Best Archer race/path?

I want to start an archer. What is the best way to go? Human? Light Elf? etc? And what would the end class transfer be?
human hawkeye <period> ::my opinion::
depends what u wana do. run from mobs or be abe to take a few extra hits.

The arches work in this way. Hawkeye slowest of the 3 but can take most damgae higer resit to sunn attacks and snipe is cool skill. Phantom Ranger is the strongest by and has hex wich can help greatly but is esaly stunned and has lowest hp of 3. Silver ranger is fastest and best dex so Crit ++ but weakest and enalge can ruin some one whose chasing u day
I think I'll go Hawkeye as I have a lvl 12 human fighter right now. Should I use light armor or heavy in the lower lvls?
Depends on your money. If you got a lot, go light and use dagger/bow. Bow till you run out of mp, then switch to dagger. Otherwise use hvy. Manticore set adds mp so if you can afford it, go manticore till 40. After that its all plated leather :D, and if you cant afford the boots, then theca.
use heavy till 20 then u get penaly for using it so stick with light go Salamander Skin d grade = way bttter than manticore and get a dagger dont worry about bow till late 30's and u should be fine.

your c grade armor choices are fine but what a wate of money for manticore it gives u what 90 mp
come on slamander is better pdef cheeper and looks cooler
I don't know if you've seen a DE female in manti, but mine is hot as hell, especially with raccoon ears on :D.

And manticore adds 92 mp which is a great improvement for a D grader.

Salamander is ok, but manti is better for me at least.
I got some cash from one of my other characters, so I'm going to buy hard leather set and comp bow and dagger till 20. I'll figure out what to do then.
One other question, if I am shooting a target and I don't kite them, do I take penalties for shooting at them point blank?

Nope. There are no range penalties.
Cool, also, last question, can anyone point me in the direction of a good Human Archer guide?
heavy and a dagger for 1-20, light and a dagger 20-40, light and a dagger 40-52, light and bow 52+
The bottom line is, all archer classes are GOOD! ::period:: Don't listen to the fanboys, for god's sake!

SR is fastest, most likely to survive if you have to run away, doesn't hit as hard as the other archers, but it will be hard enough, can kite anything, entangle is very good. Wide array of defensive spells, like healing, cures and buffs.

PR shoots hard, and with hex the hardest of all archers, but it can't be used in any situation, but when you can, it's a killer. PR's are almost as fast as SR's, and in practice identical accuracy and evasion (1 less) compared to the SR. PR's also have the most tricks and skills up it's sleeve, in the form of offensive spells like freezing strike, poison, but not often used. Hex, powerbreak and freezing strike are their most useful spells.

HE is the bulldozer of the archers, VERY slow compared to their elven borthers and sisters. But with very decent HP and STR they can take a hit as well as deal it out, basically same damage as PR, crit chance helps too. You can't run after anything, even Elven tanks are just as fast or faster than a human, just don't chase people, wait for them to come to you. Hawkeye skill gives them best accuracy in the game basically, but reduce pdef, sometimes worth it against high evasion +dex opponents, else it's not really needed. Snipe SUCKS btw, it roots you, so you'll be pretty much dead in no time if you use it in pvp, it's a PVE skill as it stands now. HE can't slow his enemy in any way until you reach level 77!

For 1-40, USE HEAVY ARMOR! Light armor is useless until you can get plated set, which you should use until you can get Majestic light (preferably) or DC light, even so plated leather is fine until 75 as well if you can duo with someone. Dagger is your weapon of choice, especially if you can get buffs. If you can afford a bow, more power to you.

I play an HE, and for the most part I'm happy with my class, I miss to be as fast as an elf, and no skills to speak of except for Hawkeye (which is very cool), getting level 77 for Hamstring shot sucks, but it's very nice, but all archers get that skill as well.

Bottom line, play the archer you think you will like, archers are great!
TY for all the great info Mulch! I am currently a lvl 14 Human fighter and want to go HE. I can afford light or heavy armor right now and am currently wearing light armor and have a bow and dagger. I'm using the method another poster said, which is use bow till MP is gone then switch to dagger till MP is back up. I'm hunting the coal mines in the dwarf lands atm. I haven't yet seen any reason to switch to heavy armor, but I may at lvl 20 when I go for the class transfer to Rogue. Is there any guide to the class transfer from Fighter to Rogue that you know of or should I search [censored]/Warcry? I am also lucky enough to use potions of alacrity which are making my shots much faster for training. Ty again all for the great info. I played a DE Palus knight first to lvl 23 and had fun, but was getting bored and mystics just aren't my thing. I really like playing an archer as "Hawkeye" is my favorite comic character and I am having fun just training in the mines right now! Any advice on a good pet to get to tank for me while i use my bow?
Using a combo of bow and dagger is definitely the best way to level, your'e doing good it seems! Sounds like Hawkeye is the right archer for you :>

Don't worry about the 1st class change at level 20, it's a very easy quest, done in 15-30mins, the quest guide should be sufficient to help you through it. However the 2nd class change is much hated by many players, here is a good website for guides and such, lots of other useful info as well: L2 Stratics Class change guides (http://lineage2.stratics.com/content/library/quests/ccq.php)

The reason you should use heavy, when you feel you're taking too much damage (light is fine at your level, but when you get to 15-18 you will probably notice heavy is better), is because light armor doesn't give enough evasion bonus to justify the huge loss of hp. Until C-grade at level 40, the armors doesn't really give any good set bonuses either, where Plated leather is an awesome set for grinding. Someone mentioned manticore as a good set because of the mp bonus, well, the bad thing is that you don't regen mp any faster with it, so when you go non stop it will amount to the same, you just have 92 mp more to start with really.

Any advice on a good pet to get to tank for me while i use my bow?

Wind hatchling while using health pots every now and then. His hp sucks, but has decent defense. It used to be star, but that all changed in c4.
great info all! I just bought a wolf before reading the last post of wind hatchling. Here is the dumbest question of all i think! My bow says x7 soulshots and x2 spritshots used per hit. So i went and bought all soulshots and sold all my spiritshots, and now my bow doesn't use either? What is the difference between soul shots and spirit shots???
Make sure it's the right grade soulshots. Non grade soulshots for your Comp-bow.

So star hatchling isn't best tank anymore, how come? Haven't really used a hatchling at all last 2 chronicles :P
ty, so spiritshots are useless to me? I am using NG soulshots atm. Pet wise, i am using a wolf because it fits my image of a ranger. My other character, a lvl 23 DE Palus Knight uses a wind hatchling. So a lvl 14 Human Fighter that is goin for HE is good to go with a wolf etc. as long as i can kill lots of white mobs?
Soulshots for physical attacks, and spiritshots are for magical attacks, so yes spiritshots are useless for you.

I haven't really tried to xp seriously with a pet, but guess it works, whatever makes you go for longer periods of time. But once you start to use a bow i guess it might be a bit harder to use the wolf/hatchling efficiently.
Be aware that you will level more slowly if you use a pet. This is because the pet absorbs a percentage of the earned exp so that it can level itself. Most archers don't need a pet to help them, so you might be better off going the solo route.

Also, soulshots will be used on your normal attacks. You have to apply them to your weapon, though. To do this, add them to your quick bar, and hit that hotkey before you attack. Alternatively, you can spam them by right-clicking the icon on the shortcut bar. This will make them auto-apply every time you attack. Spiritshots work the same way, but they are only good when and if you cast spells.
