you should be killing mobs you can one or two shot. Yes, after you are done you need to rest but this gets better for most of the mages as you go up in lvl.
im alreayd lvl 15, yes, me and my friend started at the same time.. hes already lvl 21 with max NG. He still has a few newbSS
dont ask me how, he was fast and did all the quests. i'm just wondering wheres the reasoning behind the fact that i have to chose between slow lvling and fast llving while warriors can only lvl fast..

Oh dude.
Please trust me when I say, though I believe that your experience is true for you, the fact of the matter remains that nukers lvl a lot faster as the game goes on. Just keep playing and you will see.
Simply because a nuker can oneshot most of the beginner mobs and a melee has to hit it several times without ss and even with the newby ss they still have to hit the mob several times.
I gather since you are going nuker, you have already realized how overpowering nukers are and you will level twice as fast as any melee class in the same amount of time.
So I guess, in the beginning your sps may not do as much damage but once you get to d grade, your damage and speed from bsps will be 4-5 times minimum of that of any melee class. I have a slave buffer and in one buff round, yes one buff round, with the no grade spirit shot, I was able to get 14 lvls on my newb nuker, good luck doing that with a melee. :)
yeah ok i understand but a melee can simply buy health potions(or actually get 200 for free) and do constant lvling for a **** long while and thats their most optimal lvling.
mages can buy the good soulshots but cant buy mana pots, so either way that must be where he passed me..

