Polearming: How bad is phys resist?

Is it worth transferring to a higher level spot or altogether out of a catacomb if there are no rooms without phys resist mobs at a given level?

Is it worth transferring to a higher level spot or altogether out of a catacomb if there are no rooms without phys resist mobs at a given level?

Yes...that's what I do with my BH.
as long as you got VR you can pole any where. I recumend cat's cause necros are Phys. resist.

1/2 hp aren't good for it cause they hit alot harder, but they are good for Nukers, cause nukers can take them out fast.

I think the XP in cat's are better then field mobs... DVC is great for a high lvl WL. so is GC.

order of what would be good to lvl at with a pole, NoS > HC > PN > CoB > then at about 48ish, DV till about 52 > CoA/Cem/GC > till about 59. Then start with CoA back rooms and CoW, at 62+ DVC.

Make sure you have VR 3 when you get past CoB, you will need the regen rate of it. Zerk is good cause the P atk bonus and atk speed make up for the loss in P df. and with VR you wont miss it much.
Not all necros are physical resist, and not all catacombs are not physical resist. The path I've laid out for myself to avoid annoying mobs so far is like this:

20-25 Holy Land rooms of Necropolis of Sacrifice
26-29 Vault rooms of Necropolis of Sacrifice
30-37 Front rooms of Pilgrims Necropolis
38 Grave rooms in Heretics Catacomb
39 ??? well shucks, both Heretics and Pilgrims have physical resist mobs there.

I will only have VR 1. I'm a bit worried about switching over into branded or worshipper's, since that will put me a whole grade under the mobs, and that tends to make a very palpable difference.

I'm not sure what a good spot would be in that case, or if I should just suck it up and stick with heretics for the one level.
At 38 you can move to the first room of CoB.(thats what I do, 38-44ish) then I start moving to the back of CoB, there is a spot on the back right side of CoB that has mobs of the high 40's and 3 rooms that tie together, great spot for poling!

If you get tired of NoS, go to AC and pull them.
I can't get tired of NoS. I live there. :)

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll go to branded early then. Should be Good Times Getting Beat On. I'm still looking at the other possibilities for afterwards. :)
like I was saying tho... when poling you really need atlest lvl 2 VR.. specailly once you get to upper 40's your going to need VR 3 to keep your HP up.

get a PP thats atlest 52-56 to swing by and buff you out for like 2 hours you will lvl from 20-30 in about that tim eif you keep at it.

I knew a OL that lvl'd like mad in NoS got like 8 lvls in a day or two, but he didn't keep at it the whole time.

what are you lvling up, a BH,WS, WL, Dest??
A BH with VR and some health potions/healing (not much is needed at the levels you're talking about) shouldn't have that much trouble with PR monsters. If you only take one or two per pull, it can actually be helpful as it gives you a good "anchor" for your attacks who is likely to die slightly after everything else.

Now, if you pull 8 of them, expect to get hurt *shrug*
By the late 40ies, I will have VR 2 - it's actually an SE I'm levelling. The original plan was to use a BH, but after much thought and some asking around it appears the WL simply has the best killspeed with poles, and that's what I wanted (I'm a bit in doubt, since I don't know the effect that Frenzy could have on the killspeed, but anyone I asked said WL for poling :p ).

I don't have a PP I could ask to come help me out, really, so I'm stuck with haste 2 pots and level 35 cleric buffs in conjunction with what the SO/SE can do.
Phys resist mobs aren't always bad, even for Patk using classes. I've noticed that for example Lilim Slayers give considerably more XP than the other mobs from that area. So basically you just get higher XP for killing it longer. I'll check later what the XP difference is.
Phys resist aren't too bad..

Mel. work on your prophet if you stick to it for a few days in CoB you can have her to 48-52 in no time.

when you pole (in CoB) make sure you stay away from the left side in the back cause those mobs stun. it's 3'rd room back on the left side, and back... those make the hardest to kill.

WL is the best with a pole..Destro should be good to they have pole masteries, never really seen any one playing one tho.

My BH with his +4 str dye, I could hold off a WL from taking argo from me, cept when I had to sweep. had a +6 orcish glave with CS on it.

