NEW PLAYERS <<LOOK>>

General Discussion Started Last reply 53 posts
I made this post to help new players. As I see a fair amount of new players joining, I am willing to help them out.

I can give a new player 100k, some nice noob gear, and soulshots ^^ ( for all you new players this is really good).

I only have 1 request, and its that you stay playing, because its rather pointless for me to give gear and then you quit.

Send me a Private message on these boards if you want some assistance, and be sure to make the char on Kain.

It's nice too see people doing this.

I sometimes visit the noob lands and give money or equipment. However, I can't help feel that sometimes I'm giving all of this to people who will just up and leave in 2 weeks. It's a risk I know. But I realize that this type of help can get people out of the noob lands fast and send them on to places where they can feel that they are actually part of the game.

I just wonder if any of those players stick around :(

Of course I also wonder how many people aren't honest and just make alts that will accept this type of help. I usually just watch them. If they are using a mismatch of equipment and their names arne't "a;slkdfj;asdjfa;s" then they are usually new
Yeah, usually unless they are really noob I don't give stuff to people looking for handouts, I see what they are using and I usually PM them to see if its an alt or not, usually its a new player, its like bam here free gears, you can TELL by talking them them for 2-3 minutes if they are noob or not. noobs are funny lawl.

but i still like to help ppl, and god it costs me like nothing <checks inventory, yeah I have 445million adena atm> lol
**** I knew I should of made my accounts on Kain. I would have like 20 alts in TI looking for a guy named IndianaB or anything with Indiana in it :D. And use the equipment the wolves drop.

Just playing. But yea, it is great that people do this. It really helps new people, if they're honestly new stay in the game, and also not encourage them to be mean to others later in game once they're ballers like you :D. If I didn't have a friend from school help me out when I started, I don't think I would still be playing today.
Yeah, I do that a lot too.. But I usually ask them to promise me one thing: That they will never buy money or bot..

I dont know if they'll keep that promise, but I feel like Im doing something to change what's wrong with this game..
Well I dont mind its not like im hurting for adena if they arnt new players, if I sell a few extra items I have id have over a billion adena :P

hoho
lol I need to craft more ... whenever I get close to 100 mil I decide to craft alot of 60%s lol and then I usually cut that in half. one time I tried 3 60% lances .. all of them failed lol ...

I only have 1 request, and its that you stay playing, because its rather pointless for me to give gear and then you quit.

Agreed. I have helped many clannies and non-clannies over the past couple of years and only a limited number stuck around. Too bad, look what they're missing. The game is just starting to get fun. :)
u should give it so splatter so he can get out of elmore imo. :p
Well thats cool Bones! When I started playing I would have loved to get help, lol...but then again when I played noob towns were a bit more fun and not so empty as they are now.

That little boost you give them will go a long long long way. I mean I was playing since the beginning of C2 and had NG till lvl 30 or something (not even top, lol) and being a mage I killed 2 mobs and sat down to wait for mana, since I had to 56 shot the mobs...

LOL, I feel like a noob...I never even broke 10mil unless I sold my gear to upgrade to new gear... you should teach me ur ways of mass adena! So I can actually start thinking of getting A grade...lol.
I appreciate the generosity of players who do stuff like this, though announcing it on the board here may not be as productive as you'd like. On the contrary I can see this causing a lot of people rerolling just to take advantage of such an offer, even though 100k and noob gear isn't particularly a lot in the late game. In anycase, this kinda reminds me of a time when I started a new alt. Someone gave me 50K and some gear thinking I was just starting. They were actually nice enough to let me keep it once I informed them that my main was in his 60s. I guess the real just of this is that generosity is appreciated in any way that it comes, but on the other hand, just be careful of people who try to take advantage of it.
Well yeah, I would reroll for sure, its so bad at low levels.

Noob gear = 200k, 100k for various spending, possibly GK travel, then maybe a few thousand SS. That can give them such a jump start in the beginning, huugggggggge jumpstart.

Overenchanting loves me, just made another +8 soulbow lol, wts, 700m obo
yep. it would.

I was going to reroll onto kain, and was asking a long term freind of mine from the boards here if she'd be kind enough to help me start over, but I basicly was told no.

"we don't give hand outs for recruiting", I'm not going to name who it is.. but I was a lil dissapointed in the trust, since I was totally going to pay her back. and said that.

I'm just a tad tired of my server right now... too bad I can't even log into L2 ATM.
I do the same thing. The true noobs usually are questing or farming in so-so gear, rarely ask for buffs, if they do they don't complain that it's "only acumen 2" and generally don't even ask for money. These are the ones I give stuff to and help exp now and then, answer questions and so on.

