Player Questions Started Last reply 27 posts
Hi.

I just started a 14 day trial, and I have some questions...

I keep reading on the boards that the end-game is basically controlled by bots/farmers, and NCsoft is unable/unwilling to really bring them under control, so lots of high level players are leaving the game in frustration. How bad is the end game? Is it really dying? How much are Castle Sieges and Boss raids ruined? And is Bartz (any other servers?) truly a lost cause?

I would really like to play a game that has lots of teaming as early as possible. I read that you really start to team up with other people at like level 20 onward (does this include support characters)? How much is teaming up to do quests (or anything, really) done in this game? (I was shocked when I joined WoW to realize that in that game, you only team in dungeon crawls/raids, and the occassional Elite quest. The vast majority of game time, you solo.) In CoH/CoV, if you wanted to, you could team from the very early levels, all the way until you rerolled. I'd much perfer teaming.

Which type of magic user is in more demand from teams - offensive or support? Are support characteres expected to be heal-bots only in this game? I'd prefer to mez the enemy with holds/roots/etc if I played a support...

I would guess a support character, if unable to find a team, would get xp soloing a lot slower than an offensive caster. But by how much? Is it even worth playing/soloing if a support character can't find a group (log and try again later?)

I understand that PK'ing is a problem for new characters. Is the PKing so bad that I really lose entire levels while trying to play this game?

I heard that player avatars from the same race all basically look alike. Is that true at all levels, or just the beginning when nobody can buy different looking armor?

Do I, as a new player, have a relaistic chance of getting reasonable amounts of gold/adena in later levels without e-baying/multiboxing/botting - because I plan on doing none of those things.

I think I can play like 2-3 hours a day for like 3-4 days per week. Is that enough to get to the endgame content in a reasonable amount of time? If I don't reach endgame content, would farmers/bots bother me less often?

This game is 2 years old - is it too late for a new player to really get into things? I heard clans only recruit at 40+ - do many new players get that high without clan support until then?

Are the server personality posts current? Hindemith looks cool, and by the post count on the forums, seems really active. It pings well too, which is a plus. :)

Thanx in advance - just trying to figure out as fast as possible whether to start the long learning curve for this game...

(Sorry for the long post - didn't know to make a long post, or lots of little ones...)
Welcome to Lineage....

Give it a bit, someone should be chiming in on your post today.
Some aspects of the end game are controlled by unmentionables (saying their name almost always = thread lock.) Raid bosses are locked down or nearly so on most servers, a lot of areas are possessed by our automated friends. The diligent player belonging to a good clan can always find something.

By far the fastest way to level is to get up to about 25, and start lf raid group. These lower level raids give 200-400k xp per kill, which can be as much as 75%, depending on your level.

The casters most in demand for groups tend to be healers and buffers. There are a lot of complaints that 2box buffjobs are stealing the market on parties for real buffers, but this isn't always true. If you play your class well, and your class is needed, you're nearly always in demand. The same goes the opposite way, however. Play your class badly, and nobody needs you.

The offensive mage classes tend to solo/duo a lot, except for raid bosses. If you want to level quickly, make a SpellHowler (Dark Elf Wizard) and find a Shillien Elder (Oracle) and make them your best friend.

Yes, support levels solo slower than offensive caster. How much slower? offensive 2 shots mobs for ~2k damage each while support has to get a weapon and whack on them for 80-100 damage. The up side is that you do get your own buffs, so if you think you'll be soloing a lot, look at the buffs you'll get as each class and decide which you'd rather have.

All the players look alike. There's about 3 faces, 6 hair colors, and 6 styles for each race. As you get higher level they actually start to look more alike, since there are fewer armor choices.

I've lost track of what I answered and what I haven't.

As negative as this sounds, I actually love this game and my boyfriend is jealous of it :)

Good luck.. repost or pm me with any more questions.

PS thanks for the heads up splatter :)

Wow, there are aspects of this game that can't even be TALKED about? That's nutz!

How long does a raid last for, typically?

So DE ftw (as far as casters go?)

I've lost track of what I answered and what I haven't.

LOL, don't worry about it, I know I threw a lot out, just trying to get info ASAP and I just threw out everything after skimming the boards. TYVM for all the info you did give. :)

Good luck.. repost or pm me with any more questions.

