Hello mates. Well I havent posted in a while, last night I was in the letolizard plains grinding away as usual, trying to get my DE PK to lvl37 (almost there). I believe the in-game time was around 10:00 a.m. and the sun was nice and glowing and the grassy plains were looking attractive enough to stay there a while and do some good wholesome lizard killing. Anyhow, I was wondering if others feel a little similar to this. Now I understand that this game is NOT for the casual or your average gamer, its been repeated all over the forums for players looking to start this game that majority of your time will be spent in grinding the same mobs over and over again, to some this might not be appealing while to others it'll be attracting. Fortunately Im able to find some time every night to play for at least an hour or so (of course the wifey tend to not like this).
Now Ive only started playing this game a little over a month ago, maybe Im still far away from getting exhausted by all the repeated grind but last night while playing I started to imagine what if I was actually inside the L2 world on the letolizard plains. I played around with the camera angles while my toon caused damage on the mobs, I tried to set my view between the high grass, the flowers, over the hills, between the wooden huts architecture, just to get an idea as to how it might feel or look like if one was to actually experience this. Now I dont want to sound all [censored] or weird, specially this coming from a 28 year old, but I believe when playing like this, the time seems to just go by quickly and you have more fun. I saw a few other players doing their thing here and there while I did my thing, luckily no one got in any one else's way and what not.
I just thought to share some of my grind experiences with you all; last but not least, I find that its more fun to grind outside instead of the catacombs. I still think that the L2 world is far superior (to other major mmorpgs), when it comes to landscaping, atmosphere, aura, overall capturing of mother nature, specially when you think about the game play - filled with chaos, danger and excitement at ever corner.
I dont mind the grind. But you can just look at my sig and see im in no hurry to be high level. I think alot of players face sort of a grind over load. eh I dont think I couldplay that way.
To add something relevant: I somehow enjoy mindlessly killing the same monsters over and over again in this game as opposed to some others. It's kind of addicting.
Move your buff bar over your exp bar, then it becomes impossible to see your exp.
Just make sure you keep the buffs up :P
you know something, I never thought of that. that is actually a very good idea, i'm sure in the higher levels it'll definetely help (i know i'll have tendencies to watch my xp bar).
<3<3<3<3 just like i see this game... aaaaall the way enjoying the views and the way the killing works, monster's emotes, landscape.
I hate necros/catas ... i fall asleep there.. just.. cant..take..that..boredom
So im outside and probably will stay outside and if i need AA.. i suppose i'd just have to go and buy it :P
when i grind , i think it's important that i set goals , when i reach these goals i do something fun , like shopping in the towns or going traveling , checking out the scenery ...
never grind to level , it's the way to get a burnout. If you level too fast you will miss the biggest part of the game.I play games to have fun , if you are not having fun while playing it , take a break from the game , stop playing for a couple of hours . When you get back everything will still be there.
or as the op suggested , playing with options is also fun.
Ah yes, the game can be more fun if you think of it like an adventure ^^
Mindlessly assisting in a cata group makes me fall asleep as well.. unless I'm pulling, then I have lots of fun, I love to "tank" and pull mobs, as an archer ^^ Healers doesn't always like me, but I can't help making mobs angry at me BUAHAHAHA!
... unless I'm pulling, then I have lots of fun, I love to "tank" and pull mobs, ...
my sentiments exactly, i'm all for tanking (ofcourse smart/logical tanking, not collecting all mobs than one can handle = kill all in party); but yes, being a 'panZer' or an 'abrams' is all good.
Sounds like the OP found the way your suppose to feel when your grinding. Kudos. Its the only thing that keeps me sane when im killing. The trick is to loose yourself in it, and not just look at it like a bunch of pixels. If you have an imagination, if doesnt matter how old your are

Tell em the truth..
You have the luxury of listening to me tell stories and sing songs on vent. :)
in a clan i used to be in, one of the players read the entire game history over TS one day becasue she was someplace where she couldnt play L2. it was an awesome experince, to fight mobs and listen to a well-written storyline at the same time.

Now that's how ya break up the grind!!
The grind is ... well ... the grind. :p
Some days for me are better than others. My work, and school, drive me to my computers in search of mindless grinding as a relief from real life issues. The people are also a big help. Our group has been together for awhile now and chatting on TS helps break up the monotony. Changing hunting locations and group configurations helps somewhat too. And lastly, changing characters to break up the grind helps a little. I recently returned to playing my other main, a WS. Different playstyle from my HE and makes me pay attention. And lest I forget, engaging in the different quests helps break things up when you're working towards a short-term goal.
For all it's quirks, L2 has managed to keep my attention since prelude. Quite an amazing thing actually. :)

now that is just awsome stuff =) any chance of getting that script? would mos def like to read it.
The scienary of L2 is awesome, it truely is. I keep on changing hunt spots to break the countless hours of mindless grinding. I also try to get a quest that goes with the mobs I hunt. It gives you a better goal then seeing your xp bar going up with 0.03 each kill.
Once of the best quests imo is the jewel / shield part quest taken from the priest in Aden church. The one you have to collect 60 items. Instead of watching you xp bar up, I do a count down from 60 to 0 collect quest items.
The rewards of the quest is not that great but still its a free gift sinse you are killing the mobs anyways. you can do the quest in 1 or 2 hours max. Nice time frame to finish a quest and meanwhile you get your % as well.
On top of that you get some stolen inf ore as well from that other quest.

Hmmm, pre 40 grind...oh the days I sometimes revisit with an alt.
Ha, I don't grind anymore. Basicallly I have given up on the game... You may ask, how can you not grind? Well it is simple, I do this. I go on clan raids, and I party with friends on TS. Experience to lvl my toon is just something that happens...while I do these other things... I use to grind, but now in a big clan...I don't! LOL! Basically I tried grinding after I hit lvl 60 and I got bored...then I blew up my SoV going +5...not really something I would recommend...so to make a long story short! DON'T GRIND!

I do that all the time ! :D
That's why it's called a MMORPG in my opinion.
I really dont see Lineage as a video game where you watch an animated pixel-made character moving on a computer screen, but as a real RolePlaying game, in which you have an alter self leaving and breathing in an alternate world...
That's where the fun is for me !
And that's why i've been playing for more than 6 months and i'm still lv40 :p
And dont worry about your age, i'm 33 :o