The ones that complain about "OMG zerk 1 that's it??" or ask for money are usually rerolls or just jerks.
Oh don't even go there nolerahl, if you wanted top NG to start out and SS or something I'll do that but you were looking for karmian and a homu sword, Don't take it personally I wouldn't do that for anyone outside of EP.
Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

Hm no pm's yet, just lots of PM's ingame saying how nice I am lol ~~

Cmon noobs I know ur out there, free hookups on Kain, bump!
Last year, I was a lvl 3x scav then, I visited the dwarven town. I met a player who just started a week ago, and just managed to earn a wooden set.

He was very excited about the game, and asked me a lot of questions. I said L2 is a very hard game wich requires a lot of patience and such, but to encourage him a bit I gave him a free bone shield. Ive never seen a player happier then him that time ^^

That little helpless noob is now a Fortune Seeker, and is leveling his nuker subclass now. He is still in the race to become the first Fortune Seeker Hero on Teon. :)
Thats pretty awesome =)
Yea, usually you can really tell a true noob is when you say...need some buffs? And they are like, whats that? Or you pm them, and they respond in normal chat...lol. But this usually happens if nobody played an MMO before...so they are 'really noob' lol.

I know when my buddy first started, I helped him out so much. I liked helping him though because I wanted him to stay with the game. LOL, now he is my clan leader and helps me out all the time... ;)

/bump

LOL, dang one of these days I am just gonna have to try to OE...but the highest I was ever brave enough to go was a +4 Homu...lol..
You need money to make money, to start off I got money by making a +16 darkscreamer, sold 650m, then built off from there, at some points I went down to 50-100m... but I played some tough odds and now I'm at a billion. Ive been up to 2 billion before, but luck comes and goes.

*BUMP for newbs*
raaawrr bump
Is the game still fun when u have everything u want?
Yup.

Is the game still fun when u have everything u want?

The game really is about the player interaction. Whether you like the politics and clan wars or just hanging and exploring with friends, that is the game.

Sort of like "Seinfeld". It is a game "about nothing" except what the players make of it. There really is not much to it except, because of this there is so much freedom to interact.

And that is where you get the game.

Other games give you everything you need, they give you constant quests or instances and generally give you purpose.

Look at the server forums for this game. It is all about the people who play the game. Look at other forums for other games. Unless they have a pvp component you really aren't going to get much of anything excpet advice on how to play and what quests to take.
Who was it that said the term "noob" doesn't necessarily refer to time spent in game?

I re-roll often enough that I run into noobs fairly often. There are usually 3 kinds:

1. the noob re-roll who is just scamming others for gear or adena. You can point these out fairly quickly because they will ask you for handouts before you even say hello. I never help these individuals.

2. the noob ebayer. also easily identified as they are in top NG gear, but have no clue as how to hunt or make adena. (I've seen some folks well into their 50's who fit under this description.) In many ways, the game is much easier now than when I first started playing, but the one constant is that there is no way you can be a true first timer and have a comp bow AND a falchion at level 10. You just can't make that kind of adena that quickly, especially since the first 5 levels you reach in under 20 minutes. lol. I help this type of noob with advice only. "Hello there, chap, let me explain to you the art of kiting and why daggers at low levels are much more effective weapons than a bow."

3. the true noob. Fresh out of the toon factory, they're enthusiastic about playing and throw themselves into the grind without much thought. They don't beg you for adena or gear, but often ask questions as to how to play. You can easily spot a true noob, because they will be in appropriate low to mid-priced gear for their level and are often the only ones resting in the middle of a hunting ground. They are also much more likely to ask for groups, as many experienced players know that groups are hardly necessary at lower levels.

I help the true noob in a number of ways.

I am always reluctant to give adena handouts, because this game is about establishing yourself from ground zero. Only after you've learned how to build income can you truly be a viable part of this game. It's not a coincidence that people who accept handouts tend to quit. This is not an easy game, and they clearly lack the perseverance to play it unless someone is making it easy for them.

In lieu of adena, I've given advice as to where and how to hunt, quests to do, equipped them with tons of pots, shots, sp scrolls, rez and soe's, grouped them with my re-rolls or higher level alts and let them keep all of the drops, etc. That is my preferred method of helping true noobs...bring them along for the ride with one of my higher level alts and let them pick up and keep all of the drops as I hunt. It not only helps them out adena wise, but it shows them some of the higher level content in the game and encourages them to reach that level and beyond.
Agree with Sin there on the noob re-roller. Met one at elven village on my alt and that guy kept trading me asking for adena, while a true noob mystic I saw was in white tunic set grinding away.