Heh, you'll be ssssooorrrryyy you offered ;) If I play like 2-3 hours a day for like 2-3 days a week, will I advance at an OK rate? Do farmers/bots control the end game, so I should avoid the end game and NOT shoot for the higher levels?
First let me say to the responders please do not get off on a automated player rant. He has some decent quuestions here and I'd hate for this thread to get locked or deleted.

You will most likely not see anyone in the noob starter village capable of speaking to you. When you hit lvl 15 and are in Gludin you will begin to group with the occasional person and begin to make a friend here or there. That is between all the PKing that will happen to you. Your best bet is to try to join a clan that is good about grouping. Don't just join either. Instead add them to your friends list and party with them for a week or so. See if you and them are on the same page. If they are worth anything they will understand this and not just auto add you to their clan. Once you see if you will get along well, have the same game values, and you like how much they party together and help each other out then you can decide if you want to join.

Don't sweat the PKing. Its going t o happen, dont get angry and start shouting , dont threaten them in PMs, just take it in stride. At sub 30 levels skill points are usually lacking. Just think of the PKing as a way to help you gain SP so you can learn skills appropriate for your lvl.

There is little variation when creating your toon. I was dissapointed with the limited toon customization available. 5 min tops creating the look of your toon due to cookie cutter limited selections. Depending on your class you will probably *probably* choose the same armors because of set bonuses available as the others of your race and class at that lvl. Not always tho.

Adena is difficult, but it surely can be done without e-baying or being automated. Use the manor for sure, try not to use Soul Shots/Spirit shots. Think of them as a PvP tool, not a everyday use tool. Learn market prices and play the market by buying low and selling high. You will have an easier time of this if you are capable of setting up afk-buy/sell shops while your at sleep or at work/school. I have noticed that untaged toons get better business, so I keep one lvl 1 toon with zero XP for buying and selling. Learn what quests are good take as many as you can and try to get quests that over lap hunting areas. Reading forums and player guids will help.

If you get in a good clan or make good friends you will be able to get partys and level up good. It took me a year to hit A grade. There are people in the server that have already subbed and hit A grade for the second possibly 3rd time. So your "end game" is a ways off for you, but if your clan helps a lot you can definately have a boost to getting to A grade staus and may come faster than it did for me. It took me a year, but I also took 1-2 month breaks at various times. If you stick with it you will definatly get there faster than me.

My Spell Howler hit lvl 40 before anyone knew I had her. I doubt my Destroyer could have done that. Some classes can get to 40 with no help, others need it. I don't think its too late to start at all.

These are just my opinions and I am sure others will pipe up with more correct, acurate, or even just different perspectives on all this. I say just play and see how it goes. Try not to form much of an opinion until your 20+ and just disregard everything that happend to you the short time you were in non grade. And again hook up with a good clan. A good clan with good communication (Active alliance chat, active forums, and a vent server) will make the game - it did for me. The Guardian Knights on Gustin have been great. Semper Fi!

Also if you are able to play with people you know in real life the game will be even better. My wife and I play together and a good long time friend from work and her husband play too. This summer my wife Trovan and I will fly from South Carolina to Canada to spend a weekend fishing with several of my clan mates that live there. Having real friendships makes your playtime in the game better.

(I only answered some of your question cause I don't have answers for the rest :P )

I would guess a support character, if unable to find a team, would get xp soloing a lot slower than an offensive caster. But by how much? Is it even worth playing/soloing if a support character can't find a group (log and try again later?)

Yues, a suporting character will have a slower time leveling solo then ofencive mage or archer, or many of meles. It will get harder and harder with lvls. Some suport mages can do better in solo. For example orc mages, and especialy War Cryer sinch he got better buffs. Profet in proper set up can do fine solo as well.

I would really like to play a game that has lots of teaming as early as possible. I read that you really start to team up with other people at like level 20 onward (does this include support characters)? How much is teaming up to do quests (or anything, really) done in this game?

There is allot of grouping in this geme for most classes. Some classes prefere to solo (attacking mages and archers, mostly). Others are WAY better of in party.
The thing with lower level partying is that there are not as many lower level players to party with and lower levels are realy fast to go through so those who are low levels are fast to leave starting areas.

Which type of magic user is in more demand from teams - offensive or support? Are support characteres expected to be heal-bots only in this game? I'd prefer to mez the enemy with holds/roots/etc if I played a support...