Well, some mages get body to mind. It takes hp's and gives you mana. I basically got 20% this past weekend by using body ot mind, taking greater heal potions until I have signifiant health and mroe body to mind.
In this way you have mana potions. Just a small amount of downtime and you are ready to go.
But I think you are right... low lvl melee can continually go while low lvl mage has some downtime. will change though.. I promise.
i'm just wondering wheres the reasoning behind the fact that i have to chose between slow lvling and fast llving while warriors can only lvl fast..
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but if you actually reach 40 after him, then he is simply a more effective player when it comes to levelling. When soloing, nukers level faster than fighters under normal circumstances, but if you're both new then a learning curve is probably involved.
Ok heres is the deal. Get use to setting around and regening mp you will be doing it the rest of the time you play this game on a LE Nuker if you go Spellsinger.
Here are some things you might not know that will help you lvl faster.
1. First off always get your newby buffs if they run out go back and get them again.
2. Are you using spirit shots or blessed spirit shots? Use blessed spirit shots when killing mobs. They cost more than spirit shots but work much better, you will see the difference.
I haven't bought any spirit shots since the free ones from being a newb.
3. The most important thing to learn is never hunt anything that takes more than 2 shots (nukes/spells) to kill. Since you are new and dont have top NG weapon. I would say you need to hunt mobs that are green to you. The trick is not how much xp each mob gives you, it's how many mobs you can kill before running out of mp.
Example.
Say Mob A takes 4 shots to kill and you get 600xp from them. But you can only kill 10 of them before you run out of mp. So you are getting 6000 xp per mp round.
Now Mob B only takes 2 shots to kill and you get 400 xp from them, but you can kill 20 of them before running out of mp. You are now getting 8000xp per mp round.
Search around and kill different mobs paying attention to the ones you can 2 shot. The ones that give the most xp stay and grind on them tell they turn blue then move on. Its been so long ago I dont remember the best mobs at lvl 17.
I hope this makes sense to you. Most new players don't understand how to best manage mp. If you hunt this way when solo you will quickly out lvl your friend and have more adena left then he will. No worries we all have gone through the learning curve.
Also when you decide to get your D grade if you can afford it. IMO Demon Fang is the best mage weapon for the money for D grade and you can buy it from NPC store or from another players. As fast as you will level through D grade its not worth spending millions on gear.
One last thing. Mages are never disadvantaged you just have to learn how to play them. IF you go nuker people will complain because you are over powered.
This thread is funny, very, very funny is all I can say about it.
im with you dude
if you are haveing trouble manageing your mana at those low lvls you will seriously regret playing a L.E
i you plan on continueing as a nuker i suggest you reroll now because spellsinger is the worst mp manageing mage in game
I'd like to say few words about shots.
Im not gonna recomen you to use blessed ones, cause most mobs need 2 hits either with blessed ones or just spiritshots. Ofcourse if you have unlimitid supply of adena you can go for blessed ones. But like for me - i spend 60-120a per shot (depends if i use shots for both nukes or not), using spiritshots and the mob gives me back 200-350a. So im making a profit - and im always duoing my friend SE so that is why the money is split. BUT with blessed ones i would spend 160-320 on 1-2 nukes SO there's no profit for me. That is for top-d grade weapon, using 3 shots per nuke.
Maybe i am one of the few ones using spiritshots and blessed ones only on raids, but at least i know im making money and not spending it all on shots :)
This thread is funny, very, very funny is all I can say about it.
Thats why I postes some helpfull hints for him. Because anyone who says what he said definatley doesn't know how to play a nuker. There is a learning curve if you have never played before.
Now before you laugh to much it's about mp management. I already know you melee guys will laugh all day about 2 shotting mobs.
this is so stupid to even bother bringing up. 1-20 can last less than a day who cares.
Well, it depends on how much time you have to play. Also, I don't think he has anything but noob gear. However, having said that, 1-20 does not last as long as it used to last that is SO true.
regarding blessed shots (from an earlier post) I didn't start using blessed shots until I was lvl 40. At one point I seem to rmember 3 shotting mobs. But the adena drops per shot usage were still very good.
No, low level light elf mana management is the worse! When I started I didn't even get buffs or noobie shots. There was no such thing as recharge, so it was about as painful as shoving bamboo into your fingers. I don't even know why I dealt with that for nearly 8 months until becoming an actual SpS to hear people complain about how great and overpowered we are now, **** back in the day it was blow SUCK!!! TBH... You will actually have problems until you get a little ways past lvl 40. Once you get into your 50's it gets much better because party mana management is much better, esspecially when you get an SE to party with.
So no, now you have many options available to you. And yes the unicorns can help later on when regening, but it is mighty expensive and if you don't kill the unicorn he will keep leeching XP from you, and how you make out % wise isn't that much better because the xp drains compensates for the time you would normall be sitting, it is just less boring. The Uni's are only really effective once you are actually a summoner, if you choose that path...other than that they are just something else to play with.
Anyway, the best thing you can do is get Top NG. I know that may be impossible, but it will help extreamly. Other than that yes try to 2 hit mobs, but I know being a LE you will almost always have about 1 splinter of health left on the mob which is really agrivating. IMO, party with you friend...even though it isn't suggested if you are still in your noob areas.
So to make somthing short and completely honest, it will be practically boring hell. You will get to the point where you are like, screw this bull...I have been there man! You can reroll, and I don't know it is really up to you. There isn't much you can do, you will hate the downtime...unless you got a book or surf the web while you regen. Later on the class gets more fun, but now with everyone calling for a nerf hammer, all I have to say is...in the future the class may become suckage! I don't want to mislead you, I just want to tell you the truth.
So IMO, you should keep going if you want the Light Elf Mage. If you just want a mage, I STRONGLY suggest going Dark Elf because it will be much easier in terms of mana management and less down time. Plus with those mages, one shotting mobs is actually possible. SpS is fun, but you will have to make recharger friends or like to do other things while you regen.
People are only calling for the nerf hammer in PvP. People want a way to counter mages. Apparently Silence and elemental resistances aren't good enough? Teamwork WHAAAATTT?!!!
another imbalance...why the hell do we get LIFE cubic anyway, another advantage for melee..jeez.
Pick the mobs that you can kill with 2 strikes and 1-2 melee swings (that's what you've got your Life cubic for). And don't touch Lireins (they are wind resistant). Your MP will last longer. If your current mobs are too weak, consider moving to Neutral Zone, werewolfs (Lycanthrops?) are probably OK.
2 mins of fight, 10% exp, 6 minutes of regen, yay.
Seriously, having spent the last 2 years on a melee char. There is not a single thing, that melees can do better than nukers... other than seeding a mob.... oh and dancing. Dwarf melees got the best socialdance ever.
A Nuker complaining about a melee leveling faster, is like a millionaire complaining about a homeless getting a free meal.
just a reminder, this post is about NEWBIE mages, the actual buffs/gains they get and their bonuses.
I'm 18 now, been killing spiders @ neutral for 6 hours :P
I know i know, grind is the way of life..have lvl 60s in wow, mostly all grinded, i know what it is ;P
Trust me, the L2 grind makes the WoW grind look like chocolate covered cheerios with nice little bits of banana diced in such a way that leaks a little bit of flavor into the milk, changing the overall taste to something fantastically delicious, which upon reaching your tongue inspires your taste buds to shout in excitement something to the effect of, "OH MY GOD THIS GRIND IS DELICIOUS!!!" while happy little gnomes dance dances of wonder in celebration of reaching WoW level 60, and you, depressed by the realization that you are a mere L2 level 55, eat your Cheerios, which are no longer lightly banana flavored, in silence.
its still the same thing, ive been grinding for a year and a half anyway, if you ask me right now at 18 id be about that, 18, in WoW...
i heard that its after 35 that the difference is obvious..like L240 = WoW50
It's not the same thing. Not at all.
Lycans are social and will eventually KoS you (or at least that's how they used to be).
I thought they are just plain aggro.
Bad news for newbies in newbieville, especially on the Island.
Sure, with Human Mystic's running speed... Ice Bolt helps, though.
They didn't used to be general aggro, but they might be now. It's been a long, long time since I was on the island. And Ice Bolt is unfortunately single target. Mystics are very crunchy.
Nuke once, then hit once or twice to kill the Mob. There you have a use for your Healthpotions, and you dont use so much mana.
Upgrade weapons with the exchange offered by the shopkeepers. High Matk is good for you. Safe the newbeeshots for the 18+ levels where you begin to feel the grind.
All the mages play equal in the low levels. none have specials in Manamanagement. That comes later.
Lightelfes could burn through their Mana faster than any other nuker with the same Equipment, hence they are also famous for their short uptime. ;)
I've leveled a lot of characters over the time I played L2 and now, with newbie buffs melee definately level the first 20 faster. That said, however, they don't much later than that.
Just think of it this way, you are slower now, but you will leave him in your dust as you speed along quickly later on.
If you are leveling them to 20 (Orc Mystics) if you level them like a melee, it goes faster. Later, after you get your mass root spell (Seal of Binding) and your mass dots (Seal of Flame and Seal of Poison) you can level fast by doing AoE on small groups.
It is dangerous and you have to be careful because without BSPS your spells may not stick (I tried SPS as suggested by one person here and I found the failure rate was still fairly high).
umm i think i will try to make friends with some pole users so if my spells do fail they will be there to help if i need it or maybe a tank with hate so he can take the hits while i "get to work"

