DSS

Why, all of a sudden, are we seeing D Grade SoulShot prices skyrocket from what used to be 11a, or 10a if you met a fair guy, all the way up to 46a? 51a? I saw one girl trying to sell DSS seriously for 71adena apiece.

Even those selling for 13/14a are unfair- 12a is more understandable (after all, a guy's gotta make a profit) but then, honestly, DSS costs, what, 8a to make?

What is going on? I don't understand it- sure, the prices on most things have risen, but come on... 6000 DSS would, in C4, have cost me 60-70k maximum. now I have to struggle to find 6k DSS for less than 90k. It adds up quite fast.

And for new people finding their way into D Grade, they can't find fair prices on things like that, and so they level much, much slower than they would with an ample supply. Considering this is so not a game for newbies, one might think that people would be anxious to get new players up to par? Why, with the added pressure of such advanced players (people playing since like CI and II) being around anyway, must it be made more difficult?

Can anyone shed some light please?
13 or 14a is a perfectly acceptable price for DSS - you would make more money out hunting in the time it took you to craft the DSS, so why bother making them if you don't get a fair profit?

51, 52 or 71 are obviously scammers and best ignored.
There's money to be made by making DSS?

A whoaping 2-3a per SS is not exactly riches extravaganza, plus w/o a Recharger (or a 2boxer) it's painfuly slow and horrendous to craft them 6k DSS.

But yeah, anything over 15a per Dss is either a scam(not so much with 16a per ss) but 50+ per Dss is a scam.
fair profit I agree with, but what was wrong with the fair profit that countless dorfs got from 11a?

sure, there are still some nice guys out there, but everyone begins selling at 13-16a each, and I just get poorer :( lol. but I complained to a guy who was selling for 41a, and he agreed with me that it was ridiculous, and traded me 5k DSS free.

If everyone, including the sellers, agree its sheer robbery, and have amounts like that to give away (he could have made another 50-60k from selling that 5000 for a better price) why is it still happening?
I just told you - if you sell DSS for 11a, you get more money if you use that MP on worthless dwarf stuns in PvE. There is such a thing as profit per time, and I assure you that DSS does not provide it.
You should be happy there are dwarves still crafting that market dog.....

This always makes me laugh (sorry).

Nearly everyone on this forum 'plays the market'....essentially saying "buy MY stuff at inflated prices cause it's mine and I need the money........sell YOUR stuff really cheap cause I want it but don't want to spend money"

I don't know how you can even post that without blushing.

If you find a recipe--dss drop tomorrow what you gonna do with it, sparky? Give it to the first dwarf you pass?
You're gonna SELL it--probably for around 50k.......a free drop that fell on the ground. I've seen those dss recipes selling for 100k.

Pay the going rate or don't use dss--or if you think 12 or 13 is such a scam...you can have a dwarf making dss in a couple/three days....go make your own. You'll make darned few dss before you get a calculator and figure out your costs!!!!
Personally I would set my prices like this:

1. Calculate an average of the money I would make, when hunting for about 10 hours. Substract cost for porting, potions and SS used. (Value A)
2. Calculate the ammount of D-SS I could sell in 10 hours on average. (Ammount B)
3. Calculate the costs for those D-SS in material. (Value C).

Obviously my price per D-SS would be (A+C)/B per D-SS. If that is 11a so be it, but if it is 12a, then it is a fair price, and if I can make so much money in 10 hours, that (A+C)/B is 20a, then by all means, I should sell for 20a, or I will make less profit, than not selling.

Also, while hunting, I would gain exp. While crafting and selling, I will not gain exp. So at even values, hunting is better than selling.

Selling obviously is something to be done, while AFK. Crafting however cannot be done AFK.
For that see the suggestions board, suggestion by me named "Automated Crafting".

Scavenging Kitten
On average, I sell between 11 and 12 adena for my DSS. This makes me a decent profit (and I generally sell out 10k or more in one shot), and I craft in my downtime when I'm trolling forums or what have you.

To those who say you cannot make a profit, I disagree. You just can't make as big a profit as other things.

There are 100 Pennies in 1 Dollar.
There are 20 Nickels in 1 Dollar.
There are 10 Dimes in 1 Dollar.
There are 4 Quarters in 1 Dollar.
There are 2 Half(dollars) in 1 Dollar.

Guess which of these options is for Crafting DSS.....
Oh, I agree it's a small profit. However, I started with 100k adena gathered from drops and quests.

I am sitting just underneath 1m in two-weeks of shot crafting and sales. 10k at a time, 12 adena each (11 if I'm feeling generous).

So yes, I make a profit, and I do a service to the <40 community who are hooked on the use of shots (That's right. First hit is free).

So no, I don't mind that it's not a huge profit.
it is good for the 20-40 players, that people like exist, but noone should blame the Warsmiths, who rather go onwards to more profitable ways (like subclassing a nuker).

Warkitten
Well, I agree with the kitten.

