Please Stop the Acronyms!

Player Questions Started Last reply 15 posts
I played L2 at the launch and then played WoW for 2 years like lots of other posters...All I ask is that L2 Players please stop speaking in acronynms! I don't spell well but we need answers and not answers that involve stuff like ELS+Elven Long Sword! Please post in non-acronyms! If a guy/gal asks a question, please just answer it in normal speak! All I'm askling for, it will help all of the newb players.!
lol.. yeah.. for some reason people forget that new players have no idea what you are saying if you say "first you need to finish 1st class transfer, get yourself some EWD and don't forget to load up on SS. Then head to ROD.

Heck.. I even get confused when people use acronyms for some ingame stuff.

QFT.
actually sir E i don't know what that one means either.
QFT = Quoted for truth.

Acronyms will be there, no matter what. People are to lazy to type out the full name when you can say "TI" and know what's being spoken about.
quoted for truth. took me a bit to figure that one out first time I saw it.

ya know, at first the acronyms completely confused me. now, I hardly notice them. occasionally I get something I don't at first recognize, but context and experience fill in the gaps readily enough.

I try to be careful when speaking to new people. usually, I'll use both the acronym and the name it stands for, so I can a) be sure htey understand me and b) slowly teach them the common acronyms. "you need to go to RoD, Ruins of Despair, but make sure youre carrying enough ss, soulshots." usually I get at least one "Ohhh, so that is what that acronym means!" :)
So this one time, at band camp, I was playing my OD and this SH comes up with a SoES and hits me with CDL and I was all like, WTF? I mean i am in A grade... So I activated VS and my other toggles and went to town. She almost had me , but Frenzy FTW!

(This story is not true, I just had to use some) :p

Heh.. I thought it meant quite f'n true....... either one works tho, I think.
I think you have to get used to the game and the way pple talk in game fast. The entire server is using acronyms and it is impossible to ask the masses to change.

On top of that, do not forget L2 features does not encourage us to type everything we want to express. It cannot support super long sentence especially for the binded macros. And if u type too fast u get chat ban.

My suggestion to you is let the person u are talking to know that you have problem with the terms used. I think most(legit) players will able to reply back with proper english, grammer and spellings.

Some of the things I can hel pis this :

Common words used :

WTS/WTB = Want to Sell/Buy
923 = (dun ask me, u will be sensored if u ever type in chat)
PC = Price Check
WTT = Want to Trade
[Grade Letter]SS = [Grade Letter]Soul Shots
[Grade Letter]SPS = [Grade letter Spirit Shots]
[Grade Letter]BSPS = [Grade Letter]Blessed Spirit Shots
LF = Looking For
LFG = Looking FOr Group
LFR = Looking for Raid
RTG = Ready to go
PM = Personal Message

Class :
E(used in first letter) = Elve/Elven
E(Used in the 2nd letter) = Elder
O = Oracle
S = Shilien
DE = Dark Elve
LE = Light Elve
Human = Human ^^V
Wiz = Wizard
Glad = Gladiator
BD = Blade Dancer
PP = Prophet
Bish = Bishop
PR = Power Ranger?(can someone help? lolx)
SR = Silver Ranger

Weapons :
ELS = Elven Long Sword
SOR = Sword of Revolution
AOBA = Art of Battle Axe

....I wonder why am I typing all these lolx. Can anyone add to the list ? ^^V

you kids and your MTV. "QfT" <--- by SirE.
Acronyms aren't a problem for me until I hit those people who don't know how to spell actual words (or their abbreviations). The first time I encounterd "scor", I spent about 800 million hours trying to figure out what SCOR might mean, which was mostly attributable to the fact that the people who make these sorts of mistakes don't speak English well to begin with. But seriously; if you don't know what ELS means, you don't need one. And I don't know many newbies who can afford any of the things acronyms tend to refer to anyway. So what's the problem? Everyone learns in time.

All I have to say about acronyms: gg L2, BW ftw. <3 bsps
