Ive skimmed through these forums for over a week now, since I started focusing on my Orc looking for this info. I dont see much info at all on the orc Raider>Destroyer>Titan class. Is it that badly under played? Is there a reason why I dont see this class mentioned much on the forums?
Regardless, I am going to play one because ..well I think they look magnificant wearing heavy armor and weilding massive 2h weapons.
Questions:
How are they considered in groups? Im assuming they use polearms for the most part? Are they aggro tanks, AOE tanks, are they tanks at all? Are they overlooked or neglected in seiges/raids/groups? What can I expect when looking for pug's and what could better my chances of being group accepted?
Solo pve (my main question). What is/are the weapons of choice with this class? Ideally I would like to use some sort of 2h weapon along with polearms. What weapon combo's work the best when soloing pve?
right now the toon is lvl 18. I plan on getting to 20 tonight so I ask these questions to better allocate my sp when I become a raider. I already have top D armor from another toon of mine, but will be shopping for a polearm and some sort of 2h weapon in Dion.
any tidbits are greatly appreciated since I havnt gathered really any info on them. I also have no mentor in-game (im in the middle of a move and cannot dedicate myself to a clan yet) so if you have a moment or two, please educate me.
Destroyers are a great class that is generally very straightforward to play and understand, so they get less "screen time"...other than the inevitable "OMG ORCHER" threads where people whine a lot.
They are great PvE DD's, from what I can determine. As you guessed, they are particularly good with polearms, but I wouldn't rule out single-target weapons either.
In PvP, they do great damage...in the extremely rare case that they actually reach a target, given their low speed and lack of range boosts. Some Destroyers have picked up bows (like almost every other fighter who wants to PvP), and they aren't by any means the best with them, but they're slightly more likely to connect with a target that way.
from my experiences in pvp against destroyers they pwn with a 2handed sword (frenzy and guts = pain) i found that at c grade once they get to below 30% hp to just kite there [censored] its a hole lot safer ive heard they also pwn with bows aswell.
i plan to subclass destroyer with my orc mystic im that impressed with them.
and once c5 gets here, you might also want ot consider 2 handed blunt as well. as it is, there is no top 2 handed blunt, but that will be changing....
(my warlock is thinking of going 2 handed blunt for b grade. :) )

as for suggestions to new raiders...always have anger on unless you have 3 mobs hitting you. anger stacks with frenzy, but it doesnt matter which one you do first, the combined p att will be the same. use a chrono for stuns, a bow for range, and a 2h sword with focus for everything else. its nice to have health on your blunt but chronos are so much lighter to carry. for armor, BW or doom, depending on how much you tank for small parties. in A grade, you can wear anything besides robes, diferent situations call for different stats, and destroyers are extremely easy to mod. also, for PvP after level 66, get a cheap or chrono polarm for taking out enemy CP, that is, if they dont run away from you in fear.
you may also wish to get fist weapons, there are skills for fists as well as poles. at d grade the better fists are scalloped jamadhrs .. and great patas for c grade .
When I started down the path to Destroyer I was a little bothered because it seemed slow and I didn't hit very hard in my opinion. After getting into B grade with my Destroyer I lvled a Dwarf and a SH and a Archer on the side for fun. I was a little bothered about how easy it was for them to lvl and for how much harder they hit. But I stuck with my orc because from the beggining I did a lot of reading about Destroyer and everyone said you dont get your power until lvl 60. Well at level 58 I started noticing I would draw aggro and hit very hard and was happy I stuck with my class. At 60 I was really excited about my class and now that I have my A grade skills and am leveling even more I am just thrilled and feel very rewarded that I stayed with it.
One bit of advice: When in groups communicate with your healer about Frenzy. If the healer is willing and feels she/he can manage her/his mana effectivly to let you drop your health and heal you up quick once you have activated Frenzy then you should do it as often as possible. Let her/him know each time it has charged up and you are ready to activate. Healer has the final call on that cause she knows her mana and healing capabilities better than you. Usually the healer will like the XP that flows in from these skills and will be all for it.
Also it helps if right before you activate you have someone pull a buch of mobs so there are targets to hit during to 90 second reign of terror. I activate Accuracy and VS while waiting for my HP to drop, then as sson as your HP begins to flash activate Frenzy then Rage and if there are stunners around activate Lionheart.
Anyway Destroyers are great it just takes a while to get there imo.

thanks a lot for that link, king. lots of good info there
The power, as a previous poster said, comes at the 60 level range. I used 2 hander all the way but did try a pole and a blunt/shield a few times.
You have 2 possible set ups that I have seen, high damage or high defense.
