There is no way I could ever pay back the people that helped me when I first came to Lionna. But then, in my own way, I think I have instead carried it with me, passing on that kindness when I think it is warranted.
Yep, same story here, actually, a griefer was the one that helped me! After he pk'd me, he felt bad because I laughed it off and didn't get mad, and gave me a full set of Bronze and bunch of cash.
The same night, another stranger gave me a Zweihander in a dungeon because he saw I was new and struggling. That is when I decided to stay on Lionna permanantly.
There are....I don't know how many people I can thank for simple buffs, let alone helping me with gear, and dealing with my...jumpiness. Though, I've settled down with characters now, and still try to be independent. TRY!!