Often enoughf suports also do crowd controler role in parties. Some, especialy at lower levels also have a fighter wearpons and join in fighting when their mana permits it.

I understand that PK'ing is a problem for new characters. Is the PKing so bad that I really lose entire levels while trying to play this game?

I never experienced anything like this. It was like that in past cronicles when there was not much high end content and high level players were becoming bored they created PK toons. I played from late september and only got PKed 2 or tree times. My latest toon was created in april or so, she havent seen a single aggro Pk.

I heard that player avatars from the same race all basically look alike. Is that true at all levels, or just the beginning when nobody can buy different looking armor?

It is like that at higher levels as well, becouse there are a few armor sets in higher grade and majority preferes to get a best fitting to their class. How ever over last few Cronicles (expantions) they added a bit of items for customising your's toon. So they are going in right direction with this, just at a slow pace.

Do I, as a new player, have a relaistic chance of getting reasonable amounts of gold/adena in later levels without e-baying/multiboxing/botting - because I plan on doing none of those things.

It is quet posible. Hey i did it, why cant you %).

This game is 2 years old - is it too late for a new player to really get into things? I heard clans only recruit at 40+ - do many new players get that high without clan support until then?

No not realy, the lower levels go by FAST. you can get to 20 (first profesion change) in a few weeks even if you dont play much. And there are a few clans who let people in from lvl 20. Also in next Cronicle (large update) which is most likely due in a few month there will be additions motivating to invite lower level's into clan.

Are the server personality posts current? Hindemith looks cool, and by the post count on the forums, seems really active. It pings well too, which is a plus.

I think they are prety recent, well my server description prety much shows the true info.

Thanx in advance - just trying to figure out as fast as possible whether to start the long learning curve for this game...

You are welcome

If I play like 2-3 hours a day for like 2-3 days a week, will I advance at an OK rate? Do farmers/bots control the end game, so I should avoid the end game and NOT shoot for the higher levels?

Your play time should be fine. Should you get addicted enough you'll play more anyway lol :) Unmentionable *players* do not *control* the game, but have a huge influence on it... prices, certain items needed.. stuff like that.

Hi.

I just started a 14 day trial, and I have some questions...

I've been playing pretty steadily since Open Beta, and despite not having a character in the 7x range yet I'll offer what answers I can.

Depending on the server you decide to play on, the whole farmer/bot thing can be mild to heavy. Certain bosses like Baium are currently heavily farmed, but with Raid boss changes coming in C5 they may be gone by the time you reach the level needed to fight them.

The starter areas are pretty empty right now. So although you can team from the start, most of the time you will solo Levels 1-20. (With the new buffs these will go very fast.) Once you hit L20, first class change and move out of the starter areas you will start to encounter much denser numbers of people. Note this also means that you also have a better chance of running into Griefers and Pkers. (The frequency of their presence is largely server dependent.) Most clans have chars in the 60ish range in general, but good ones will recruit low levels and help them out. (With help levels up to B grade can go pretty fast.)

Which type of magic user is in more demand from teams - offensive or support? Are support characteres expected to be heal-bots only in this game? I'd prefer to mez the enemy with holds/roots/etc if I played a support...

Most of NA is waiting on the final C5 changes to hit...some big changes in balance are supposed to be coming down the pipe then. C5 is live in Korea and already things are being 'rebalanced' as the Koreans respond to the changes.

As for now, there are a lot of 'boxed' buffers/Healers. A live buffer/healer is almost always welcome though.

Nukers are currently the 'overpowered' class, and as such are pve leveling machines with a boxed recharger/buffer. For groups it depends on who your with. Nukers can crowd control w/sleep while healers and buffers are more in demand for melee or mixed parties. In general most nukers seem to solo more until late game or in the dungeons. Then again most nukers right now are rerolls or subclasses and have plenty of money from their 'main' to support their equipment and shots for fast leveling.

I would guess a support character, if unable to find a team, would get xp soloing a lot slower than an offensive caster. But by how much? Is it even worth playing/soloing if a support character can't find a group (log and try again later?)