Don't forget that a SO doing pole will get a penalty. has to do with acc and arc.
It's an SO who's in group with a WL pet, that was written badly - he will be standing at the side first with some old 107's from Lloth and later with Mielle's soulfire dirk to heal the WL.

I have tried grouping Laeska to pick up groups, and in all honesty, I have never been in a group with her that didn't suck three ways for EXP. She gains more with Mielle than with any of the bumbling, fumbling D Graders that I can find in Heretics or Pilgrims, despite the level difference.

ETA: While I have you all here - between a room with Res Phys and a cancel-casting mob, which should I take? I figure res phys is more consistant and less dangerous (I wouldn't wanna lose both shield and VR in the middle of a pull).
when pulling mobs, try to stay away from mage mobs and stuners..cancel ones aren't good..but they are less seen.

I forgot but you can also pole in EV in your mid 50's...and 40's mob lvls very that much there.
Rooms with stunners or chain nukers (single nukes are OK I think) are marked with a big fat no on my list.

Here's my result:

Necropolis of Sacrifice
20-25 Front
26-29 Middle Type B
Pilgrims Necropolis
30-37 Front
Heretics Catacomb
38 Middle Type B
39 Back (has phys resist)
Catacomb of the Branded
40-45 Front
46-48 Middle Type B (has phys resist)
Worshippers Necropolis
49-51 Back
Catacomb of the Apostate
52-55 Front
56-57 Middle Type B (has phys resist)

One or two of them have cancel mobs too, but I'll see how I deal with that then - and if necessary move into phys resist rooms instead. :)
Heya...

I have a Warlord and I've avoided phys resist mobs as much as possible, or when you have those rooms, do agro pulls only. I find it very hard now at my lvl (end 60's) to find good places to hunt. The mobs using cancel aren't really a problem since they only tend to do it if you get buffed during a pull (back mobs of CoA for example).

The route I took to this point was:
NoS
HC
Branded
Apostate
Ascetis

Sometimes we did a witches party, but then I would do 3 rooms in one pull, agro only if we were in duo. With a 2nd pole I could do full room pulls (phys resist). Agro only means no stones, so that's only good for the real exp addicts.
At this point I'm out of places to lvl. All are nukers/phys resist or simply too high lvl. Doing blue mobs is what I'm doing most of the time, but if some other AoE-er knows where to go, please share! :)

Oh, and destroyers own with a pole, as they do with just about any weapon. If they switch on frenzy they practicly 4-hit those 4xhp mobs with ease... Only real advantage a WL has is 'provoke' to pull faster and our AoE stun.

Just as a side suggestion.. Forgotten Temple is a good place to pole as well. XP might not be as good as catacombs and necros (I havent realy tested this), but it sure does look prettier in there!
Theres 2x mobs there, some of which do nukes. I head to the very back in the water section and pole the mobs on the bridge between the fire and water sides. Back there theres a few group mobs, and I managed to pole there with another dorf with nothing but GHP and GSAP pots.
would you say that a destroyer is better money maker with a pole then a WL?

I know that WL is great at making money, and so I was thinking of making one, but if destro is better..I'd rather do that to farm.
Well,

TBH I wouldn't know. The destroyer I lvl with hates the fact that he has to run in and hit most mobs, while I can go in, provoke the room and run back to my corner like a frightened little schoolgirl. The destroyer probably kills the mobs a little faster, so maybe it comes down to about the same killspeed.
However, if you're a destroyer you have more hp and some usefull low hp skills. We warlords get a passive the ups our patk a littlewhen we go below some hp level, but we're dead anyway if the SE fails. The Destroyer throws on frenzy and his patk goes through the roof. His hp is refilled from VR effect then in a few hits, and top that with the UD-like skill they have (and they can still move) and you got yourself a very nice AoE machine.
Also, if some ppl decide to make trouble, you can put up a fight. With my WL I'm kinda forced to be a carebear, but since I am one I picked the right class. :D

If you want to make money with a pole, the obvious choice is the BH...
as long as they aint got aoe/untargeted sweep, that aint the obvious choice...
If you're pulling catacomb rooms, sweeping everything is quite possible.

I do suppose a warsmith is a viable alternative money-making choice - but then, everyone and their grandma is a warsmith.