Bones, there are quite a few true noobs around the starter villages, gludio n gludin. Don't frighten them with your cursed man though :D
Bump, still willing to help
i agree with Sin. but i've a question now, i still have my NG armor sitting in my inventory. now majority of the time i'd just hand it out to a true noobie player (hoping that he/she wont quit later on). currently, i'm a little hesitant as to what to do in this situation, knowing how the game economy is, should i just sell it or do the 'right thing'?
and IndianaB, i just noticed in your sig ... +10 ?!?! god d@mn !!!

lol, you started off by making a +16 DS?? where did the money for that come from if you started with that?? When I started I couldnt afford the crystals to make a DS, let alone the enchants...I had to play the market for a while to be able to do that...
Not like it costs that much. DS = 6.5-7 mill, plus 16 EWC's which at one point were actually down to 300k. ( bought a bunch that way). That's another 5 mill, it's not that bad should you get lucky.
I didnt say it was impossible, but it just seems odd to start with a +16 weapon. I always seem to sell when mine hit around 10.

I think he is saying that he "started off his serious moneymaking endeavors" by making a dark screamer.

I'm currently crafting a Sword of Miracles to sell for the same purpose. However, I hate crafting, so a little at a time.

Ive been up to 2 billion before, but luck comes and goes.

I know what you mean. I've made and sold more +++ weapons than I can shake a stick at, including 3 weapons to +16 and one to +17. The Kris was my last +16 weapon and it's safe to say that I'm done with enchants. Looking for a new thrill....

Well, I am 75/70 lol its not hard to make money

I blow hundreds of millions of adena perrr day
Speaking of true noobs, I happen to be one of them. I'm an EQ2 transplant and I can't even wrap my head around how I make money, or how crafting works... only dwarves can craft? then why does my orc have a crafting ability? I'm really lost, and any basic BASIC advice would be much appreciated. I've found that trolling the boards gets me in to stuff that I don't even comprehend yet. lol I'm in cotton gear at the moment because it's what i could afford... and I think i've got the learning skills thing down pat. lol Just starting playing yesterday. Any good sites you can point me towards?
Hoping to make level 10 today! :)

Thanks for any tips you can give me!
Nala :)
Which server are you on and what type of Orc are you playing?

Dwarves are the only ones who can craft weapons, armor and jewelry. Everyone has common craft which is for things like some potions, dyes and hair ornaments. The ingredients for those common craft are gotten through fishing and the recipes are purchased at clan halls.

Money is difficult in this game for most. Let us know what class you are playing and if it truly is an Orc and we can give you a bit more advice.

And welcome to Lingeage II. I think it's a great game and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I'm on the Devianne (sp?) server and I'm an orc mystic. My name is Kamanna. I'm enjoying it so far! Though the last spell i got was for that sleeping one and I'm thinking I should have taken the health leeching one now. I'm spending a lot of time resting. lol

So I can craft healing potions?

Nala
and what the heck are hair ornaments? hehe

:o
Nala
You can craft healing potions if you have the stuff, but in general, they are probably not worth it.

Please take a moment to read Ellie's excellent thread on scams

Don't fall for these (http://boards.lineage2.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=533688&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#533688)

I found that heavy armor worked really well for me as an orc mystic. I meleed until I was down on health then did a life drain to get myself back up.

I don't think this is right, I mean I don't think you can say a newb is a cheater just because he is wearing top NG below 10.

That noob may have just meet the right person and that person outfit him completely.

About 2 weeks ago, 2 clannies were hunting near DEV and meet a new player, talking to her the learn she was French, so they ask me to PM her since french is my first language.

Talking to her she seemed nice, so I bought her top NG, she was about level 5.

But since I can't always be there to answer her question, she mey ask other people for info even if she already have Top NG.

And it's not the first time I do it.

Thats why I don't think NG gear means anything.
and what's a hair ornament?

:)

and what's a hair ornament?

Things like Cat(look at my avatar), Raccoon and Rabbit Ears and also hairpins.
what do they do for you?

and to craft them I just get the ingrediants from fishing, and then the recipe from a clan headquarters? :)

Pirate Eye Patch (http://membres.lycos.fr/masterjagnon/Images/PiratePatch.jpg)

And that's about alll the pics I have of accesories.
awww! I totally want one of those hair pins! hehe Where can I get the ingrediants and recipe from? :)

Nala
to make an Hairpin you need

2 recipes (1 to register in your book, 1 for the craft) Available from Clan halls
300 Fish Gems
150 Shiny Fish Gems
20 pieces of the Hairpin you want

you get the Gems and Pieces from fishing.
can you even fish in the orc town? hehe I don't think there's water around anywhere... but i have seen the guy selling the equipment in the grocery store i think....
I haven't been in Orc town for a while, but my guess is that you can Fish there.

I remember seeing water.
thank you for all your help! I'm super excited :)
What Server are you on Nala_?
i'm on the devianne server.

Just looked in to fishing... i can't get a rod for less than 36000 Adena. sigh. it will have to wait until i'm a bit bigger i guess :)