It's doable, but can be very slow. Not all support classes are good at solo, just better than others. Orc Mystics are the best at it, Bishops probably the least. The rest are somewhere in between those. It isn't a instant end to your night if you don't have a group, but the downtime is definately a factor. (ie Even Bishops have an undead "nuke" but it uses significantly more MP than your heals would per kill. Thankfully, you really don't need a huge 'group' to xp well. You and one other person is usually enough to go out and kill easy mobs at a good clip.

I understand that PK'ing is a problem for new characters. Is the PKing so bad that I really lose entire levels while trying to play this game?

When you die (pk or otherwise) you lose xp. At lower levels this is about 8%. Below L40 this is probably no more than an hours worth of killing. (Dropping any of your equipment is a far, FAR greater problem if it happens.) Unless your dying repeatedly to pkers its a minor blip if anything at all. For some characters need for SP or certain drops means they will intentionally delevel to get what they need. Although the % loss is pretty minor below L60ish you can lose equipment masteries if you go below the level threshhold. (20/40/52/61 etc.) Otherwise you have to lose over 10 levels to lose any skills. (Only an issue if you are intentionally deleveling a big # of levels.)

As for the PK'ers...some servers are worse than others. Most of the time you will only see them in certain areas for short periods of time. (Lots of High levels have lowbie alts...and like to keep them nearby.) Chances are you will see them only occasionally from L20-L40 and above that you will only see reds as part of clan wars. (newbie lands have lots of roaming guards to cut down on pkers in those areas.)

I heard that player avatars from the same race all basically look alike. Is that true at all levels, or just the beginning when nobody can buy different looking armor?

Somewhat true for all levels. You have a choice of gender, face, hair style and hair color and that's about it for the character itself. The higher in levels you go the fewer armor choices you get curently though. There are some 'accessories' which alter you character looks, and more coming. But they are usually fairly expensive.

In practice however, there are enough different races and combinations of looks that the level of 'sameness' never truly stands out.

Do I, as a new player, have a relaistic chance of getting reasonable amounts of gold/adena in later levels without e-baying/multiboxing/botting - because I plan on doing none of those things.

Find a good clan and it's not a huge problem....if your doing everything solo it can be. The money Grind in L2 is the harshest thing you will ever see. It's not impossible to overcome, but you can expect to spend a good portion of time trying to make cash instead of levels.

I think I can play like 2-3 hours a day for like 3-4 days per week. Is that enough to get to the endgame content in a reasonable amount of time? If I don't reach endgame content, would farmers/bots bother me less often?

You can probably do 1-20 easily in about a week or two no problem. Once you run out of the newbie buffs things slow down as it gets harder to get better equipment though. How hard/costly things are depends on your class. Again C5 changes in the pipeline are supposed to make things easier if you have/want to solo.

Seriously though, don't be in such a huge rush to reach the 'endgame'. L2 is not meant to be a big XP rush. Take your time and get used to the game. If you find a clan you like and want to pvp more, they can usually help you level pretty darn fast with buffs and AOE groups and such. Otherwise just getting a group/duo going for the weekend is enough to level fast on its own.

This game is 2 years old - is it too late for a new player to really get into things? I heard clans only recruit at 40+ - do many new players get that high without clan support until then?

Most good clans will recruit any levels. BUT, since gear is so expensive and most clans don't want to waste their time on someone who isn't going to stick with them (or the game!) they will usually only recruit higher level characters since that shows at least a minimum amount of dedication to the game.

For most classes (even the healer/buffers) getting to L40 isn't to bad. It might take more time, but it's not bad compared to the post L40 stuff!

The server personality posts are moderately useful. Servers with high populations tend to have a larger complement of PK'ers and bots although they exist on all servers. If anything just browsing the server forums here and on other fan sites is a fair indication of the most vocal players on each server.

pm me with any more questions.

I have questions, too. Lots and lots of questions...

I'll take chocolate chip, since you were about to ask.

To the OP: any thoughts on a server? I can help get you going on Hinde.

Out of all the MMO's I've played/tryed, SWG has THE most customizations available to a toon.

