I have recently created my third char.... :o I am planning on making him a human wizard, but should i go necro or warlock? which of the two offer a greater ability to solo? which have better group benefits? and which is best in pvp?
Oh and since everyone knows i love to talk to much on the game and ask alot of questions i want to say that the forums here are very very helpful (the most help ive gotten from any other mmo). I have decided to go WC on my orc, PW or SR on my elf and that when i have the money ill box a prophet or similiar one day.
necro for pvp. even the c5 nerfs won't effect that too badly. very good debuffs, plus anchor, plus summons plus transfer pain plus nukes.
for parties, probably the warlock. when they hit 56 they get a summon specifically designed for parties, and they do get mass cubics. not really sure here, really.
solo, they are about equal, I would say, perhaps, the warlock has an edge, but I may just be a touch biased. :)
Necro pets look cooler than Warlock pets imo. Warlock gets kitty cats and cubics, both of which suck compared to Necro pets. Also, Warlock mass cubic summon is described as costing 20 crystals. If that's accurate, it could get real expensive real fast.
No i havent considered that class. i never really enjoyed the non pet mage classes in any of the mmos ive played before. dunno why i just havent. but i am open for any suggestion.

Go necro.
That floating "thing" that they get is worth it alone. Makes me want to sub necro (which I'm not).
So no one has any links to screens of the pets? i myself google'd it and found nothing good yet. will keep trying and i will be going necro then. Thanks again for all the great info.

Summons are kinda fun, but it gets a little boring not to have any attack skills/spells at all.. if I were to sub a summoner now, I'd prolly choose a necro, they have the best summon with Cursed man it seems..
Higher base critrate and patk.. a buddy levels alot with his summon now, but it's very expensive, like almost 3k patk with BD Oo;;; That's some serious VR effect, 3-4 shotting mobs in 70+ cata if it crits enough lol
Necromancer pets dont do anything, they just follow em round absorbing damage for the necro, only the Warlock (ES and PS for the other races) actually uses his pets to fight with.
Ok Lothlian, so your saying that a necro's pet just stands there and does little or no dam and holds aggro and takes the hits for a necro? isnt this the point of a necro's pet? i thought that you wanted to have the pet to hold aggro while you nuke and dot the mob you are fighting. just like some mages have roots that holds the mob in a spot and does basically the same thing. it is faster with roots sometimes but it requires more work. I just dont understand your critism against necros....... you are basically acting like you want to criticize them yet you say they do exactly what they should do.
Ok so he is saying that having a pet that does practically nothing while maybe useful is boring to him. And i dont understand why you wouldnt consider a person that calls forth the undead.
One way to kind of tell what a class is intended to be is to look at the level 39 class quest they have to do. All Summoners do the same quest but the Necromancer does the same class quest as the Shillien Knight and Dark Avenger.
So it seems to me from that, they are intended as a class that uses dark magic but has tanking capabilities (via their summons) as well.
Necromancers don't really need their summons for pve, although maybe if they're CDL'ing (curse death link - powerful nuke when you have next to no hp). They use "transfer pain" so that the summon absorbs some of the damage they're taking. But necros are powerful nukers, which is why they don't use their summons for xp (summons take some of the xp). They're very useful for pvp though because of transfer pain. And cursed man can even do some nice damage, as previously mentioned (aside from lookng cool as hell!).

