This is inspired by the article Jute posted in the off topic discussion.
Do you think different races and classes are treated differently - just because of the avatars and impressions that come from them?
For example - I see a Pw/Aw/Th walking around in my hunting spot. I am instantly on my toes because of their fake death skill. It seems that a lot of the archer/dagger classes are also griefers. Perception, or truth?
On my elf Kaelir, I am called "Kae." on my orc shaman, I am called "the orc."
On a dark elf female, someone who I barely knew gave me a million adena for no reason. Nothing like that ever happens on my light elf, who I have been playing for a lot longer.
Dwarves are often thought of as "greedy," ((I really don't want to hear the "spoil is for dwarves only" argument, but that is one of them.))
So - what makes a race treated differently? Or am I just crazy and they all are treated the same? You tell me.

i think this is a good point, i know theres a lot of people that refuse to play a "smelly orc" because they cant get past the green skin. even slightly anti-orc comments set me off every time.
Orcs have all the candy visually - awesome-looking armours, hot women, and... well, ok, not the greatest complexion. I hear a lot more elf-hate than anything else, really. Yeah, like from Lothlian, who is still mourning my rolling of a pink-haired male elf. :) (He's trying to stab me. x_X)
Yes, people react to the image of the avatar unvoluntarily - it's the "first impressions" thing.
I've noticed I get treated differently depending on which of my characters that I'm playing. Of course, part of this is that I act a bit differently depending on which character I'm playing as well. Its not actually concious but when I noticed people treating me differently I stopped and thought about it.
When I'm on my female SH I'll act a bit more brazen/trashy. My bishop I tend to be more kind and sociable. When I'm on my male dwarf I tend to get mouthy with people (and people will automatically think I'm a guy, my clannies get a kick out of that), and on my female dwarf I end up running around being cute and getting buffed for free.

Well, thats because of the skill. Also most professional players back in prelude were one of those classes so I know for me its just bad memories. (rang rang anyone?)
I personally always try to treat female characters the same way as male ones, because I know the player behind the desk is 80% of the time a guy, but it just happens. I use slightly different words around them. I don't flirt though, I really think calling a female character 'babe' over the internet is kind of pathetic >.<

To add my 2 cents, there are two types of people who play and like the looks of a light male elf. Girls and 12 year old kids. I have a friend like that in game. He made a male elf fighter with hair pink too. It's all good to me. Everyone got different taste.
Some like the curves of a dark elf female, or the spikes on male. Some like skinny light elves, though in some armors they dont look skinny, and some like the male light elf look, especially koreans, girls and young guys. Some like the orcs built looks, and some like the soccer mom human mystic. And others like the not too curvy, not too skinny human fighter look.
I like them all but I draw the line at female dwarf. No way I am commenting on that :p.
But to stay on topic, I don't treat anyone different because of class, level, sex in game. I act the same around anyone. Just be yourself. Obviously I don't swear unless I know the person is cool with it or things like that.
And as far as giving or getting things, I usualy give. I just gave top ng armor and weapons to 3 people on TI an hour ago. I was there lvling and they asked to party but didnt know how. I had to teach em everything from trading, to using soulshots. At the end one of the guys said something in chinese lol, and thank you very much afterwards. He also said I love you :D (I play females, but im a male).....i didnt say anything cause I can't expect him to know im a guy, but then again I didnt call him names either for saying I love you to another guy.
In the end, this is an online game. How you act in it is your business. No one forces you to be nice, but in the end being nice to those whos spot you were in at a time helps you in the long run. But again you have to treat bad ones with bad things, and good ones with good.

I'm a girl all right - but I honestly don't see what people have against male elves (other than the fisher boots - disgrace!); they look much better than male dark elves or even male human fighters by the base sprite. Certainly, they have plenty of ugly armours (fisher boooooots >.<), but on a whole, they can definitely be seen as attractive in a clean and elegant way.
How some dark elf wearing Draconic light can claim that light elves have a hang towards girly fashion is beyond me - how much more girly than fishnet stockings and playboy-on-display-panties does it get?
Thats exactly what im thinking lol. And the HUGE skirts e.g. Manticore/Theca on a DE man is way worse then on an LE male, LE's just have 'Tunics' which are suppose to have a kind of short skirt thing over the top of the legs.
I always thought those looked kind of stylish - their legs look too thin in many other light armours (Drake etc.) for my liking.
:D My fave mesh on DEs is the one on maj happy, very happy Lloth finally completed his set so he no longer runs around flashing his panties for all to see in BW.
Someone is unceartain of their sexuality....Ive heard tonnes of guys say they dont play LE males because they look like a girl, then proceed to dance with their Dark Elf character Drag Queen Sex Slave.