Guess what, they all suck. I'd much rather have an L2 style customization than SWG. :p
SWG was great for customization. So was E&B. You really had control over skin color, and small details, even how fat or thin you wanted to look. It was great I loved it.
Really? I thought everything about SWG character customization sucked, cause in the end the face still looked very much the same. Ofcourse I was only messing the the Humans so have no idea about other species.
at high lvls nukers aren't the only ones that are good at soloing.

archers make a great solo class, and tend to lvl faster then nukers sometimes, the hawkeye (humin archer) is geting a lot of new things in C5.. I saggust that you go to the libary and read about the classes and what they do. then you get a idea of what you want to be.

when it comes to money, at high lvls nukers make out like a bandet, but thats probably going to change in C5. (do to making it harder on nukers to lvl)

I'd recumend that you make two alts. one thats a healer, and one thats a dwarf, Warsmith is good, and I say this for making money only.

Useing a healer to make money is great cause once you got soeme good robes and one good weapon thats all you need, and sometimes blessed shots for heals, but then you never have to buy other consumeables, so they are all about the money making.

The dwarf WS is good for overnight craft shop (dwarven craft), or buy sell shop. one reason is cause dwarfs can buy or sell more things at one time then any of the other races.
First off, welcome to the wonderful world of Lineage 2.
I am a bit noobish myself as I have only been playing for 5 months.

Without ebaying, I have got 2 toons to B-grade a lvl 56 Phantom Ranger (archer) and a lvl 59 Tyrant (melee).

With both characters I could easily solo, but grouping is alot more fun and sometimes u get faster xp due to party buffs.

Yes there are bots in the game on all servers. I can only tell u about my server Sieghardt. It is a good server. We have PKers, but we also have lots of high level clans that do not tolerate the griefing and usually will kill a griefer if he goes red.

The bots do suck, but u have 3 choices. One, ask them to leave the area with a /gm threat (it actually works sometimes). The second is get in a party and kill them off. Sometimes, they will just leave or 3rd move on to another area.

The bots are there just like in every other mmo with a player based economy. I came over from SWG before the brilliant game was destroyed (i will not get into that now-but SWG was the most complete and amazing mmo lol).

From level 1-20 if u leveled for about 8 hours straight u could probably do it with most classes. Most ppl solo thru these levels because it is the quickest way to get xp.

Once u hit 20 head over to the town of Dion. There u get the bulk of the middle level class levels (20-40ish) forming raid partys. All u have to do is ask to join. If u go healer buffer, you are almost guaranteed an invite. Yes , there are ppl that have their own private buff bot, but real buffers are always welcomed and sometimes actually preffered. It is alot safer to have a real life dedicated healer than someone playing 2 toons. The buff bot ppl are basically there to level themselves quickly without partying.

The end game, actually looks good. I have my 59 orc and I have yet to scratch the surface of the game. I am going to my first seige this weekend (woot).

To make money , every time u play, set aside 10-15 minutes and browse the market place. Find items u can afford and flip them. For example, I started with enchant armor d grade scrolls. I would find someone selling them for 50k adena and then sell them for 80k. Yes this works and works great. Just use this concept as u build up your adena and move up int the market. Before I go to bed, I take the deals that I made earlier and then sell for a profit while I sleep.

You will want to strive for high level. I did. Sure I have been pk'd a few times, but no sweat just jot the pkers name down and save the revenge for later.

Take care and welcome once again. It is alot of fun especially if u decide to get into a good clan that is active.

their is a 4th :), get a high lvl bh and train them till they die and drop/forcelog/leave either way i win Xd

Because of the good ping and high post count in its specific forum, I picked Hindemith. I'm a L10 DE Mystic. (The new-game-smell is fading, so I won't be able to maintain my current level of play.) I'm still torn between offensive and support caster, though.
Dryad Root says "Instantly throws an enemy into a state of hold." In CoH/CoV, a hold = can't move/take any action. But I have a feeling 'Root' means just immobolise (they can't travel, but can still do stuff). Do you know which it is?

I was all excited about all the skills you get per level, then I figured out that the SP means you spend it per skill you get - it's not a 'level' of SP required. So there's no way I can get every skill that I'm high enough to get.

Are support characters only heal bots? I would perfer to get as few healing skills as possible, and just get mez/party buff skills...

at high lvls nukers aren't the only ones that are good at soloing.

archers make a great solo class, and tend to lvl faster then nukers sometimes, the hawkeye (humin archer) is geting a lot of new things in C5.. I saggust that you go to the libary and read about the classes and what they do. then you get a idea of what you want to be.