for the new guys that's just starting. make sure you run the Noobie quest, specially the weapon ones, I know the DE mages and human mages can do the mage and warrior quest for weapons, I suggest that you do that and sell them to the store and up grade to a new weapon.
OK,
Having recently levelled both a DE nuker and LE knight to 30, I can tell you without doubt...
The melees are completely lying about early levels.
Unbuffed LE knights with 36 Str walk up and 3 or 4 hit things in melee with mid-grade (x2 soulshot) D weapons. This isn't even using a bow...
If you fight greens you can 2 or 3-hit.
My Elven knight has not required rest of any kind ever and has soloed the whole way.
He seems invulnerable as 5 whites and a pink cant even kill him.
My LE knight has advanced as quickly as my DE nuker with considerably lesser equipment to 30 at least... a combination of ZERO downtime and runspeed compared to my nuker results in overall killspeed being about the same.
Keep in mind everything on my LE knight is storebought and not a single piece is enchanted.
Melee does need some tuning for C5, but from 1-30 don't listen to the "nerf everyone but me" crowd. Mages advance the same as melee for awhile.
Levelling a LE wizard ironman is about 5 minutes of nuking and 10 minutes of downtime... bring a good book or a recharger.
I'm not lying about the lowever levels on melees, I just leveled enough characters to do all of the level 20 class change quests (I did write-ups of the quests and they will be posted on Stratics soon) I..however it requires several things. Newbie buffs and newbie soulshots.
Notice, he's talking about newbie stuff in his OP, we were not talking about a reroll where you have no newbie benefits and no soulshots.
I was ironman, unbuffed and untwinked... I did these two on a bet from someone... Thats right... no starter equipment and no buffs from 7x toons. No 2nd boxed buffer/healer and nothing that a new player would have but my previous game knowledge. (Most of which for level 1-30 can be gained through fan sites.)
I must admit I have very little to no experience with the newbie benefits. All I know is which buffs they get.
Neither seem to enhance one group or the other better once all benefits are gained.
1-30 is very fast and very easy.
Neither mages nor melee have a harder time as both are quite capable and mages do not have access to the things which are currently pushing their cast speed into the 1200+ zone. When it takes 2-3 seconds to wind up a spell, and its still a two-hit, the melees have nothing to complain about.
Sure the mages kill fast, but so do the melee.
Melee swings three-four times at 22adena per swing = 66-88 adena and they drop 140+ adena per kill.
Nuker nukes twice at 102 adena per shot and they drop 140 adena... melee wins by a long shot.
Mages still kill faster due to range, but have downtime (even DE nukers), Melee to 30 never have downtime.
1-30 the mages and melee are even.
FYI, the lie we are talking about is the "melee is so hard/slow" at least from 1-30. I am not pointing the finger at any one person or player. I am trying to dispel a myth that has a basis of truth in 55+ gameplay... but is not true for earlier levels.
Just keep with it man...but the grind will be harder than WoW.
When you hit about lvl 60 it will take you near 7 hours to make a level. But as long as you are enjoying it, there is no problem...lol.
And like I said, if you wanna level faster pick a Dark Elf mage. They hit much harder. The only problem I see is that you already got you new player buffs so it would probally be slower...lol...those buffs are helping you out A LOT...
BTW I don't remember what server you said you were on, but if you are serious about sticking with the game and you are on Kain Server, let me know...Once you get past lvl 25 and stop getting those buffs I can help you with bringing my buddy down there who is a lvl 62 SE to give you a helping hand. Also, if you are on Kain server check IndiannaBones post because he will help you with gear and Shots, along with a bit of adena....
I don't want to make you think you should reroll...lol...to kain though. I am sure there are helpful people whichever server you choose.
this is so stupid to even bother bringing up. 1-20 can last less than a day who cares.
In a day?
With Crap gear?
With non existing budget?
For someone who's brand new to the game?
Without knowing a thing about the game mechanics?
Lol. Pls stop now before you make any embarrasing statements.
Lol. Pls, you need to stop with the embarassing statements.
A mage with no grade spiritshots and crappy gear will level roughly the same speed from 1-20 or even a bit faster than most melee characters from 1-20. Also, you wont be getting hit so you dont even need to waste much money on heal pots.
Besides, even with crap gear and spiritshots or crap gear for a warrior and soulshots it would still only take a few days to level to 20.
If you are new to the game, have crap gear and no adena you are going to have problems from level 1 to level 76, thats all there is to say about it.