OMG i cant believe that i didnt find that earlier. what kills me is that i did a google search for lineage 2 necromancer pet screenshots and didnt find that link. The pets look awesome though. that sucks that they take xp though. So i guess the Warlocks dont take that much xp from lvling though.....
You have to get them from players. Crystals are made by artisans or warsmiths (depending on the level of crystal) by taking equipment and 'crushing' it. D grade equipment gives D crystals, C grade C crystals, etc. (there is no NG crystals)
So, you either have to find a warsmith you trust to crush some stuff for you, or you have to buy them.
Ok so he is saying that having a pet that does practically nothing while maybe useful is boring to him. And i dont understand why you wouldnt consider a person that calls forth the undead.
Necromancers, along with proper summoners, get a skill called Transfer Pain, which transfers some of the damage done to them to the summon. So if they get hit for 1000 damage, the necro takes 500 and the summon takes 500. That is what a necros pet is for, not for fighting.
As explained above, indeed a warsmith or artisan can Crystalize (or crush as stated before) gear for you in order to collect the crystals that gear is worth.
Normally the fair artisans or warsmiths will not ask for a fee to do that for you if you give them the gear. But if you don'thave gear and recuire to buy out some of the artisans or warsmiths stock, then yes it will be more expensive.
I think D grade crystals are around 600-680 adenas a piece (need to check latest server prices but that's what I still recall). They C grades are between 2700-3200 adenas a piece.
I suggest that if you will require crystals for your class to keep any graded gear you get in full drop and have it crystalized. I know that Aarika of our clan does that free of charge.
So a pet doesnt hold aggro and take dam while you kill? that is exactly what a tank player does in game........ it would be like grouping with someone.
depends. with a warlock, and the other full summoners (necro's are hybrid summoner/nukers), our summons tank for us. we don't really have a choice, thanks to the summon/pet agro bonus and the fact that the summon does increasingly more damage than we do, two hits is all it takes for agro to transfer to the summon, maybe three. on the bright side, summoners have the best heal in the game (even at my lowish level, about 1k hps when bsps'ed), AND most cases the summons have an outstanding amount of hitpoints. unfortunately, their pdef and mdef are a bit lacking, to put it mildly.
(ya know, I know warlock summons are a bit, well, cutesy, but I STILL prefer them over the necros. gotta love Pimp the Cat, er, I mean Kai the Cat.)
as for the xp penalty and stuff:
Kat takes 30% xp and a relatively small number of D crystals (about 12 at my level), and is my main levleing summon. with pet soulshots, it isn't uncommon for me to get about 5%-6% while solo per Kat (approximately 20 minutes). very useful when soloing high damage mobs, as he can recharge my mp if I need to do a lot of heals, and he has the most hps of all my summons. fairly slow movement and 30% xp penalty means he's less useful in a party, however.
Kai takes 10% exp and 5 c crystals. if I'm in a party, he's my choice, as he doesn't cut into my xp as badly. also useful solo, if I don't mind the greater cost. (15k per cat vs 7.2k for Kat). although his pattk is higher, his hps are about half of Kat's, and he has no mp recharge ability (has a nifty reflect damage self buff though), so keeping him healed can be problematic. if I'm willing to waste adena and spam pet ss as well as css for myself as well as cubics, I can turn out a fairly spectacular xp/hr (I've managed as much as 25% -30% before). it just costs upwards of 100k adena for every hour I do this.
Mew is my farming/PvP summon 90% xp taken, but only 1 dcrystal. she has a fairly powerful nuke, and pattk much like kat. whenever I'm traveling from point to point and not actively leveling, she followes behind. if a summoner is caught by agro or a PK'er w/o a cat, you have one dead summoner in short order. also, i tend to fish with her behind me as well, feeding all the sea monsters I catch to her. also, if I am in bad need of adena, I can farm seeds on green mobs without shots or pots for hours on end with Mew, and only expend a few D crystals.
just my epxeriences. i don't have queen yet, so no opinion there.
(2 more levels until i get kitty UD, though. can't wait for that.)
I have and still occasionally do lvl with my pet as a necro.
My friend and i were trioing 8th floor. 2 Necros with pets + bd + out of party se/se/pp. The xp/blueprints is insane. Also you can duo catacombs with your pet and an se. You will just sleep and fire a nuke or 2 at phy resist and you can go nonstop.
If you enjoy playing with a pet and haveing good nukes, necromancers can do it. This talk of them not using their pets to lvl is only partly true. They don't use their pets to lvl solo. To solo they should always be nukeing. However make friends with an se and a bd... and you can rip catacombs a part.
Well im thinking of going warlock then. i like the pets it summons. but i hate the fact of the 6 hour resummon timer... i hope they get rid of that one day.
KK i want to say in knew that but i dont want you guys to think i am a smart ***.....I meant that is kind of dumb for them to have a 6 hour timer on a pet that only lasts for 20 mins. i hope that they would change that.

The idea of the sub 40 skills is to give you a taste of the upcoming classes and then allowing you to choose.
So, as a sub 20 Dark Elf mage, I got healing spells and nukes. Then at 20 I got to decide: Healer/Nuker. When I hit 40 I had the choice of: Nuker/Summoner.
So there is a sort of sense to it. Only "true" summoners get to control the denizens "beyond the pale" for any length of time and have the power to summone them whenever they want to.
Ok i understand the fact that they need to experience all the sub class aspects, but not the full power of the summoner classes.
Ok newer question.
Anyone know what is going on with mana pots? im hearing that we are getting them and some are saying we wont get them on english servers. Any info will be great.