Yep. I looked at archers, but they didn't seem to have any flashy powers (eye candy = good LOL) or ranged crowd control besides Confusion. They seemed to be just one-dimentional damage-damage-damage. If I'm wrong, please tell me, but that's what it seemed...

I'd recumend that you make two alts. one thats a healer, and one thats a dwarf, Warsmith is good, and I say this for making money only.

Nah, too much for me, one character at a time plse (well, as soon as I decide between a nuker/support...) :)

Useing a healer to make money is great cause once you got soeme good robes and one good weapon thats all you need, and sometimes blessed shots for heals, but then you never have to buy other consumeables, so they are all about the money making.

You get money as a heal-bot? Um... heal-bots charge money for heals? Or do I totally not get what you mean?

The dwarf WS is good for overnight craft shop (dwarven craft), or buy sell shop. one reason is cause dwarfs can buy or sell more things at one time then any of the other races.

Nah, I'm not in to leaving my comp on overnight/when I'm away from home. Too paranoid. :)

So the only way to do the economic thing in this game is to leave the computer AFK for x hours a night? There's no WoW auction-house equivalent where I can log off?

How much slower money wise would it be if I tried to buy/sell while I was playing?

Take care and welcome once again. It is alot of fun especially if u decide to get into a good clan that is active.

Thanx. :) The interface seems crude (no customizing keys for instance), but it does seem good so far. Cant wait till I get into the clan/clan stuff.

I take it people get into clan vs clan fights/territory stuff before end game/castle sieges?
If I didn't thank you individually (which is most :(), just wanted to say thanks to all for posting so much stuff. Deep games are great - lots of stuff to do. Deep games are bad - long learning curve. LOL.

It's not a guarentee, but it does look like more and more that I'll be sticking around after the 14 day trial. Hopefully, I can get to 20 and see how the grouping is before the 14 days is up and get to see a little more of the 'real' game before I make my final decision...

(P.S.: game cards for this game aren't avail in NA, right?)

Yep. I looked at archers, but they didn't seem to have any flashy powers (eye candy = good LOL) or ranged crowd control besides Confusion. They seemed to be just one-dimentional damage-damage-damage. If I'm wrong, please tell me, but that's what it seemed...

It seemed so for me too..

You get money as a heal-bot? Um... heal-bots charge money for heals? Or do I totally not get what you mean?

No, it's just the fighting classes spend allot of consumables when hunting, but healers can spend wey less and all adena drops are evenly distributed in party, so in the end healer ends up with more profit.

Nah, I'm not in to leaving my comp on overnight/when I'm away from home. Too paranoid.

It's just in this game almost everything takes good amount of time takes allot of time, and most eficient way to sell is to go afk. Not everyone likes to sit whants their toon sitting in town for hours..

So the only way to do the economic thing in this game is to leave the computer AFK for x hours a night? There's no WoW auction-house equivalent where I can log off?

Nope, and no plans to install one.
You can use any NC game card..... For lineage.

So... I can buy a City of Villains timecard and it'll work for Lineage 2? For real?

Ah. So duos (fighter/support) are more popular than full teams...? Do fighter/nukers often call out for a support 'buddy' to go questing/farming?

Nah, in my case, it would be not participating except the times I'm actually on - you're right, sitting watching the screen doing nothing is bad, so looks like that's not a real option for me... oh well, thanx for info. :)

Different locations need different teams. Some you can easily duo and more people will be just leachers. For other locations you will need up to a full party (9 people). Nukers more ofeten go solo or with a SE (dark elf healer). The melee'sare much better of with a suport char in a party.

Question
Can I use a City of Heroes Game Time Card for an Auto Assault, City of Villains, Lineage or Lineage II game account?

Answer

Although they are labeled for specific games, PlayNC game time cards are usable on any of our games. You can use an Auto Assault, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Lineage or Lineage II Game Time Card for any of those games. For example, you can use:

*
A City of Heroes Game Time Card on a Lineage II game account
*
A Lineage II Game Time Card for a City of Villains game account
*
A City of Villains Game Time Card for a Lineage game account
*
Any combination therein

Please keep in mind that once a game time card has been used, the game time applied cannot be transferred to another account. The game time provided by a single game time card cannot be split between multiple game accounts. Additionally, once registered, the game time cannot be paused or stopped. It will expire 60 days after registering the game time card whether the account has been used or not.
