Buff/Debuff Stacking

Player Questions Started Last reply 13 posts
Hello! My roommate and I just started orc shamen and we're wondering if when we both cast chill flame, do they stack and each deal damage to the mob/player? And conversely, will our group buffs like chant of shielding stack?

One other question for any experienced shaman out there, I noticed that casting speed is pretty slow as an orc...what kind of robe sets and other gear can I get to improve this?

Thanks a lot,
Noob Orc
Hi there,

Not sure on the first question you asked, about buff/debuff stacking, so I can't answer it.

On the armor question though, for no grade gear, you want to get Devotion Chest, Legs, and Leather Helmet set. This set will provide you a 15% increase in spell casting speed. However, its still real slow compared to light elfs.
No, they don't stack. So it would benefit you both if you learned different spells, so you'll be stronger as a duo. -Things that do stack are bleed + poison (just not bleed+bleed and poison+poison). One spell you both should train is the drain - it can be a life saver.

And yes, devotion set is the best NG robe set (not the top robe set, but the best, because of the casting speed bonus).
More tips for your Orc Shaman:

You don't have to go the staff-way a lot of mystics do, for an Orc you are way better with a blunt-sword or even fist weapons as you have the capability to actually do some damage, combined with your life drain skill.

Devotion is very good in NG, if you have your adena's right you can have that by lvl10-12.

After in D grade, Mithril is pretty good.

In any case, welcome to the game and know that Warcryers and Overlords are high wanted chars in groups and clans.
I've tested it on a private server once, the newest skill cast will take effect over the oldest skill that was used.

so if you cast over your friends it will take effect and null out your friends skill, works the same on posion and I think bleed to. and it some times cancels out one or the other skill.

OL and WC are good classes.

OL is hard to lvl cause they are very depended on clans and allys cause they only able to buff them, and aren't much help to anyone out side of a clan.

But where Ol lacks is where the WC picks up.

one thing that kind of sucks, is the WC and OL have been geting all of the skills from the prophet so the prophet has been losing alot of playiblity.

They balance eachother by the fact that the WC gets the skills later (same goes up for SE skills like VR)

That doesn't change the fact that they DO get the same lvl of the skills eventually. If there is one point in the game where the classes should be balanced, it is in the end game, i.e. in the high levels. When a prophet and a WC both are 75 and have both invested lots of time into their characters, both should be balanced. At that point it is not interesting anymore if the WC got the same level skills a few levels later or not, but it IS interesting that the WC got important skills from both Prophet and SE *and* the overpowered Chant of Victory (which combines all the prophecy buffs in one buff for the whole party).

Really, "but he gets the same skill levels later" is not a an argument for both classes being balanced, because you spend FAR more time in the higher levels, when both classes have all skills maxed out.

Hmm indeed, you have a point :)
Thanks everyone for the replies! My roommate and I are up to level 15 now and we've both bought devotion robes... the casting is somewhat more manageable, but still slow! Are there other higher level robe sets with similar bonuses? What about casting speed enchantments...anything exist like that? or gloves/helm/boots that help out? jewelry?

Also, in light of the buffs/dots not stacking would it make more sense for us to become a warcryer and a overlord as opposed to two warcryers? which duo would fair better in pve and pvp?

thanks again!!
Acumen is what you are looking for in your weapons post D grade. Till then, it is only your armor and your pot usage that will really help full time. Buffs are nice, but you can't always rely on them.

I will say this being a level 60 OL. We have 2 WC in our clan. Both are very much welcome not only in parties within the clan but also anywhere they go. Having 2 WC is nothing but nice, nice nice.
If one of you wants to play the OL, they will definately have a tougher time past 55 or so soloing than the WC and, unless you are in a good clan/alliance, there are very few peeps out there who undertand and want an OL in party. This is something I can speak to from experience. The OL though, has some monster debuffs and at higher levels, their seals are to die for.
I would strongly suggest that unless you can see yourself going all the way, WC would be a better fit. Easy to pick up parties, nice to play and alot of choices on how to play them.

OL is hard to lvl cause they are very depended on clans and allys cause they only able to buff them, and aren't much help to anyone out side of a clan.

This, right here, is the whole problem. OL's can be quite useful in melee aoe groups. Seal of Root, Seal of Winter, Seal of Silence, all quite useful in melee aoe groups. But, melee aoe groups are hard to come by and everyone thinks of OL's as just an ally buffer.

I'm not saying they are useless, only pointin gout about the buffs, not the parts of the class.

oh yes yes yes, OL's are great for AoE, proplem is that it's really hard to organize a AoE party. and NCsoft has been hiting them with the nierf stick when it comes to AoE.
If you're going to be in the same clan, it would very much make sense for one of you to go WC and the other OL. -Especally if you want to party together (better to have an OL and WC rather than two WCs). The two classes compliment each other nicely.