High Defense- With doom and blunt and shield you can take massive amounts of damage. Throw a few con tatoos on and your a bag of HP. You have blunt skills and shield helps with blocking arrow ect. This is a great pve set up if your grouping and they need somebody to get hit on. Destro's don't get hate to hold aggro.
High Damage- BW and strength tatoos. 2 handed sword with focus and you will deal massave amounts of damage. Toe to toe you can beat any class in the game. Your downfall will be run speed and lack of ranged attack. If somebody in your group roots them, they are dead. You can also carry a bow which your range will be short but you will hit for high damage. Hit frenzy with your bow and you can one shot many classes, especially the ones that nerf their con to get more dex. C5 will bring a nerf to using the bow but increase damage with the 2 hander. Not sure the numbers but hopefully it won't make the bow useless as it is your only chance at a ranged attack.
It is important to note that Destroyers are Damage Dealers with a zillion HP, and not really tanks. This is mostly due to a lack of hate skills... keep in mind that tanking with Destroyers is possible... just not as easy as with a knight or warlord with a hate or aoe hate skill.
Destroyers are incredible killing machines for anything they can catch. Their biggest downfall is that they are slow and their range is miserable. To make up for this, their damage and HP are insane.
Any poor sot trying to kill a destroyer loses one way or another.
Mages or archers must spend a LOT of adena and mana to kill one, but they will defeat destroyers eventually by whittling them down at range. Sure you died... but what did it cost your opponenets to kill you? This is not as noticeable in 1v1 PvP... but anywhere that includes group tactics this becomes more obvious. Nowhere is this more evident than in sieges.
Everyone else other than mages or archers is in for a rough time. If the destroyer closes the distance, there will be much pain. (Run away!)
Destroyers are great fun in sieges... we usually place two standing inside choke points with archers and mages behind them. Enemies are so busy killing the ranged, they don't notice the orcs until its way too late.
One of our Destroyers loads every HP item he can find and walks onto the battlefield and plays "follow the orc"...
All you see is a blur of arrows and mage nukes until he lures them close enough for our ranged... he dies a lot... but lives more often than you'd think he would. While he doesn't get the kills... we all know and our enemies all know who did them in... We consider it a benchmark of our opponent to see how many times they fall for this trick.
At one siege, the enemy leader had finally given a order to not follow the orc standing outside our throne room under any circumstances. (Mages and archers above him in the alcove at Aden) After having killed many many of theirs and only dying three times he decided it was time to charge...
Think about it... one orc charging a waiting 70-100 person strike force... His death was magnificent... the enemy was so surprised he actually whacked one guy (didn't kill him) before they figured out what to do. Of course the carnage of the following charge by the defenders made his actual kill ratio incredible.
His death cost the attackers dearly. The defenders charged and the distracted attackers died in droves with very few of the defenders falling. All due to one incredibly crazy orc and a good call by the siege leaders.
I have occassionally duoed with a Destroyer [I'm a spellhowler] and say that they are very effective tanks. I don't know how the mob aggro formulas work but it seems that melee damage can hold aggro even if the damage is less than ranged damage. We were fighting 4x and 5x mobs in ToI 9th floor and the Destroyer had no problem holding aggro on the mob despite that I nuke for >2000 dmg.
Also, Destroyers are awesome to round up group mobs. They easily hold aggro with the polearm while I do AoE nukes. One whirlwind special per group and aggro is assured.
I like grouping so much with Destroyers that I will probably sub Destroyer [assuming I make it to 75, assuming I can kill the freaking raid bosses, etc. etc.]
Like I said, Destroyers CAN tank by using proximity and first hit to keep aggro, but if the mobs start hitting you for some reason, your are going to want a knight!
I have nothing but respect for Destroyers... but there are some things they do not do as well as other classes.
raiders do not get any other levels of fist skills after 15. raiders do not use fist weapons, monks do. however, using a D grade sword and D grade fists is a great way to get to lvl 20, as when using those two skills you always hit no matter what weapon you are using, and you can cycle between them to one-shot mobs at a steady rate. also, would like to point out orcs have the highest men of any fighters in the game, so mp regen is pretty fast.
I talked to one of the Destroyers I group with and he said the damage output with a bow is about a wash with that of the 2H sword. He said he uses the bow mainly for a change of pace and because he was too lazy to run down the mobs to pull them ;)
Yeah, duo with hate classes is great as a nuker. I usually rely on vamp claw to keep me alive when mobs start pounding on me. A few times when I duo with a Destroyer class and pull aggro I get nervous when I see "Vamp claw cancelled", "Vamp claw cancelled" in the system screen and watch as my HP drops and drops before getting one off.