80% of the Perma Reds are SR and up ,because they take advantage of their speed and they can One shot almost anything below LvL 25.
That's why Light Elves have a bad reputation ,beside their poor character design ,this race attracts all the griefers and 923'ers ,more than any other.
Elves are effeminate - the obvious conclusion for some appears to be that they would like men, rather than girls. A weird jump to me, personally, but whatever works for people - to me, I honestly don't see how that could be used as the basis for a conclusion. The single most elegant and feminine girl I've ever known was a lesbian, and coincidentally tof he two really pretty guys I can think of right now, one was a horrible (and successful) skirt-chaser, and the other had the probably most lucky girlfriend anywhere at school. :p
So says the guy who has a dwarf...And I bet it's a male one too, cause if it's female then..(restrain from bad words on official forum). Like looking at old men eh :p?
Nothing wrong with blue skin, or green. It's not like humans have white. Only the pale mystics. The fighters are tanned.
I prefer it in the following order:
1. Human Fighter Female
2. Dark Elf Female
3. Light Elf Female
4. Orc Fighter Female
5. Orc Mystic Female
6. Human Mystic Female
And that's what I play. If my computer could handle it, I would play all 6 at once, but that's not happening.
And to be honest, I wouldn't mind playing a light elf male if it wasn't for the freekin sound they make when they get hit lol. A female light elf I can take, but not for hours on end. That's one of the reasons I rerolled the one I made from fighter to mystic. It gets hit less.
Orcs are just cool period. Males and females. Fighters and Mystics. People just don't see pass the skin, but they love it when you buff an entire party in 30 seconds.

You just have to not put anything sexual in the dwarven race. But I do think it's odd (to put it mildly) that the females are little girls and the males are old grumpy men.
my male dwarf seems to be comedic and gets a lot more lol's and makes ppl laugh more for some reason.
my female sps gets hit on and gets complimented on her name often.
my se gets begged for buffs when i am recharging the poor dwarf and i will say this, if you say 'buffs plz' you will never get buffs. If someone takes the time to type out a sentence then they can have buffs.
Female dwarves I treat like crap because I hate the class and any guy who plays one annoys me because who wants to play a 12 year old girl?
Female dwarves with pink hair get extra griefing from me.
Why do I hate female dwarves so much...
1. they wear mini skirts and look like they are 12
2. guys love to play them and this scares me
3. people love to use their dance emotion skill and it annoys me
4. they do look kinda cool in doom heavy but thats all i will give em.
Dark elf males - not sure, i like them but everyone uses the same color white hair with spikes that kinda ruins it.
orcs- not much to say
human prophets - male or female they remind me of the town idiot from old knight era movies...not sure if it is their hot bowl cuts or their funny looking clothes.
human fighters - not bad, always good if you are trying to guess who is a tank.
My orc tyrant is a sweet *** that eats babies. O_o
I sometimes get into character, take off the panties and waves them around, she loves to be chased, preferably by as many people as possible, sex is no limitation, hell, even race doesn't matter! I get chased by 20+ mobs all the time, they want my panties!! PURRRR!

I don't really understand how people can't get past the "orcs are ugly." Thing. Orcs are not ugly. They are the most beautiful game orcs I have ever seen. Anywhere.
Indeed, the Orcs in L2 are beautiful :) Just look past the green, if that's not your thing. Especially orc mystic females are very nicely modeled, perhaps the most beautiful charcter in game, IMO.
I actully loved my Male necro; his look in DC is awesome. and NM looks good to. not to mention, I really don't like how males look G*y.( I've read fantasy that has male wizards buffed up male hunks *nothing else to better discribe them*.)
but when it comes to human buffers, I much prefer female over male, I just like the sound effects that human females have over the guys.
When it comes to DE females (SE namely) I really think that they are over rated (I like smaller chest size) I think that SK are good looking, but BS females aren't. don't see alot of PR/AW but they look ok.
Le's are just girlly, and out side of female SpS the sound effects are very annoying, specailly their "advance" emote.(just something cool about SpS water nukes)
whats to say about Dwarfs, well the males are fat and short, not exactly what girls tend to like. and the Female dwarfs look like they are 12-14 years old and yet to hit pubity. as well their emote get annoying, they are cute in a lil girl sort of way but very annoying to see their emote spamed over and over again.
Orc's: IMO are ugly, I just don't like the pucke green skin color. Not to say they aren't usefull. just ugly, specailly the Female....ECK... *runs and hinds from splatter.*
Honestly, predetermined notions about the person behind the character based on what character they have is just.....stupid.
Anyone that knows me knows that no matter what character I happen to be playing, I am the same personality, no matter what. No matter who I talk to I am the same. If I see an SE, I don't see a trashy, ****** girl that sits with her legs spread. If I see a male LE, I don't see a man grown up in a fatherless house with 4 older sisters. If I see an Orc, I see a bloody Orc ffs!
