huh, they didnt even mention the best part. Any girl in an mmorpg can get as much gear as they want just by doing a little flirting..if anything girls have become the elite in MMORPG's lol.
Regarding the guys playing girls...everyone has a different take on this. Personally, I almost always play a male class. The only female type characters I play are mages and buffers since those classes dont require brute strength and seem to have some woman-like characteristics to them...and dont even get me started about how annoyed I get at female dwarves...how many have to be made before people figure out that a female dwarf with pink hair isnt exactly rare.
Uhm - any guy in an MMORPG can get that gear easier, because he knows what guys want to hear from a flirting "girl".
While this is true the use of teampspeak and ventrillo kind of take this out of play...unless you are a real young guy before puberty lmao. Although on my female spellsinger some guy was hitting on me O.o

Its an mmorpg where people play the character as themselves...many men want to play as a man because they are a man. Unless you are playing with no armor you arent looking at any part of the guy except for the face and the armor set. Besides, melee sets look a lot better on males and i have no idea what they were thinking when they made the design for the female heavy sets.

good choice for gladiator...the female gladiators in their armor look like some weird football player lesbian types lol. Then there is the human prophets who all look like they have bowl haircuts haha
ive played a lot of female toons, especially in lineage 2. Ive played females almost exclusively.
However, I dont any more. I think I slowly started getting creeped out. Wether or not a guy knows yer a guy, your toon makes guys act slightly different. Theres always the uncomfortable first few minutes too where guys act goofy around female toons in group. Then theres the all popular creepy guy offering me stuff for no apparant reason.
I think what really did it was gaming with a friend from work, me playing a female him a male. he kept commenting on my hair, my dress, my makeup. basically busting my balls every step. roleplaying and refering to me as a girl. ive adopted this behavior now to other guys playing female toons..wether they like it or not. its funny to see them get their "panties" in a bunch..lol
In a nutshell, playing a female toon offers me way too much unwanted attention. some guys like it I s'pose
its just not me. sure, Id rather look at a chic then a guy.. but Id rather be treated like a man then a woman. besides, theres enough female toons in this game to look at.

I wanted a nuker so I could actually get invited to a raid and I wanted an SPS...I thought male elven mages looked a bit light in the loafers I just decided to go female...I had one really akward situation already where this guy just started talking to me asking if I would marry him and if he could call me...I was like wtf!!! He then asked me to join his clan and tries to PM me when I am online and to tell the truth its more sad/creepy than it is funny.
I also wonder about some of the people that play those 12 year old female dwarves, maybe some for fun but there is a reallllly creepy/pedo thing about them that I dont like.
Anyway, I still like my sps and will still play her but I pity the actual real girls who play this game and get harrassed.
I don't mind a guy playing a girl's char....it's when the guy tries to make everyone * believe * he's a girl ...well, that's when i get worried and slowly....step...away.... :D

I play online with 3 guys. They almost have ALL female toons... why ? Because human and elf mages already looked like female toons! They look so.... "un-manly". Did you ever zoom in on a male prophet?!?! If it wasnt for that bit of facial hair some have you could swear it was a female toon. What kind of guy wants to go around with a male toon that looks like a chick!
As for female dwarves... well who would you turst/want to craft from in Giran: 1) a cute little adorable female dwarf or 2) an old ****. I know it probably doesnt really make a big difference... but still.... I dont want a old grumpy dwarf selling my stuff.
Out of 20 or so main/alts my friends (guys) have I think they have a grand total of 3 male toons (destroyer, dwarf and a BD)

As a female, I thought one part was important for game designers. I like my characters to look attractive but I don't want them to look attractive in the way that causes people to be rude.
Dark Elf females are a great example of this. The number of negative titles or really down right nasty names I've seen on them is one reason I've heard many females end up not playing them.

I was looking at blah a while ago, and they have a page live pics of people playing lineage 2. Obviously the guys are in bigger numbers, but there are some girls on every server and some don't look as bad as one would think :D.
On topic though, LE females in game to females in real life ration compared to DE females in game to females in real life is much higher. Why? Well that answer could get me in trouble on the forums so I won't talk about it....

An LE doesn't look like a body builder in any armor period, and DE, well I never seen a body builder with curves, just a lot of muscle and DEs sure as hell don't have a lot of muscle. They have a lot of curves and I'm not complaining, and neither are the Koreans :D.

Some females aren't bothered by it. Some even revel in it. But the article is talking about how to get more females to participate and enjoy gaming. I'm not an expert but I'd pretty much bet money that some does not equal the majority.

i have a le female nuker and a de female buffer cuz i like how they contrast each other while leveling and mages/buffers fit a female role imo but for melee no thx.

ratio in my clan is nearly 1:1, based on TS not in-game chat, and the leader is female. on the downside, our clan tag looks like a light elf drew it >.<
All the female toons have curves. Even the orcs, who are quite muscular. I love how orc females look. They do look like bodybuilders, but the muscles are "arranged" way better than on real life bodybuilders :)

Same here .. its creepy how some guys act towards you. The worst is when they declare you their unofficial biiyatch and expect you to stick to them like some trophy. Its L2 kiddies not online matchmaking :P

If what you're saying is really true, the why are there so many women in Warcraft, UO, Lineage 2 and other games that all have the so called "problems", while games like Vanguard and SWG that allows for the more moderate "look" have very little female interest?

Ever noticed the gigantic crotchbulge on orcs or the tight Dark Elf Pants? Women aren't the only ones in the games that looks oversexed, its just downplayed alot because women don't revel in it and guys wouldn't want to, yet its there. DE's scream "I'm da pimp daddy!" and dwarves scream "I'm the old perve ****", orc's are "WTB **** role as Grokstar the Wunderider", lol.
I do agree with her that all the options should be there, some games like Lineage 2 though have very limited avatar selection, so if you want a certain style, you have to select a certain race.
I really liked how the article talked about why MMORPG's are more popular for girls in general. Because we get to play them how WE want to play them. I'm pretty darn new to L2, but I played eq2 for quite a while... even though I'm not a crafter myself, I think most of the GOOD crafters in eq2 were female. They just have the patience needed more often than men I think. And I like how she mensioned that we're the more social of the two sexes, and how the women tend to be the ones holding the clan's together.
I definitely agree that I'd like to be able to make my avatar's **** when I want them to be ****, and not when I don't want them to be. I chose an orc in this game, even though I was a wood elf in eq2, because I like how they look capable and feminine at the same time. I'm sure I'll make a dark elf alt though because they just look soooooo **** and soooo scary. hehe