My artisan is in no rush to level, since most of my attention is spent on my SE.

So, in my downtime, I pop over and craft until my fingers bleed. And, I understand I'm starting to develop a reputation. Maybe Warsmith isn't looking too bad after all...
Depends on where my Dorf sells his DSS at

14a-15a a shot in Gludin is a fair price. AS you would have to run all the way to Dion for 12a price and spend 14k in ports or an hour running. So stop whining and make your own Dorf.
Actually, I'd guess when you see 54.. it should be d-bsps. It probably isn't (<3 scammers) but that's what he's trying to convince you it is. (OR it's what he meant to sell.)
Prices for d-grade crystals have risen dramatically and also many of the sources of getting cheap d-grade crystals (for 300a and less) have totally dried out now.

So yes, its very little worth for people to make this, and the profit gets less and less the further you get up
300a...? Wow. o_O

It should have gotten more, what with all the keymats from raids - I suppose people are just pulling the prices up. :>
I get my ore at 275. Dunno about you guys.

fair profit I agree with, but what was wrong with the fair profit that countless dorfs got from 11a?

It was a crappy profit.

I stopped selling DSS because it wasn't worth it and instead sold DSPS and BDSPS because at least I would make a little more money for my effort.

DSS for 12 was the only way I could actually make enough to at least justify the effort. Would have loved to goi 13 but then everyone would have complained and started yelling scammer (which did happen once) etc. So I just stopped and decided that people can make their own DSS, I'm out of the business.
First, you could use the craft shops for making your own DSS. They are usually in Giran. You will have to get the D Crystals, but you can buy the Soul Ore. You have to pay a fee to craft each batch of 156 DSS tho.

Second, create an artisan dwaft alt to make your own shots. Artisans can buy D gear and crystalize, and craft the DSS directly. Your cost should be 10a to 12a each, depending on your tax rate. If you 'twink' him/her, you can level to 20 pretty fast.

I craft DSS on my alt when I'm doing other things (paying bills, cleaning, laundry) coming back to the comp to click through all the MP that has regen'ed since the last break. I make 1 adena per shot, so it is more of a community service than a money-making endeavor.

The folks selling for 41a to 71a... Are way out of line.

10 is generous, not "fair", but that aside...71a just isn't a normal price. It's a joke or a scam.

Even those selling for 13/14a are unfair- 12a is more understandable (after all, a guy's gotta make a profit) but then, honestly, DSS costs, what, 8a to make?

9.57a each to make in Giran at a 5% tax rate. That's why I say 10a is generous, he's making practically nothing (and, at much over 5%, might actually be losing money).

The price for making DSS is a constant, other than the tax rate, because all the required items are easily available from NPC's. If your price is rising, you have a shortage of people crafting them compared to people buying them. Roll an Artisan and clean up until the prices fall back to 11-12a.

Honestly, just make the Artisan anyway. See how the other side lives. Understand why even 11a is practically giving them away.
You can have the best of both worlds.

I grap about 500 seeds and go seeding. Once I log on I make all the DSS I have the MP for. Seed and harvest till MP is back up then make DSS again. Unless you forget to watch your MP bar there is no way you can use more DSS then you make. By the time I am done with the seeding I have around 15 to 20K in DSS. Turn in harvest then sit and sell DSS and harvest and go to bed. Wake up and see how much you made. lol
PS. You also get adena drops when you seed so you make money and gain XP while you make DSS.

This is probably the only way to make DSS where it's worth the bother. Hell it's prolly the only way to make D,C, or B SS where it's worth the bother.

Why waste the MP crafting SS for so little when you could craft BSPS with that same MP and make more profit?

 Hey correct me if Im wrong,,but last week on my server the tax rate in Giran was at 7%...up from the normal 5%. Actually I noticed it a maybe more than a week ago, and have not bought ore since, {I had stocked up previously..Im a horrible pack rat sometimes :)} Don't know if thats changed this week or not, but noteing the change has made me start to check more often before just buying ore in Giran. I had noticed the climb in DSS price as well as for C & B not to mention Crystals. Most likely one of the cause's imo, as similar to other posters here I craft my own shots or get gear to crush for my summoner,, "cost" are up.

Its a terrible thing to be berated in game by 20-30 level players in Gludio/Gludin, when you are trying to at least supply them at 12a. Some players can hold the pricing line, of lower cost and I admire thier skill at obtaining/reserving thier lower cost materials for times like these. Yet as others note,,when accusations happen,,I just move on to other markets.

;)
Just checking, but you do know that players set the tax rate, right? So it can change regularly...

Yep :) I understand this. That said, for a very long time Giran was pretty constant at 5%. The increase of 2% was a great play by the owners. Well done and well within thier rights. Im sure they have cost also,,hey they could have gone higher. I really didn't notice until I went to do a volume buy on ore. Im not complaining, just noteing the difference as possible explanation for rising cost.
