New to L2

Kain Started Last reply 5 posts
My self and my wife have just started new Chrs on L2, we have been playing WOW for 1.5 yrs and played EQ for yrs before that, got bored with wow and decided to play L2 for awhile untill Aion comes out.
I am going to play a Fighter and move into a tank build and she is going to play mystic into a healer so we can duo as much as possible, plus it is nice to have a tank/healer to start a grp

anything that anyone can post to help us with getting into game info wise would be great

There is so much to tell and learn, it's actually demotivating to even start but I try to get you a quick gate from my personal experience:

Do adena quests as much as possible, get the newbie buffs, don't travel to much by using GK, and don't spamm shots.

This game is about grinding and collecting adena's to craft or buy gear and stuff, xp is a nice extra.

A tank-healer is a nice combo, as you can go pretty diverse ways, and might be seen by an interested clan to help you after lvl20 or such.

Try to hunt green mobs, and untill lvl20 you should only bother about repeatable adena-quests. After that go to the mainland (by then you should know enough about playstyle), and focus on more quests, getting D grade, learning Dawn-Dusk system, partying...

At lvl40 your world is open, xp will most of the time "suck" as most new players like to call it...but it only goes downhill. Fun and diversity in gaming only goes upwards after 40 imo.

Bottomline in L II = Adena > Xp
Welcome to L2
Time to change your paradigms with respect to risk vs reward. L2 = a lot of risk for bugger all reward !

The world of Aden is indeed very chaotic, albeit not as bad as it used to be on Kain. Kain's population has matured somewhat from the Open Beta crowd I started with.

The XP curve starts off reasonably easy but then rises steeply as you clear your second class change.
You will find it very slow and painfull to level a tank in a duo regardless of setup, they simply do not put out enough DPS to make for efficient levelling.

As a tank/healer duo, I'd say to try the "pickup group" scene and try to get into a clan as soon as possible. Most clans will give you easier access to clan groups which will facilitate a smoother XP gain. You should aim for 4+ (max is 9 in the game)person groups to level tanks and healers efficiently.

As allready mentioned in L2 you can either make money or XP, you can't do both unless you are a summoner ;) P
Depending on your equipment requirements you are likely to go through phases where you will "farm" (kill over and over) certain mobs for a particular material crafting component IOT craft your weapons, jewellery and armour. And XP phases where you will burn your hard earn't cash on soul and spirit shots IOT increase the XP gain rate.

Have a good read of how the whole flagging for PvP works and when you are/are not likely to drop items.
Remember this is an open PvP system so there is no point having a spat at being attacked or even PK'd. Fight back if you get the chance, otherwise dust off restart in town and carry on regardless. Explore the world so that you can go to a different spot if some tool happens to be PK camping an area. There are plenty of hunting areas so don't get hung up about a favourite spot.

Other than feel free to pm either myself or anyone else who has a pronouncable name/tag above their head and you should do fine.

welcome to kain, I to just started on kain.. yet I rerolled from erica to kain. got tired of that server.

make sure you do all of the quest open to you, there are some that will give you free shots, and even free weapons. as a humin if you want to be a tank the best one will be a pallidan in C5, which will be released preatty soon.

I'm sure your wandering whats the best healer, I think best healer is bishop, but shillen elder can buff where as bish isn't as good at. yet bishop gets the best rez in game. which at later lvls is importent.

pm arcvied or kabura. I'll be happy to help you as much as I could.
Two VERY important things, especially if you have come from WoW:

1. This game is completely open PvP (except in towns). You can kill or be killed at any time. Furthermore - this freedom of players to do ANYTHING they like extends to trade and commerce. People can and will try to scam you. It is perfectly legal to do so. Basically, in L2, if it can physically BE done, it is permitted to do so. The only forbidden things are hard coded into the game (cannot attack people in peace zones etc). So be careful every time you make a trade, or buy an item from a player. Double check their name and the full details of the item. ALWAYS do this. ALWAYS.

2. In virtually every aspect of this game, you will come across a choice. Do it the quick and expensive way, or the slow, hard work way. Always choose the latter. Adena is king in this game. XP, SP, PvP count ... all means NOTHING without adena. Adena = Gear. Gear is power.

So always walk to locations rather than port (unless you would generate more income in the time it takes you to walk there than the port cost...this doesn't happen until you are around level 60 or so for most ports). Always craft your items, not buy (even if you can afford, you'll need that adena later!). Always farm your mats from the manor. Always set up buy stores rather than buy the items from sell stores. Etc. Basically if you do things the slow way, you will be thankful for it when you reach higher levels with a load of adena in your pocket. Sure you won't reach high level as quick as some other people...but that's ok - those other people probably had to ebay adena (cheating!) to get there so quick.

Once you are rich and high level, you can afford to powerlevel your subclass and other characters quickly, and all that hard work pays big dividends.

One last thing - you meet all types in this game. From total jerks to very considerate people. Be a Nice Player (TM). Don't steal people's stuff. Don't steal their playing areas. Do help your fellow players out with quests. Etc etc. You will gain respect on the server by being a fair and honest player...and reputation means a lot in L2. L2 is primarily about political power more than anything else. You can gain this power only by being in strong alliances and building friendships. PvP is sometimes involved...but diplomacy can often be a more subtle and more successful way to dominate in-game society...keep that in mind and you will do well :)
