need info on wizard summoning pets?

Hi I was thinking of using sp on the skill that summons Kat the Kat ......I am a lvl 22 wizard and I was just wandering if it would be worth my while buying a summons its just I notice that it says it absorbs 90% of xp and that seems very bad to me......maybe I have been mislead by this statement .....can someone explain the advantages and any disadvantages with summoning a creature? (any xp loss with an example)

Thanks
Razek
You have access to two summons when not a pure summoner, a -90% xp one and a -30% xp one (which, incidentally, the pure summoners use for leveling, so complaining about the exp loss is stupid :P ). The summons have differing abilities, and while I don't remember the human summons' abilities, I believe one of them at least recharges. While not a pure summoner, the reuse timer for the summons is several hours, so they're not viable for consistent use.

However, getting the summons can benefit you. Even though they do eat experience, they can help you exp non-stop for a while. When you run out of mp, whip out a summon, let it recharge you or tank for you and melee while waiting for your mp, then resume nuking once the summon expires (since sitting = 0xp, using the -90% summon to exp while regening > 0xp. And it's good for adena farming since you get 10x the adena/xp than normally). If you're a shot addict, don't bother, though. It takes a long time before the pet ss become profitable.
Kat the Cat takes 30% of your xp, and recharges your mp. Mew takes 90% and has a nuke.

either way, neither are particularly useful pre-40, though you can summon Kat and just have him recharge you. he'll last about 80 minutes doing that. otherwise, unless you plan on goign warlock, I wouldn't waste the sp, you'll need it for other things.

and a -30% xp one (which, incidentally, the pure summoners use for leveling, so complaining about the exp loss is stupid :P ).

Actually, until C4, that 30% loss was a main factor in one of the biggest problems in the summoner catagory, and half of the solution was giving 10% and 5% summons. Complain away!
I have a friend who just started, and was going ES and she uses the unicorns whenever possible because the MP regen on the boxer is easily makes up for the lost XP. So the 30% one isn't actually useless pre 40.
First of all to make sure you aren't confused, it should be Mew the Cat that takes 90% exp and Kat the Cat that takes 30% and recharges.

I can't remember when precisely, but I believe it was in C3 that the re-use timer for wizards was reduced to either 1 hour or 40 minutes (1 hour - the 20 minutes of use). So they are available for pretty consistent use (1/3 or 1/4th of your time). Unless this has changed in C4 again without me knowing about it, which doesn't seem likely.

When I was leveling a Dark Wizard in C3 I found the - 30% summon very handy and if not at least a fun break from my constant nuking.

If you play it right the 30% summon can:
- save you (B)sps (the savings you make should at least be equal to the costs of the crystals the summon takes and ofcourse the summon should not use ss himself)
- make you hunt faster or more mobs/minute, since again if you play it right you don't have to rest at all those 20 min
- help you seed aggro mobs or make seeding non-aggro mobs less tedious (get summon to hit the mob and keep aggro, seed, nuke (,nuke) instead of run to mob, seed, run away, nuke, nuke) and can also help you do some fun aoe (for example the 1/2 hp mobs outside gludio) although I tested the last method in C3 before the aoe nerf.

The only major disadvantage I can think of (except the - exp ofcourse) is that you have to be quite alert because you are basically controlling another character with somewhat clumsy controls, but once you get used to it it's not all that difficult most of the time and ofcourse the hotbar helps :).

So if you do play it right you can use the 30% summon for some fun and nice (and cheaper) leveling and the 90% summon for farming, though I would say that the 30% summon is certainly worth your sp more then the 90% one and that you should always get your main attack skills and important passives (weapon mastery etc.) before your summon or your summon buffs/heals/recharges as a wizard.

Thx :D, got kinda let down by C4 so I left for a while, now I haven't got an internet connection and C5 sleep nerf for my poor sorc and clerics *cries*(to OP: don't let this get you down gimped nukers ftw, unless you're going necro ofcourse :p), but I'm coming back :D.