Only if you play the same way that you did from 1-20. The game changes a lot after lvl 40. In some ways it gets easier, and in others it gets harder. If you get into a clan, gear becomes a bit less of an issue and the grind passes more quickly because you have people to talk to and goof around with...but then again at 60+ and even more so at 68+ you will start really feeling the grind to the point that it seems not even worth it. But then again, you can break this grind with pvp and raids, ect. ect.
A person brand new to the game, blazes through the 1st 20 levels spamming the Soulshots and not doing any quests.
Then when you get to 20, no biggie. You set up a scam shop or you IGE some adena, and you're good. Do it again at 40, 52 and 61 and you're golden.
Then when you're 60+, you come here and make a few threads whyning how there are soo many bots in the game, but after the post is made, go back to IGE and get a bit more adena.

How can I forget all of that. I'm sowwy.
haha, are you talking to me? I have an SR and you can level 1-20 pretty easy not using any soulshots at all. OMG they make archers buy bone arrows so they should give them arrows for free and upgrade noobie shots to bsps for novice!
Just because you don't agree with me doesn't mean I am wrong. Same thing for you being right. A post like this was just uncalled for though.

No, I'm not talking to you directly. I'm just saying this is what happens when a person brand new to the game "Blazes" through the 1st 20 levels, is all I'm saying. =)

7 hours to a level? Jesus man, what kind of steroids are you shooting?
It's easy in a duo or trio on the right mobs. Don't talk about the grind until 74 (because you will go insane the last level to subclass!), then again at 77+ where 0.6% per hour is considered pretty decent
eh, 1-20 has changed so much since I started in c2. newbie bonuses help the grind, a lot. oddly, however, they don't seem to help the mage classes as well. they help you hit harder and cast faster, but do nothing to reduce your downtime. an oversite, perhaps. I'm guessing c5 will help that, the new instant items should make resting for mp a thing of the past 1-20. as it stands, a melee can just charge right through 1-20 no real problem, and nukers should be able to as well next chronicle.
I don't necessarily call that a good thing, however. if you start from scratch, funding your gear can be a real problem. out of curiosity, I am raising a DE assassin on hinde (lvl 18, so fighter still...) to see how much the adena grind has changed since I was small. the answer is, well, if you go charging willy nilly from 1-20 concentrating only on leveling, you're going to be lvl 20 with mid grade to top end ng gear and about 100k adena to spend.
I know better, and I'm earning adena in preperation. I'll have to spend some time farming seeds and fishing (payout is low, but steady, about 50k per hour of fishing), and running what quests I can. (btw, NCSoft good job on neutering the Grim Collector quest. I made 300k or more back when I raised Cathrynn in C2, lvl 15 to 21. now, I'll be lucky to make 1/10th that. wouldn't want a quest to actually pay out something worth while, now would we?)
I'm beginning to understand why ebaying adena is so common. it is a matter of time and effort. you can hit lvl 20 in a day, yup. but you can't do so AND afford your d grade gear. so instead of spending hours on end grinding out the adena you need, it is so much simpler just to plop down about 10 dollars and get 10 milion adena delivered and keep right on grinding to lvl 40. you do that, and you'll still have no idea how to make adena when you hit c grades, so the cycle repeats.
meh, and now I'm really wandering off topic, so I'll stop.
to OP; for a nuker you whine too much; if i meet you i will pk you a bit to learn the grind.
till 40 you can 1shot almost all green mobs if you have sol++ and empower. (and not LE). i could say that you can one shot a lot of yellows but...
granted newbie buffs incl vr4 for fighters which makes no downtime at all. w/ emp for mages you should be 1hitting things and walk. pretty much no downtime too.
the real grind starts at about 72 or so w/ 76 and esp. 77 being slow, slow, slow...
and btw the uber version of your 2xdmg shots ruin the game...
